• Anyone know of a Java reporting tools which has a web based visual report designer?

  We're currently evaluating different Java reporting engines, and having a web-based ad-hoc report designer is a requirement. We don't need anything too fancy, but we need users to be able to define a report with columns X, grouped by Y, sorted by Z, etc... We've found that many of the open source tools do have graphical report designers, but the designers are typically not web based. (For example, iReport from JasperReports seems to be an application, not a web tool) Can anyone recommend a reporting tool which meets this web-based requirement?

  I have a form on my web page, it allows to submit many queries to my website, every query is on a separate line in TextArea. Because waiting for all queries to complete is too long I would like to update the web page after every query completes - send result of one query to a web browser, new result should be appended to old results that are already on the web page. In this post, I will demonstrate on working with domain entity with deep object graph, Service Layer and View Models and will also complete the rest of the demo application. In the previous post, we have done CRUD operations against Category entity and this post will be focus on Expense entity those have an association with Category entity. While we are creating a new Expense, we have to specify that in which Category belongs with the new Expense transaction. The user interface for Expense transaction will have form fields for representing the Expense entity and a CategoryId for representing the Category. ASP.NET MVC futures assembly provides a static class ModelCopier that can use for copying values between Model objects. ModelCopier class has two static methods - CopyCollection and CopyModel.CopyCollection method will copy values between two collection objects and CopyModel will copy values between two model objects. We have used CopyModel method of ModelCopier class for copying values from expenseViewModel object to expense object. Finally we did a call to CreateExpense method of ExpenseService class for persisting new expense transaction. List Expense Transactions We want to list expense transactions based on a date range. The Ajax.BeginForm() method writes an opening <form> tag to the response. You can use this method in a using block. In that case, the method renders the closing </form> tag at the end of the using block and the form is submitted asynchronously by using JavaScript. The search functionality will call the Index Action method and this will return partial view ExpenseList for updating the search result. We want to update the response UI for the Ajax request onto divExpenseList element. So we have specified the UpdateTargetId as "divExpenseList" in the Ajax.BeginForm method. Add jQuery DatePicker Our search functionality is using a date range so we are providing two date pickers using jQuery datepicker. You need to add reference to the following JavaScript files to working with jQuery datepicker. - jquery-ui.js - jquery.ui.datepicker.js For theme support for datepicker, we can use a customized CSS class. In our example we have used a CSS file “jquery-ui-1.8.6.custom.css”. For more details about the datepicker component, visit jquery UI website at http://jqueryui.com/demos/datepicker . My primary objective was to demonstrate different practices and options for developing web apps using ASP.NET MVC 3 and EF Code First. You can implement these approaches in your own way for building web apps using ASP.NET MVC 3. I will refactor this demo app on later time.

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to generate a report directly from the code (to send it by mail after). I make this in a windows service. • ASP.net MVC HttpException strange file not found

  I'm running asp.net MVC site on IIS6 - I've edited my routing to look like the following: routes.MapRoute( "Default", "{controller}.aspx/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } ); routes.MapRoute( "Root", "", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } ); So all my urls now contain .aspx (as per one of the solutions from Phil Haack). Now, I catch all unhandled exceptions using Elmah, and for almost every page request, I get the following error caught by Elmah, that I never see on the front end (everything works perfectly): System.Web.HttpException: The file '/VirtualDirectoryName/Home.aspx' does not exist.   Hi Experts, I just got done with a new Web module built with Spring Framework. Till now I was testing all the pages on my local machine using Tomcat. Today after I moved the application to Websphere, I am getting the following error: Error 404: No target servlet configured for uri is there anything I need to do in web.xml or somewhere? I deployed an EAR file on my WAS , which has another war file. Below is the output I am seeing on the console, if thats any help. The resource WEB-INF/ibm-web-bnd.xmi that is defined in URI WEB-INF/ibm-web-bnd.xmi for module analytics.war is not valid. The resource has a cross reference org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.webapplication.internal.impl.WebAppImpl@4be44be4 (eProxyURI: WEB-INF/web.xml#WebApp_ID) that cannot be resolved. • Can't get past "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected..." error

