We are using a web scraper and have it set up to have a sleep function which has a random function set up (so that it isn't the same time between each scrape) but we are still getting blocked from Yahoo after 20-30 requests.
Does any one know if there is a limit (i.e: 20 requests per minutes, 200 an hour) Right now our average between each request is around 3-6 seconds. Thanks for any help
Hi,
I'm wondering where is the ideal place to store custom permissions in my web applications.
For example I have the following permissions:
AdminPermission
ReadPermission
WritePermission
At the moment I store these in the static utilities class as the constant string type objects.
Thank you
I Have an N-Pages PDF linked in a my web page.
I want to be able to browse the PDF, with next and prev arrows, page numbers, etc etc
I want to be able to browse the PDF without using any Flash Plugin.
I also want to normalize the browsing behaviour, so i don't want to use the default PDF plugin of the browser.
I'm looking for a JS plugin but i don't find interesting solutions.
Any other suggestions ?

I am looking for mobile development blogs that you can recommend. Specifically, I would to know about blogs on mobile application development (like Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, J2ME etc) and also blogs about mobile web development. Is there any SMTP service's that I can use instead? A friend told me about sendgrid.com, but that's the only one i've heard of.
We've got a PHP crawler running on our web server. When the crawler is running, there are no cpu, memory or network bandwidth spikes. Everything is normal. But our website (also PHP), hosted on the same server, stops responding. Basically the crawler blocks any other php script from running.
What could be the problem?
EDIT:
** fsockopen is being used to download files to crawler! **
Example:
public class Service1 : System.Web.Services.WebService
{
[WebMethod]
public int Add(int x, int y)
{
string request = getRawSOAPRequest();//How could you implement this part?
//.. do something with complete soap request
int sum = x + y;
return sum;
}
}
thanks!

If you have a web page served from https://mydumbwebsite.com, and it has an iframe in it that serves from https://subdomain.mydumbwebsite.com, should I expect a significant number of browsers (like 1% of the current browsers in use) to show a security warning?
Please don't guess at this. I would like an answer based on real-world experience, if possible.
I've seen some questions where people have trouble with accessing .NET SOAP web services from PHP and there appears to be an issue with namespaces when using a distributed WSDL.
Are there any other problems with the inbuilt SOAP support in PHP 5.3?
I am new to programming and only know html,css,PHP and would like to start learning another new language. I am focused on web development and would just like to get your opinion on ASP.net and python.
Which language would serve me best in making sites as to general programming? ASP.NET or django python?
I know Python is "easy to learn" and similar to PHP, but ASP.net is also a good language.
I'm working on a web application and I'm using the img tag (<img...>).
When the src property is empty, it shows the red x figure indicating that there is no image.
Is there any way to hide that red X icon?

Is it ok if everythingis looking ok but html and css are not valid , for CMS's Admin/control panel?
Should we only consider Web-standards for site, not necessary for site-management tools?
for example
:http://site.com/wp-admin
:http://site.com/admin/
I want to get the current weather conditions from the NOAA. I know they have a SOAP web service that can be used to get weather forecasts and XML files for current weather conditions for each of their weather stations. I could just use the XML file for the weather station nearest to where I want, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to search for the proper xml file by zipcode. Is there a simple way to get current weather conditions by zipcode from the NOAA?
Building an iPhone OS application that will allow users to anonymously post information to a web application (in my particular case it will be a Rails based site) ... and I want to ensure that I only accept posts that originate from a specific application running on an iPhone/iTouch.
How is this best accomplished?
(btw, if your answer applies to Android please feel free to post it here as well as I'm curious to know if the techniques are the same or vary).
Thanks
If I'm returning ["foo"] from a RESTful web query, Which of these is more proper? Will pedantic REST parsing die on the newline?
["foo"]\n (with newline, Content-Length=8)
["foo"] (no newline, Content-Length=7)
For easy regression testing I like the form with the newline, but I want to make sure I won't be breaking any application frameworks that might have a more strict view of the REST format.
I've checked out the usefule link how to download a file from internet using Delphi and my question related but I would appreciate a pointer to get started. I need to be able to copy all files in a web server folder down to a local folder. I wont know how many files there are, or indeed whether there is an internet connection. Are there component(s) that would help me please? Or can I use Windows API?
Thanks
Brian
HI There,
My organization is working on building RESTful webservices on JBoss appserver. The QA team is used to testing SOAP webservices so far using SoapUI. SoapUI has a new version that has REST capabilities. We're considering using that.
1) Are there any publicly available RESTful services available on the net for free that someone could test ?
2) What tools are available(and used) for testing RESTful web services ?
Thank you in Advance,
BR,

(From the point of view of a user, not how it's built or which option is selected in Visual Studio)
...What is the difference between a "website" and a "web application"?
Is there a difference?
Are there characteristics that characterise the two?
Hi,
I just deployed a web application on JBOSS 4.2. It can be accessed locally only (http://localhost:8080/myApp).
I cant access it from remote computer by typing its domain: (www.hostname.com:8080/myApp).
I added Port 8080 as Exception in Windows Firewall.
Note that the host (www.hostname.com) is reachable from remote computers via IIS on port 80.
Thanks,
Rod
