  • Please Recommend a Good .NET Oriented REST book

    - by DaveDev
    Hi Guys I'm Curious if somebody could recommend a book about REST that isn't "Effective REST Services Via .NET: For .NET Framework 3.5 (Microsoft .Net Development)". One of my colleagues read it and he wasn't too impressed with it. Can anyone suggest a better one? Thanks Dave

    Hi, I have a database (SQL server express 2008) which has a column that is defined as text. When we try to store some text which is in chinese, it is not saved. I read that the field should be ntext. I will now have to a conversion to my table to create the column as ntext. Would I have to do anything with the collation of the database which is set to Latin? • how does sql count work?

    - by ria
    I would like to understand how exactly does sql count work. Is it a whole table scan that happens or is it some property of the table that is read. However I feel a table scan would be an overhead in case of huge tables with lots of records.

  • Java NullPointerException. Why?

    - by user292844
    I am new to Java. I just read that class variables in Java have default value. I tried the following program. I was expecting to get the output as 0, which is the default value on an integer, but I get the NullPointerException. What am I missing? class Test{ static Integer iVar; public static void main(String...args) { System.out.println(iVar.intValue()); } }

  • When is it okay to reference WindowsBase.dll?

    - by Tyler
    I've heard/read about people not wanting to reference the assembly because of the Windows component (e.g. "I don't want to reference Windows for my Web App). I'd like to hear what a large community feels about this. For which project types (business, data access, etc.) is it considered acceptable to reference WindowsBase.dll.

  • C++ priority queue structure userd ?

    - by John Retallack
    While searching for some functions in C++ STL documentation I read that push and pop for priority queues needs constant time. "Constant (in the priority_queue). Although notice that push_heap operates in logarithmic time." My question is what kind of data structure is used to mantain a priority queue with O(1) for push and pop ?

  • Book for learning WPF

    - by Am
    I have read this question. My question is whether WPF Unleashed is still the most recommended (since the question is over a year old)? Also, what do you think about WPF Recipes or Pro WPF?

  • Smarty: including a template file from the same directory

    - by Robert Munteanu
    I have a Smarty template located in a directory under templates_dir: templates/some/dir/template.tpl . In the same directory, I have a sub-template: templates/some/dir/_component.tpl . I can't include the sub-component using an unqualified include, since apparently it looks it up under the templates_dir: {include file='_component.tpl'} How can I tell Smarty to read the file from the same directory, as opposed to the templates root ? I do not want to specify absolute paths, since it will cause problems when changing directory structures.

  • J2SE Client Server App: Client calls RMI method. Server handles RMI method and returns, but Client

    - by Mike
    J2SE Client Server App: Client calls RMI message. Server handles RMI method and returns, but Client never receives it. Any ideas how this could happen? Our attempted solution is to set client read timeouts and come up with a framework for resending requests or otherwise handling those failures gracefully. But really, I'd like to know any root causes for how this might happen rather than addressing the symptoms.

  • Supress the Soft Keboard when an activity loads... yet again

    - by tunneling
    this.getWindow().setSoftInputMode(WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_STATE_ALWAYS_HIDDEN); Same problem that I've read on other posts. I don't want the soft keyboard to pop up when the Activity loads. The above code snippet works, however my View no longer scrolls up so that the User can still see the EditText. It scrolls without this line of code. Any ideas?

  • flashlog viewer

    - by user334091
    Hi all, I want to build an application using air. The application should load the flashlog file and display the contents after performing some text filtering. But when i load the application this clears my flashlog.txt though my file mode is READ. I can understand that running my air application clears the flashlog and prepares it for new logging. Is there a workaround for this. I dont want to open the flashlog file everytime and check for traces from my web application

  • SQL Server 2008 - Query takes forever to finish even though work is actually done

    - by Brian
    Running the following simple query in SSMS: UPDATE tblEntityAddress SET strPostCode= REPLACE(strPostCode,' ','') The update to the data (at least in memory) is complete in under a minute. I verified this by performing another query with transaction isolation level read uncommitted. The update query, however, continues to run for another 30 minutes. What is the issue here? Is this caused by a delay to write to disk? TIA
