  • Downloading mp3 files in java on Android

    - by drozzy
What is the best way to download an mp3 file in java (on Android sdk)? http://developer.android.com/reference/java/net/package-summary.html Should I be using sockets? If so - what kind of "Stream" reader should I use? I have also read something about "intents" - is this something that is applicable here? I am also curious as to what should one do if connection gets interrupted - can I resume the download somehow or restart it? Any tips?

  • How do I disable system pop-ups in Windows CE 6?

    - by Ben Schoepke
What do I have to do to disable all system pop-ups in WinCE 6 R2? I read Mike Hall's post about Kiosk mode [1] but that's not going to work for us because we still want the standard graphical Explorer shell. We plan on hiding the taskbar and start menu and clearing icons off the desktop but need an easy way to make sure that no pop-ups of any type will ever show up on top of our app. Thanks, Ben http://blogs.msdn.com/mikehall/archive/2007/06/01/kiosk-mode-for-ce-6-0.aspx

  • HTTPS intercept

    - by Adrian
I don't know much about SSL, but I've read something and I was wondering if it's possible to intercept the communication between client and server (for example, a company can monitor employees data transfer?). I thought it was a difficult task, but it looks like that it is very simple. When a client requests a https connection the router can be instructed to intercept the key exchange and send to the server and the client it's own public keys (further it can encode/decode the hole traffic). Is it true, or I'm misunderstanding something?

  • Processing: popen() call to start subprocess?

    - by Mark Harrison
Here's an example of opening and reading data from a TCP socket. Is there a a popen() call or equivalent that can start a child process and read its output? void setup() { c = new Client(this, "127.0.0.1", 12345); // Replace with your server's IP and port } void draw() { if (c.available() > 0) { input = c.readString(); http://www.processing.org/learning/libraries/sharedcanvasclient.html

  • How to remove contrast from recaptcha?

    - by carl-lopez
I know the idea is to make the text somehow hard to read for the users but still they complain and I've seen how the control used here in stackoverflow doesn't have the dark circles contrasting with the text in recaptcha. How can I replicate this? Thanks.

  • Managed code (C#) vs Matlabs and C++ for speed

    - by dotnetdev
Hi, I am about to start developing an edge detection system (once I've read through a couple of books, which I'm doing so at good speed), but one thing I am wondering is the speed of an app like Matlabs (which can compile code to C++) vs AFORGE.NET for edge detecton. Is unmanaged code generally faster? Thanks

  • Variable assignment in bash

    - by Werner
Hi, this is probably a very stupid question; in a bash script, given the output of, for instance; awk '{print $7}' temp it gives 0.54546 I would like to give this to a variable, so I tried: read ENE <<< $(awk '{print $7}' temp) but I get Syntax error: redirection unexpected Could you tell me why, and what is the easiest way to do this assignment? Thanks

  • Automatically open files given as command line arguments in Python

    - by mk
I have a lot of Perl scripts that looks something like the following. What it does is that it will automatically open any file given as a command line argument and in this case print the content of that file. If no file is given it will instead read from standard input. while ( <> ) { print $_; } Is there a way to do something similar in Python without having to explicitly open each file?

  • How can I modify my classes to use it's collections in WPF TreeView

    - by Victor
    Hello, i'am trying to modify my objects to make hierarchical collection model. I need help. My objects are Good and GoodCategory: public class Good { int _ID; int _GoodCategory; string _GoodtName; public int ID { get { return _ID; } } public int GoodCategory { get { return _GoodCategory; } set { _GoodCategory = value; } } public string GoodName { get { return _GoodName; } set { _GoodName = value; } } public Good(IDataRecord record) { _ID = (int)record["ID"]; _GoodtCategory = (int)record["GoodCategory"]; } } public class GoodCategory { int _ID; string _CategoryName; public int ID { get { return _ID; } } public string CategoryName { get { return _CategoryName; } set { _CategoryName = value; } } public GoodCategory(IDataRecord record) { _ID = (int)record["ID"]; _CategoryName = (string)record["CategoryName"]; } } And I have two Collections of these objects: public class GoodsList : ObservableCollection<Good> { public GoodsList() { string goodQuery = @"SELECT `ID`, `ProductCategory`, `ProductName`, `ProductFullName` FROM `products`;"; using (MySqlConnection conn = ConnectToDatabase.OpenDatabase()) { if (conn != null) { MySqlCommand cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = productQuery; MySqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); while (rdr.Read()) { Add(new Good(rdr)); } } } } } public class GoodCategoryList : ObservableCollection<GoodCategory> { public GoodCategoryList () { string goodQuery = @"SELECT `ID`, `CategoryName` FROM `product_categoryes`;"; using (MySqlConnection conn = ConnectToDatabase.OpenDatabase()) { if (conn != null) { MySqlCommand cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = productQuery; MySqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); while (rdr.Read()) { Add(new GoodCategory(rdr)); } } } } } So I have two collections which takes data from the database. But I want to use thats collections in the WPF TreeView with HierarchicalDataTemplate. I saw many post's with examples of Hierarlichal Objects, but I steel don't know how to make my objects hierarchicaly. Please help.

