  Hi i am learning java and php i have some projects from uni.(Gui,s in java with mysql and a web application in php with mysql ++ more things like this.) i have started learning mvc struts spring and i also lerning php +zend +++++ more stuff etc....you can't learn everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to ask how can i find a job as a programmer-software eng because i have send my cv in many companys but all of them said me that i need work expirience. How All of you started your programming expirience. Did you make some projects and send them did you you have somebody that help you ...??? i am totaly alone i do everything by my self. can anyone answer this?everybody starts from somewhere but what if this somewhere don't come?what to do ?? how to start !!!!!!!   This is the message I get when I try to rip a cd from any player. I usually use the stock Rhythmbox but have tried others to no avail. I have just updated to 12.10 from 12.04 and I had no problems in 12.04. I have read the other posts and have switched to the Main Server in the Software Sources menu. I have installed Ubuntu Restricted Extras. Nothing seems to help. I would appreciate any help. • Ubuntu 13.10 gets stuck on boot

  I have updated (via the Software Updater) Ubuntu 13.04 to Ubuntu 13.10. After it had finished the installation, the system required a reboot. When I reboot and load Ubuntu it will get stuck on the logo. I managed to boot into the recovery (both console and graphics mode) but I can't figure out how to repair it. I have tried a sudo update-grub, but nothing different happened. I have also tried sudo apt-get install gnome, but the same result... I am using a dual-boot Win7 + Ubuntu.

• Nonresponsive UI starting a few days ago; no obvious resource shortage

  The mouse stops and moves jerkily, and sometimes won't register clicks. Gnome stopped responding a few hours ago--everything looks fine, but no clicks on menu items do anything. I've been running Ubuntu 10.10 since it was released; 8GB RAM and a 60GB SSD. I haven't added any hardware or software recently except the Ubuntu recommended updates; the last thing was the bitcoin client a week ago. top shows 3 CPU cores free and over a gig of ram left. I don't know what else to look at.

• How do I download a corrupted package again?

  Ubuntu 12.04 can't install Firefox 13 update, because the package is corrupted. While attempting to install, returns this error (I translated it from my language to English). /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_13.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_i386.deb W: Waited for dpkg --assert-multi-arch but was not there - dpkgGo (10: There are no "child" processes). I can tell that the package at /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_13.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_i386.deb is corrupted, but even as admin, I can't delete it in order to be downloaded again. How should I proceed? EDIT: There was a single package causing this conflict, please report here to understand all the situation: Why can't I install from software center?

• Bluetooth Audio and SoftPhone Audio Input/Output

  I have a Voip Softphone software that I would like to start using on my Ubuntu 14.04 box. Here's the thing. My system sound right now goes through my HDMI to my speaker system so I can play music all day ;-) I have a bluetooth headset connected to the machine as well. What I am wondering is if there is a way to: Auto-mute the music when a call comes in Auto-switch the sound devices when a call comes in, from my hdmi sound device, to my headset Auto-switch back when the call ends, and auto-un-mute the music Or even just an auto-switch to the headset? I can always pause the music ;)

  I want to start looking for jobs in great companies and I have four years of enterprise corporations development, three years with C#.NET and alomst one year with Ruby On Rails, JS, etc... But when I look up interview questions from Google, Amazon, Fog Creek, DropBox, etc... they are really targeted at students that are coming fresh out of college and still remember what was Dynamic Programming and Dijkstra algorithms ... but I don't! :( It has been a while for me ... If a I need a sort algorithm I would either Google it or there already is a library and method that does it for me. So what should I do? Do they realize that this guy is not coming from college and will ask more general questions about software architecture or nop! I should go back find my old Data structures book from the storage and read them? In that case wht books and language do you recommend to hone my skills?

• My Laptop Battery Does Not Charge

  I am using a HP Pavilion and Ubuntu 11.10. I have been using Ubuntu for about a year. Recently (in Nov or there about), I noticed my battery never charges fully no matter how long it has been plugged in. I thought it was a problem with the power pack. However, after changing it, the problem is still persisting. I upgraded to 11.10 form 11.04 at about the same time so I do not know if this is a software or hardware issue. How do I solve this? This problem has been written about in various forms Laptop battery not charging after update?. Please help me or find someone that can.

• Better way to search for text in two columns

  Here is the scenario. I am making a custom blogging software for my site. I am implementing a search feature. It's not very sophisticated - basically it just takes the search phrase entered and runs this query: $query="SELECT * FROM `blog` WHERE `title` LIKE '%$q%' OR `post` LIKE '%$q%'"; Which is meant to simply search the title and post body for the phrase entered. Is there a better way to do that, keeping in mind how long it would take to run the query on up to 100 rows, each with a post length of up to 1500 characters? I have considered using a LIMIT statement to (sometimes) restrict the number of rows that the query would examine. Good idea?

