I need to get the difference of 2 signed integers. Is there an ABS() function in x86 assembly language so I can do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am in my semester vacation and i am looking to spend some time in learning how to develop Android application since this market is on fire these days, i have a background with programming and would like you to suggest ways or even sites that use baby steps tutorials to get an idea ( and hopefully ) create android application.
Any suggestions would be great since i spend the last 2 days searching the web without finding what i am looking for thanks.
I'm looking for a proper C# immutable dictionary, with fast update methods (that create a partial copy of the dictionary with slight changes). I've implemented one myself, using zippers to update a red-black tree, but it's not particularly fast.
By 'immutable dictionary' I don't just mean readonly or const. I want something that has reasonably fast 'With' and 'Without', or equivalent, methods that return a thing with slight modifications without modifying the original.
An example from another language is map in Scala
I'm almost ready to use Magento (which is built upon Zend Framework, which i know) and i'm looking for a good book covering setup, config, best practices, creating templates, development, etc.
Do you have any to recommend ?
I found some which look insteresting :
The Definitive Guide to Magento
Pro Magento Developer's Guide
Php Architect's Guide to E-commerce Programming With Magento
Any feedbacks on those one ?
basically i have read some samples, but all are self contained in one servlet.
such as: use doGet to establish the long polling connection, and then use doPost to trigger the event to notify all suspended connections.
Here is my question: I have other web actions programming in spring mvc, in the spring mvc controller a user post a message via /message/post, how can I make this action to trigger the atmosphere handler to notify the suspended connections?
I have taken the idea of "language maintenance" a niche that no one is paying attention to and created a company focused on live conversation with complimentary tools. Looking to create a web 2.0 style social network with an already clearly defined brand identity, design and plan. Already have assembled a team but am looking for a passionate programmer to take the technical lead and create a functional alpha and beta.
Im using Native SQL from ABAP language. The query to get data is something like this
SELECT COUNT(ROWID)
FROM <SCHEMANAME>.<TABLENAME>;@<DATABASENAME>
INTO :localvariable
I want to somehow set the schemaname and database name as default so that i do not need to use them in the SELECTs later. Then i can only use the table name in the SELECT.
thanks !!
there is a quote from Algorithms for Java (sedgwick 2003) p. 135:
"we commonly use driver programs when developing or debugging adt iplementations"
what is meant by driver program?
google just gives me loads of info about programming drivers, clearly not related
I would like to load TinyOS on CC2420 radio motes to operate on certain communication protocols (e.g. epidemic routing, probabilistic routing, etc.). However, I have no prior experience in programming motes to perform the protocols I want. I'm just wondering about the most applicable resources for reference and how difficult (if not impossible) was implementing such mentioned protocols. It would be great to hear from you. Thanks in advance!
I'm currently making a widget to take and display items from a feed. I have this working for the most part, but for some reason the data within the tag within the item comes back as empty, but I get the data in the and tags no problem.
feed is and xmlhttp.responseXML object.
var items = feed.getElementsByTagName("item");
for (var i=0; i<10; i++){
container = document.getElementById('list');
new_element = document.createElement('li');
title = items[i].getElementsByTagName("title")[0].firstChild.nodeValue;
link = items[i].getElementsByTagName("link")[0].firstChild.nodeValue;
alert(items[i].getElementsByTagName("description")[0].firstChild.nodeValue);
new_element.innerHTML = "<a href=\""+link+"\">"+title+"</a> ";
container.insertBefore(new_element, container.firstChild);
}
I have no idea why it wouldn't be working for the tag and would be for the other tags.

I have some projects in a solution that are running on .net 3.5 SP1 (and can never ever be updated to 4.0 as they are SharePoint projects).
When I try to create a new Visual C# Test Project in VS2010 Premium, I have to choose .net 4.0 which is apparently intended.
Now I don't care about what my Unit Test project is (don't have to care about VS2008 users), but I do care if I can safely test 3.5 Projects in it due to the different CLRs and slight C# language differences?
