  • jQuery tooltip: Trouble with remove()

    - by Rosarch
    I'm using a jQuery tooltip plugin. I have HTML like this: <li class="term ui-droppable"> <strong>Fall 2011</strong> <li class="course ui-draggable">Biological Statistics I<a class="remove-course-button" href="">[X]</a></li> <div class="term-meta-data"> <p class="total-credits too-few-credits">Total credits: 3</p> <p class="median-GPA low-GPA">Median Historical GPA: 2.00</p> </div> </li> I want to remove the .course element. So, I attach a click handler to the <a>: function _addDeleteButton(course, term) { var delete_button = $('<a href="" class="remove-course-button" title="Remove this course">[X]</a>'); course.append(delete_button); $(delete_button).click(function() { course.remove(); return false; }).tooltip(); } This all works fine, in terms of attaching the click handler. However, when course.remove() is called, Firebug reports an error in tooltip.js: Line 282 tsettings is null if ((!IE || !$.fn.bgiframe) && tsettings.fade) { What am I doing wrong? If the link has a tooltip attached, do I need to remove it specially? UPDATE: Removing .tooltip() solve the problem. I'd like to keep it in, but that makes me suspect that my use of .tooltip() is incorrect here.

  • How to make Web Storage persistent in Cordova using JS?

    - by ett
    I have a small quiz app, which is a cross-platform mobile app, that I plan for it to run on Android, iOS, and WP8. I want to store a local highscore, where it will keep track how many points the user had, and if he/she does better than the already stored highscore, update the current highscore. Though, I want the highscore to be persistent, what I mean is, every time the user opens the app I want the last highscore to be present and it to be compared with the new quiz score. Meaning, I don't want the highscore to be deleted after each time the app is closed. I also want for the first time when the app is ran, the highscore to be set to 0, so obviously the first time the user finishes the quiz gets a new highscore. I have those codes so far: scoredb.js // Wait for device API libraries to load document.addEventListener("deviceready", initScoreDB, false); // Device APIs are available function initScoreDB() { window.localStorage.setItem("score", 0); highscore = window.localStorage.getItem("score"); } main.js var correct = 0; var highscore; // In between I have some code that keeps incrementing // correct variable for each correct answer. if (correct > highscore) { window.localStorage.setItem("score", correct); highscore = correct; } It does seem to work okay once the app is started. I did the quiz three times, in the simulator, and it keeps the score as it should. Though, each time I open the app, highscore is reseted to 0. I guess it is due to the fact that I call initScoreDB when the device is ready, and I initialize the score to 0 there and give that value to highscore. Can someone help me to initialize the score to 0 only when the app is ran for the first time, and all the other times to keep the latest highscore as the current highscore and compare it each time with the score that is achieved when the quiz is finished. If someone can help me, I would be glad.

  • Is there a jQuery plugin for error messages at top like Twitter?

    - by sami
    I'm looking for a jquery plugin that would create an errors div like what twitter has. The div gets added by the plugin, it stays hidden while it doesn't have content, then when a message gets added to it, it appears at the top (with either a close button option or automatic disappear after an x number of seconds). It's not too difficult to write, but there would be no reason to write it if it's already been done before. Anyone knows of a plugin like that?

