  • The C vs. C++ way

    Hi, So I have to write a program that will iterate through an image and record the pixel locations corresponding to each color pixel that appears in it. For example, given http://www.socuteurl.com/fishywishykissy I need to find the coordinates of all yellow, purple, dark pink, etc pixels. In C++ I would use a hash table to do this. I would iterate through the image, check each pixel's value, look up that value and either add to a vector of pixel coordinates if it were found or add a new entry to the table if the value were not already there. The problem is that I may need to write this program in pure C instead of C++. How would I go about doing this in C? I feel like implementing a hash table would be pretty obnoxious and error-prone: should I avoid doing that? I'm pretty inexperienced with C and have a fair amount of C++ experience, if that matters.   • client-side data storage and retrieval with html and javascript

    I'm building what I am hoping to be a fairly simple, quick and dirty demo app. So far, I've managed to build a bunch of components using only html and javascript. I know that eventually I'll hook-up a db, but at this point I'm just trying to show off some functionality. In the page, a user can select a bunch of other users (like friends). Then they go to a separate html page and there is some sorting info based on the selected users. So my first attempt was to put the selected users object into a cookie, and retrieve the cookie on the second page. Unfortunately, if the user changed their selection, the cookie wasn't getting updated, and my searches on StackOverflow seemed to say that deleting and updating cookies is unreliable. I tried function updateCookie(updatedUserList){ jQuery.cookie('userList',null); jQuery.cookie('userList',updatedUserList); } but though it set the cookie to null, it wouldn't update it on the second value. So I decided to put the selected users object into a form. Unfortunately, it looks like I can't retrieve the contents from the form on the client-side, only on the server-side. Is there another way to do this? I've worked in PHP and Rails, but I'm trying to do this quickly and simply before building it out into something larger and am trying to avoid any server-side processing for now, which I have managed to do up to this point.

My initial thought was this in my forms.py: client = forms.ModelChoiceField(queryset=Client.objects.filter(user__username = User.username)) But it didn't work. So how else would I go about it?

    Hi all , Im trying to read in image file from a server , with the code below . It keeps going into the exception. I know the correct number of bytes are being sent as I print them out when received. As far as I can tell its definitely sending too as the send all method in python sends all or throws an exception in the event of an error and so far it has never thrown an exception. So the client side is messed up . I have to send the file from the server so I cant use the suggestion suggested by Brian .

    Hi, Scenario is as follows:- I want to reverse the direction of the singly linked list, In other words, after the reversal all pointers should now point backwards.. Well the algorithm should take linear time. The solution that i have thought of using another datastructure A Stack.. With the help of which the singly linked list would be easily reversed, with all pointers pointing backwards.. But i am in doubt, that whether the following implementation yeild linear time complexity.. Please comment on this.. And if any other efficient algorithm is in place, then please discuss.. Thanks.

    We're about to embark on some ASP.NET MVC development and have been using our own entity framework for years. However we need to support more than our entity framework is capable of and so I'd like to get some opinions about using MVC with a more robust framework. We have narrowed down or choices to either NHibernate (with the Fluent APIs) or LINQ to SQL. Which framework lends itself best to MVC style development (I know SO uses LINQ to SQL)? If we want to support SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL - does that exclude LINQ to SQL?

Could both simply use the same persistent store coordinator, or would I have to create two instances of NSPersistentStoreCoordinator? I really don't understand the reason... UPDATE AND SOLUTION: If i move History = new ChronoLaps(); LayoutRoot.DataContext = History; from butStart_Click to public MainPage() everything works as expected. Can someone explain me the reason?

    I'm trying to compile a binary file into a MACH_O object file so that it can be linked it into a dylib. The dylib is written in c/c++. On linux the following command is used: ld -r -b binary -o foo.o foo.bin I have tried various option on OSX but to no avail: ld -r foo.bin -o foo.o gives: ld: warning: -arch not specified ld: warning: ignoring file foo.bin, file was built for unsupported file format which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64) An empty .o file is created ld -arch x86_64 -r foo.bin -o foo.o ld: warning: ignoring file foo.bin, file was built for unsupported file format which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64) Again and empty .o file is created. Checking the files with nm gives: nm foo.o nm: no name list The binary file is actually, firmware that will be downloaded to an external device. Thanks for looking

    Hey all, i am checking for an internet connection by checking for a file on my server. The file only has the word LIVE displayed on the page. No HTML or anything else is there, just the word LIVE. When i run this code, i do get the NSLog as saying "LIVE" but once i go to check it with the IF statement, it fails and i just do not know why??? When I enter this, everything works fine: i <- 1 shapiro.test(ddd[,y]) ad.test(ddd[,y]) stem(ddd[,y]) print(y) The calls to Shapiro Wilk, Anderson Darling, and stem all work, and extract the same column. If I put this code in a "for" loop, the calls to Shapiro Wilk, and Anderson Darling stop working, while the the stem & leaf call and the print call continue to work. for (y in 7:10) { shapiro.test(ddd[,y]) ad.test(ddd[,y]) stem(ddd[,y]) print(y) } The decimal point is 1 digit(s) to the right of the | 0 | 0 0 | 899999 1 | 0 [1] 7 The same thing happens if I try and write a function. SW & AD do not work. The other calls do.     I would like to have a very short / minimal example of how to create some tabular widget with different types of item in it. In the first round let's say I'd like to render [["Hello", 12, True], ["World", 13, False]] (Hello as string, 12 as number (right-align), True as a checkbox for eg.), but it would be nice to have Dates, Colors, and other type of info. Next round: editing (integer with spinbox, maybe sometimes a combobox is handy, but that may not work out of the box). There must be a simple solution, but I couldn't find...

As of now I am pulling in the 20K products, looping through them and modifying some properties and then updating the database. so: load products foreach products session begintransaction productDao.MakePersistant(p); session commit(); As of now things are pretty slow compared to your standard jdbc, what can I do to speed things up? I am sure I am doing something wrong here.
