  • Best way to validate currency input?

    I have created the TextBox and CompareValidator below which I thought would allow input in the following forms: 5 5.00 $5.00 Unfortunately it's not allowing the version with the dollar sign in it. What is the point of doing a type check against currency if you don't allow the dollar sign?   • Creating immutable objects from javabean

    Hi All, I am involved in this project where we are building on good bit of legacy code. I have a particular situation about one big java bean object which has to be transferred over wire. So my first thought was to make it immutable and serializable to do the trick .At this point I am faced with a few difficult choices :- 1 Ideally I want some way to automatically generate an immutable, serializable version of this class. I dont have the scope to refactor or alter this class in any way and i would really really hate to have to copy paste the class with a different name ?? 2 Assuming that i gave up on 1 i.e i actually chose to duplicate code of the HUGE javabean class , i still will be in the unsavoury situation of having to write a constructor with some 20-25 parameters to make this class immutable. what is a better way to make a class immutable other than constructor injection ??   • Can one extract model fit parameters after a ggplot stat_smooth call?

    Using stat_smooth, I can fit models to data. E.g. g=ggplot(tips,aes(x=tip,y=as.numeric(unclass(factor(tips$sex))-1))) +facet_grid(time~.) g=g+ stat_summary(fun.y=mean,geom="point") g=g+ stat_smooth(method="glm", family="binomial") I would like to know the coefficients of the glm binomial fits. I could re-do the fit with dlply and get the coefficients with ldply, but I'd like to avoid such duplication. Calling str(g) reveals the hierarchy of objects that ggplot creates, perhaps there's some way to get to the coefficients through that?

  • JavaScript pack("d") - binary strings

    I'm trying to replicate the Perl and PHP style pack and unpack functions in JavaScript. Unsigned integers were easy enough, so my pack('n') and pack('N') are ok. But my lack of a computer science background is a hurdle now and I don't know where to start with pack('d') for packing JavaScript's standard floating point. Is there a JavaScript library for this out there? If not, is there a good resource where I can learn how to do this? I am fine with bitwise and binary level operations in JS, I just don't know where to start with the logic. Thanks.

  • Adding a Jar to ext and using it in Eclipse

    I am providing a client with a lab station image for a school program. There is a library that I'd like to directly add to the JRE so that students can use the library without needing to fiddle with adding the classpath. As this is a basic after school program, the goal is to just get students into programming with as little overhead additions as possible. At this point, I have the lib put into the jre/lib/ext and Eclipse is able to find it, however it will not allow access to any of the classes. I see it in the JRE System Library and the classes and packages are showing up there but when I go to use it, I am getting an "Access restriction" error. When I remove the JRE System Library then add it back in, everything works swimmingly. The library is accessible exactly as intended. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

    I have created tabbar based project in MT and I have following flow in my storyboard; Tabbarcontroller -> 1) MainViewController -> CustomerViewController; 2) SettingViewController The problem I am having is that when I use PrepareForSegue function in CustomerViewController and pointing it to MainViewController. Tab Bar UI is missing from MainViewController. I know that if I point to TabBarController it is going to be fine. But I need to pass some data exactly to MainViewController. Is there any way to make it. I am new in iOS and monotouch. Any suggestion appreciate.

    I was seeing today the addslashes and addcslashes in php.net, but did not get the point on what is the difference between them and what are the characters escaped in these two. <?php $originaltext = 'This text does NOT contain \\n a new-line!'; $encoded = addcslashes($originaltext, '\\'); $decoded = stripcslashes($encoded); //$decoded now contains a copy of $originaltext with perfect integrity echo $decoded; //Display the sentence with it's literal \n intact ?> If i comment the $decoded variable and echo $encoded, i get the same value which is in the original string. Can anyone clearly explain me the difference and use of these two.

  • Rails passenger production cache definition

    Hi I'm having a bit of a problem with storing data in rails cache under production. What I currently have is this, though I have been trying to work this out for hours already: #production.rb config.cache_store = :mem_cache_store if defined?(PhusionPassenger) PhusionPassenger.on_event(:starting_worker_process) do |forked| if forked Rails.cache.instance_variable_get(:@data).reset end end end I am using a cron job to (try to) save remote data to the cache for display. It is logged as being written to the cache but reportedly null. If anyone could point me toward a decent current tutorial on the subject or offer guidance I'd be extremely grateful. This is really, really frustrating me. :(

  • C++ DLL which can inform a calling program about its progress

    My boss wants me to write a DLL in C++ (MSVC++2010) which can perform a Volume Shadow Copy which he can call from VB6 (or at a later point other languages) and which can give status updates back while it is not finished. He calls it "events". I have the feeling that I finally need to learn COM (I'd rather not ...) ... also, a callback function comes to my mind, but it's surely impossible to hand over function pointers from VB6 to C++? Can someone outline what I have to learn and how this can be accomplished, with or without COM?

