I have learned quite a bit browsing through Hidden Features
of C# and was surprised when I couldn't find something
similar for VB.NET.
So what are some of its hidden or lesser known features?

Hi all, I have created a basic chart in VB.NET (VS 2008) and it is working good, but I would like to label the axies of the chart. The method "AxisLabel" is not what I am looking for. I want to put the word "Dollars" vertically on the far left hand side of my chart (just left of the numbers labeling the "y" axis) and the word "Months" horizontally at the bottom of the chart but above the legend (just below the numbers labeling the "x" axis). Check the picture out...
Hi,
I am looking for ways to implement custom user-roles in windows application with vb.net. I got a database table called Roles with Administrator and User entries. User cannot see some of the form data. In ASP.NET MVC we can do like.
[Authorize(Roles = "Administrator")]
public function GetAccount() as Array
End Function
If it could be done this way that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I want to detect if a window form is open and if it is then I would like to bring it in front rather than opening it again.
I know I need a form collection for this but I want to know if there is a built in form collection that holds all the forms in VB.NET or I need to implement my own.
Thank you.
In VB, i use SetWindowPos API. It makes form on top of other windows, but the form lost focus. so, i use mouse_event API. I force the position of mouse to click somewhere in the form.
Anyways, I need any help to keep form on top and its focus of other windows.

I am an experienced C/C++/C# programmer who has just gotten into VB.NET. I generally use CType (and CInt, CBool, CStr) for casts because it is less characters and was the first way of casting which I was exposed to, but I am aware of DirectCast and TryCast as well.
Simply, are there any differences (effect of cast, performance, etc.) between DirectCast and CType? I understand the idea of TryCast.

In order to return a value from a VB.NET function one can assign a value to the "Functions Name" or use "return value."
I sometimes see these inter-mixed in the same function. Personally, I prefer the return.
My question is, what is the internal difference, if any, between the two?

I have a dictionary collection as bleow:
mydic.addvalue(key1, val1)
mydic.addvalue(key2, val1)
mydic.addvalue(key3, val1)
mydic.addvalue(key4, val2)
