• Apply jump menu functionality on select box styled with jquery

  Hi all, I am using this script to apply style on a select box. It works fine as a standalone version. But I also need to apply a jump menu functionality on this select box. I tried adding a function but it seems that there is some conflict between the two scripts. The jquery styling and the jump menu function can't work together at the same time. Can you help me fix it? • Designing a fluent Javascript interface to abstract away the asynchronous nature of AJAX

  How would I design an API to hide the asynchronous nature of AJAX and HTTP requests, or basically delay it to provide a fluid interface. To show an example from Twitter's new Anywhere API: // get @ded's first 20 statuses, filter only the tweets that // mention photography, and render each into an HTML element T.User.find('ded').timeline().first(20).filter(filterer).each(function(status) { $('div#tweets').append('<p>' + status.text + '</p>'); }); function filterer(status) { return status.text.match(/photography/); } vs this (asynchronous nature of each call is clearly visible) T.User.find('ded', function(user) { user.timeline(function(statuses) { statuses.first(20).filter(filterer).each(function(status) { $('div#tweets').append('<p>' + status.text + '</p>'); }); }); }); It finds the user, gets their tweet timeline, filters only the first 20 tweets, applies a custom filter, and ultimately uses the callback function to process each tweet. I am guessing that a well designed API like this should work like a query builder (think ORMs) where each function call builds the query (HTTP URL in this case), until it hits a looping function such as each/map/etc., the HTTP call is made and the passed in function becomes the callback. An easy development route would be to make each AJAX call synchronous, but that's probably not the best solution. I am interested in figuring out a way to make it asynchronous, and still hide the asynchronous nature of AJAX.

  Hello, I have developed an application which allows the user to switch between themes. I'm doing this by including the xaml file as a resource in my project and using the following code: MainTheme.ThemeUri = new Uri("SilverlightApplication1;component/Themes/[ThemeName]/Theme.xaml", UriKind.Relative); This worked well, untill I found these themes: http://timheuer.com/blog/archive/2010/05/17/silverlight-4-tools-released-and-new-application-templates.aspx The difference is that these themes consist of multiple files. So I made a Theme.xaml file that only includes MergedDictionaries so I could still use the code above. This is the Theme.xaml file for the Cosmopolitan theme. <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="CoreStyles.xaml"/> <ResourceDictionary Source="SDKStyles.xaml"/> <ResourceDictionary Source="Styles.xaml"/> <ResourceDictionary Source="ToolkitStyles.xaml"/> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> However, when I run the c# code above I get the following exception: System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException: Failed to assign to property 'System.Windows.ResourceDictionary.Source'. • PF, load balanced gateways, and Squid

  Hi, So I have a FreeBSD router running PF and Squid, and it has three network interfaces: two connected to upstream providers (em0 and em1 respectively), and one for LAN (re0) that we serve. There is some load balancing configured with PF. Basically, it routes all traffic to ports 1-1024 through one interface (em0) and everything else through the other (em1). Now, I have a Squid proxy also running on the box that transparently redirects any HTTP request from LAN to port 3128 in 127.0.0.1. Since Squid redirects this request to HTTP outside, it should follow the load balancing rule through em0, no? The problem is, when we tested it out (by browsing from a computer in the LAN to http://whatismyip.com, it reports the external IP of the em1 interface! When we turn Squid off, the external IP of em0 is reported, as expected. How do I make Squid behave with the load balancing rule that we have set up? • Pros/Cons of MySQL vs Postgresql for production Ruby on Rails environment?

  I will soon be switching from sqlite3 to either postgres or mysql. What should I consider when making this decision? Is mysql more suited for Rails than postgres in some areas and/or vice versa? Or, as I somewhat suspect, does it not really matter either way? Another factor that might play into my decision is the availability of tools to data pump my test data from the sqlite3 db to my new one. Is there anything that ActiveRecord provides natively to do this or any decent plugins/gems to help with this task? Instead, the function does not return.   Friends, I am trying to build a simple iphone application to view a local webpage that uses dynamic fonts. The url is www.eenadu.net. I have just a single view based application and inserted a webview into the view and implementing the webviewdelegate in viewcontroller. The site uses ttf/eot fonts that are dynamically downloadable by browser from http://www.eenadu.net/eenadu.ttf or http://www.eenadu.net/EENADU0.eot. • Unable to create website error (NEW)

  I copied my ClickOnce deployment to my C:/Inetpub/ folder on my webserver and I deleted my Virtual directory. I deleted the WpfApplication1 folder beneath wwwroot in Win Explorer. Then I turned on Web Sharing for this folder. Then I viewed my IIS Manager and this new Share name appeared under wwwroot. So now under Inetpub folder on my web server I have the following directory path: C:\Inetpub\WpfApplication1\ with contents: Application Files publish.htm setup.exe WpfApplication1.application Next, I remapped both the publishing and installation URL's for the project to http://myserver/WpfApplication1/ And I clicked Publish Now. But after I performed a Publish Now operation, I got the following error on my development server (D610-M): Error 1 Failed to connect to 'http://myserver/WpfApplication1/' with the following error: Unable to create the Web site 'http://myserver/WpfApplication1/'. The Web server does not appear to have any authentication methods enabled. It asked for user authentication, but did not send a WWW-Authenticate header. 1 1 WpfApplication1 On my webserver, when I click Browse from the IIS Manager on the WpfApplication1 directory, it shows me the Install page. But after I click the Browse button, it returns an error which says: The remote name could not be resolved: 'd610-m' (D610-M is the name of my development server). How do I fix this?

