  • Where should I declare my CDI resources?

    - by Laird Nelson
JSR-299 (CDI) introduces the (unfortunately named) concept of a resource: http://docs.jboss.org/weld/reference/1.0.0/en-US/html/resources.html#d0e4373 You can think of a resource in this nomenclature as a bridge between the Java EE 6 brand of dependency injection (@EJB, @Resource, @PersistenceContext and the like) and CDI's brand of dependency injection. The general gist seems to be that somewhere (and this will be the root of my question) you declare what amounts to a bridge class: it contains fields annotated both with Java EE's @EJB or @PersistenceContext or @Resource annotations and with CDI's @Produces annotations. The net effect is that Java EE 6 injects a persistence context, say, where it's called for, and CDI recognizes that injected PersistenceContext as a source for future injections down the line (handled by @Inject). My question is: what is the community's consensus--or is there one--on: what this bridge class should be named where this bridge class should live whether it's best to localize all this stuff into one class or make several of them ...? Left to my own devices, I was thinking of declaring a single class called CDIResources and using that as the One True Place to link Java EE's DI with CDI's DI. Many examples do something similar, but I'm not clear on whether they're "just" examples or whether that's a good way to do it. Thanks.

  • showing the breadcrumb trail in the menu

    - by strangeloops
    I have a global menu and local menu for the products. I would like to highlight 'our products' link when I am showing the products and also highlight the name of the product and its subpages in the local menu so the highlighted links will work as the breadcrumbs. How can I do this with jquery and codeigniter or just jquery. Here is the code of the local menu: <ul id="accordion"> <li class="pm"><h2><?php echo anchor('/products/thassos_wonder', 'Thassos Wonder+');?></h2> <ul class="product_menu"> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/thassos_wonder', 'Thassos Wonder+');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/thassos_wonder_advantages', 'Thassos Wonder+ Advantages');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('products/thassos_wonder_associated_products', 'Associated Products');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/thassos_wonder_brochure', 'Download TW+ Brochure');?></h2> </ul> </li> <li class="pm"><h2><?php echo anchor('/products/marble_wonder', 'Marble Wonder+');?></h2> <ul class="product_menu" id="mwmenu"> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/marble_wonder', 'Marble Wonder+');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/marble_wonder_advantages', 'Marble Wonder+ Advantages');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('products/marble_wonder_associated_products', 'Associated Products');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/marble_wonder_brochure', 'Download MW+ Brochure');?></h2> </ul> </li> <li class="pm"><h2><?php echo anchor('/products/polybond', 'Poly Bond+');?></h2> <ul class="product_menu" id="pbmenu"> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/polybond', 'Poly Bond+');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/polybond_advantages', 'PolyBond+ Advantages');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('products/polybond_areas_of_applications', 'Areas of Applications');?></h2> <h2><?php echo anchor('/products/polybond_brochure', 'Download Polybond+ Brochure');?></h2> </ul> </li> Here is the jquery code for the local menu: $(function() { var pathname = location.pathname; var highlight; //highlight home if(pathname == "/"){ highlight = $('ul#accordion > li:first > a:first'); $('a.active').parents('li').addClass('active'); } else { var path = pathname.substring(1); if (path) highlight = $('ul#accordion a[href$="' + path + '"]'); } highlight.attr('class', 'active'); // hide 2nd, 3rd, ... level menus $('ul#accordion ul').hide(); // show child menu on click $('ul#accordion > li > a.product_menu').click(function() { //minor improvement $(this).siblings('ul').toggle("slow"); return false; }); //open to current group (highlighted link) by show all parent ul's $('a.active').parents('ul').show(); //if you only have a 2 level deep navigation you could //use this instead //$('a.selected').parents("ul").eq(0).show(); }); Still learning jquery so type of help would be appreciated.   • flash going crazy when adding two functions

    - by Malfist
I'm adding these two functions to a parent class: public function get topShot():ShotGlass { return _topShot; } public function get bottomShot():ShotGlass { return _bottomShot; } The calls is called BaseEntry and is a subclass of MovieClip. Once I add these two functions, I get "The class 'class' must subclass 'flash.display.MovieClip' since it is linked to a library symbol of that type" on all the subclasses. What's going on?

