  I remember Microsoft used to have this AI game for the .NET framework which allowed you to program a species and this species could be introduced to an "ecosystem" full of species that other people had programmed and they could interact with each other, etc. I can't remember what it was called, but I remembered thinking it was a pretty good idea. Are there any other similiar sites like that, which allows you to design some sort of AI engine and pit it against other programmer's creations?   As a grad student, I find it more and more common for prestigious companies (like Google, Facebook, Microsoft,...) to put algorithm questions in their test and interviews. A few startups I applied to also asked about algorithms. I wonder if algorithms fluency is the most important thing for software developer in those companies? If the answer being yes, what are the best method or resources for one to learn & practice about algorithms effectively? I can't seem to get interested in solving seemingly too complicated problems found in most textbook or websites. Though easily understand basic algorithms (like quicksort, bubblesort,...), I find it immensely difficult to remember and reuse them later. Thanks. P/S: If you ask me what I like, it's building good softwares to solve users' problems innovatively. I suppose that does not necessarily mean the software has to be very complicated.

I deleted Wubi from my Windows desktop after installation. All I want is to expand my Ubuntu operating system. I plan to gradually transition from Windows to Ubuntu and so I'll need to transfer more files and programs from Windows to Ubuntu in the future. Right now, I already need more GiBs for Ubuntu. I can barely use Ubuntu right now because there's almost no space left. I simply want Ubuntu to use what space I need it to use.   As we know that microsoft has been pushing Windows 8.1 which strongly uses XAML to design the app and for windows desktop mode WPF is another framework (which probably some thinks it fails) However, in old times, developer write windows form software using MFC or something alike that they have to do their own main loop, etc, etc, and I recently loves python and learning python certainly worth it, since there are still ironpython out there that uses .NET, but I am not sure whether my move to also learn wxpython for building windows software that does not requires .NET worth it also i notice wxpython is somehow old and still uses python 2.7, while today, python already version 3.3, beside that the books are old book published in 2007, and there seems no much hype on building windows form without .NET anymore because .NET is mostly preinstalled in new windows version. So my humble question is, whether should I learn python + wxpython or only python? Is there any benefit that I might not notice for capable in writing windows application that does not use .NET?

  In our environment we have multiple ERP servers plus data that are coming from multiple sources. I need to create a development roadmap for the coming years as it is obvious that side applications will be needed for many things. The choice is that the development will occur with Microsoft technologies. This means that I will be building either web apps (MVC, web forms e.t.c) or standard windows forms applications. The thing here is that I will be creating classes that will encapsulate the business logic that I want to apply to the different projects. What I thought so far: 1) Create class libraries dlls containing the required logic 2) Reuse these libs in my apps. But what about the web apps? Should I use the dlls directly or I should encapsulate them in web services and consume the web services in web apps? In general I would like to find out how should I build my strategy.
