  I have a ListView control set up in details mode with 5 columns. Now I need to retrieve data from the ListView control in order to delete a booking in my database. I used the following code to retrieve the content of each column: ManageList.SelectedItems(0).Text But it only seems to work on index 0. If I do: ManageList.SelectedItems(3).Text I get this error: InvalidArgument=Value of '3' is not valid for 'index'. Parameter name: index I'm pretty much stumped, it seems logical to me that index 1 will point to the 2nd column, index 2 to the 3rd etc, as it's 0 based? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  How can I make this function more efficient. It's currently running at 6 - 45 seconds. I've ran dotTrace profiler on this specific method, and it's total time is anywhere between 6,000ms to 45,000ms.   When retrieving a hierarchical structure from MySQL (table with one ID column and one PARENT column signifying the hierarchical relationships), I map the result into an enumerated array as follows (for this example the numbers are arbitrary): Array ( [3] => Array ( [7] => Array () ), [7] => Array ( [8] => Array () ) ) Notice 3 is the parent of 7, and 7 is the parent of 8 (this could go on and on; and any parent could have multiple children). I wanted to shrink this array into a nested multidimensional array as follows: Array ( [3] => Array ( [7] => Array ( [8] => Array () ) ) ) That is, each NEW id is automatically assigned an empty array. Regardless, any ID's children will be pushed into their parent's array. Take a look at the following illustration for further clarification: This will probably result in a complicated recursive operation, since I always have to check whether a parent with any certain ID already exists (and if so, push the value into its array). Is there a built-in php function that can assist me with this? Do you have any idea as to how to go about constructing this? For what it's worth I'm using this to built a navigation bar in wordpress (which can contain categories, subcategories, posts... essentially anything).

• Is there a Scala version of .irbrc or another way to define some default libraries for REPL use?

  I've written a little library that uses implicits to add functionality that one only needs when using the REPL in Scala. Ruby has libraries like this - for things like pretty printing, firing up text editors (like the interactive_editor gem which invokes Vim from irb - see this post), debuggers and the like. The library I am trying to write adds some methods to java.lang.Class and java.lang.reflect classes using the 'pimp my library' implicit conversion process to help you go and find documentation (initially, with Google, then later possibly with a JavaDoc/ScalaDoc viewer, and maybe the StackOverflow API eventually!). It's an itch-scratching library: I spend so much time copying and pasting classnames into Google that I figured I may as well automate the process. It is the sort of functionality that developers will want to add to their system for use only in the REPL - they shouldn't really be adding it to projects (partly because it may not be something that their fellow developers want, but also because if you are doing some exploratory development, it may be with just a Scala REPL that's not being invoked by an IDE or build tool). In my case, I want to include a few classes and set up some implicits - include a .jar on the CLASSPATH and import it, basically. In Ruby, this is the sort of thing that you'd add to your .irbrc file. Other REPLs have similar ways of setting options and importing libraries. Is there a similar file or way of doing this for the Scala REPL?

  I'm learning WPF and would like to have a collection similar to a LinkedList, to where I can add and remove strings. And I want to have a ListView that listen to that collection with databinding.   This seems like the model binding is causing me issues. Essentially I have a model called ProductOption and for the purpose of this question it has 2 fields ID (Int) PK ProductID (Int) FK I have a standard route set-up context.MapRoute( "Product_default", "Product/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Product", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); and if the user wants to add an option the URL is, /Product/Options/Add/1 in the above URL 1 is the ProductID, I have the following code to return a blank model the the view, [HttpGet] public ActionResult Add(int id) { return View("Manage", new ProductOptionModel() { ProductID = id }); } Now in my view I keep a hidden field <%= Html.HiddenFor(x=>x.ID) %> This is used to determine (on submit) if we are editing or adding a new option. However the Model binder in .net seems to replace .ID (Which was 0 when leaving the above get actionresult) with 1 (or the value of the id parameter in the URL) How can I stop or work around this? • How do I stop js files being cached in IE?

  Hello stackers! I've created a page that uses the CKEditor javascript rich edit control. It's a pretty neat control, especially seeing as it's free, but I'm having serious issues with the way it allows you to add templates. To add a template you need to modify the templates js file in the CKEditor templates folder. The documentation page describing it is here. This works fine until I want to update a template or add a new one (or anything else that requires me to modify the js file). Internet Explorer caches the js file and doesn't pick up the update. Emptying the cache allows the update to be picked up, but this isn't an acceptable solution. Whenever I update a template I do not want to tell all of the users across the organisation to empty their IE cache. There must be a better way! Is there a way to stop IE caching the js file? Or is there another solution to this problem?

