  • Turning a spreadsheet into array and loop and call a function

    This is related to generate groups in BuddyPress. I have a spreadsheet with (in this case) a group name, group description and slug. I need to grab the information from the file, turn it into an array, then loop through it and call groups_create_group() every time. I can find that function in bp-groups.php (http://www.nomorepasting.com/getpaste.php?pasteid=35217). It tells me all the parameters you need to fill in. I'm quite new to this and looking for how I can do this. Do you know how I can grab this information and turn it into an array? An loop it through and call groups_create_group() every time?

  • Scheduling jobs from a web environment on Linux

    Hi. I am developing an application in PHP on Linux/Apache. I want to be able to schedule PHP jobs (scripts) for execution at some specific time in the future from within the application. I know that many people will recommend cron and at, but first of all I don't need recurrence (cron) and secondly and most importantly, I need the solution to be able to scale. At was not designed with race condititions in mind, and if two users try to add a job at the same time one or both may fail. It's also important that jobs are executed at their specified time, and not just 'polled' once per minute or so. Can anyone please suggest solutions for this task? Thank you.

  • phpunit - generate tests for all the classes from a directory

    Hi! I have a directoy structure, and all the classes of the business logic are placed in the app_dir/lib/ directory. I would like to generate unit tests for all the classes from this lib/ folder. The problem is, that I haven't found any option to specify the source directory, only the source file: from app_dir: phpunit --skeleton-class lib/ Error: "lib/.php" could not be opened. Is it the only solution to write my own php script, which iterates through the /lib folder and calls the skeleton generator for every file found? And how can I specify the output folder, where all the generated test files are placed? Thanx, Joe

    I know MD5's safety is under question lately and this is the reason a lot of people are using salt (I dont understand this at all btw) but I was wondering if you wanted to easily implement a safe system in php can you just md5 something twice? like test 098f6bcd4621d373cade4e832627b4f6 fb469d7ef430b0baf0cab6c436e70375 So basically: $val = 'test'; $val = md5($val); $val = md5($val); Would that solve the whole rainbow security stuff? Is there an easy/noob proof way of making secure database passwords in php?

  • Send JSON object via GET and POST without having to wrapping it in another object literal, and manag

    My site does some short ajax call in JSON format, using jQuery. At client-side i'd like to send object just passing it in ajax function, without being forced to wrap it in an object literal like this: {'person' : person}. For the same reasons, at server-side i'd like to manage objects without the binding of $_GET['person'] or $_POST['person']. For example: var person = { 'name' : 'John', 'lastName' : 'Doe', 'age' : 32, 'married' : true } sendAjaxRequest(person); in php, using: $person = json_decode(file_get_contents("php://input")); i can get easily the object, but only with POST format, not in GET. Any suggestions?

The following is the textarea of the web form I created to allow me to update twitter. <textarea name="updatestatus" cols="50" rows="4" id="updatestatus"> </textarea> Do I change this line in my confirm.php script from $status = 'Testing API'; To this $status=$_POST["updatestatus"]; I am wanting to know if I at least got that right so I can look at other possible problems with this form not being able to update twitter. As it stands now I am manually editing the status each time and it works that way perfectly but have not yet figured out how to get a webform to do this.

  • How can I generate XML application configuration using Zend_Tool?

    When creating a new project using zf create project myproject it will create a default project layout with an application.ini in the configs folder. Where can I change these default settings so that it generates (and uses) an XML file (application.xml)? I've looked at the documentation for Zend_Tool (http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/zend.tool.html), but there seems to be no information on how to do this. And suppose you'd like to use a different default folder layout (ie. use htdocs instead of public as your document root), is there a way to specify this as well? Any pointers to relevant information (btw I've looked at the Quickstart, nothing relevant is mentioned there unless I'm overlooking it)? edit I already tried creating a profile (stored in .zf/project/profiles), and used that to create a project (using zf create project myproject myprofile) but that doesn't change anything, even though the .zfproject.xml file in the root of the new project does contain the <applicationConfigFile type="xml"/> setting...     I have to read the content from HTML file and then the parameters for different heading should be entered into the form in php and then i need to save the page and submit it so that it will be saved in the databse. I need to automate this whole process since i have approx 2000 HTML files which should be read and should be entered in a form in PHP. Do you have any idea about any tool which can help in this process. small idea will be also helpful.   • How to structure web application with part of it being secured (SSL)

    What is the common pattern to structure web application where part of it has to be secured. So lets say I have page_a and page_b which do not need to be secured, although should display login information (login fields or login details once user logged in). This web app. also would have secured pages (admin, checkout or similar) secure_page_c and secure_page_d. My questions are: What is the common folder structure for such assuming I code in php with no frameworks? Also how shall I deal with session variables in case user navigates lets say from secure_page_b to non secure page_a or vice versa?     I have some user-submitted variables that I want to display in a different part of my site like this: <div class="pre_box">Term: </div> <div class="entry"><?php $key='term'; echo get_post_meta($post->ID, $key, true); ?></div> Occasionally, these variables might be empty in which case I don't want to display the label for the empty variable. In the example above I would want to hide the <div class="pre_box">Term: </div> part. Is there some simple way to check if a php variable like the one above is empty and prevent the label from being displayed?