  • navigator.onLine

    - by cf_PhillipSenn
    I'm playing with the incomplete example found at http://www.w3.org/TR/offline-webapps/ But I'm distressed to see comments in it like: "renders the note somewhere", and "report error", and "// …" So, will someone please help me write a valid example? Here's what I've got so far: <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html manifest="cache-manifest"> <head> <script> var db = openDatabase("notes", "", "The Example Notes App!", 1048576); function renderNote(row) { // renders the note somewhere } function reportError(source, message) { // report error } function renderNotes() { db.transaction(function(tx) { tx.executeSql('CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS Notes(title TEXT, body TEXT)', []); tx.executeSql(‘SELECT * FROM Notes’, [], function(tx, rs) { for(var i = 0; i < rs.rows.length; i++) { renderNote(rs.rows[i]); } }); }); } function insertNote(title, text) { db.transaction(function(tx) { tx.executeSql('INSERT INTO Notes VALUES(?, ?)', [ title, text ], function(tx, rs) { // … }, function(tx, error) { reportError('sql', error.message); }); }); } </script> <style> label { display:block; } </style> </head> <body> <form> <label for="mytitle">Title:</label> <input name="mytitle"> <label for="mytext">Text:</label> <textarea name="mytext"></textarea> <!-- There is no submit button because I want to save the info on every keystroke --> </form> </body> </html> I also know that I have to incorporate this in there somewhere: if (navigator.onLine) { // Send data using XMLHttpRequest } else { // Queue data locally to send later } But I'm not sure what even I would tie that too.

  • Dual slider control with custom skin

    - by Ryan French
    Hi All, I'm currently trying to create a page for users to select two points from a range, using a slide control. The first point in the range is when an alert will be sent to the user, the second point is a max limit. What I would like to do is have the bar colored green from the 0 point to the first slider point, then orange between the two sliders, and lastly red from the second slider up to the other end of the bar. Does anyone know of an easy was I can do this or of a slider control that can be skinned to do this?

  • How to access and run field events from extension js?

    - by Dan Roberts
    I have an extension that helps in submitting forms automatically for a process at work. We are running into a problem with dual select boxes where one option is selected and then that selection changes another field's options. Since setting an option selected property to true doesn't trigger the field's onchange event I am trying to do so through code. The problem I've run into is that if I try to access or run functions on the field object from the extension, I get the error Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component is not available" nsresult: "0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://webformsidebar/content/webformsidebar.js :: WebFormSidebar_FillProcess :: line 499" data: no] the line causing the error is... if (typeof thisField.onchange === 'function') The line right before it works just fine... thisField.options[t].selected=true; ...so I'm not sure why this is resulting in such an error. What surprises me most I guess is that checking for the existence of the function leads to an error. It feels like the problem is related to the code running in the context of the extension instead of the browser window document. If so, is there any way to call a function in the browser window context instead? Do I need to actually inject code into the page somehow? Any other ideas? Thanks

  • Can't get YUI animations to wait until the first has finished

    - by Andy Cairns
    Hi there, I have 3 animations that run when I load my page. A header descends from the top and a footer ascends from the bottom. Also, my main logo goes from fully transparent to fully opaque. I'm using the YUI framework for the animations. My problem is that they all happen at the same time. I'd like the header & footer animations to go at the same time but the logo to wait until the others have finished. setTimeout doesn't appear to work (the animation triggers immediately). I've also tried a while loop to wait until the currentFrame = a certain number but my loops seem to stop everything from working. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks Andy

  • overriding previously-bound click events

    - by JamesBrownIsDead
    When I use this code with an element whose id is "foobar": $("#foobar").click(function () { alert("first"); }); $("#foobar").click(function () { alert("second"); }); I get two alerts: "first" and "second" second. How do I specify a click event that also clears out any previous click events attached to the element? I want the last $("#foobar").click(...) to erase any previously bound events.

  • How to serialize data from processing.js to rails application ?

    - by railscoder
    Hi I am creating a simple canvas using processing.js , how to pass values from rails application to Processing.js void drawBox(int bx, int by, int bs, int bs){ strokeWeight(3); stroke(50,50,50); // Test if the cursor is over the box if (mouseX > bx-bs && mouseX < bx+bs && mouseY > by-bs && mouseY < by+bs) { bover = true; if(!locked) { fill(181,213,255); } } else { fill(255); bover = false; } fill(192); stroke(64); roundRect(bx, by,80,30,10,10); // put in text if (!isRight) { text("Box Value", x-size+5, y-5); //Here i need to pass value from my controller } else { text("Box Value", x+5, y-5); //Here i need to pass value from my controller } } Instead of static string "Box Value" , I need to pass the value from the ex @post.name through ajax

