  • how to learn a library/framework structure?

    - by fayer
a lot of people are contributing to open source libraries/frameworks. i wonder how these people learn the structure so that they can contribute? lets take doctrine and symfony as an example. is there a blueprint over these frameworks to give the developers an insight of the structure? or do they just download it and study the code? how does it work? please you contributors, share your learning strategies! thanks

  • Total Number of records required in paged .NET datagrid control

    - by sumitchauhan
I am using a data grid and has bound a data source with it. I am trying to get the total number of records in the grid in overriden InitializePager method from pagedDataSource DataSourceCount. I thought DataSourceCount returns number of records from SelectCountMethod of ObjectDataSource, but DataSourceCount is giving me the page size and not the total number of records, whereas when I debug and see in SelectCountMethod it is returning correct number of total Records. I am not sure how to get the data from SelectCountMethod in DataGrid.

Is there a version of the CUPS server available for Windows? Looking at the CUPS source code it seems it is ready for Visual Studio compilation, but I did not find any trace of an actual supported package. I'd like to set up a CUPS server on Windows so that I can print form Linux/MacOSX/Win clients to printers I set up on this server.

  • iphone scrolling ticker example?

    - by tbacos
I'm looking at adding a user comment ticker to my iPhone/iPad polling app (Show of Hands). The comments would obviously need to be pulled from a central web source - either a database or perhaps even simple flat files. The ticker would also need to support basic controls (speed, pause, etc.) Can anyone that had tried doing something like this point me to your work and/or pass along any implemetation ideas? Thanks! -tony

  • When I debug my application I get frequently Launch error: Failed to connect to remote VM

    - by Pentium10
When I debug my application I get frequently Launch error: Failed to connect to remote VM even If I try again it doesn't help, I need to restart Eclipse. Edit Not sure yet fully if the symptoms have to do with the fact that I get this error only when I launch Debug without a code modification. Whenever I do a modification to the source code and hit Debug it goes through, but if I don't it doesn't.

  • How can I persuade our team to use mac as our development platform?

    - by Allen Bargi
I'm joining a start up and there's a debate on which platform we should choose for our development; Mac, Linux or Windows? We're gonna use mainly open source tools and languages like, ruby, rails, PHP and mysql and photoshop (or something equivalent on Linux) for design. I suggested mac but they challenged me to be more persuasive. what's your idea? Help me with your persuasive arguments please.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to make a jabber bot and I am having trouble keeping it running while waiting for messages. How do I get my script to continuously run? I have tried calling a subroutine that has a while loop that I , in theory, have set up to check for any messages and react accordingly but my script isn't behaving that way.