  I'm doing my first ASP.NET MVC2 project and I can't get past the "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected..." error when trying to submit a form. I've done this in MVC1 using the ValidateInputAttribute and I've read about the breaking change in .NET 4 that requires setting the request validation mode in the web.config. Basically I'm doing exactly what is outlined in this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2019843/a-potentially-dangerous-request-form-value-in-mvc-2-asp-net-4-0. Nothing's working though so I must be missing something. I have tried to log the errors, but from the errors messages I'm not able to solve the problem.   I am stuck on how to create tags for each post on my site. I am not sure how to add the tags into database. Currently... The postingtags shows the relation between posting and tags. When users type a posting, I insert the data into the "posting" table. The problem only occurs on the first two that are running 2008 non R2. Running depends.exe on all three servers gives equal results for the nonR2 servers: My DLL is shown as x86 (compiled as AnyCPU, running in x64 w3wp), all other modules show as x64. Missing IESHIMS.DLL and LINKINFO.DLL - both of these seem to be red herrings according to Google. The third server shows the same, except it does not miss LINKINFO.DLL All servers are running IIS7 (7.5 for the R2 one) under a custom domain account that has been granted the necessary permissions: aspnet_regiis -ga [user] Load user profile is set to false on all three servers. I've tried setting this to true on one of the faulting servers, according to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1846816/iis7-failed-to-grant-minimum-permission-requests By running processmonitor I can see that it's now using the C:\Users\TEMP\AppData\Local\Temp directory for various temp files - the other ones are not using any such directory. So far I'll let it run in this way to see if this changes anything. I'm in doubt however given that the third server is not exhibiting the problems, yet still has "Load user profile" set to the same value, false. I've also tried running Fuslogvw on all three servers, logging binding failures to disk. All three servers report the same binding errors for VJSharpCodeProvider and CppCodeProvider, but these seem to be normal as well and can be solved by not defining the DEBUG and TRACE constants during build. We're running about 500 websites on each server (identical, load balanced), of which 50 are under moderate load, the problem has arisen both under heavy load as well as under minimal load however. Right now I'm waiting for the errors to happen again so I can hopefully see a pattern and determine whether "Load user profile" alleviates the issue. Any suggestions in the meantime would be very welcome! Also, I don't understand how the lack of "Load user profile" would cause an issue like this? And even further, how it would seemingly work on R2 but not on plain 2008? Thanks!

The script itself works fine (it copies the contents of the cards), but the automounting and execution of the script is where I'm having issues. What I'm really after is a solution that automounts each of the cards as they are inputted into the reader; and executes a script for them (this will involve copying their contents to another directory). Going mount /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000\:00\:1d.7-usb-0\:4.4\:1.0-scsi-0\:0\:0\:0-part1 Works and places the card under /media/usbdisk/, however: mount /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000\:00\:1d.7-usb-0\:4.4\:1.0-scsi-0\:0\:0\:0-part1 slot1/ doesn't work, and returns "mount: can't get address for /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000" Any ideas and solutions would be great, I've seen the knowledge of a lot of the guys on here before so I'm hopeful someone can help me out. • How do I add a reference to a Web Application Project in an Associated Class Library?

  I'm working on an internet application that has been set up as a web SITE project (I know...) in Visual Studio. I need to add additional features/functionality so have added a class library to the project and referred to it in the main web site project. The issue now arises because I need to make use of core objects which live inside the App_Code directory in the web site project but this project doesn't appear to expose its DLL like web app/ code library projects do. Because of this I can't add a reference to the web site project in the class library to leverage the common site-wide code/objects. I can't move the stuff out of App_Code so I'm looking for a way to refer to the website project dll from the new class library. Can anyone suggest a workaround? All help v. gratefully received :-)

The only thing I really want is that users navigating from web app 1 to web app 2 (and vice versa) do not have to authenticate twice. I do NOT want to configure Kerberos if it is not absolutely necessare though... Can you give me any hints? Thanks!

• Is SQL Server Compact *ever* OK to use on a web server?

  I'd like to host a personal database for about 500 people (1 database per person) on my web server. A person could possibly share their database with a friend or two. On my web server, I'd have some web services, perhaps for doing synchronization, and maybe even an ASP.NET Web Forms front end to the database. If I restart my IIS web server, would this likely cause database corruptions? Would this be expected to perform ok? If not Compact, should I instead use SQL Express and create a database in SQL Server for each of my 500 people?
