  • ListView - Index and Position Behavior upon restart()

    - by tunneling
I am using a ListView with an ArrayAdapter that holds objects. When I select an item, I am capturing the position and index of the selected item. If I scroll down prior to selection, the position and index represent the location of the item in the list. Selecting that items takes me to another activity. When I use the back button to return to the list, it seems that the ListView get's a new position and index for the visible items. As a result, I can't figure out how to reference the selected item during the restart() of the ListView Activity. I have tried to caputure position and index, but as I've said, they change upon returning to the Activity. Is my understanding of the ListView "redraw" correct? Does it renumber my items based on what's visible? -When in the life cycle is getView() called? Is there a way to force an update to the ListView so that my caputured index still points to the same object? Thanks, Jason

  • Activity ignore intent's extra fields

    - by ced
For example, In an ActivityA there's a button to create an Intent that will start ActivityB in a new task, like this: Intent i = new Intent(this, ActivityB.class); i.setData(Uri.parse("http://www.google.com")); long timestamp = System.currentTimeMillis(); i.putExtra("ts", timestamp); i.addFlag(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); Log.d(TAG, "Sending: " + timestamp); startActivity(i); Then in ActivityB's onResume() method, there's this code to check the timestamp: long timestamp = getIntent().getExtras().getLong("ts"); Log.d(TAG, "Receiving: " + timestamp); Now the first time I invoke ActivityB from ActivityA I get the following logs: Sending: 120006000 Receiving: 120006000 Then if I left ActivityB running in the background (by pressing Home button), and start ActivityA then invoke ActivityB again, the following is printed: Sending: 120013000 Receiving: 120006000 It seems although ActivityB is brought to front by the new Intent. The extra field in the intent is being left behind. Is this a bug or an intended behavior?

  • How to show own view in Spinner Widget instead of Text View?

    - by Janusz
I have a selection for some items using a spinner widget. At the moment the spinner will load a simple Textview and show the name of the item. It is possible to define an own view to show inside the spinner row? I would suspect it being similar to a custom List row. I simply want to show an individual icon left from the spinner text for each item in the list.

  • How do you make sure your pakcet is delivered to right client using public ip address

    - by TemporaryNickName
So private IP addresses are 192.168.00 ~ 192.168.255.255 or 10.0.0.0 or 172.16.0.0 ~ 172.31.255.255 If I accepted a client to my serversocket, I can get the client's remoteIp address by using socket.getremotesocketaddress(); But I suspect the IP address that I'm getting from this method is only the public IP address and it must have more than one client using same public IP as this one (one like you see when you go on to the website www.whatismyip.com). So if I want to make sure that my packet is delivered to the right person using some IP address or otherthing that uniquely identifies a person, what should I have to do?

  • BroadcastReciever doesn't show SMS not Send or Not delivered

    - by user1657111
    While using broadcastreciver for checking sms status, it shows the toast when sms is sent but shows nothing when sms is not sent or delivered (im testing it by putting an abrupt number). the code im using is the one ive seen the most on every site of checking sms delivery status. But my code is only showing the status when sms is sent successfully. Can any one get a hint of what am i doing wrong ? I hav this method in doInBackground() and so obviously im using AsyncTask. Thanks guys public void send_SMS(String list, String msg, AtaskClass task) { String SENT = "SMS_SENT"; String DELIVERED = "SMS_DELIVERED"; SmsManager sms = SmsManager.getDefault(); PendingIntent sentPI = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(this, 0, new Intent(SENT), 0); PendingIntent deliveredPI = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(this, 0, new Intent(DELIVERED), 0); //---when the SMS has been sent--- registerReceiver(new BroadcastReceiver(){ @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent arg1) { switch (getResultCode()) { case Activity.RESULT_OK: Toast.makeText(context, "SMS sent", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; case SmsManager.RESULT_ERROR_GENERIC_FAILURE: Toast.makeText(context, "Generic failure", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; case SmsManager.RESULT_ERROR_NO_SERVICE: Toast.makeText(context, "No service", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; case SmsManager.RESULT_ERROR_NULL_PDU: Toast.makeText(context, "Null PDU", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; case SmsManager.RESULT_ERROR_RADIO_OFF: Toast.makeText(context, "Radio off", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; } } }, new IntentFilter(SENT)); //---when the SMS has been delivered--- registerReceiver(new BroadcastReceiver(){ @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent arg1) { switch (getResultCode()) { case Activity.RESULT_OK: Toast.makeText(context, "SMS delivered", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; case Activity.RESULT_CANCELED: Toast.makeText(context, "SMS not delivered", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); break; } } }, new IntentFilter(DELIVERED)); StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(list,","); int count= st.countTokens(); int i =1; count = 1; while(st.hasMoreElements()) { // PendingIntent pi = PendingIntent.getActivity(this,0,new Intent(this, SMS.class),0); String tempMobileNumber = (String)st.nextElement(); //SmsManager sms = SmsManager.getDefault(); sms.sendTextMessage(tempMobileNumber, null, msg , sentPI, deliveredPI); Double cCom = ((double)i/count) * 100; int j = cCom.intValue(); task.doProgress(j); i++; count ++; } // class ends }