• Gnome Shell opens as classic

  I'm running 12.04 on a Gateway LT4004u netbook, and I installed Gnome3 using the apt-get commands in the terminal. When I rebooted and ran "Gnome Shell" it opened up classic mode. I thought that my cursor might have slipped the first time, but on multiple retries logging in under gnome shell would open the gnome classic desktop. I even uninstalled Gnome Shell and reinstalled it with software center, but I still have the same problem. I was wondering if this might be an issue with my graphics card? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! -Joe

• Windows won't boot after moving house. How do I solve this?

  Ive just moved house and tried to set up my desktop after packing it away and now when I power it on, the BIOS boots up and no errors are found but when my computer tires to boot into Windows 7 a continuous fast beeping sound is made and a black screen is displayed. What I've done so far: Reset to UEFI defauts Played about with RAM, I had 4*4 GB sticks, I took all of them out to test for a mobo error which I have and now im only using 1 stick of 4 GB. Changed my GPU, I tok my gtx580 out and now im using the onboard Intel 3000 graphics driver, the BIOS and uefi are correctly displaying so I no longer think its a GPU based error. Ive check all of the connections and nothing seems to be loose. My HDD setup is: 2 128 GB SSD's in Raid 0 as my main C drive (possibly cause of error?) 1 1 TB Games drive 1 2 TB Data Drive Ive also got a blueray drive connected. After searching the internet im pretty much out of suggestions but im currently downloading a live CD to see if it will boot and if I can access some files on my HDD.

• Managing a manager who expects too much

  I am in 3rd line support. We do a lot of bug fixing (although we should be doing other stuff). Quite often, we get systems which are so badly designed and configured (at the server OS level and software level) that they are beyond repair. Yet my manager, even though he was a dev, may swear when I tell him the system is unrepairable (As the person who does our server work gives an opinion that it's FUBAR). Here is my problem, I have a pretty solid grasp of mathematics involved in Comp Sci and enjoy learning about more Comp Sci theory but in doing some minor research about Quantum Computing it seems to me to be more about hardware and I have always leant more to the software side of things. I haven't studied any physics since high school so I am wondering if I would be suitable to work in such a field with a Comp Sci degree, is it a field more aimed at physicists?

  Following a recent discussion with female associates in hiring positions for software development/engineering positions, I found out that this kind of information would be incredibly useful to helping make sure that the workforce shows a gender balance. So I went looking. I've found various literature speaking about risk-taking behaviour and patterns, and other statistical differences between men and women when it comes to work performance. See for example this article related to hedge fund management. I have yet to see any such comparison in the computing field. To restate the question: Which specific programming activities do women, on average, perform better than men? • If I am developing a hosted payments page, what should the infrastructure look like?

• Need a few reboots to connect to wireless

  I am running xubuntu 12.10 on my msi wind U100 netbook. I have a problem with the wireless connection. Whether the wireless connects automatically to a known wifi hotspot (both at home and starbucks) is temperamental. Sometimes I need to reboot one or more times to get it connected. Otherwise, it tries and keep asking me to enter the password (which is saved and when it works it does, so the problem is not with the password). Every time my computer awakes up from sleep the same problem. I have to do a reboot to connect to wireless. I searched everywhere but found no solution. I would greatly appreciate if someone has any solution. I will gladly share the hardware/software or config info, if asked, but I don't know exactly what to share and where to find them. Thanks you for any help.

• Java on Ubuntu server 12.04?

  I'm a little confused at the moment. My back story in short, is that I'm trying to set up a Minecraft server on an Ubuntu server I've recently set up, obviously to do this I needed Java, but after googling for a short while I wasn't entirely sure whether it is possible (or legal?) to do so in Ubuntu 12.04 due to licensing type issues - so I installed open JDK instead which appears not to work properly with the Minecraft server software (I half expected this) I'm now considering uninstalling open JDK and instead trying to get proper Java on there instead, my question is, is this possible? Is it Legal? And if so how do I go about doing it? Because I'm finding it very difficult to find any instructions on how to do so for 12.04 . . .

• How do you stay motivated for hobby projects?

  I started seriously programming as a hobbiest, student and then intern about 4 years ago and I've always done small projects on the side as a learning exercise. Schools over now though, and I spend my days at work as a software developer. I would still love to do projects on the side to learn about areas in computer science that I'm not exposed to at work, but I've noticed that after 8 hours of starring at an IDE it's far to tempting to veg out. Any time I do get up the gumption to work on something for a few hours lately it's gotten left by the wayside. Anyone have any advice for sticking with side projects when you spend most of your day coding?