  • ISerializable and backward compatibility

    - by pierusch
hello I have to work an an old application that used binaryFormatter to serialize application data into filestream (say in a file named "data.oldformat") without any optimizazion the main class has been marked with attribute <serializable()>public MainClass ....... end class and the serialization code dim b as new binaryformatter b.serialize(mystream, mymainclass) In an attempt to optimize the serialization/deserialization process I simply made the class implement the ISerializable interface and wrote some optimized serialization routines <serializable()>public MainClass implements ISerializable ....... end class The optimization works really well but I MUST find a way to reatrive the data inside the old files for backward compatibility. How can I do that?? Pierluigi

  • How to save many to many fields by using an auto complete text box

    - by iHeartDucks
If I have two models like class Author(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) title = models.CharField(max_length=3, choices=TITLE_CHOICES) birth_date = models.DateField(blank=True, null=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Book(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) authors = models.ManyToManyField(Author) I can render the book form using a model form like this class BookForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = Book widgets = { 'authors' : TextInput() } The authors fields is now rendered as a text box and I want to use an auto complete (where I can enter multiple authors) text box to populate the field. I am having a hard time to understand how I can save the authors in view function? I am thinking of using a hidden field to record all the author id's but I am having a hard time figuring out how to save it on the postback.

  • Django - Form validation error

    - by Igor G.
Hello, I have a model like this: class Entity(models.Model): entity_name = models.CharField(max_length=100) entity_id = models.CharField(max_length=30, primary_key=True) entity_parent = models.CharField(max_length=100, null=True) photo_id = models.CharField(max_length=100, null=True) username = models.CharField(max_length=100, null=True) date_matched_on = models.CharField(max_length=100, null=True) status = models.CharField(max_length=30, default="Checked In") def __unicode__(self): return self.entity_name class Meta: app_label = 'match' ordering = ('entity_name','date_matched_on') verbose_name_plural='Entities' I also have a view like this: def photo_match(request): ''' performs an update in the db when a user chooses a photo ''' form = EntityForm(request.POST) form.save() And my EntityForm looks like this: class EntityForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = Entity My template's form returns a POST back to the view with the following values: {u'username': [u'admin'], u'entity_parent': [u'PERSON'], u'entity_id': [u'152097'], u'photo_id': [u'2200734'], u'entity_name': [u'A.J. McLean'], u'status': [u'Checked Out'], u'date_matched_on': [u'5/20/2010 10:57 AM']} And form.save() throws this error: Exception in photo_match: The Entity could not be changed because the data didn't validate. I have been trying to figure out why this is happening, but cannot pinpoint the exact problem. I can change my Entities in the admin interface just fine. If anybody has a clue about this I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Igor

  • DataBinding in ResourceDictionary

    - by Vishal
Hi All, I've a ResourceDictionary. In which I've defined all the commands. <ResourceDictionary x:Class="HTCmds" x:ClassModifier="public" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:commands="clr-namespace:Commands;assembly=UIInfrastructure" xmlns:r="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Windows.Controls.Ribbon;assembly=RibbonControlsLibrary" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:Commands" xmlns:p="clr-namespace:PresentationModels"> <commands:CommandReference x:Key="CopyCommandReference" Command="{Binding Path=CopyCommand}"/> <commands:CommandReference x:Key="ExitCommandReference" Command="{Binding Path=ExitCommand}"/> </ResourceDictionary> I've merged this ResourceDictionary in a Windows class. <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="../Commands/HTCmds.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> This window class has DataContext property set to Commands.cs class that contains all the commands and their handlers. Now, How do I bind the commands defined in ResourceDictionary with commands in DataContext of Windows class? Thanks & Regards, Vishal.

  • Correct OOP design without getters?

    - by kane77
I recently read that getters/setters are evil and I have to say it makes sense, yet when I started learning OOP one of the first things I learned was "Encapsulate your fields" so I learned to create class give it some fields, create getters, setters for them and create constructor where I initialize these fields. And every time some other class needs to manipulate this object (or for instance display it) I pass it the object and it manipulate it using getters/setters. I can see problems with this approach. But how to do it right? For instance displaying/rendering object that is "data" class - let's say Person, that has name and date of birth. Should the class have method for displaying the object where some Renderer would be passed as an argument? Wouldn't that violate principle that class should have only one purpose (in this case store state) so it should not care about presentation of this object. Can you suggest some good resources where best practices in OOP design are presented? I'm planning to start a project in my spare time and I want it to be my learning project in correct OOP design..