  • "Access is denied" error on accessing iframe document object

    - by Ovesh
    For posting AJAX forms in a form with many parameters, I am using a solution of creating an iframe, posting the form to it by POST, and then accessing the iframe's content. specifically, I am accessing the content like this: $("some_iframe_id").get(0).contentWindow.document I tested it and it worked. On some of the pages, I started getting an "Access is denied" error. As far as I know, this shouldn't happen if the iframe is served from the same domain. I'm pretty sure it was working before. Anybody have a clue? If I'm not being clear enough: I'm posting to the same domain. So this is not a cross-domain request. I am testing on IE only. P.S. I can't use simple ajax POST queries (don't ask...)

  • jQuery gallery turn over with next and previous buttons

    - by Ralf
    Hi, i'm trying to do some kind of Gallery-Turn Over Script with jQuery. Therefor i got an array with - let's say 13 - images: galleryImages = new Array( 'images/tb_01.jpg', 'images/tb_02.jpg', 'images/tb_03.jpg', 'images/tb_04.jpg', 'images/tb_05.jpg', 'images/tb_06.jpg', 'images/tb_07.jpg', 'images/tb_08.jpg', 'images/tb_09.jpg', 'images/tb_10.jpg', 'images/tb_11.jpg', 'images/tb_12.jpg', 'images/tb_13.jpg' ); My gallery looks like a grid showing only 9 images at once. My current script already counts the number of li-elements in #gallery, loads the first 9 images and displays them. The HTML looks like this: <ul id="gallery"> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> </ul> <ul id="gallery-controls"> <li id="gallery-prev"><a href="#">Previous</a></li> <li id="gallery-next"><a href="#">Next</a></li> </ul> I'm pretty new to jQuery an my problem is that i can't figure out how to split the array in portions with 9 elements to attach it as a link on the control buttons. I need something like this: $('#gallery-next').click(function(){ $('ul#gallery li').children().remove(); $('ul#gallery li').each(function(index,el){ var img = new Image(); $(img).load(function () { $(this).css('display','none'); $(el).append(this); $(this).fadeIn(); }).attr('src', galleryImages[index]); //index for the next 9 images?!?! }); }); Thanks for help!

  • How to access fields in JSON object by index

    - by Stefan
    I know this isn't the best way to do it, but I have no other choice :( I have to access the items in JSONObject by their index. The standard way to access objects is to just wirte this[objectName] or this.objectName. I also found a method to get all the fields inside a json object: (for (var key in p) { if (p.hasOwnProperty(key)) { alert(key + " -> " + p[key]); } } (Soruce : Loop through Json object). However there is no way of accessing the JSONfields directly by a index. The only way I see right now, is to create an array, with the function above, get the fieldname by index and then get the value by fieldname. As far as I see it, the p (in our case the JSON file must be an iteratable array to, or else the foreach loop wouldn't work. How can I access this array directly? Or is it some kind of unsorted list? Regards, Stefan

  • Legitimate uses of the Function constructor

    - by Marcel Korpel
    As repeatedly said, it is considered bad practice to use the Function constructor (also see the ECMAScript Language Specification, 5th edition, § 15.3.2.1): new Function ([arg1[, arg2[, … argN]],] functionBody) (where all arguments are strings containing argument names and the last (or only) string contains the function body). To recapitulate, it is said to be slow, as explained by the Opera team: Each time […] the Function constructor is called on a string representing source code, the script engine must start the machinery that converts the source code to executable code. This is usually expensive for performance – easily a hundred times more expensive than a simple function call, for example. (Mark ‘Tarquin’ Wilton-Jones) Though it's not that bad, according to this post on MDC (I didn't test this myself using the current version of Firefox, though). Crockford adds that [t]he quoting conventions of the language make it very difficult to correctly express a function body as a string. In the string form, early error checking cannot be done. […] And it is wasteful of memory because each function requires its own independent implementation. Another difference is that a function defined by a Function constructor does not inherit any scope other than the global scope (which all functions inherit). (MDC) Apart from this, you have to be attentive to avoid injection of malicious code, when you create a new Function using dynamic contents. Lots of disadvantages and it is intelligible that ECMAScript 5 discourages the use of the Function constructor by throwing an exception when using it in strict mode (§ 13.1). That said, T.J. Crowder says in an answer that [t]here's almost never any need for the similar […] new Function(...), either, again except for some advanced edge cases. So, now I am wondering: what are these “advanced edge cases”? Are there legitimate uses of the Function constructor?

