• Android -- SDK/IDE Layout Bug (w/Custom Layouts)??

  Hello all, Can someone tell me if this is a bug in the SDK/IDE: Any custom or extended layout I add to my layout XML causes the IDE to ignore the fact that there are any child views of that layout (they just disappear from the outline view/window), thus making them uneditable via the properties view/window. (I need to extend a layout to make onSetAlpha() public) FYI: I'm developing for Android 1.5 and up, using all the latest plug-ins/updates in Eclipse Here is a simple example of a layout XML and the extended Layout that causes this error. • How to extract the Sql Command from a Complied Linq Query

  In normal (not compiled) Linq to Sql queries you can extract the SQLCommand from the IQueryable via the following code: SqlCommand cmd = (SqlCommand)table.Context.GetCommand(query); Is it possible to do the same for a compiled query? The following code provides me with a delegate to a compiled query: private static readonly Func<Data.DAL.Context, string, IQueryable<Word>> Query_Get = CompiledQuery.Compile<Data.DAL.Context, string, IQueryable<Word>>( (context, name) => from r in context.GetTable<Word>() where r.Name == name select r); When i use this to generate the IQueryable and attempt to extract the SqlCommand it doesn't seem to work. • ListView causing OutOfMemory Error

  So I am not really given a reason to the right of this error message. I am not exactly sure why this is happening but my guess though is that it has to do with the fact that there are around ~50 good quality drawables. Upon scrolling really fast, the app crashes. I feel as if I am mitigating most common issues with ListView and crashing such as using View Holders as well as only initiating the inflater once. • drawRect gets called on UIView subclass but not on UIViewController

  My code is working so far but I had to create a Class for the UIView. This is a bit inconvenient because I need to interact with the ViewController too. BTW, I did try [self setNeedsDisplay] on the ViewDidLoad of the UIViewController subclass file but it didn't work. Here's the code, which works on UIView Subclass but doesn't get called on a UIViewController one: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { UIColor *currentColor = [UIColor redColor]; CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); someNum = 1; CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, 30, 40); [self addDotImageX:30 andY:40]; CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, currentColor.CGColor); CGContextStrokePath(context); } Any ideas on what to try? BTW, this is a TabBar App. I know those can somehow block the calls to drawRect. The Tabs where created programatically, not through a Nib.   Not sure if what I am trying is possible or not, but I'd like to reuse a linq expression on an objects parent property. With the given classes: class Parent { int Id { get; set; } IList<Child> Children { get; set; } string Name { get; set; } } class Child{ int Id { get; set; } Parent Dad { get; set; } string Name { get; set; } } If i then have a helper Expression<Func<Parent,bool> ParentQuery() { Expression<Func<Parent,bool> q = p => p.Name=="foo"; } I then want to use this when querying data out for a child, along the lines of: using(var context=new Entities.Context) { var data=context.Child.Where(c => c.Name=="bar" && c.Dad.Where(ParentQuery)); } I know I can do that on child collections: using(var context=new Entities.Context) { var data=context.Parent.Where(p => p.Name=="foo" && p.Childen.Where(childQuery)); } but cant see any way to do this on a property that isnt a collection. This is just a simplified example, actually the ParentQuery will be more complex and I want to avoid having this repeated in multiple places as rather than just having 2 layers I'll have closer to 5 or 6, but all of them will need to reference the parent query to ensure security.

I have a list of reports with a hyperlink for each, which calls the web server, retrieves a PDF and then returns the PDF for the user to save or open: ASPX page: <table> <tr> <td> <a href="#" onclick="SubmitFormToOpenReport();">Open Report 1</a> <td> </tr> ... </table> ASP.Net: context.Response.Clear(); context.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=report.pdf"); context.Response.Charset = ""; context.Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"; context.Response.BinaryWrite(myReport); context.Response.Flush(); This works as expected, however I would like it to also refresh the page with an updated list. I am having trouble as the single request/response is returning the report. Is there a way to refresh the page as well? While there is a correct response, feel free to include answers which details alternative solutions/ideas for doing this.