  • C# event handlers not thread safe?

    - by Daniel
So i've read around that instead of calling a event directly with if (SomeEvent != null) SomeEvent(this, null); i should be doing SomeEventHandler temp = SomeEvent; if (temp != null) temp(this, null); Why is this so? How does the second version become thread safe? What is the best practice?

  • How to decide on what hardware to deploy web application

    - by Yuval A
Suppose you have a web application, no specific stack (Java/.NET/LAMP/Django/Rails, all good). How would you decide on which hardware to deploy it? What rules of thumb exist when determining how many machines you need? How would you formulate parameters such as concurrent users, simultaneous connections and DB read/write ratio to a decision on how much, and which, hardware you need? Any resources on this issue would be very helpful...

  • Terminology: opposite of "zero copy"?

    - by Mark Harrison
We're benchmarking some code that we've converted to use sendfile(), the linux zero-copy system call. What's the term for the traditional read()/write() loop that sendfile() replaces? I.e., in our report I want to say "zerocopy is X millisecs, and ??? is Y millisecs." What word/phrase should I use?

  • What sql server isolation level should I choose to prevent concurrent reads?

    - by Brian Bolton
I have the following transaction: SQL inserts a 1 new record into a table called tbl_document SQL deletes all records matching a criteria in another table called tbl_attachment SQL inserts multiple records into the tbl_attachment Until this transaction finishes, I don't want others users to be aware of the (1) new records in tbl_document, (2) deleted records in tbl_attachment, and (3) modified records in tbl_attachment. Would Read Committed Isolation be the correct isolation level?

  • How do I redirect example.com to example.com/subdirectory?

    - by Frode
Hey, I’m trying to redirect example.com (and example.com/, www.example.com and www.example.com/) to example.com/subdirectory. I could do this easily using HTML but from what I read, it’s better to make a 301 redirect using Apache. However, I’m having a hard time finding documentation on how to do this.

  • Best way to run remote VBScript in ASP.net? WMI or PsExec?

    - by envinyater
I am doing some research to find out the best and most efficient method for this. I will need to execute remote scripts on a number of Window Servers/Computers (while we are building them). I have a web application that is going to automate this task, I currently have my prototype working to use PsExec to execute remote scripts. This requires PsExec to be installed on the system. A colleague suggested I should use WMI for this. I did some research in WMI and I couldn't find what I'm looking for. I want to either upload the script to the server and execute it and read the results, or already have the script on the server and execute it and read the results. I would prefer the first option though! Which is more ideal, PsExec or WMI? For reference, this is my prototype PsExec code. This script is only executing a small script to get the Windows OS and Service Pack Info. Protected Sub windowsScript(ByVal COMPUTERNAME As String) ' Create an array to store VBScript results Dim winVariables(2) As String nameLabel.Text = Name.Text ' Use PsExec to execute remote scripts Dim Proc As New System.Diagnostics.Process ' Run PsExec locally Proc.StartInfo = New ProcessStartInfo("C:\Windows\psexec.exe") ' Pass in following arguments to PsExec Proc.StartInfo.Arguments = COMPUTERNAME & " -s cmd /C c:\systemInfo.vbs" Proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = True Proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True Proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False Proc.Start() ' Pause for script to run System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1500) Proc.Close() System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(2500) 'Allows the system a chance to finish with the process. Dim filePath As String = COMPUTERNAME & "\TTO\somefile.txt" 'Download file created by script on Remote system to local system My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile(filePath, "C:\somefile.txt") System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000) ' Pause so file gets downloaded ''Import data from text file into variables textRead("C:\somefile.txt", winVariables) WindowsOSLbl.Text = winVariables(0).ToString() SvcPckLbl.Text = winVariables(1).ToString() System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000) ' ''Delete the file on server - we don't need it anymore Dim Proc2 As New System.Diagnostics.Process Proc2.StartInfo = New ProcessStartInfo("C:\Windows\psexec.exe") Proc2.StartInfo.Arguments = COMPUTERNAME & " -s cmd /C del c:\somefile.txt" Proc2.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = True Proc2.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True Proc2.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False Proc2.Start() System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(500) Proc2.Close() ' Delete file locally File.Delete("C:\somefile.txt") End Sub