Hi,
I would like to know if you have any good books that teach C++ programming without repeating basic stuff. In fact, I already well know Java and C#. I also have a basic knowledge in C and assembly, so I understand a little bit pointer arithmetic, manual memory management and heap based allocation. I was looking at O'Reilly's C++ in a Nutshell and was also wondering if this book would be a good choice.
Thank you
Hi is there a free avaible translation backend with database avaible which can handle multiple users(no login needed), multiple languages (UTF-8) and provides automatic google translation?
I just need this tool to fill a database (preferable mysql) with simple tables like this:
language | label | text
english | _helloworld | Hello World!
german | _helloworld | Hallo Welt!
I don't care about export since this will have to be created anyways..
Thanks it would be a real timesaver if something with an usable UI exists already.
How does Google Toolbar determine the language of a page to offer translation from it?
Google is mis-identifiying a simple login page on our site as Filipino and offering to translate it into English. I've tried added a lang="en" attribute to the <html> element of the page, but that seems to have made no difference.
Anyone know why this is happening?
Hi, I just about to learn Java programming. I already have jdk on my computer. Then, I found this Netbeans is quite popular and come with all I needs. My question is, will there be any conflict if I install full version of Netbeans while I already have jdk installed on same machine(windows vista)?
I will appreciate your answers and advices, thanks.
Hi,
I am trying to make an arcade machine. The user will purchase credits, which will allow him to play for X minutes. I want to write "9:42 minutes left" at the left corner of the screen, even if he's playing a full screen game (UrbanTerror, for example).
I would really like if I could do this with Ruby, but any other language is OK. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
C++ is my first language, and as such I'm used to whitespace being ignored. However, I've been toying around with Python, and I don't find it too hard to get used to the whitespace rules. It seems, however, that a lot of programmers on the Internet can't get past the whitespace rules. From what I've seen, peoples' C++ programs tend to be formatted very consistently with respect to whitespace (or else it's pretty hard to read), so why do some people have such a problem with whitespace-based languages like Python?
I'm completely new to programming and I'm trying to build an autorespoder to send a msg to a specific email address.
Using an if statement, I can check if there is an email from a certain address in the inbox and I can send an email, but if there are multiple emails from that address, how can I make a for loop to send an email for every email from that specific address.
I tried to do use this as a loop:
for M.search(None, 'From', address) in M.select():
but I get the error: "can't assign to function call" on that line
This is not a programming question but more of an operating system question
Right now I'm trying to learn what exactly Double paging means.
I see two different terms, double paging on disk and double paging in memory.
Apparently this problem arises when we introduce a buffer cache to store disk blocks when doing File I/O
But I'm not really sure what exactly this term means. If anybody could specify it would be very helpful.
In The Unix Programming Environment by K & P, it is written that
" The programs in a pipeline actually run at the same time, not one after another.
This means that programs in a pipeline can be interactive;"
How can programs run at same time?
For ex: $ who | grep mary | wc -l
How grep mary will be executed until who is run or how wc -l will be executed until it
knows results of previous programs?
I"m unsure about this. Would having PHP ( or I guess any template language like Django's or Mako or whatever ) inside an html file prevent me from making changes to it with XPath?
I'm very new to XPath. I would think that you could not, but as I said, I'm unsure.
According to "Programming in scala" a sealed class cannot have any new subclasses added except the ones in the same ?le.
In the same book was described a way to enumerate classes that can extend class or trait in multiple files. I have forgotten it and can't find again.
Remind it to me, please.
Hey Guys.
I will like to see if everybody could share any good training sources on OOP on PHP language.
Good Training Sources for OOP (Object Oriented Programming) PHP, anyone ?
I've seen numerous tutorials, mostly superficial, some of them bad.
Please share anything good either commercial or free, Video or Written.
Whenever I've come up with a new idea of something interesting to code, it has always been the "Eureka!" moment type deal. How do you come up with great programming ideas, and if you are having trouble coming up with something, how do you get past that block?