When I hit root/product/show/1 I get the following error: ../jsp/product/show/1.jsp" not found how do I tell this method to use the show.jsp view ? If I don't add the RequestMapping on class level my show method will be mapped to root/show instead of root/owner/show how do I solve this ? I'd like to avoid using the class level RequestMapping.

• How do I make this nested for loop, testing sums of cubes, more efficient?

  I'm trying to iterate through all the combinations of pairs of positive long integers in Java and testing the sum of their cubes to discover if it's a Fibonacci number. I'm currently doing this by using the value of the outer loop variable as the inner loop's upper limit, with the effect being that the outer loop runs a little slower each time. Initially it appeared to run very quickly--I was up to 10 digits within minutes. But now after 2 full days of continuous execution, I'm only somewhere in the middle range of 15 digits. At this rate it may end up taking a whole year just to finish running this program.   I'm trying to pick up Python. As part of the learning process I'm porting a project I wrote in Java to Python. I'm at a section now where I have a list of CSV headers of the form: headers = [a, b, c, d, e, .....] and separate lists of groups that these headers should be broken up into, e.g.: headers_for_list_a = [b, c, e, ...] headers_for_list_b = [a, d, k, ...] . . . I want to take the CSV data and turn it into dict's based on these groups, e.g.: list_a = [ {b:val_1b, c:val_1c, e:val_1e, ... }, {b:val_2b, c:val_2c, e:val_2e, ... }, {b:val_3b, c:val_3c, e:val_3e, ... }, . . . ] where for example, val_1b is the first row of the 'b' column, val_3c is the third row of the 'c' column, etc. My first "Java instinct" is to do something like: for row in data: for col_num, val in enumerate(row): col_name = headers[col_num] if col_name in group_a: dict_a[col_name] = val elif headers[col_cum] in group_b: dict_b[col_name] = val ... list_a.append(dict_a) list_b.append(dict_b) ... However, this method seems inefficient/unwieldy and doesn't posses the elegance that Python programmers are constantly talking about. Is there a more "Zen-like" way I should try- keeping with the philosophy of Python?

But it merely an array and not an object. On the other hand $this->Site is a Site object, but it has not been populated with the column data from the site table like $this->data. What is the proper way to have CakePHP get the associated model as the object and containing the data? Or am I going about this all wrong? Thanks!

  I have a student and faculty table. The primary key for student is studendID (SID) and faculty's primary key is facultyID, naturally. Student has an advisor column and a requested advisor column, which are foreign key to faculty. That's simple enough, right? However, now I have to throw in dates. I want to be able to view who their advisor was for a certain quarter (such as 2009 Winter) and who they had requested. The result will be a table like this: Year | Term | SID | Current | Requested ------------------------------------------------ 2009 | Winter | 860123456 | 1 | NULL 2009 | Winter | 860445566 | 3 | NULL 2009 | Winter | 860369147 | 5 | 1 And then if I feel like it, I could also go ahead and view a different year and a different term. I am not sure how these new table(s) will look like. Will there be a year table with three columns that are Fall, Spring and Winter? And what will the Fall, Spring, Winter table have? I am new to the art of tables, so this is baffling me... Also, I feel I should clarify how the site works so far now. Admin can approve student requests, and what happens is that the student's current advisor gets overwritten with their request. However, I think I should not do that anymore, right?

  I need to convert a list of numbers that fall within certain ranges into a list of values, ordered by a priority column. The ranges within one year will never overlap. The input will be a year and a list of numbers that might fall within one these ranges. The list of input number will be small, 1 to 10 numbers. Example of input numbers: (20000, 240004, 375000, 255000) With that input I would like to get a list ordered by the priority column, or a single value: 82 50 52 The only value I'm interested in here is 82, so UNIQUE and MAX_RESULTS=1 would do. It can easily be done with one query per number, and then sorting it in the Java code, but I would prefer to do it in a single SQL query. What SQL query, to be run in an Oracle database, would give me the desired result?

• Does Hibernate support one-to-one associations as pkeys?

  Hi all, Can anyone tell me whether Hibernate supports associations as the pkey of an entity? I thought that this would be supported but I am having a lot of trouble getting any kind of mapping that represents this to work. In particular, with the straight mapping below: @Entity public class EntityBar { @Id @OneToOne(optional = false, mappedBy = "bar") EntityFoo foo // other stuff } I get an org.hibernate.MappingException: "Could not determine type for: EntityFoo, at table: ENTITY_BAR, for columns: [org.hibernate.mapping.Column(foo)]" Diving into the code it seems the ID is always considered a Value type; i.e. "anything that is persisted by value, instead of by reference. It is essentially a Hibernate Type, together with zero or more columns." I could make my EntityFoo a value type by declaring it serializable, but I wouldn't expect this would lead to the right outcome either. I would have thought that Hibernate would consider the type of the column to be integer (or whatever the actual type of the parent's ID is), just like it would with a normal one-to-one link, but this doesn't appear to kick in when I also declare it an ID. Am I going beyond what is possible by trying to combine @OneToOne with @Id? And if so, how could one model this relationship sensibly?

