  • Background job with status in rails

    Hey. I would like to upload a file and then parse it. Because parsing can take up to 10min I installed delayed_job plugin and called parsing function through send_later function. I have to mention that this is an AJAX app. Imagine that you press an AJAX button that starts upload and after that the source is imported into the database. During the process I want to show the progress bar or message (importing...) and when it completes the task status changes to done. My question is: What is the best way to check for status of the process. What would you do? My idea is to have another controller actions "status" which look into the database and provide the right status.

  • Entity-attribute-value model using codeigniter / php

    SO I am trying to create a way to structure my database to be able customize forms. I looked into EAV pattern and here is my db structure: Table form - form_id - form_name - form_added_on - form_modified_at Table: form_fields - field_id - form_id - field_type (TEXT, RADIO etc..) - field_default_value - field_required Table: form_data - data_id - field_id - form_id - field_value so now I can store any custom form into the database and if I want to get the values for an individual form I can simply join it by "form_id" .. the problem: I want to be able to search through all the forms for a specific field value. How can I do that with EAV model? Also, I thought about just storing the custom data as a serialized (JSON) object but then I am not sure how can I query that data. Please note that I am using Codeigniter with MYSQL. So if conversation can use Codeigniter libraries if needed.

  • How come jQuery can't remove this element?

    I have a table like this: <table id='inventory_table'> <tr id='no_items_avail'> <td> There are no items in the database. </td> </tr> </table> And I want to get rid of it with jQuery like this: $('#inventory_table tbody tr#no_items_avail').remove(); However it doesn't seem to be working at all. What am I doing wrong? Edit: Also, the row above was originally inserted into the DOM with another jQuery call: $('#inventory_table tbody').append("<tr id='no_items_avail'....... If that helps. And, running: alert($('#no_items_avail').text()); yields "There are no items in the database." as expected.

  • Session caching problem

    I have a strange problem with php sessions. I use them for authorization on my site. I store two variables - currently logged in user's id and username in session. When I log in with one username, than log out and log in again with another username the previous user's id is returned using the session variable instead of the current user. The most strange thing is that this happens only when it comes to insert some data into database. When I directly echo this variable the correct id is displayed, but when I insert new record into database this variable sends incorrect id. While generating code for the SQL Server 2008 I came to the point where I want to define some default values for some fields. how to define in the designer for a Created DateTime Field the DateTime.Now default value? - Error 54: Default value (DateTime.Now) is not valid for DateTime. The value must be in the form 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.fffZ' how to make for code generation a string Field unique. Like E-Mail or Username can exists only once in the table. I've search alot in the internet and also checked my books Pro Entity Framework 4.0 and Programming Entity Framework. But none of them seems to come up with the default value issue, or using sql commands as default values for database generation. Another thing is, how to prevent on database generation always from droping tables? Instead i want to append non existing fields and keep the data. Thanks for any suggestions.

  • get SSL Broken pipe error when try to make push notification

    We develop an iPhone app, and have push notification for development and ad hoc version working properly. But when we try to send push notification to real user devices in our database, we got SSL connection reset, then Broken pipe error. We think maybe there are too many devices in our database (more than 70000), so it is failed to send all messages at the same time. So we try to send messages to 1000 devices once, but still got this "Broken pipe" error for around 100 messages. And we are not sure whether the messages have been send. Any suggestion?

    Hello fellows, what's up? :-) I have one problem and i hope you can help me with it. One friend of mine have a simple solid html website and i implemented little php; CRUD system for articles... problem i came across is placing and getting cyrillic characters from mysql database. What i want to achive is next: In the main navigation there are some separated sections, whose names, ids and item's order i want to place in mysql and than to pull names and to put each name as a link. Names are supposed to be cyrillic characters. The problem comes when i, using php mysql_fetch_assoc function, try to display names which are inserted with cyrillic characters in database row, collation of row is utf8_general_ci, and i end with ????? insted of original characters. If i submit cyrillic characters via submit form to mysql it shows something like this У. How can i solve this, thanks in advance!? :-)

    Hi, I would like to unit test a DEPENDENT service layer which allows me to perform CRUD operation without mocking using NUnit. I know this is probably bad practice but I want to give it a try anyway - even if the tests have to run over night. My data is persisted using NHibernate and I have implemented a little library that 'bootstraps' the database which I could use in a [Setup] method. I am just wondering if someone has done something similar and what the fastest method for bootstrapping the database is. I am using something like this: var cfg = new Configuration(); cfg.Configure(); cfg.AddAssembly("Bla"); new SchemaExport(cfg).Execute(false, true, false); to establish the db schema.   • Can I get a dump of all my databases *except one* using mysqldump?

    I'm currently using mySQLdump to backup my dev machine and servers. There is one project I just started, however, that has a HUUUUUGE database that I don't really need backed up, and i'll be a big problem to add it to the rest of the backup cycle. I'm currently doing this: "c:\Program Files\mysql\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqldump" -u root -pxxxxxx --all-databases g:\backups\MySQL\mysqlbackup.sql Is it possible to somehow specify "except this database(s)"? I wouldn't like to have to specify the list of DBs manually, since that would mean that I'd have to remember updating my backup batch file every time I create a new DB, and I know that's not gonna happen. EDIT: As you probably guessed from my command line above, i'm doing this on Windows, so I can't do any kind of fancy bash stuff, only wimpy .bat things. Alternatively, if you have other ideas to solve this same issue, they are more than welcome, of course! Thanks Daniel

  • Complex Entity Framework linked-graphs issue: how to limit change set / break the graph?