But HOW in the world do I create a .po-file? I downloaded POEdit but I can't see how to make this happen with that software. ANy help is greatly appreciated!

  • Suggestions for performance improvement surrounding sending email notifications?

    It takes around a couple of seconds for my app to execute the code to send an email right now on a test server with nothing much else running. Not sure if this is typical/expected. I'm also using the php framework Kohana's email helper and not php's mail directly out of convenience if that matters. Is it always just better to schedule a cron job to send emails every 5 min or so? Or should I be able to send emails immediately and I'm just not doing something right? What the script does is insert a row into the db and notifies the relevant group that the row was created. The groups are usually < 20 people so I just do a loop calling Kohana's email helper each time for each member of the group.

    I just read about this design pattern: Lazy Load. And, since in the application i'm working on i have all the classes in one folder, i was wondering if this pattern could just make me avoiding the include() function for every class. I mean: It's nice to know that if i forgot to include a class, PHP, before falling into an error, trough an __autoload() function try to get it. But is it fine enough to just don't care about including classes and let PHP do it by your own every time? Or we should write __autoload() just in case it is needed?

  • How to make schema and code dynamic?

    I want to make my database schema and application code as dynamic as possible to handle "unknown" use cases and changes. Developing in PHP and MySQL. Twice now I have had to change my entire schema including table and column names and this means the developers have to go back to the application code and modify all the SQL queries and table/columns names. So to prevent this I want to if just like we do on pages where we have page content, title bar etc dynamic like a %variable%, can we do it for the schema and maybe even for the php code functions and classes somehow? It takes weeks to re-do all changes like this vs if it is dynamic it can be done in under a day.

  • Is it possible to disable the iPhone's automatic hyperlinks?

    We send out a notification email whenever we have "phishing" emails reported to us. In these emails, we include a copy-paste of the text inside the original phishing email as a sample of what is reported to us. Our code strips all hyperlinks out of the email via PHP, but still includes (in plain text) the link. When users receive this email in their client (Thunderbird, Outlook, Horde/IMP, etc), the hyperlink is removed. However, the iPhone likes to take web addresses in plain text and automatically turn them into hyperlinks. Is there any possible way to stop this action from happening via a HTML tag or by using PHP to replace certain parts of the hyperlink?

  • Open page in Joomla

    I'm using Jumi to echo php code and then showing that in a Joomla Article, and everythings working fine. Now I want to do this: The output is basically a list from a database like this: Name Price Type A 1 T1 B 2 T2 In this list I want to include links to only show items of the same type, so "T1" would like to a page only showing things of type T1. So I thought I would do this by making a new page that takes a type and then get all the items of that type from the database. Without Joomla this wouldv'e been a piece of cake, with Joomla I'm not quite sure where to begin. How should the a href=... tags in the html code printed by my php script look? Is my basic structure still correct, and if so, how do I make Joomla open the new page in the normal frame and not replace the whole Joomla page. some kind of target-frame attribute?

  • Is it safe to develop for older versions of Zend Framework?

    Our vendor-supported server's O/S only supports PHP 5.1.6, which limits us to ZF 1.6. The current version of Zend Framework requires a higher version of PHP. We're struggling to decide whether to adopt ZF because of this incompatibility. Is it feasible to develop (indefinitely) in these older versions of ZF or should we hold off? Features, security, bugs, etc. Is this a path we don't want to go down or are these older versions perfectly usable in a production environment?

  • Facebook Connect from Localhost, doing some weird stuff

    So maybe the documentation is out of date, or I am just off here. But I have done a slew of FB iframe apps (connect), but I am starting my first FB Connect site. Running it from localhost, and the Connect URL is http:// my_external_IP_address. When I click on the FB login button on my site, it pops up, says waiting for facebook, and it returns my site in that box, with the URL up top with the http:// mysite/?session={session key, user_id, etc.} The user_id is infact my FB id. And so it thinks I am logged in. If I close the popup, I'm not logged in. I'm not sure why the pop up isn't doing the normal fb connect dialog. I'm following these steps. (I added spaces to the http:// as to not be detected as 'spam') html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml" right after <body> <script src="http://static.ak.connect.facebook.com/js/api_lib/v0.4/FeatureLoader.js.php" type="text/javascript"> At the end, before the body close tag: script type="text/javascript"> FB.init("fbkey", "http://127.0.0.1/xd_receiver.htm"); I have tried using xd_receiver.htm, /xd_receiver.htm (and other combos), and that brings up a blank page. using the http://127.0.0.1 at least does something. In my config file, which is called before all of those, it checks for a PHP session key to see if they are logged in, if that doesn't exist it looks for a cookie, and if that doesn't exist it does this: require_once('includes/facebook.php'); $facebook = new Facebook($fbkey, $fbsec); $user_id = $facebook->get_loggedin_user(); if($user_id > 0){ $user = $ac->getUserFromFB($user_id); $_SESSION['user_id'] = $user['user_id']; } The user_id is always empty when I echo it out to the screen to test. The session event never occurs as well. So I don't know what it is doing in the popup, but I think Facebook thinks it is logging me in. Not sure. Pretty stumped on this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