  • Reloading Rails Directories on Change for Development, Not in Lib

    I have checked out several questions on this, including all of those you see next to the question. Unfortunately, I'm not working with a plugin, and I don't want to work in lib. I have a directory called File.join(Rails.root, 'classes') and I'd like the classes in this directory to reload automatically in dev. In my environment.rb I have this line config.load_paths << File.join(Rails.root, 'classes') which works fine and blows up if the path isn't there. The reloading line in my development.rb also works fine require_dependency File.join(Rails.root, 'classes', 'blah.rb') which blows up if the file is not there (a good sign). However, the file doesn't reload. This all works if the file is in the root of lib and I use the require_dependency line, but my whole point is to get stuff out of lib as suggested here.

  • "Othello" game needs some clarification

    I am trying to see if my understanding of "othello" fame is correct or not. According to the rules, we flip the dark/light sides if we get some sequence like X000X = XXXXX. The question I have is if in the process of flipping 0-X or X- 0, do we also need to consider the rows/columns/diagonals of newly flipped elements? e.g. consider board state as shown in above image(New element X is placed @ 2,3) When we update board, we mark elements from 2,3 to 6,3 as Xs but in this process elements like horizontal 4,3 to 4,5 and diagonal 2,3 to 4,5 are also eligible for update? so do we update those elements as well? or just the elements which have starting as 2,3 (i.e update rows/column/diagonal whose starting point is the element we are dealing with, in our case 2,3?) Please help me understand it

  • How can I pass in specific parameters to mstest in Visual Studio

    I'm trying to modify my test projuect to allow for remote invocation of an api we're building. Right now the tests are hard coded to run locally(against localhost), but I would like to be able to point the tests at any endpoint (even remote ones in production). Ideally there would be a place in the .testsettings for config values to be stored. Sadly this isn't the case. Or, being able to pass parameters to MSTest that the test would read...? Any ideas?   • Don't know how to encrypt database using SQLCipher

    I have included SQLCipher into my project exactly like explained in this link: http://sqlcipher.net/ios-tutorial/ But I am not sure how to encrypt the database I have read description from above link but not getting. Actually what I am doing is if application is opening first time then it will copy the database(i.e. without encryption) to the document directory. One more thing my database is blank when copying from bundle to document directory. I have tried to use sqlite3_key function after opening the database but nothing is encrypted. But I didn't found something like how to encrypt database when copying from bundle to document directory. I am planning to use FMDB so it would be better to reply according to that. Please guide me how to do that or point to direction if is there any tutorial for it. Also suggest what should be the standard approach to do that.

    Consider the 16-Bit data packet below, which is sent through the network in network byte order ie Big Endian: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 (Byte num) 34 67 89 45 90 AB FF 23 65 37 56 C6 56 B7 00 00 (Value) Lets say 8945 is a 16 bit value. All others are 8 bit data bytes. On my system, which is little endian, how would the data be received and stored? Lets say, we are configured to receive 8 bytes at a time. RxBuff is the Rx buffer where data will be received. Buff is the storage buffer where data would be stored. Please point out which case is correct for data storage after reading 8 bytes at a time: 1) Buff[] = {0x34, 0x67, 0x45, 0x89, 0x90, 0xAB....... 0x00}; 2) Buff[] = {0x00, 0x00, .......0x67, 0x89, 0x45, 0x34}; Would the whole 16 bytes data be reversed or only the 2 bytes value contained in this packet?

It is not clear how new instances are allocated in the C++ code, when new is called in Javascript. How would you expose a class that can have multiple instances?   • How can I use multithreading in a Windows Forms application to update a progress bar?

    There are two objects. The Windows Form with a button and a progress bar, and another object that handles an algorithm. In the algorithm object there is an event, and a property. The event is ProgressChanged, and the property is Progress (which is an int). In the calling window, the button starts off a set of steps in the algorithm object. As each step (or substeps) occurs, the ProgressChanged event fires, and in the window there is an event handler that essentially increments the progress bar relative to the Progress property. The problem I am running into is that because the algorithm has a possibility (and high liklihood) of running a relatively long time, I need to move it into it's own background thread and push the event back up to the window. My issue is that I'm not completely sure what I'm doing when it comes to multi-threading. I've looked at Control.Invoke and I'm a little lost. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    GAE recommends using JDO/JPA. But I have serious question about using OODB like them. JDO based on user's class structure. And data structure should be modified continually as service advances. So, If data(entity) class property being removed, what happened to existing data on the property? If data(entity) class renamed for refactoring reason, how the JDO know those renaming? Or all data loss? Major point is "How JDO/GAE/BigTable applies modification of class into existing entity structure and data?".