From my domain object I have to invoke a Web Service Client and in order to get a reference to the Web Service client I do this: ApplicationContext context = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("client-ws.xml"); //b'cos I don't want to use WebApplicationContextUtils ProductServiceClient client = (ProductServiceClient) context.getBean("productClient"); .. client.find(prodID); //calls a Web Service .. However, I have concerns that looking up the client-ws.xml file and getting a reference to the ProductServiceClient bean is not efficient. I thought of getting it using WebApplicationContextUtils. However, I don't want my domain objects to have a dependency on the ServletContext (a web/control layer object) because WebApplicationContextUtils depends on ServletContext. What is the best way to get a reference to a spring bean in the backend layers? Thanks!

• Android ProgressDialog inside another dialog

  I'm working on a game using AndEngine, and I need to show the users the list of his Facebook friends. I've created my custom Adatper and after the loading finishes everything works great. I have a problem with the loading it self. The ListView is inside a custom dialog, since I don't really know how to create one using AndEngine, So inside this dialog, I'm running an AsyncTask to fetch the friends' info, in that AsyncTask I'm have a ProgressDialog. The problem is, the ProgressDialog shows up behind the dialog that contains the to-be list (which while loading, is just the title). I can see the ProgressDialog "peeking" behind that dialog.. Any Ideas?   I have to send out letters to certain clients and I have a standard letter that I need to use. I want to replace some of the text inside the body of the message with variables. Here is my maturity_letter models.py class MaturityLetter(models.Model): default = models.BooleanField(default=False, blank=True) body = models.TextField(blank=True) footer = models.TextField(blank=True) Now the body has a value of this: Dear [primary-firstname], AN IMPORTANT REMINDER… You have a [product] that is maturing on [maturity_date] with [financial institution]. etc Now I would like to replace everything in brackets with my template variables.   I read from < Essential ASP.NET with Examples in C# the following statement: Another useful property to know about is the static Current property of the HttpContext class. This property always points to the current instance of the HttpContext class for the request being serviced. This can be convenient if you are writing helper classes that will be used from pages or other pipeline classes and may need to access the context for whatever reason. By using the static Current property to retrieve the context, you can avoid passing a reference to it to helper classes. For example, the class shown in Listing 4-1 uses the Current property of the context to access the QueryString and print something to the current response buffer. Note that for this static property to be correctly initialized, the caller must be executing on the original request thread, so if you have spawned additional threads to perform work during a request, you must take care to provide access to the context class yourself. I am wondering about the root cause of the bold part, and one thing leads to another, here is my thoughts: We know that a process can have multiple threads. Each of these threads have their own stacks, respectively. These threads also have access to a shared memory area, the heap. The stack then, as I understand it, is kind of where all the context for that thread is stored. For a thread to access something in the heap it must use a pointer, and the pointer is stored on its stack. So when we make some cross-thread calls, we must make sure that all the necessary context info is passed from the caller thread's stack to the callee thread's stack.   Running Maven, Eclipse, and Weblogic, when I try to Run As Server onto my local server, I get this error: "Cannot find the declaration of element 'beans'. at mvc-dispatcher-servlet.xml" Then, when I go back into the xml, select all, copy, delete, and paste, error goes away and I'm able to run the web app just fine on the server. • Graph not following orientation

  so I am trying to draw some grid lines that in landscape go all the way down to the bottom, however when I switch to landscape the the graph doesn't follow and the grid lines go smaller. If I add the VFACE semantic then I get the following errors: error X5639: dcl usage+index: position,0 has already been specified for an output register error X4504: overlapping output semantics Why would this occur? I can't see why there would be too much data.

• 3DS Max exporting too many vertexes for model

  I have a sample model of a cube and a buddha downloaded from internet in 3ds format which I can load correctly into my program and view them without problem, but wanted to try and create my own model. I created a simple box mesh in 3ds max, and exported it as .3ds (Converted to mesh - export as .3ds) When inspecting the .3ds file with a hex viewer, I was expecting to see 8 vertexes and 12 faces declared (as the model I downloaded from internet). But what i found was that it listed 26 vertexes, and 12 faces! And when I try to load that file with my .3ds viewer, my parser isn't detecting the face block (0x4120), which is strange because it worked for other objects downloaded from internet. Do I have to set any special property in order to export a 3ds file with minimum vertexes and a vertex-index list?
