• Purchasing a TV show adaptation rights, how does it work?

  Basically, I was thinking about a game based on a TV show, just for fun, and ended up thinking "well, it's not like it can be made anyway". Or can it? In the present situation, developing a game by myself/ourselves on my/our free time, and then using crowdfunding to purchase the rights is not that crazy, if the show is really popular... and the rights not too expensive. Purchasing the rights of the whole show is obiously a sh!tload of money, but what about adaptation rights? What is the range of price it can be? Is it a percentage of the full rights? Does it depend on the kind of adaptation (novel vs. toy vs. game)? ps: if it can help answer, I was thinking about a MLPFIM retro RPG. Please don't laugh at me.

• Will I get penalised by google for overflow hidden? [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: How bad is it to use display: none in CSS? 5 answers I have 2 divs next to each other, div A and div B. Div A displays a whole wordpress post and div B displays about 15 excerpts of posts with the same tag. To get this looking nice I set the hight of div B to be the same as the hight of div A with javaScript. This means alot of post excerpts will be hidden due to overflow hidden on div B. Will Google penalise me for this, and if so, how can I make this work and still please Google? Ps. I would gladly prevent the excerpts from being indexed but the main post must be indexed Ds.

  First, thank you in advance for any help that you can give a recent transplant from Windows to Ubuntu. I have a question that I have been seeking the answer too but I draw a blank at every turn. I design websites, free of charge, for nonprofit organizations that are just starting and do not have the resources to hire a design firm. I am in need of a flash/swf editor and compiler. I had a program that I used with the awful previous O/S, however WINE would not run the program. Thank you in advance for any help that you can offer. Since I do not earn a dime for doing this, I would prefer if the program was open source, however any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

After the a while I started thinking it really hard, and if you go really in depth this is a very complex and interesting question to ask. YOu can even ask yourself if (heavy) internet (social) users are an subculture and programmers a culture within. I think it might be an interesting discussion, hope you like it! • ALSA Mutes Incorrect Audio Device on Headphone Event

  I know what the problem is, I just don't know how to prevent it. When I plug in my headphones, ALSA automatically mutes (and sets the volume to 0) the 'Speaker' entry in alsamixer. If I go in and manually unmute (and turn the volume up) I have sound from my headphones. Question is, how do I change this behavior? I want it to adjust the volume to half, but not mute or set the volume to 0. I have seen significant reduction in traffic, impressions, and rankings. I did all the right steps/best practices: change of address in GWT, map old site hierarchy and match to new site for 301 redirects etc. Indexation has gone through the Google process: old site has all but dissappeared from he index and new site is indexed, albeit with some 404 errors which I am addressing. Does anyone else who has gone through eh domain change process have any thoughts/advice? Thanks!

  Firstofall, I am sorry if my question is to broad. I am developing a tile based game and switched from those gl.Begin calls to using VBOs. This is kind of working allready, I managed to render a hexagonal polygon with a simple shader applied. What I am not sure is, how to implement the "whole" tile concept. Concrete the questions are: - Is it better to create 1 VBO for a single tile and render it n-Times in every different position, or render one huge VBO that represents the whole "world" - Depending on the answer above, what is the best way to draw a "linegrid". Overlay with the same vbo using the respecting polygon.mode , or is there a way to let the shader to this? - How would frustum-culling or mousepicking work then, do i need to keep the VBO-data in memory?

My current approach is to split the problem into 2 steps: Generate a complete (solved) Sudoku puzzle. Remove numbers until it's solveable and has only 1 solution. In step 1, since I'm using a brute force methods, I'm facing some run time issues. Is there an optimal way of filling in a complete Sudoku puzzle? In step 2, what kind of algorithm should I use to "puzzlize" a solved sudoku?

  Paraphrasing a recent question: What is Object Oriented Programming ill-suited for? I would like to ask the opposite question: What kind of programs cannot be written unless you use OOP? What kind of programs are not recommended to be written using non-OOP techniques? What kind of programs need OOP in order to even be written? What kind of programs would be too hard to write without OOP ? The answer to this question can help sell the idea of OOP to project leaders that have no special interest in code quality. At least they could buy the idea if one shows them the kind of things that are not even possible unless you use OOP.

• No splash screen on hibernate

  Hibernate is working fine. A bit slow when resuming from a hibernate but I can bear with it just so that I have all open applications on the desktop as I left it. Then again the "slowness" might be because of the 4GB RAM, although I'm assuming only what is used gets swapped and not the entire memory. Going back, my question is has anyone been able to make Ubuntu show a splash screen or some kind of indicator/progress bar to show while hibernating or while resuming? I remember with SuSE on my HP Compaq Presario notebook it had messages appear during and after. Better than nothing, I guess. Thanks in advance! :D

  I got stocked passing parameter to one master page for some reasons, seems the page lifecycle and dynamic loading of the master pages has got some issues with defining public properties in the masterpage within my project. It did not set my values and as a result, properties became useless. A collegue just mentioned using HttpContext. have a look what  MSDN saying "Encapsulates all HTTP-specific information about an individual HTTP request" http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.httpcontext.aspx HttpContext.Current.Items["ParameterName"] Also, Page.Items could do the same thing. • Adding users to multiple/all sites in Google Webmaster Tools?