  Im makeing a simple registration application and I have an assignment to learn more about lists. I have an assignment that says that i am to create a class called Persons and in that class set the values from the text fields in variables and add this to a list of type Person. So far: in the Person class: string strSocialSecurityNumber = string.Empty;//---( This will not be used now.) string strFirstName = string.Empty; string strLastName = string.Empty; string strFullName = string.Empty; string strAge = string.Empty; string strAll = string.Empty; int intAge = 0; List<Person> lstPerson = new List<Person>(); public void SetValues(string FirstName, string LastName, int Age) { strFirstName = FirstName; strLastName = LastName; strFullName = strFirstName + " " + strLastName; intAge = Age; strAge = Convert.ToString(intAge); strAll = strAge + " " + strFullName; } public List<Person> Person() { lstPerson.Add(strAll); return lstPerson; } Error message: "can not convert from string to Person" The assignment says that the list is to be of the type Person so i am suppose to add strings to it and ive looked how to do this but I dont know how. I have seen that there are options like "ConvertAll" But im not sure if I am allowed to use it since the list should be of type Person. Thank you!

• Group panel of WPF ListBox

  I have a listbox that is grouping the items with a GroupStyle. I would like add a control at the bottom of the stackpanel that holds all of the groups. This additional control needs to be part of the scrolling content so that the user would scroll to the bottom of the list to see the control. If I were using a listbox without the groups, this task would be easy by modifying the ListBox template. However, with the items grouped, the ListBox template seems to only apply on a per group basis. • Ideas in implenting the following entry form in ASP.NET MVC 2

  Hi guys, I have a very simple data entry form to implement. It looks like this: Obviously I have mocked out the actual requirements but the essence is similar. Entering a name and clicking history should bring up a pop up pointing to the url '/student/viewhistory/{name}' Name and age are required fields The sub form (in the mockup) with Class (a drop down, containing the numbers 1 - 10) and Subject (containing A - D, say) form a unique pair of values for which a score is required. So, selecting the Class and Subject, entering a score and clicking on Add should 'add' this record for the student. Then the user should be able to click Save (to persist the entry to the database) or be able to add further (class, subject, score) pairs to the entry. Any ideas how to smartly implement this? (I am coming from a DWH field... so thinking in a stateless manner is slightly foreign to me.) Any help is appreciated. I would imagine a smart use of jQuery would give a easy solution. • Displaying rectangles in game window with XNA

  I want to divide my game grid into an array of rectangles. Each rectangle is 40x40 and there are 14 rectangles in every column, with a total of 25 columns. This covers a game area of 560x1000. This is the code I have set up to make the first column of rectangles on the game grid: Rectangle[] gameTiles = new Rectangle[15]; for (int i = 0; i <= 15; i++) { gameTiles[i] = new Rectangle(0, i * 40, 40, 40); } I'm pretty sure this works, but of course I cannot confirm it because rectangles do not render on the screen for me to physically see them. What I would like to do for debugging purposes is to render a border, or fill the rectangle with color so I can see it on the game itself, just to make sure this works. Is there a way to make this happen? Or any relatively simple way I can just make sure that this works? Thank you very much.

• ASP.NET MVC 2 user input to SQL 2008 Database problems

  After my publish in VS2010 the entire website loads and pulls data from the database perfectly. I can even create new users through the site with the correct key code, given out to who needs access. I have two connection strings in my web.config file The first: <add xdt:Transform="SetAttributes" xdt:Locator="Match(name)" name="EveModelContainer" connectionString="metadata=res://*/Models.EdmModel.EveModel.csdl|res://*/Models.EdmModel.EveModel.ssdl|res://*/Models.EdmModel.EveModel.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string=&quot;Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=fleet;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=fleet;Password=****&quot;" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" /> The second: <add xdt:Transform="SetAttributes" xdt:Locator="Match(name)" name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=fleet;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=fleet;Password=****;MultipleActiveResultSets=True" /> The first one is the one that is needed to post data with the main application, EveModelContainer. Everything else is pulled using the standard ApplicationServices connection. Do you see anything wrong with my connectionstring? I'm at a complete loss here. The site works perfectly on my friends server and not on mine... Could it be a provider issue? And if I go to iis 7's manager console, and click .net users I get a pop up message saying the custom provider isn't a trusted provider do I want to allow it to run at a higher trust level. I'm at the point where I think its either my string or this trusted provider error... but I have no clue how to add to the trusted provider list... Thank you in advance!!!
