  I wrote a sql query to retrieve data as follows: SELECT (MAX (b.filledqty) - MAX (a.filledqty)) AS filledtoday FROM clientordermas a, clientordermas b WHERE a.clordid = 'w9110126' AND b.clordid = 'w9110126' AND (SELECT max(a.price) FROM clientordermas a WHERE a.clordid = 'w9110126') < 1000; There are three records in the table for the given clordid with price values 800, 900 1200. So, what I need is to get the difference between 1200 and 900 which is 300. But, the above statement always returns 0. What I should get is MAX (b.filledqty) retuns 1200 and MAX (a.filledqty) retuns 900. But it is not happening. This is not the exact problem I am facing but a simplified version of it. Can someone please help?

I'm need to write an stored procedure for SQL Server 2008 for performing some huge select query and I need filter it results with specifying filtering type via procedure's parameters (parameterize where clause).   I can not locate the correct method to make the first item in a combo box visible. The app starts with an empty combo box. The user makes a radio box selection then clicks Go! (how original). The combo box is loaded via an LDAP query. All this is working just fine. The problem is the combo box still appears to the user to be empty. They must click the arrow to see the options. How do I make the first option 'visible' after the users clicks Go!? I thought it would be simple... Thanks, Ed

  I'm looking at some code that uses the .NET System.Configuration.SettingsProvider and ApplicationSettingsBase to handle configuration. We have a class that derives from SettingsProvider that uses a database as the data store, and then we have other settings classes that inherit from ApplicationSettingsBase, and have the [SettingsProvider(typeof(MySettingsProvider))] attribute. The problem is that we're using these settings classes in multiple applications, but they seem to permanently cache the configuration values, the first time they are loaded. The issue is that if a setting is changed in one application, the other applications will not get the setting until the next restart, because they are cached everywhere. My question is: is there a way to force the SettingsProvider implementation, or the classes derived from ApplicationSettingsBase to not cache values, and re-query the datastore every time the setting is accessed? A valid answer might be that these classes were not intended to be used in multi-application environments...

  I am using MatLabs UDP function in their instrument control toolbox to send data packets from one computer to another. The first computer is constantly updating data values and sending them to the other computer, and I want that computer to be able to query the first one for the most recent values whenever it needs them. However, the default implementation of the UDP send and receive in MatLab is a FIFO structure- the first packet I send is the first the other computer receives when they execute the "fscanf" function. I want the last packet I sent to be the one the fscanf function returns. Is this possible or do I need to use a different protocol?

• problem with sql job and datetime parameter

  Another developer created a stored procedure that is set up to run as a sql job each month. It takes one parameter of datetime. When I try to invoke it in the job or in just a query window I get an error "Incorrect syntax near ')'" The call to execute it is... exec CreateHeardOfUsRecord getdate() When I give it a hard coded date like exec CreateHeardOfUsRecord '4/1/2010' it works fine. Any idea why I can't use getdate() in this context? Thanks.

  Hi. I'm currently looking for a way to search a big database (500MB - 10GB or more on 10 tables) with a lot of different fields(nvarchars and bigints). Many of the fields, that should be searched are not in the same table. An example: A search for '5124 Peter' should return all items, that ... have an ID with 5124 in it, have 'Peter' in the title or description have item type id with 5124 in it created by a user named 'peter' or a user whose id has 5124 in it created by a user with '5124' or 'peter' in his street address. How should i do the search? I read that the full-text search of MS-Sql is a lot more performant than a query with the LIKE keyword and i think the syntax is more clear, but i think it cant search on bigint(id) values and i read it has performance problems with indexing and therefore slows down inserts to the DB. In my project there will be more inserting than reading, so this could be a matter. Thanks in advance, Marks

  Hello all, The title might be a bit misleading, but I couldn't figure out a better title. I'm writing a simple search engine which will search on several sites for the specific domain. To be concrete: I'm writing a search engine for hardstyle livesets/aftermovies/tracks. To do I will search on the sites who provide livesets, tracks, and such. The problem here is speed, I need to pass the search query to 5-7 sites, get the results and then use my own algorithm to display the results in a sorted order. I could just "multithread" it, but it's easier said then done so I have a few questions. What would be the best solution to this problem? Should I just multithread/process this application, so I'm going to get a bit of speed-up? Are there any other solutions or I am doing something really wrong? Thanks, William van Doorn

Currently I am using the following SQL DECLARE @StartDate DATETIME DECLARE @EndDate DATETIME SET @StartDate = '2010-01-01' SET @EndDate = '2010-06-18 12:59:59 PM' SELECT * FROM table WHERE Date_Printed BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate I have an index on the Date_Printed column. I was wondering if this is the best way to get the rows in the table which lie between those date or if there is a faster way. The table has about 750,000 records in it right now and it will continue to grow. The query is pretty fast but I'd like to make it faster if possible.

