Ways to support manually executed tests? (that can be used on a Mac)

Are there any tools that can be used on a Mac to support manually executed tests? I have a number of tests that I'm executing manually and which I'm currently documenting using merely a plain text file. "Tools" can be interpreted rather loosely here, anything that's a step up from the plain text file would be useful: a template for some suitable application, supporting AppleScript scripts, a web-based system, a full-blown application ... Some things that would be great to have better support for (see also the example below): Checking off each step while you're manually executing the test. Showing the next step(s) in a small window that is always kept in front of all other windows. Automatically updating the 'last tested' and 'using svn revision' info. Keeping a record of all previous testing rounds (not just the last one). ... Any suggestions for any such "tools" that can be used on a Mac? An example (faked) entry from the plain text file to give you a better idea of what I'm looking for: - Check that exported web pages render properly in Safari. Last tested: 2010-03-24 Using SVN revision: 1000 Steps: - Open a new document. - Add some items to the document. - Export the document to a web page "Test.html" in a new folder "Export Test" on the Desktop. - Open the web page in Safari, script: tell application "Finder" open file "Test.html" of folder "Export Test" of desktop end tell Expected results: - The web page should appear properly with all items shown. Clean up steps: - Remove the folder "Export Test" from the Desktop. ( Note: for those unaware, the snippet of AppleScript in the above can be executed from most text editing applications through the Services menu by selecting the snippet and using: the application menu Services Script Editor Run as AppleScript. This is quite useful to automate some steps for tests that are difficult to automate as a whole. )

How can I create a rules engine without using eval() or exec()?

I have a simple rules/conditions table in my database which is used to generate alerts for one of our systems. I want to create a rules engine or a domain specific language. A simple rule stored in this table would be..(omitting the relationships here) if temp > 40 send email Please note there would be many more such rules. A script runs once daily to evaluate these rules and perform the necessary actions. At the beginning, there was only one rule, so we had the script in place to only support that rule. However we now need to make it more scalable to support different conditions/rules. I have looked into rules engines , but I hope to achieve this in some simple pythonic way. At the moment, I have only come up with eval/exec and I know that is not the most recommended approach. So, what would be the best way to accomplish this?? ( The rules are stored as data in database so each object like "temperature", condition like "/=..etc" , value like "40,50..etc" and action like "email, sms, etc.." are stored in the database, i retrieve this to form the condition...if temp 50 send email, that was my idea to then use exec or eval on them to make it live code..but not sure if this is the right approach )

Display the value of a select list without a button

How can I get the value to be displayed after the selection from the list is made, without the use of a button. I tried to implement an onChange event for the select list, and doing away with the button, but I can't get it to work. Hide / Show menu code not working after postback

I have a button on my web page that toggles the menu, After a postback the menu comes back despite me updating a hidden field value to store its state. Am I doing something wrong here? If there is a better way of doing it, let me know! Plugin architecture in C using libdl

I've been toying around, writing a small IRC framework in C that I'm now going to expand with some core functionality - but beyond that, I'd like it to be extensible with plugins! Up until now, whenever I wrote something IRC related (and I wrote a lot, in about 6 different languages now... I'm on fire!) and actually went ahead to implement a plugin architecture, it was inside an interpreted language that had facilities for doing (read: abusing) so, like jamming a whole script file trough eval in Ruby (bad!). Now I want to abuse something in C! Basically there's three things I could do define a simple script language inside of my program use an existing one, embedding an interpreter use libdl to load *.so modules on runtime I'm fond of the third one and raather avoid the other two options if possible. Maybe I'm a masochist of some sort, but I think it could be both fun and useful for learning purposes. Logically thinking, the obvious "pain-chain" would be (lowest to highest) 2 - 1 - 3, for the simple reason that libdl is dealing with raw code that can (and will) explode in my face more often than not. So this question goes out to you, fellow users of stackoverflow, do you think libdl is up to this task, or even a realistic thought?

I have millions of these rows so I need to find the next class in the row. JavaScript library not working in IE, can't see error information.

Hi there. I have been writing a JavaScript library for a few weeks now and it works brilliantly in Firefox, Chrome and Safari. I had not tested it in IE until recently. I do not own a Windows box so after testing it on my friends and realising it wasnt working I started going over my code for things that could be causing it to break. So far I have found nothing. I could not find any descriptions of the errors in the browser while I was there either. So I wondered if anyone could run my test script in an IE browser (6, 7 or 8) and let me know any information they can find as to why it crashed. Please ignore any information saying it works in IE6, I put that up there after testing it through http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/ I just assumed it was working because I could set transparency and size via my script and see it run in this tool. Is it possible to extend the small JS function above to work this way (using some document.getElementsByTag(tag).getElementsById(id).innerHTML or something alike (I don't know what exactly suites the need) in a loop? Sorry if this is another repost. I have been attempting to find a solution but nothing works that I have tried. I am using a blog which I have full html control over. I can usually find my way around basic html but when it comes to Java or CSS I am a complete newb. Sorry, I know absolutely nothing. Now that that is out of the way. I have two sidebar div's that I am trying to hide on one specific url to utilize more space for a content iframe. If i try to store this id to variable like this: var storedId = $(this).attr('id').toString(); it stores the last one.That means i get the id of form1. How can i get the first id? The id of clicked button or clicked label or whatever i have on my page.