  • Adding ID's to google map markers

  • Animation with Initial Velocity

    - by abustin
    I've been trying to solve this problem for a number of days now but I must be missing something. Known Variables: vi = Initial Velocity t = Animation Duration d = Distance The function I'm trying to create: D(t) = the current distance for a given time Using this information I want to be able to create a smooth animation curve with varying velocity (ease-in/ease-out). The animation must be able ease-in from an initial velocity. The animation must be exactly t seconds and must be travel exactly d units. The curve should lean towards the average velocity with acceleration occurring at the beginning and the end portions of the curve. I'm open to extra configuration variables. The best I've been able to come up with is something that doesn't factor in the initial velocity. I'm hoping someone smarter can help me out. ;) Thank you! p.s. I'm working with an ECMAScript variant

  • Accomplishing This Style of Drop-Down Menus in jQuery

    - by Maxim Z.
    I was browsing the web and found this site. I noticed how the nav bar drop-down works, and I want to implement something similar on my website. Afer going into the source code of the page, I found that those drop-down areas are contained in divs with class fOut. It turns out that this is being done with MooTools. Here is the script itself (referenced in the original page after the Mootools script itself): window.addEvent('domready', function() { $("primaryNav").getChildren("li").addEvents({ "mouseenter": function(){ $(this).addClass("hover").getChildren("a").addClass("hover"); }, "mouseleave": function(){ $(this).removeClass("hover").getChildren("a").removeClass("hover"); } }); $$(".fOut").each(function(el,i){ var ifr = $(document.createElement("iframe")); ifr.className = "ieBgIframe"; ifr.frameBorder = "0"; ifr.src="about:blank"; ifr.injectInside(el); var p = el.getParent(); p.addClass("hover"); var h = el.getSize().size.y; p.removeClass("hover"); ifr.height=h; }); $$(".olderVersionsToggle").addEvents({ "click": function(e){ var event = new Event(e); event.stop(); var p = $(this).getParent().getNext(); if(p.hasClass("open")){ p.removeClass("open"); $(this).setText("Show previous versions..."); } else{ p.addClass("open"); $(this).setText("Hide previous versions..."); } return false; } }); }); My Question(s) I have two questions about this code. How does it work? I don't quite understand what it's doing, with the iframes and all. How can this be implemented in jQuery?

  • Ajax long polling (comet) + php on lighttpd v1.4.22 multiple instances problem.

    - by fibonacci
    Hi, I am new to this site, so I really hope I will provide all the necessary information regarding my question. I've been trying to create a "new message arrived notification" using long polling. Currently I am initiating the polling request by window.onLoad event of each page in my site. On the server side I have an infinite loop: while(1){ if(NewMessageArrived($current_user))break; sleep(10); } echo $newMessageCount; On the client side I have the following (simplified) ajax functions: poll_new_messages(){ xmlhttp=GetXmlHttpObject(); //... xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=got_new_message_count; //... xmlhttp.send(); } got_new_message_count(){ if (xmlhttp.readyState==4){ updateMessageCount(xmlhttp.responseText); //... poll_new_messages(); } } The problem is that with each page load, the above loop starts again. The result is multiple infinite loops for each user that eventually make my server hang. *The NewMessageArived() function queries MySQL DB for new unread messages. *At the beginning of the php script I run start_session() in order to obtain the $current_user value. I am currently the only user of this site so it is easy for me to debug this behavior by writing time() to a file inside this loop. What I see is that the file is being written more often than once in 10 seconds, but it starts only when I go from page to page. Please let me know if any additional information might help. Thank you.

