  • ASP.NET Pivot Grid Supports Horizontal ScrollBar v2010 vol 1

The ASPxPivotGrid is coming out with a very useful horizontal scrollbar that gives you more screen space and removes the need to use the browsers horizontal scrollbar. Heres the details of the new property and its behavior: A new Boolean property called, ASPxPivotGrid.OptionsView.ShowHorzScrollBar was added to ASPxPivotGrid for the v2010.1 release. The horizontal scrollbar will not be automatically shown because the default value is set to False. • Shinkansen for ASP.NET MVC Now Available

While building Morts and Elvises with MVC2, I cut over Shinkansen to support MVC syntax within views and master pages. I’ve included a sample MVC project, which you can either download from Codeplex or view online: view or download source code. In either case, peek inside Site.Master and you’ll see CSS includes at the top… <%= ShinkansenMvc.Includes (c = { c.AddCss ("~/assets/css/addthis_widget.css"); c.AddCss ("/assets/css/reset.css"); c.AddCss ("assets/css/sifr.css"); ...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Documenting a Access Application for Developers

    - by Nitrodist
I need to document a MS-Access application that was created, developed and maintained completely by a power-user over 10 years. This is an interesting situation because what they want is a manual so that a future developer can come in without prior domain knowledge and make changes to the frontend or the backend in a timely manner. There are a few questions on my mind for this little project: What is a good manual design creating application? Microsoft Word doesn't quite cut it. What kind of things would you, the developer, need to know in order to make changes to things like forms, reports, tables or other Access objects? Anything else I missed? Any pitfalls?

  • Workstation hardware at does your company buy developers?

    - by Bosh
I'm curious to know what workstation hardware companies are devoting to you, as a developer -- and how much they're spending. I'd consider this thread a big success if I could shed some light on these questions: Do engineers at big companies use substantially different hardware than engineers at start-ups companies? Does a fresh developer recruit at Google get substantially different hardware from someone in the same position at Microsoft or Yahoo!? Do programmers in more senior positions have more powerful hardware on their desks? Does anyone think faster hardware makes more efficient engineers?

  • VS2010 changes your ASP.NET Version on setup projects to 4 - regardless

    - by blomqvist
When converting your projects to VS2010 you get the question to migrate them to .net4. But even if you do not do that VS set the ASP.NET version to 4 for setup projects. And then when you try to install your application on a machine that does not have .NET 4 installed you will get the error message: “Could not open key: Software\Microsoft\ASP.NET\4.0.30128.0. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel” What you need to do is to change the ASP.NET version back to 2.0 if that is what you want to use. You do that in the properties of the setup project.

  • Developing web app, question for mobile developers

    - by Stephen Kellett
I'm going to develop a web app that I expect some people will also end up wanting to view on their phones. The UI will be fairly straightforward (no frames, just CSS/HTML). May have a bit of Flash, but not for the first version. My question is, for testing viewing of the web app on mobile devices what devices would you recommend that I test on (and thus, most likely, have to purchase)? Windows Mobile iPhone Android Other? or can I use emulators for any/all of these? Note that I'm not developing a platform (android, iPhone) specific app, just a web application that I expect will also be accessed from a mobile phone. I apologise if this seems like a niave/stupid question, but this hobby project is totally away from my commercial experience and I just don't know the answers to these questions, hence asking here. Thanks for reading.