  Quick question, does Kohana (version 3) automatically escape data that is passed into ORM::factory..... (and everywhere else that has to do with the database)? For example: $thread = ORM::factory('thread', $this->request->param('id')); Would the data passed in the second argument be auto-escaped before it goes in the SQL query or do I have to manually do it? Probably a stupid question and it's better to be safe than sorry, but yeah... I usually do manually escape the data, but I want to know if Kohana does this for me? Thanks

  Hi there guys I'm new to LINQ and I'm trying to check whether a TEXT column is null or empty (as String.IsNullOrEmpty). from c in ... ... select new { c.Id, HasBio = !String.IsNullOrEmpty(c.bio) } Trying to use the above query produces an SqlException: Argument data type text is invalid for argument 1 of len function. The SQL generated is similar to the following: CASE WHEN ( NOT (([Extent2].[bio] IS NULL) OR (( CAST(LEN([Extent2].[bio]) AS int)) = 0))) THEN cast(1 as bit) WHEN (([Extent2].[bio] IS NULL) OR (( CAST(LEN([Extent2].[bio]) AS int)) = 0)) THEN cast(0 as bit) END AS [C1] LEN is not applicable to TEXT columns. I know DATALENGTH should be used for them... How can I force LINQ to produce such thing? Or any other workaround to test if a text column is null or empty??? Thanks!

  I want to get the results of a left join between two tables, with both having a column of the same name, the column on which I join. The following query is seen as valid by the import/export wizard in SQL Server, but it always gives an error. I have some more conditions, so the size wouldn't be too much. We're using SQL Server 2000 iirc and since we're using an externally developed program to interact with the database (except for some information we can't retrieve that way), we can not simply change the column name. SELECT table1.*, table2.* FROM table1 LEFT JOIN table2 ON table1.samename = table2.samename At least, I think the column name is the problem, or am I doing something else wrong?

  I'm trying to find an xmlHttpRequest or similar resource that I can query directly to obtain an xml file for my own purposes. At this site it is possible to browse a Google Map mashup with markers. Unfortunately it is only possible to view all markers at a small view range, whereas I simply want to obtain all the information at once for the entire state. Using the firebug console in firefox I can enter the following javascript line to obtain the xml that I desire: document.getElementById("stationXML").value I tracked this document element down to an <input> tag, but I can't figure out how that input is set.   Hello, I am looking for a way to import a datatable from Access into an Excel variable and then run queries through this variable to speed up the process. I am trying to migrate from C# .NET where I read a data table from an access database into memory and then used LINQ to query this dataset. It is MUCH faster than how I have it currently coded in VBA where I must make lots of calls to the actual database, which is slow. I have seen the QueryTable mentioned, but it appears that this requires pasting the data into the excel sheet. I would like to keep everything in memory and minimize the interaction between the Excel Sheet and the VBA code as much as possible. I wish we didn't need to use Excel+VBA to do this, but we're kind of stuck with that for now. Thanks for the help!

• MySQLdb not INSERTING, _mysql does fine.

  Okay, I log onto the MySQL command-line client as root. I then open or otherwise run a python app using the MySQLdb module as root. When I check the results using python (IDLE), everything looks fine. When I use the MySQL command-line client, no INSERT has occurred. If I change things around to _mysql instead of MySQLdb, everything works fine. I'd appreciate any clarification(s).   SQL injection that actually runs a SQL command is one thing. But injecting data that doesn't actually run a harmful query but that might tell you something valuable about the database, is that considered SQL injection? Or is it just used as part to construct a valid SQL injection? An example could be set rs = conn.execute("select headline from pressReleases where categoryID = " & cdbl(request("id")) ) Passing this a string that could not be turned into a numeric value would cause Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'cdbl' which would tell you that the column in question only accepts numeric data and is thus probably of type integer or similar. I seem to find this in a lot of pages discussing SQL injection, but don't really get an answer if this in itself is considered SQL injection. The reason for my question is that I have a scanning tool that report a SQL injection vulnerability and reports a VBScript runtime error '800a000d' as the reason for the finding.

• Sharepoint Blog Category view - Pagination issue...

  Folks, I am facing a rather strange issue. In my Sharepoint Blog, I am not able to view more than 10 posts when I click on the Category filter page. The page only shows the latest 10 posts and when I click on the pagination for the next 10, it simply says that "There are no posts in this category." I tried searching online and some one had a solution to it too, but that is with the Query String (URL) Filter which is not available in MOSS2007 Standard edition... How can I get around this? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
