  • log4j properties file: how to configure ?

    Is it right that the procedure of using log4j looks like this: 1) put a .properties file somewhere in a project folder 2) in an initialization method, that runs only once, invoke PropertyConfigurator.configure("path_to_file"); 3) in every method we need to use logger we define a static logger variable and simply invoke getLogger(class) I'm asking you this: what if the initialization module is not defined? Where to put "log4j.properties" file so that we wouldn't need to invoke propertyconfigurator.configure at all, or if it's not possible, is it ok to invoke PropertyConfigurator.configure("path_to_file") in every method that uses a logger?

  • What is a service provider?

    Sorry if this is a silly question but I am a C developer who just happen to be in a meeting with a bunch of .NET guys and over heard their conversation. They were sketching out a design and constantly talk of service provider, services and spring. Instead of looking silly by asking them, I just decided to post here. BTW, I am doing device driver development (have been for more than 10 years using C) and NEVER heard of service provider.

  • Use cellular emulator with a REAL WinMo device?

    I don't whether this is even possible which is obviously why I am asking this question :) Is it in any way possible to leverage functionality the Cellular Emulator on a REAL PHYSICAL device?? :) So when I test it on my device, I really do not have to send real SMS(s) to test my MessageInteceptor. On a sidenote, why does MessageInteceptor fails after several messages to intercept messages?? :( Thanx a lot in advance :)

This is the editEmployee Action controller, so while edit page is displayed i want to display a selectvalue in dropdownbox,since "SelectList" takes 3 parameters one for value,one for text and other is for selected value, here i'm not getting what should i pass in 3rd parameter, coz its asking an object for selected value.   • What does the Microsoft.WebApplication.targets import do in VS 2010 web application projects?

    Visual Studio 2010 seems to insist on having this import in web application projects <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath32)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" /> What does this import give us and is it really required? On a side note if you remove this import with a text editor Visual studio will re-add it. The reason i am asking is when the project is compiled on a build server that target does nor exists because visual studio is not installed.

    Are there any downsides to UPX-ing my 32-bit Python 2.6.4 development environment EXE/PYD/DLL files? The reason I'm asking is that I frequently use a custom PY2EXE script that UPX's copies of these files on every build. Yes, I could get fancy and try to cache UPXed files, but I think a simpler, safer, and higher performance solution would be for me to just UPX my Python 2.6.4 directory once and be done with it.     Hi! I'm trying to set the label backgroundColor of my UITableViewCells and it does absolutely nothing at all. I wonder if there's another way of doing this, so I'm asking! I tried this: cell.textLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor]; cell.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor]; And it doesn't work, anything else? Thanks!

The reason why I ask is that I hate having 3 or more windows of the same program minimized on my taskbar using the same icon. It has made me all but forget about textmate (which imho still beats netbeans for the little things) What do you think is the one awesome netbeans feature I should know about, and more importantly why and how do I use it?   • How can I obtain a list of modified files within a 'changeset' range from team foundation server thr

    I'm trying to create a tool which will help my team perform code reviews on a more regular basis without it's usual massive overhead. At the moment the manual process involves using Team Foundation Sidekicks to identify the Changesets and then exporting that to excel to filter the results to find which items need to be reviewed (e.g. code files). I've heard mention of using a TFS API, but found very little help online possibly because I was asking google 'the wrong questions'.