JS window.close() let IE hang

Hi all, for reason I won't bore you with, I'm writing an asp.net application that must open some pages in new browser windows. I managed to open them within a postback (don't ask why, I just needed to) with this code: script = String.Format(@"window.open(""{0}"", ""{1}"");", url, target); ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(page, typeof(Page), "Redirect", script, true); Now I have new windows each one with a button that should close it. I have simply an onclick="window.close()" (but that prompts me when I'm closing the browser) or window.open('','_self','');window.close() (horrible, I agree but it's the only way I found to avoid the JS prompt) On firefox it works perfectly but on IE7 (the browser our customers have) after 2-3 times I use that button to close the window I can't open other windows (in both cases, with or without the JS prompt). With the method above it does nothing, and with a <a href="mypage.aspx" target="_blank">click me</a> a new window is opened but hangs on loading (it doesn't even calls the Page_Load). What could be the cause? How can I solve this? Thank you.

Bind two images together to be dragged

I'm looking for some help with a script to drag two images together at once. I currently have a script that allows me to drag thumbnail images into a collection bin to be saved later. However, some of my thumbnails have an image positioned over the top of them to represent these thumbnail images as "unknown" plants. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction as to how I would go about binding these two images together to be dragged. Why can't I dynamically add rows to a HTML table using JavaScript in Internet Explorer?

onKeypress Enter Key event on textfield not working in Chrome

I have a question along the same vein as the one asked here regarding how the enter key is handled in chrome. The effect I am trying to accomplish is to allow the enter key to call a click event of one a button while focus in within the current field. Trying to move files with specific file names from root directory to a subfolder

Hi I'm still pretty new to powershell so I apologize if I ask something that extremely basic. I have a root directory on a tftp server that pulls down config files from routers and other equipment every night. The files are like this IPaddress_YYYYMMDD_TA5000. There is a limitation in the equipment where the files can't be set to move into the root directory on their own. What I want to do is make a powershell script that will only move the files with the TA5000 part in the filename to the sub directory and only keep the 5 most recent files. I looked but I couldn't seem to find what I would need to do to parse the file for that specific string. I already have the portion of the script to delete the files based on age that was simple. Any help on getting started would be appreciated. Edit: I forgot to post the code I was trying. Move-Item c:\tftptransferfiles c:\tftptransferfiles\sca | Where-Object {_.name -like "*TA5000*"} I keep getting a error saying that the item at C:\tftptransferfiles is in use.

How would I sort files to directories based on filenames?

I have a huge number of files to sort all named in some terrible convention. Here are some examples: (4)_mr__mcloughlin____.txt 12__sir_john_farr____.txt (b)mr__chope____.txt dame_elaine_kellett-bowman____.txt dr__blackburn______.txt These names are supposed to be a different person (speaker) each. Someone in another IT department produced these from a ton of XML files using some script but the naming is unfathomably stupid as you can see. I need to sort literally tens of thousands of these files with multiple files of text for each person; each with something stupid making the filename different, be it more underscores or some random number. They need to be sorted by speaker. This would be easier with a script to do most of the work then I could just go back and merge folders that should be under the same name or whatever. There are a number of ways I was thinking about doing this. parse the names from each file and sort them into folders for each unique name. get a list of all the unique names from the filenames, then look through this simplified list of unique names for similar ones and ask me whether they are the same, and once it has determined this it will sort them all accordingly. I plan on using Perl, but I can try a new language if it's worth it. I'm not sure how to go about reading in each filename in a directory one at a time into a string for parsing into an actual name. I'm not completely sure how to parse with regex in perl either, but that might be googleable. For the sorting, I was just gonna use the shell command: `cp filename.txt /example/destination/filename.txt` but just cause that's all I know so it's easiest. I dont even have a pseudocode idea of what im going to do either so if someone knows the best sequence of actions, im all ears. I guess I am looking for a lot of help, I am open to any suggestions. Manually extracting portions of strings contained in a list (parsing)

I'm aware that there are modules that fully simplify this function, but saying that I am running from a base install of python (standard modules only), how would I extract the following: I have a list. This list is the contents, line by line, of a webpage. Here is a mock up list (unformatted) for informative purposes: <script> link = "/scripts/playlists/1/" + a.id + "/0-5417069212.asx"; <script> "<a href="/apps/audio/?feedId=11065"><span class="px13">Eastern Metro Area Fire</span>" From the above string, I need the following extracted. The feedId (11065), which is incidentally a.id in the code above., "/scripts/playlists/1/" and "/0-5417069212.asx". Remembering that each of these lines is just contents from objects in a list, how would I go about extracting that data? How to calculate Content-Length for a file download within Kohana PHP?

I'm trying to send a file from within a Kohana model to the browser, but as soon as I add a Content-Length header, the file doesn't start downloading right away. Now the problem seems to be that Kohana is already outputting buffers. An ob_clean at the begin of the script doesn't help this though. Also adding ob_get_length() to the Content-Length isn't helping since this just returns 0. The getFileSize() function returns the right number: if I run the script outside of Kohana, it works. I read that exit() still calls all destructors and it might be that something is outputted by Kohana afterwards, but I can't find out what exactly. Hope someone can help me out here...