  • jquery get last ID of dynamic div

    - by Pjack
    Couldn't find an answer, but Im trying to get the last ID of the last div that was created on the page. The code I'm using doesn't seem to work using .last(). My syntax is probably wrong but I can't get it to show the ID. jQuery(document).ready(function() {jQuery("a.more_posts").live('click', function(event){ jQuery("div[id^='statuscontainer_']").last(); var id = parseInt(this.id.replace("statuscontainer_", "")); alert(id); }); });

  • jQuery ajax returns

    - by Tom
    I think this will be some obvious problem, but I cannot figure it out. I hope someone can help me. So I have a slider with 3 slides - Intro, Question, Submit Now I want to make sure that if the question is answered wrong people cannot slide to Submit. The function to move slide is like this: function changeSlide(slide){ // In case current slide is question check the answer if (jQuery('.modalSteps li.current',base).hasClass('questionStep')){ checkAnswer(jQuery('input[name="question_id"]',base).val(), jQuery('input[name="answer"]:checked',base).val()); } jQuery('.modalSteps li.current',base).fadeOut('fast',function(){ jQuery(this).removeClass('current'); jQuery(slide).fadeIn('fast',function(){ jQuery(slide).addClass('current'); }); }); // In case the new slide is question, load the question if (jQuery(slide).hasClass('questionStep')){ var country = jQuery('input[name="country"]:checked',base).val(); loadQuestion(country); } } Now as you can see on first lines, I am calling function checkAnswer, which takes id of question and id of answer and pass it to the AJAX call. function checkAnswer(question, answer){ jQuery.ajax({ url: window.base_url+'ajax/check_answer/'+question+'/'+answer+'/', success: function(data){ if (!data.success){ jQuery('.question',base).html(data.message); } } }); } The problem i am having is that I cannot say if(checkAnswer(...)){} Because of Ajax it always returns false or undefined. What I need is something like this: function changeSlide(slide){ // In case current slide is question check the answer if (jQuery('.modalSteps li.current',base).hasClass('questionStep')){ if (!checkAnswer(jQuery('input[name="question_id"]',base).val(), jQuery('input[name="answer"]:checked',base).val())){ return false; } } ... So it will prevent the slide from moving on. Now when Im thinking about it, I will probably have slide like "Wrong answer" so I could just move the slide there, but I would like to see the first solution anyway. Thank you for tips

  • How to pass dynamic parameters to .pde file

    - by Kalpana
    class Shape contains two methods drawCircle() and drawTriangle(). Each function takes different set of arguments. At present, I invoke this by calling the pde file directly. How to pass these arguments from a HTML file directly if I have to control the arguments being passed to the draw function? 1) Example.html has (current version) <script src="processing-1.0.0.min.js"></script> <canvas data-processing-sources="example.pde"></canvas> 2) Example.pde has class Shape { void drawCircle(intx, int y, int radius) { ellipse(x, y, radius, radius); } void drawTriangle(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2, int x3, int y3) { rect(x1, y1, x2, y2, x3, y3); } } Shape shape = new Shape(); shape.drawCircle(10, 40, 70); I am looking to do something like this in my HTML file, so that I can move all the functions into a separate file and call them with different arguments to draw different shapes (much similar to how you would do it in Java) A.html <script> Shape shape = new Shape(); shape.drawCircle(10, 10, 3); </script> B.html <script> Shape shape = new Shape(); shape.drawTriangle(30, 75, 58, 20, 86, 75); </script> 2) Iam using Example2.pde has void setup() { size(200,200); background(125); fill(255); } void rectangle(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2) { rect(x1, y1, x2, y2); } My Example2.html has var processingInstance; processingInstance.rectangle(30, 20, 55, 55); but this is not working. How to pass these parameters dynamically from html.
