  • Converting a pointer for a base class into an inherited class

    Hey, I'm working on a small roguelike game, and for any object/"thing" that is not a part of the map is based off an XEntity class. There are several classes that depend on it, such as XPlayer, XItem, and XMonster. My problem is, that I want to convert a pointer from XEntity to XItem when I know that an object is in item. The sample code I am using to pick up an item is this, it is when a different entity picks up an item it is standing over. void XEntity::PickupItem() { XEntity *Ent = MapList; // Start of a linked list while(true) { if(Ent == NULL) { break; } if(Ent->Flags & ENT_ITEM) { Ent->RemoveEntity(); // Unlink from the map's linked list XItem *Item = Ent // Problem is here, type-safety // Code to link into inventory is here break; } Ent = Ent->MapList; } } My first thought was to create a method in XEntity that returns itself as an XItem pointer, but it creates circular dependencies that are unresolvable. I'm pretty stumped about this one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Button style in AlertDialogs

    Does anyone know how to override the default style for AlertDialog buttons? I've looked through the Android source for themes and styles and experimented with different things but I haven't been able to find a way that works. What I've got below works for changing the backgrounds, but doesn't do anything with the buttons. myTheme is applied to the whole <application> via the manifest.     I would like to define a style with a template when there are validation errors and would display the first error message as a tooltip.     I see the following constructs: new X will free the memory if X constructor throws. operator new() can be overloaded. The canonical definition of an operator new overload is void *operator new(heap h) and the corrisponding operator delete. The most common operator new overload is pacement new, which is void *operator new(void *p) { return p; } You almost always cannot call delete on the pointer given to placement new. This leads to a single question. How is memory cleaned up when X constructor throws and an overloaded new is used?

Hopefully, sooner or later, we will see some of them coming back to Oracle – either for the next Girl´s Day or one of our entry level positions.     Goals Create a class that associates a numeric quantity with a unit of measurement. Provide support for simple arithmetic and comparison operations. Implementation An immutable class (Could have been struct but I may try inheritance later) Unit is stored in an enumeration Supported operations: Addition w/ like units Subtraction w/ like units Multiplication by scalar Division by scalar Modulus by scalar Equals() >, >=, <, <=, == IComparable ToString() Implicit cast to Decimal The Source The souce can be downloaded from Github. Notes This class does not support any arithmetic that would modify the unit. This class is not suitable for manipulating currencies. Future Ideas Have a CompositeQuantity class that would allow quantities with unlike units to be combined. Similar currency class with support for allocations/distributions. Provide conversion between units. (Actually I think this would be best placed in an external service. Many situations I deal with require some sort of dynamic conversion ratio.)

The addition of the EnterpriseDataQuality Open Tool extends the inline Data Quality capabilities of Oracle Data Integrator with Oracle Enterprise Data Quality powerful data profiling, cleansing, matching, and monitoring capabilities. The EnterpriseDataQuality Open Tool can invoke any OEDQ Job stored in a Project. This Open Tool connects to an OEDQ server using a JMX (Java Management Extensions) interface. Once installed, this Open Tool will be found under Plugins in the Package Toolbox area: This EnterpriseDataQuality Open Tool takes a couple of parameters as inputs such as the Enterprise Data Quality Job and Project names, the OEDQ hostname and JMX port etc. With the EnterpriseDataQuality Open Tool, ODI customers can now incorporate their Oracle Enterprise Data Quality processes within their Data Integration workflows.   • Control-Break Style ADF Table - Comparing Values with Previous Row

    Sometimes you need to display data in an ADF Faces table in a control-break layout style, where rows should be "indented" when the break column has the same value as in the previous row. In the screen shot below, you see how the table breaks on both the RegionId column as well as the CountryId column. To implement this I didn't use fancy SQL statements. The table is based on a straightforward Locations ViewObject that is based on the Locations entity object and the Countries reference entity object, and the join query was automatically created by adding the reference EO.     I have the following classes: Teacher Student Class (like a school class) They all extend from KObject that has the following code: - initWithKey - send - processKey Teacher, Student Class all use the functions processKey and initWithKey from KObject parent class. They implement their own version of send. The problem I have is that KObject should not be instantiated ever. It is more like an abstract class, but there is no abstract class concept in objective-c. It is only useful for allowing subclasses to have access to one property and two functions. What can I do so that KObject cannot be instantiated but still allow subclasses to have access to the functions and properties of KObject?