  • LINQ 2 SQL: Partial Classes

    - by Refracted Paladin
I need to set the ConnectionString for my DataContext's based on an AppSetting. I am trying to do this by creating a Partial Class for each DataContext. The below is what I have so far and I am wondering if I am overlooking something? Specifically, am I dealing with my DataContext's correctly(disposing, staleness, etc)? Doing it this way will I have issues with Updates and Inserts? Is the file BLLAspnetdb.cs useful or neccessary in the least or should all of that be in the generated partial class AspnetdbDataContext file? In short, is this an acceptable structure or will this cause me issues as I elaborate it? dbml File Name = Aspnetdb.dbml Partial Class File Name = Aspnetdb.cs partial class AspnetdbDataContext { public static bool IsDisconnectedUser { get { return Convert.ToBoolean(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["IsDisconnectedUser"]) == true; } } public static AspnetdbDataContext New { get { var cs = IsDisconnectedUser ? • Can I provide nil for the -dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier: method?

    - by mystify
dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier: Returns a reusable table-view cell object located by its identifier. (UITableViewCell *)dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:(NSString *)identifier Parameters identifier A string identifying the cell object to be reused. By default, a reusable cell's identifier is its class name, but you can change it to any arbitrary value. Ok so if by default it's the class name, why should I put much brain force into thinking about an identifier? Could I provide just nil? Would it then use the class name? Or what did they try to say here? Must I make an NSString with the class name by myself and provide it as identifier?

  • Overriding LINQ extension methods

    - by Ruben Vermeersch
Is there a way to override extension methods (provide a better implementation), without explicitly having to cast to them? I'm implementing a data type that is able to handle certain operations more efficiently than the default extension methods, but I'd like to keep the generality of IEnumerable. That way any IEnumerable can be passed, but when my class is passed in, it should be more efficient. As a toy example, consider the following: // Compile: dmcs -out:test.exe test.cs using System; namespace Test { public interface IBoat { void Float (); } public class NiceBoat : IBoat { public void Float () { Console.WriteLine ("NiceBoat floating!"); } } public class NicerBoat : IBoat { public void Float () { Console.WriteLine ("NicerBoat floating!"); } public void BlowHorn () { Console.WriteLine ("NicerBoat: TOOOOOT!"); } } public static class BoatExtensions { public static void BlowHorn (this IBoat boat) { Console.WriteLine ("Patched on horn for {0}: TWEET", boat.GetType().Name); } } public class TestApp { static void Main (string [] args) { IBoat niceboat = new NiceBoat (); IBoat nicerboat = new NicerBoat (); Console.WriteLine ("## Both should float:"); niceboat.Float (); nicerboat.Float (); // Output: // NiceBoat floating! // NicerBoat floating! Console.WriteLine (); Console.WriteLine ("## One has an awesome horn:"); niceboat.BlowHorn (); nicerboat.BlowHorn (); // Output: // Patched on horn for NiceBoat: TWEET // Patched on horn for NicerBoat: TWEET Console.WriteLine (); Console.WriteLine ("## That didn't work, but it does when we cast:"); (niceboat as NiceBoat).BlowHorn (); (nicerboat as NicerBoat).BlowHorn (); // Output: // Patched on horn for NiceBoat: TWEET // NicerBoat: TOOOOOT! Console.WriteLine (); Console.WriteLine ("## Problem is: I don't always know the type of the objects."); Console.WriteLine ("## How can I make it use the class objects when the are"); Console.WriteLine ("## implemented and extension methods when they are not,"); Console.WriteLine ("## without having to explicitely cast?"); } } } Is there a way to get the behavior from the second case, without explict casting? Can this problem be avoided?