  • Java: Looking for hack to deal with Windows file paths in Linux

    Say you have a large legacy ColdFusion on top of Java on Windows application. File access is done both via java.io.File and by CFFILE (which in turn also uses java.io.File), but not centralised in any way into a single file access library. Further, say you have file paths both hard-coded in the code, and also in a database. In other words, assume the file paths themselves cannot change. They could be either local or remote Windows file paths: c:\temp\file.txt \\server\share\file.txt Is there a way to run this application on Linux with minimal code changes? I'm looking for creative solutions that do not involve touching the legacy code. Some ideas: Run it on WINE. This actually works, because WINE will translate the local paths, and has a samba client for the remote paths. Is there a way to override java.io.File to perform the file path translation with custom code? In this case, I would translate the remote paths to a mount point.

  • How do I change the class of an object to a subclass of its current class in C++?

    I have an array of pointers to a base class, so that I can make those pointers point to (different) subclasses of the base class, but still interact with them. (really only a couple of methods which I made virtual and overloaded) I'm wondering if I can avoid using the pointers, and instead just make an array of the base class, but have some way to set the class to the subclass of my choosing. I know there must be something there specifying the class, as it needs to use that to look up the function pointer for virtual methods. By the way, the subclasses all have the same ivars and layout. Note: the design is actually based on using a template argument instead of a variable, due to performance increases, so really the abstract base class is just the interface for the subclasses, which are all the same except for their compiled code.   • How to read system information in C++ on Windows and Linux?

    I need to read system information like CPU/RAM/disks usage in C++. Maybe swap, network and process too but that's less important. It has probably been done thousand of times before so I first tried to search for a library. Someone here suggested SIGAR, which seems to fit my needs but it has a GPL license and it is for inclusion in a proprietary product. So it's not an option here. I feel like it's something not that easy to implement, as it'll need testing on several platforms. So a library would be welcome. If you don't know of any library, could you point me in the right direction for both platforms?

  • Image animation stops on minimizing and restoring

    I have a .NET WinForms application with an animated GIF in a PictureBox. It's a loading animation, shown while a BackgroundWorker does some processing in another thread. I load the image by setting the Image property and it animates on its own. All is fine until I minimize and restore the application. At which point, the image stops animating and just displays whatever frame it was last on. Note that: The background thread still runs fine and none of the "business" of the application is affected. Subsequently-displayed animated GIFs do work fine (unless the application is minimized again). Does anyone know what causes this problem? Any workarounds?

  • Slick PHP based image manager for managing user profile images

    Hi, I'm just throwing this out there as I'm plodding my way through creating a Member Photo album on a site i'm working on, where they can login and upload their photos to a personal gallery. I want this to be nice and lightweight, but still slick and "modern" with a modal based interface for the user. I'm surprised though that there is seemingly nothing open source out there which fits the bill - I've done a few searches on Google to no avail and can't seem to find anything. Lots of bloated photo galleries out there but nothing looks like it has been developed using more recent technologies. Is anyone aware of anything which might suit what I'm looking for? I'm fully prepared to try and code it myself but I'd be delighted if I didn't have to! Pure laziness you might say, but there's no point reinventing the wheel.

    The following line of code displays an image on my application window, within an NSImageView control named outputImageView. I used Interface Builder to put the NSImageView control onto the window, initially (then bound it to outputImageView). How do I change the size of the NSImageView control within my program, so that it matches the size of the actual image I am displaying (which may change, periodically)? And what if I wanted to change the anchor point for the image (i.e., centered, left edge, bottom right, or whatever? Thanks in advance! [outputImageView setImage: outputImage];

  • UIScrollView with over 100 images

    I have implemented a UIScrollView on the iPhone that contains 100 image slots which I fill only the currently visible page, the one before it, and the one after it as the user scrolls. Everything works fine until we get up to image 97 or 98, the entire view disappears! The only thing I can do at that point is navigate back to the previous view. Nothing works as far as the scroll view after this. I am not receiving any memory warnings an the rest of the app functions fine. Any ideas? Has anyone created a UIScrollView in paging mode with over 100 pages? Rick