  I didn't find an answer to this, but maybe I didn't use the right terms for my search. So I'm sorry if this is a duplicate. Anyway, my situation is this: the company I work at manages a lot of sites (100+), and we've recently put them all into Google Webmaster Tools under my Google account, which was tedious enough. Now two coworkers are supposed to be added as users for each site, so they can see the data and manage stuff there as well. But I can only find an option to add users for a single site, not for all sites that are currently associated with my account. Do I really have to go through more than a hundred sites one by one and add the two users to each of them, or is there some way to add both users to all/multiple sites at once?

  I had checking battery state hanging I solved it with the help of an answer from this site: sudo apt-get --reinstall install gnome-power-manager But now my left windows bar is rigid, it does not disappear on wide screen. EDIT Also in most of applications, characters are white. What could be the problem? and what should I do? 2ND EDIT My ubuntu is 12.04 LTS. I was trying to install some packages for dependencies of allegro game development library, one of the packages was libwxgtk2.8-0, after that a red cross appeared near user name and clock. Then computer became frozen and i had to remove my battery. I know it is a very bad thing. Then when i try to restart my computer, it could not start, it was waiting on black screen with line: Checking battery state... Then i run the above command. Computer could start but characters are white.

  Should an interface only be used to specify certain behavior? Would it be wrong to use interface to group logically related data? To me it looks like we should not use interface to group logically related data as structure seems a better fit. A class may be used but class name should indicate something like DTO so that user gets the impression that class does not have any behavior. Please let me know if my assumption is correct. Also, are there any exceptions where interface can be used to group logically related data?

• Is there a way to determine if a database has been altered, then to push new data to the Application

  All our (my company) currently applications pull information from that database, is their a way to get the following types of databses to either push data or push an event to allow the application to pull data. Access SQL Oracle File systems (Files and folders) The issue today is that most of our application spend a large amount of time constantly looking at databases and file system checking to see if data has changed . It would be better for the database to inform the application when data has changed. Are there tools within Visual studio to allow this or are there tools within the database / filesystem to do this? All ready asked this on stack overflow but go no answer. I've been doing some more research but I cant seem to get any further. My manager has asked to investigate it as it would mean our applications are much quicker and efficient.

• Is programming or computer science in general, all about algorithms?

  As a grad student, I find it more and more common for prestigious companies (like Google, Facebook, Microsoft,...) to put algorithm questions in their test and interviews. A few startups I applied to also asked about algorithms. I wonder if algorithms fluency is the most important thing for software developer in those companies? If the answer being yes, what are the best method or resources for one to learn & practice about algorithms effectively? I can't seem to get interested in solving seemingly too complicated problems found in most textbook or websites. Though easily understand basic algorithms (like quicksort, bubblesort,...), I find it immensely difficult to remember and reuse them later. Thanks. P/S: If you ask me what I like, it's building good softwares to solve users' problems innovatively. I suppose that does not necessarily mean the software has to be very complicated.

• Rotate 2d sprite towards pointer

  I'm using Crafty.js and am trying to point a sprite towards the mouse pointer. I have a function for getting the degree between two points and I'm pretty sure it works mathematically (I have it under unit tests). At least it responds that the degree between { 0,0} and {1,1} is 45, which seems right. However, when I set the sprite rotation to the returned degree, it's just wrong all the time. If I manually set it to 90, 45, etc, it gets the right direction.. I have a jsfiddle that shows what I've done so far. Any ideas?

  I've spent more time than i should trying to get my ray picking program working. I'm pretty convinced my math is solid with respect to line plane intersection, but I believe the problem lies with the changing of the mouse screen touch into 3D world space. • Installing programs from a download

  Hello, my name is Anthony and I'm new to Ubuntu and any other Linux OS for that matter. My question concerns downloading a program, and then installing it. The program is called Remotedroid, it lets you use your phone as a wireless keyboard and mouse. I'm use to windows automatically starting setup upon download and cant figure out how to initiate the install in Ubuntu. The programs website says its compatible with Linux OS and the readme file says to just click the extension remotedroidserver.jar to use, but it wont work and none of the files do anything. I've unzipped all the files and my Java is all up to date as far as i know, I think. I'm just not getting how to run a setup in Ubuntu. I looked around this site for the answer but came up with nothing so if someone could maybe offer some insight I would be grateful. Thank you.

  I normally connect my laptop via wifi. However, I would like to use synergy to share my workplace desktop machine with my laptop. But the problem is that my desktop machine doesn't have wireless support. So, I have no other options except using ethernet to connect them.   This question already has an answer here: Disable Ubuntu Update Manager's new version warning 2 answers After I allowed Ubuntu on my notebook to upgrade to 13.4, it lost Wi-Fi connection. Network menu does not show wireless access points, but according to syslog it establishes connection. Also, the wireless router provides IP address to the host. I don't want to spend time on debugging and solving the problem that most probably will reappear with new update, so I decided to reinstall 12.10 version. It recognized Broadcom Wi-Fi modem right after the boot, and everything went great, until today I powered it on and suddenly found that it is running 13.4 and all my problems are back! Is it possible to instruct it to stay with 12.10 until I decide to upgrade?