  • Limiting choices from an intermediary ManyToMany junction table in Django

    - by Matthew Rankin
Background I've created three Django models—Inventory, SalesOrder, and Invoice—to model items in inventory, sales orders for those items, and invoices for a particular sales order. Each sales order can have multiple items, so I've used an intermediary junction table—SalesOrderItems—using the through argument for the ManyToManyField. Also, partial billing of a sales orders is allowed, so I've created a ForeignKey in the Invoice model related to the SalesOrder model, so that a particular sales order can have multiple invoices. Here's where I deviate from what I've normally seen. Instead of relating the Invoice model to the Item model via a ManyToManyField, I've related the Invoice model to the SalesOrderItem intermediary junction table through the intermediary junction table InvoiceItem. I've done this because it better models reality—our invoices are tied to sales orders and can only include items that are tied to that sales order as opposed to any item in inventory. I will admit that it does seem strange having the intermediary junction table of a ManyToManyField related to the intermediary junction table of another ManyToManyField. Question How can I limit the choices available for the invoice_items in the Invoice model to just the sales_order_items of the SalesOrder model for that particular Invoice? (I tried using limit_choices_to= {'sales_order': self.invoice.sales_order}) as part of the item = models.ForeignKey(SalesOrderItem) in the InvoiceItem model, but that didn't work. Am I correct in thinking that limiting the choices for the invoice_items should be handled in the model instead of in a form? Code class Item(models.Model): item_num = models.SlugField(unique=True) default_price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10, decimal_places=2, blank=True, null=True) class SalesOrderItem(models.Model): item = models.ForeignKey(Item) sales_order = models.ForeignKey('SalesOrder') unit_price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10, decimal_places=2) quantity = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10, decimal_places=4) class SalesOrder(models.Model): customer = models.ForeignKey(Party) so_num = models.SlugField(max_length=40, unique=True) sales_order_items = models.ManyToManyField(Item, through=SalesOrderItem) class InvoiceItem(models.Model): item = models.ForeignKey(SalesOrderItem) invoice = models.ForeignKey('Invoice') unit_price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10, decimal_places=2) quantity = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10, decimal_places=4) class Invoice(models.Model): invoice_num = models.SlugField(max_length=25) sales_order = models.ForeignKey(SalesOrder) invoice_items = models.ManyToManyField(SalesOrderItem, through='InvoiceItem')

  • css positioning

    - by bsreekanth
Hello, I have uploaded a part of my screen below (link: http://yfrog.com/0d30127380p) It is part of a forum, so there are elements above and below it. The "Response Req.. Date" has a label, a date picker, and two drop down select control for time. I tried setting the width of the datepicker element, and a right margin so that the time selectors would position next to it. But it always sit below it. I'm not good in css positioning, so any suggestion would be highly appreciated. <div class="wrapper "> <label for="responseRequiredDate"> Response Required Date <span class="indicator">*</span> </label> <input type="hidden" name="responseRequiredDate" value="struct" /><div class="datetimepicker"> <div class="datePicker"> </div> <script> ...</script> <div class="timepicker"><select .... </div> </div> the date picker insert a script tag, would that cause a problem. probably not.

  • iPhone app running in Instruments fails with unrecognized selector

    - by Mark Smith
I have an app that appears to run without problems in normal use. The Clang Static Analyzer reports no problems either. When I try to run it in Instruments, it fails with an unrecognized selector exception. The offending line is a simple property setter of the form: self.bar = baz; To figure out what's going on, I added an NSLog() call immediately above it: NSLog(@"class = %@ responds = %d", [self class], [self respondsToSelector:@selector(setBar:)]); self.bar = baz; On the emulator (without Instruments) and on a device, this shows exactly what I'd expect: class = Foo responds = 1 When running under Instruments, I get: class = Foo responds = 0 I'm stumped as to what could cause this. Perhaps a different memory location is getting tromped on when it's in the Instruments environment? Can anyone suggest how I might debug this?

  • How do you set DEBUG or RELEASE builds in Visual Studio 2008 (VB.net)

    - by GregH
This has been driving me crazy...I have VS 2008 and am developing vb.net applications. How do I specify if I am building a debug or release version? The description I found of how to do this on the Microsoft site (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wx0123s5.aspx) don't seem to be accurate. This should be pretty straight forward shouldn't it? It seems that a friend of mine that does C# development says it is easy in his environment. Are the VS environments different between C# and VB?