    I have an EDMX containing Sentences, and Words, say and a Sentence contains three Words, say. Appropriate FK relationships exist between the tables. I create some words: Word word1 = new Word(); Word word2 = ... I build a Sentence: Sentence x = new Sentence (word1, word2, word3); I build another Sentence: Sentence y = new Sentence (word1, word4, word5); I try to save x to the database, but EF builds a change set that includes everything, including y, word4 and word5 that aren't ready to save to the database. When SaveChanges() happens it throws an exception: Unable to determine the principal end of the ... relationship. Multiple added entities may have the same primary key. I think it does this because Word has an EntityCollection<Sentence> on it from the FK relationship between the two tables, and thus Sentence y is inextricably linked to Sentence x through word1. So I remove the Navigation Property Sentences from Word and try again. It still tries to put the entire graph into the change set. What suggestions do the Entity Framework experts have for ways to break this connection. Essentially what I want is a one-way mapping from Sentence to Word; I don't want an EntityCollection<Sentence> on Word and I don't want the object graph to get intertwined like this. Code sample: This puts two sentences into the database because Verb1 links them and EF explores the entire graph of existing objects and added objects when you do Add/SaveChanges.   • Checkbox 'Checked' in ListView is restored after scrolling

    I'm having the following problem: I have a ListActivity, which its ListView is composed by an icon, text and a checkbox (using LayoutInflater). The Adapter for the ListView extends ResourceCursorAdapter (i.e. the data source of the ListView is retrieved from a database, also the Checked status of each row) Everything works pretty Ok, except when I uncheck/check the checkbox in any row, if I scroll down until the modified checkbox is no longer visible, and then scroll up, the checkbox is restored to its original state. The database IS modified, this is not the problem (i.e. if I modify a row and exit the activity, and enter again, the modified row is displayed Ok). My guess is that this has something to do on how the list is rendered because for some reason the ListView "renders" the original state of all rows when it was first populated when scrolling. I've been looking around for this bug but I don't find anybody that had this problem. I appreciate any advice you have.

    I've been trying to debug the following problem for several weeks now - this method is called from several places within the same datamodule, but this exception (from the subject line of this post) only occurs when integers for a certain purpose (pickup orders vs. orders that we ship through a carrier) are used - and don't ask me how the application can tell the difference between one integer's purpose and another! Furthermore, I cannot duplicate this issue on my machine - the error occurs on a warehouse machine but not my own development machine, even when working with the same production database. I've tried every combination of TParameter properties that I can think of - this is the millionth TParameter I've created for my millionth dataset, and I've never encountered this error. I've even created a second dataset from scratch and removed all references to the original dataset in case some property of the original dataset in the .dfm might be corrupted, but the same error occurs under the same circumstances. The commandtext for this dataset is a simple select ValueA from TableName where ValueB = @ParameterB I'm about ready to do something extreme, such as writing a web service to look these values up - it feels right now as though I could destroy my machine, rebuild it, rewrite this entire application from scratch, and the application would still know to throw an exception whenever I try to look up a secondary value from a primary value, but only for pickup orders, and only from the one machine in the warehouse, but I'm probably missing something simple. So, any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, I have recently installed SQL Server 2008 Express Edition with Advanced Services on XP Pro but am having trouble getting full text searching to work with an restored database. The database was originally created in SQL Server 2005. When I call a stored proc that uses the full text index then I get the following error: Full-Text Search is not installed, or a full-text component cannot be loaded. This is my db version: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (RTM) - 10.0.1600.22 (Intel X86) Jul 9 2008 14:43:34 Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 3) When I run: SELECT DATABASEPROPERTY('DBNAME','ISFULLTEXTENABLED') I get: 1 Also, when I look in the advanced properties for the db server in Management Studio I see both the "Default Full-Text Language" and "Full-Text Upgrade Option" properties. However, when I go to SQL Server Configuration Manager I don't see the "MSSQLFDLauncher" service. Does anyone know how to get this working? Cheers, Iain

    For some reason, I want to dump a table from a database (sqlite3) in the form of a csv file. I'm using a python script with elixir (based on sqlalchemy) to modify the database. I was wondering if there is any way to dump the table I use to csv. I've seen sqlalchemy serializer but it doesn't seem to be what I want. Am I doing it wrong? Should I call the sqlite3 python module after closing my sqlalchemy session to dump to a file instead? Or should I use something homemade?

  • Restarting service from a client computer without rights

    I have already created the program to restart a SQL database but it only works if the client has the rights. This is going to be done on a local network from a client computer when they can't get a person that has the password on the phone. Any thoughts I'm currently using the servicecontroller to start and stop database. When I don't have the rights I get a access denied error, or This operation might require other privileges. Not sure if impersonation would work since I don't have the userid and password.

    I'm queuing messages to a WebSphere MQ queue (NB: A point-to-point queue -- not a topic) using a stored procedure in my Oracle database. Is there a way to publish each message to multiple queues with a single call? What I would like is to find a solution that would incur zero additional latency on my database compared to sending the message to a single queue. Solutions that involve changing my WebSphere MQ settings are certainly welcome! What I had in mind was somehow creating a "clone" queue that got all the same messages as the original one, but I've been unable to locate anything like this in the documentation. Thanks, Jeff

    This is a small portion of my code file. Each time my debugger reaches the line 'NewDA.Fill(NewDS);' at runtime it jumps to the catch. I'm positive the daynumber variable gets a value that's present in the database and I've tried the query outside of the codefile on my database and it works fine.
