  • Why does "non exists" SQL query work and "not in" doesn't

    I spent some time trying to figure out why this query isn't pulling the results i expected: SELECT * FROM NGS WHERE ESPSSN NOT IN (SELECT SSN FROM CENSUS) finally i tried writing the query another way and this ended up getting the expected results: SELECT * FROM NGS n WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM CENSUS WHERE SSN = n.ESPSSN) The first query seems more appropriate and "correct". I use "in" and "not in" all the time for similar selects and have never had a problem that i know of.

    It seems that if you have many tables, you can only perform a MySQLDump without locking them all, otherwise you can an error. What are the side effects of performing a MySQLDump without locking all the tables; Is the DB snapshot I get this way, consistent? Do I have any other alternative for getting a backup of a MySQL DB with many tables?

  • Drupal site requires a higher memory limit after migration? Why?

    Hello. We have a website which had a previous memory limit of 12 MB (12 MB in php.ini, and 16 MB in settings.php) and worked previously. After moving to a new server it started giving memory limit errors and displaying half-blank screen. We increaded the limit in both files (php.ini and settings.php) and now it works, but I dont understand how is it possible that now it needs a considerably larger amount of memory (it used to work with 12 MB, now it cont work with less than 20 MB).

    I'd like to have the nested containers inherit that property, but when I set it in the outermost one I'm not sure if it's working. It either is working but I'm not getting the results I want, or maybe I'd have to set up a property somewhere for it to carry. Assuming that a) it is possible to do it and b) I'd have to change a property somewhere, would that have any side effects I should be aware of?

    In asp.net global.asax, where should i write code to assign role in httpcontext.user? What i have read in site is that it should be part of "Application_onPostauthentication" event of global.asax but i am not getting that if i write there then it is execute for each request of user. I think this should fetch one for one authentication at session. I don't know even why microsoft also suggest to write code there? Please if anybody know the fact make me clear?

    I want to write a custom ValidationAttribute that checks if the given value is unique or not. The problem is that in the edit screen, it is not guaranteed that the user actually changed the value, resulting in a false error. Is there a way to check in my attribute whether the value actually changed? Or can I trigger the attribute only when the value has changed? I'm getting the feeling this requirement maybe just doesn't belong in an attribute?

When I run it I am getting "is not a valid Win32 application" error in the web page as soon as I go to the first page. That page is a very simple "Hello World" page.     I need to match two cases by one reg expression and do replacement 'long.file.name.jpg' - 'long.file.name_suff.jpg' 'long.file.name_a.jpg' - 'long.file.name_suff.jpg' I'm trying to do the following re.sub('(\_a)?\.[^\.]*$' , '_suff.',"long.file.name.jpg") But this is cut the extension '.jpg' and I'm getting long.file.name_suff. instead of long.file.name_suff.jpg I understand that this is because of [^.]*$ part, but I can't exclude it, because I have to find last occurance of '_a' to replace or last '.' Is there a way to replace only part of the match?