  • Best way to handle multiple tables to replace one big table in Rails? (e.g. 'Books1', 'Books2', etc.

    - by mikep
Hello, I've decided to use multiple tables for an entity (e.g. Books1, Books2, Books3, etc.), instead of just one main table which could end up having a lot of rows (e.g. just Books). I'm doing this to try and to avoid a potential future performance drop that could come with having too many rows in one table. With that, I'm looking for a good way to handle this in Rails, mainly by trying to avoid loading a bunch of unused associations. (I know that I could use a partition for this, but, for now, I've decided to go the 'multiple tables' route.) Each user has their books placed into a specific table. The actual book table is chosen when the user is created, and all of their books go into the same table. I'm going to split the adds across the tables. The goal is to try and keep each table pretty much even -- but that's a different issue. One thing I don't particularly want to have is a bunch of unused associations in the User class. Right now, it looks like I'd have to do the following: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :books1, :books2, :books3, :books4, :books5 end class Books1 < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end class Books2 < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end class Books3 < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end I'm assuming that the main performance hit would come in terms of memory and possibly some method call overhead for each User object, since it has to load all of those associations, which in turn creates all of those nice, dynamic model accessor methods like User.find_by_. But for each specific user, only one of the book tables would be usable/applicable, since all of a user's books are stored in the same table. So, only one of the associations would be in use at any time and any other has_many :bookX association that was loaded would be a waste. For example, with a user.id of 2, I'd only need books3.find_by_author('Author'), but the way I'm thinking of setting this up, I'd still have access to Books1..n. I don't really know Ruby/Rails does internally with all of those has_many associations though, so maybe it's not so bad. But right now I'm thinking that it's really wasteful, and that there may just be a better, more efficient way of doing this. So, a few questions: 1) Is there's some sort of special Ruby/Rails methodology that could be applied to this 'multiple tables to represent one entity' scheme? Are there any 'best practices' for this? 2) Is it really bad to have so many unused has_many associations for each object? Is there a better way to do this? 3) Does anyone have any advice on how to abstract the fact that there's multiple book tables behind a single books model/class? For example, so I can call books.find_by_author('Author') instead of books3.find_by_author('Author'). Thank you!

  • C# Static constructors design problem - need to specify parameter

    - by Neil Dobson
I have a re-occurring design problem with certain classes which require one-off initialization with a parameter such as the name of an external resource such as a config file. For example, I have a corelib project which provides application-wide logging, configuration and general helper methods. This object could use a static constructor to initialize itself but it need access to a config file which it can't find itself. I can see a couple of solutions, but both of these don't seem quite right: 1) Use a constructor with a parameter. But then each object which requires corelib functionality should also know the name of the config file, so this has to be passed around the application. Also if I implemented corelib as a singleton I would also have to pass the config file as a parameter to the GetInstance method, which I believe is also not right. 2) Create a static property or method to pass through the config file or other external parameter. I have sort of used the latter method and created a Load method which initializes an inner class which it passes through the config file in the constructor. Then this inner class is exposed through a public property MyCoreLib. public static class CoreLib { private static MyCoreLib myCoreLib; public static void Load(string configFile) { myCoreLib = new MyCoreLib(configFile); } public static MyCoreLib MyCoreLib { get { return myCoreLib; } } public class MyCoreLib { private string configFile; public MyCoreLib(string configFile) { this.configFile = configFile; } public void DoSomething() { } } } I'm still not happy though. The inner class is not initialized until you call the load method, so that needs to be considered anywhere the MyCoreLib is accessed. Also there is nothing to stop someone calling the load method again. Any other patterns or ideas how to accomplish this?

  • Using a custom form in a modelformset factory?

    - by jamida
I'd like to be able to use a customized form in a modelformset_factory. For example: models.py class Author(models.Model): name = models.CharField() address = models.CharField() class AuthorForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = Author views.py def test_render(request): myModelFormset = modelformset_factory(Author) items = Author.objects.all() formsetInstance = myModelFormset(queryset = items) return render_to_response('template',locals()) The above code works just fine, but note I'm NOT using AuthorForm. The question is how can I get the modelformset_factory to use the AuthorForm (which I plan to customize later) instead of making a default Author form?