  • SearchView - Choose between two target Activities according to the query result

    - by vitorgreati
My application has to do the following: - if the user enters a query that matches exactly an object in my database, a Activity that shows this object should appear; - if the query doesn't match an exact object, a ArrayList with related objects will be returned and an Activity will display this list. So, as I'm using a SearchView on my ActionBar, I want to know how to open the right Activity based on the result of the query, something like this: if(objectFound) openActivityThatShowsThisObject(); else openActivityWithRelatedResults(); I saw in other question that I could use a facade Activity, but I don't know if that is a good approach. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

  • What could possibly be causing this NPE in onCreate?

    - by Adam Johns
I am getting an NPE in onCreate of the following file (MySubActivity): public class MySubActivity extends MySuperActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); myTextView.setText(getResources().getString(R.string.myString)); } } MySuperActivity: public class MySuperActivity extends Activity { protected TextView myTextView; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.my_layout); myTextView = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.myTextViewid); } } The strange thing is that I have never seen this crash while testing the app. The page works fine when I test it. However I got a crash report from Google notifying me of the crash. I cannot reproduce it, and I have no idea under what scenario this crash could happen. Seeing as how it works for me, the resource ids and string names etc. must be correct. The only thing that came across my mind was that maybe the user had their phone set to a different language, so it couldn't properly pull the resources. However, there are default resources for all of them, and I tested changing the language of my emulator and it didn't crash. Any ideas?

  • Getting specific values with regex

    - by David
I need to knowingly isolate each row of the vCard and get its value. For instance, I want to get "5555" from X-CUSTOMFIELD. So far, my thoughts are: "X-CUSTOMFIELD;\d+" I have been looking at some tutorials and I am a little confused with what function to use? What would my regex above return? Would it give me the whole line or just the numerical part (5555)? I was thinking I i get the whole row, I can use substring to get the digits? BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:Last;First; FN:First Last TEL;HOME;VOICE:111111 TEL;MOBILE;VOICE:222222 X-CUSTOMFIELD;5555 END:VCARD

  • How to get ListView to grow to the size of content

    - by Jared
So I have a fairly complex activity the parent being a linearlayout with a table with some basic info and buttons. Then a couple listviews that the user can add items to. So these listviews grow more and more as the user uses the app. The problem I'm running into is the Linearlayout is bigger then the resolution of the screen and so it needs to scroll. So the scrolling doesn't work on the Listviews. I've tried playing with changing the layout_height of the listview and its child element with no success. Is there a way to make these couple listviews expand out to the amount of children? Or am I going about this all wrong? If so what other controls can I use? I'm open to any ideas. I really just don't know how to go about this. Thanks

  • replacement for clock app

    - by gcb
the least thing i like on the nexus one is the useless app it runs when on the desktop dock. I already wasted a good day searching for the 3 topics below and failed to find anything. Is there any replacement for it already available? Is there source code for the original one? Is there documentation on how to replace them?
