• Rebuilding system databases in 2008 R2

  All my attempts so far to rebuild the system databases in 2008 R2 has failed. I first tried to run setup from below path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Release But above turns out to be the 2008 setup program, not 2008R2 setup; even though I have no 2008 instanced installed (I have only R2 instances installed). Apparently, the 2008 setup program does a version check of the instance to be rebuilt and since it is > 10.50.0, the rebuild fails. Books Online for R2 the section...(read more)

  Few examples before the question: "A language is just a tool; Better to worry only about the concept." "C++ is just an object oriented language." "Java is more about the libraries and less about programming." "C# is just a Microsoft's version of Java with some extra things from C++." "Python is a scripting language used mainly for testing purpose." ... All these statements are made knowingly or unknowingly from my colleagues/friends and I often get to hear them.   Silverlight has a method called HtmlPage.PopupWindow() that opens new web browser window with a specific page. You can find this method in the namespace System.Windows.Browser. If you haven’t in your project, add a reference to System.Windows.Browser.   I recently bought Samsung Galaxy Note II on android 4.1. It was my idea to try to turn it into a pc and I bought a micro-keyboard for the same purpose. I had hoped there would be an app for OpenOffice, but there isn't. Now i see that ubuntu may be installed on smart phones. I already have ubuntu - including OpenOffice - on my laptop. My question is: is it possible to install ubuntu to galaxy note II, and if so, does it include office programs and other ubuntu programs? • Why does DirectX use a left-handed coordinate system?

  I considered posting on Stack Overflow, but the question strikes me as being far too subjective since I can't think of a reasonable technical explanation for Microsoft's choice in this matter. But this question has bugged me for so long and the issue keeps coming up in one of my projects, and I have never actually seen an attempt at explaining this: OpenGL uses a right-handed coordinate system, where the +Z part of the world coordinate system extends toward the viewer. DirectX uses a left-handed system where the +Z part of the world coordinate extends into the screen, away from the viewer. I never used the Glide API, so I don't know how it worked, but from what I can gather, it uses a left-handed system as well. Is there a technical reason for this? And if not, is there some conceptual advantage to a particular handedness of a coordinate system? Why would one choose one over the other?

• Using XNA libraries in your Silverlight Windows Phone 7 applications

  I recently got an inquiry to my Microsoft Translator sample on if this would work with the Silverlight in the Windows Phone 7 SDK. I hadnt tried it before, so I created a sample Windows Phone 7 application and copied the code over. I used a basic UI to mock up the similarities: And then clicked the button. The text translated fine, but no audio. I didnt get any warnings that the WaveMSS code sample I was using wouldnt work. Then I remembered about XNA.   I remember Microsoft used to have this AI game for the .NET framework which allowed you to program a species and this species could be introduced to an "ecosystem" full of species that other people had programmed and they could interact with each other, etc. I can't remember what it was called, but I remembered thinking it was a pretty good idea. Are there any other similiar sites like that, which allows you to design some sort of AI engine and pit it against other programmer's creations?