  • How to use an OSGi service from a web application?

    - by Jaime Soriano
I'm trying to develop a web application that is going to be launched from a HTTP OSGi service, this application needs to use other OSGi service (db4o OSGi), for what I need a reference to a BundleContext. I have tried two different approaches to get the OSGi context in the web application: Store the BundleContext of the Activator in an static field of a class that the web service can import and use. Use FrameworkUtil.getBundle(this.getClass()).getBundleContext() (being this an instance of MainPage, a class of the web application). I think that first option is completely wrong, but anyway I'm having problems with the class loaders in both options. In the second one it raises a LinkageError: java.lang.LinkageError: loader constraint violation: loader (instance of org/apache/felix/framework/ModuleImpl$ModuleClassLoader) previously initiated loading for a different type with name "com/db4o/ObjectContainer" Also tried with Equinox and I have a similar error: java.lang.LinkageError: loader constraint violation: loader (instance of org/eclipse/osgi/internal/baseadaptor/DefaultClassLoader) previously initiated loading for a different type with name "com/db4o/ObjectContainer" The code that provokes the exception is: ServiceReference reference = context.getServiceReference(Db4oService.class.getName()); Db4oService service = (Db4oService)context.getService(reference); database = service.openFile("foo.db"); The exception is raised in the last line, database class is ObjectContainer, if I change the type of this variable to Object exception is not raised, but It's not useful as an Object :)

  • How to do custom display and auto-select in django admin multi-select field?

    - by rsp
I'm new to django, so please feel free to tell me if I'm doing this incorrectly. I am trying to create a django ordering system. My order model: class Order(models.Model): ordered_by = models.ForeignKey(User, limit_choices_to = {'groups__name': "Managers", 'is_active': 1}) in my admin ANY user can enter an order, but ordered_by must be someone in the group "managers" (this is the behavior I want). Now, if the logged in user happens to be a manager I want it to automatically fill in the field with that logged in user. I have accomplished this by: class OrderAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): def formfield_for_foreignkey(self, db_field, request, **kwargs): if db_field.name == "ordered_by": if request.user in User.objects.filter(groups__name='Managers', is_active=1): kwargs["initial"] = request.user.id kwargs["empty_label"] = "-------------" return db_field.formfield(**kwargs) return super(OrderAdmin, self).formfield_for_foreignkey(db_field, request, **kwargs) This also works, but the admin puts the username as the display for the select box by default. It would be nice to have the user's real name listed. I was able to do it with this: class UserModelMultipleChoiceField(forms.ModelMultipleChoiceField): def label_from_instance(self, obj): return obj.first_name + " " + obj.last_name class OrderForm(forms.ModelForm): ordered_by = UserModelChoiceField(queryset=User.objects.all().filter(groups__name='Managers', is_active=1)) class OrderAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): form = OrderForm My problem: I can't to both of these. If I put in the formfield_for_foreignkey function and add form = OrderForm to use my custom "UserModelChoiceField", it puts the nice name display but it won't select the currently logged in user. I'm new to this, but my guess is that when I use UserModelChoiceField it "erases" the info passed in via formfield_for_foreignkey. Do I need to use the super() function somehow to pass on this info? or something completely different?

  • How do I get the member to which my custom attribute was applied?

    - by Sarah Vessels
I'm creating a custom attribute in C# and I want to do different things based on whether the attribute is applied to a method versus a property. At first I was going to do new StackTrace().GetFrame(1).GetMethod() in my custom attribute constructor to see what method called the attribute constructor, but now I'm unsure what that will give me. What if the attribute was applied to a property? Would GetMethod() return a MethodBase instance for that property? Is there a different way of getting the member to which an attribute was applied in C#? [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Method | AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = true)] public class MyCustomAttribute : Attribute Update: okay, I might have been asking the wrong question. From within a custom attribute class, how do I get the member (or the class containing the member) to which my custom attribute was applied? Aaronaught suggested against walking up the stack to find the class member to which my attribute was applied, but how else would I get this information from within the constructor of my attribute?