Any ideas? • Weird URL parse issue. (Android)

  I am attempting to parse in a URL to a KML file from maps.google.com. When I try and use this link: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=112748174025829638330.000483ad6315714cc941d&z=13&output=kml` I am unable to overlay this KML file on my MapView. If I were to take the KML file that I get from following this link and upload it to my Dropbox it will work just fine. I think there may be something about the URL from Google that it doesn't like? Link from dropbox: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1037184/Blue_original.kml Also it would be better if we could just save these KML files locally and pass them in the same way but I can't figure out a way to do this.   I am learning how to use Flex with Adobe Flash Builder 4 standalone. I am working my through the Adobe Flash Build 4 Bible by David Gassner. This has led me to create my own micro problems to try and solve. I am trying to connect to a dynamix XML feed created by the following aspx page: generate_xml.aspx When I create the data connection through the Data/Service panel, I can pick between XML and HTTP. I figured because the generate_xml.aspx has to generate the XML file first, I should use the HTTP service as opposed to the XML. The HTTP service offers GET, which seems to be the kinda thing I want. However, I am really struggling to do this. I keep getting: "The response is not a valid XML or a JSON string" The actual STATIC generated XML file that is created by this page works perfectly when I save it and manually connect with the XML service. Therefore I know my XML code is properly formatted and contains no other HTML of JavaScript. I figure my problem occurs because the page itself is .aspx, but I cannot work out how to successfully ask Flex to request the output of this page, rather than the page itself.

  Why does the DataTemplate line break the WPF designer in Visual Studio 2008? The program compiles and runs properly. The DataTemplate is applied as it should.   Hey gang, Bear with me as I try to learn more about .htaccess redirect rules - I'm a UI guy by profession and I'm doing my best to enhance my coding skills languages other than HTML/CSS/PHP, etc So, what I have is an index.php file that contains a menu - pretty simple. If Javascript is enabled on the users computer then forms are shown below the menu using simple jQuery goodies, with each link having a 'return false;' applied. What I am trying to do is make the page accessible with JS turned off, so instead of redirecting the user to a different page, I would like to use POST or GET variables from each link, to show the various forms.. within the same index.php file - but have the URL reflect the menu choice Here is an example using menu items named - Home, About, Form1 and Form2: With JS on, clicking on of the above example buttons simply slides the form or containing the data down onto the page. With JS off, if the user clicks the 'About' link, I would like to rewrite the URL to be http://domain.com/about - but keep the user on the index.php page (since it is the only page) and be able to use POST or GET variable to show the using PHP. So, accessing http://domain.com/index.php?page=about would show http://domain.com/about in the URL but pass the GET variable 'page' to the index.php file. Hope that makes sense.. and I'm sure there are many ways to accomplish this, so if you have ideas of how to improve on it, by all means, I'd love to hear it ! Thanks again Revive

• Trouble parsing quotes with SAX parser (javax.xml.parsers.SAXParser)

  When using a SAX parser, parsing fails when there is a " in the node content. How can I resolve this? Do I need to convert all " characters? In other words, anytime I have a quote in a node: <node>characters in node containing "quotes"</node> That node gets butchered into multiple character arrays when the Handler is parsing it. Is this normal behaviour? Why should quotes cause such a problem? • Help with php code - need to add condition to make one link https

  Hi, I have a wordpress blog and I need to make one of the pages secure. I have been told to make the link to that page point to https://claimpage.html as opposed to http://claimpage.html. The problem is I don't actually create the menu that links the user to the individual pages. This is done automatically by the code in the background. I think I need to put in some sort of an IF statement, saying, if the title of the page is "claim now" then use https otherwise use http. • Quick help refactoring Ruby Class

  I've written this class that returns feed updates, but am thinking it can be further improved. It's not glitchy or anything, but as a new ruby developer, I reckon it's always good to improve :-) class FeedManager attr_accessor :feed_object, :update, :new_entries require 'feedtosis' def initialize(feed_url) @feed_object = Feedtosis::Client.new(feed_url) fetch end def fetch @feed_object.fetch end def update @updates = fetch end def updated? @updates.new_entries.count > 0 ? true : false end def new_entries @updates.new_entries end end As you can see, it's quite simple, but the things I'm seeing that aren't quite right are: Whenever I call fetch via terminal, it prints a list with the updates, when it's really supposed return an object. So as an example, in the terminal if I do something like: client = Feedtosis::Client.new('http://stackoverflow.com/feeds') result = client.fetch I then get: <Curl::Easy http://stackoverflow.com/feeds> Which is exactly what I'd expect. However, when doing the same thing with "inniting" class with: FeedManager.new("http://stackoverflow.com/feeds") I'm getting the object returning as an array with all the items on the feed. Sure I'm doing something wrong, so any help refactoring this class will he greatly appreciated. Also, I'd like to see comments about my implementation, as well as any sort of comment to make it better would be welcome. Thanks in advance
