  • Document Management System - Architectural Design Question

    - by Aspirant
I need to design an in-house server-based system that will store hundreds of thousands of files (images, spreadsheets, text documents) with users accessing metadata as well as files remotely. What are my options? ASP.Net MVC or WinForms with WCF service? I am really stuck here because I am a newbie. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    - by john
i have a separate class for each of my database entities and when i create an object of my class to reference the properties of a class it returns a circular reference which contains properties of other entities too that are related via FK ... to remove the circular reference i want to first make a copy of the object through "context proxy object" copy and then get the primitive, complex, arrayEnumerable types of that object and strip off these types from the object and then the object get returned by web service....

  • What is a good metaphor for c memory management?

    - by fsmc
I'm trying to find a good metaphor to explain memory allocation, initialization and freeing in c to a non technical audience. I've heard pass-by-reference/value talked about quite well with postal service usage, but not so much for allocation/deallocation. So for I've thought about using the idea of renting a space might work, but I wonder if the SO crew can provide something better.

  • Creating our own APIs

    - by Markii
We need a bunch of APIs for our service and are looking at the job as being quite tedious for starting from scratch because we need strict user restrictions such as max queries and usage statistics. Are there any pre-made services or scripts for this already?

  • Can I use the SharePoint 2010 SQL Database through SharePoint from my App?

    - by Michael Stum
I wonder if there is a supported way to access the SharePoint 2010 SQL Server through an API? I'm not talking about modifying any SharePoint Database directly (I know that that is still unsupported), but I'd like to store some data that my application needs, and instead of asking the user to enter a Connection String, I'd prefer to create my own database on the SQL Server that SharePoint uses. I think I could use the new Service Application stuff, but that seems a bit overkill?

  • What is best practice in converting XML to Java object?

    - by newbie
I need to convert XML data to Java objects. What would be best practice to convert this XML data to object? Idea is to fetch data via a web service (it doesn't use WSDL, just HTTP GET queries, so I cannot use any framework) and answers are in XML. What would be best practice to handle this situation?

  • Where to place logic in a rich domain model

    - by Fino
I have a model "news item" which contains text, image etc to display as latest news on several pages in a website. This "news item" can also be posted to Twitter or Facebook. Is it clean to implement a method post inside the news item model and inject the different post implementations as a strategy? Or is it better to have a separate application service for this? Thanks

  • SQL and/or LINQ query for determining daily increases in viewers

    - by Gio
    We're montioring usage of a certain resources by monitoring users logins (We can see user logins growing daily). After filtering out repeat inter day logins for users, we'd like to track the # of users using the service each day, and then using that info to determine overall incremental gains for each calendar day. Our table is pretty simple: class ServiceLogin { String login; DateTime loginTime; }
