Hey guys. If you haven't already seen, Google has the ability to add a custom background image (for better or worse) and I was wondering how to achieve the same fade-in-on-load effect using jQuery.
Any ideas?
How to give style to list item only if item has another list inside otherwise style should not apply? using css only.
See example here http://jsbin.com/udora
I want to remove arrows from all other items except "Articles" and "Pitching Past the 7th Inning"
I realized it's not possible with css any working jquery solution with demo?
I'm keen to test out html offline storage and caching with a view to developing a prototype to show off the offline web application capabilities of html5.
I've found some webkit-specific samples, but I'm battling to find any decent code samples that even work at all in Firefox 3.6
For a sample, I'd be happy with something that works with the following:
Our company uses jquery extensively so I'd prefer samples that use that library or pure javascript.
It should at least work on firefox (3.6+ is fine)
Can anyone point me to some links that provide some guidance and code samples?
I am attempting to use coffeescript/jQuery to do the following:
1) Retrieve all the 'topics' displayed in the html (seen below)
2) Hide all the topics from display except for the first 5 listed.
I tried to do the following but is not working
//Retrieve the entire list of and hide all but the first 5 topics in the list
$(".topics .topic")[5..-1].hide()
Can someone advise me on how I can correctly retrieve the list of topics from the HTML document and subsequently hide ALL but the first 5 topics?
How can I parse a html document or just a html element in order to replace all specific strings into other ones ?
In other terms:
- search for all strings #### in element .class
- replace them with $$$$$
I'm using jQuery..
thanks
Not sure if you can do this, but I want to select the first of two classes of an element with jQuery and return it's first class only.
<div class="module blue">
I want to return 'module'.
tried this:
var state = $('body').attr('class').first();
but none of that seems to work, thanks for any advice.
I've been fighting with jQuery all night and getting quite frustrated here, so forgive me if the answer was staring me in the face.
I have a grid of 15 images contained within a <div>, and when I click on one of them, I want it to expand to three times its original size of 150x105 and overlap the rest. I've got the expanding down, but the overlapping isn't quite working.
My current HTML:
<div id="image-grid">
<img src="images/after-pictures/1.jpg" class="igc1" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/2.jpg" class="igc2" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/3.jpg" class="igc3" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/4.jpg" class="igc4" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/5.jpg" class="igc5" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/6.jpg" class="igc1" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/7.jpg" class="igc2" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/8.jpg" class="igc3" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/9.jpg" class="igc4" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/10.jpg" class="igc5" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/11.jpg" class="igc1" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/12.jpg" class="igc2" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/13.jpg" class="igc3" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/14.jpg" class="igc4" />
<img src="images/after-pictures/15.jpg" class="igc5" />
</div>
The igc* class denotes the column the image is in.
CSS:
#image-grid {
border: 1px solid #aaa;
width: 745px;
padding: 5px 2px 2px 5px;
}
#image-grid img {
width: 150px;
height: 105px;
margin: -2px;
}
jQuery:
$('#image-grid img').click(function() {
$(this).animate({
width: '450px',
height: '315px',
zIndex: '10'
}, 200);
});
I used the same software used here http://us.gn.bartal.org/ to create a fixed width/height treemap in HTML + CSS.
I would like to make it elastic by having a JavaScript function to convert all pixels absolute positions and sizes to percentages.
How would you suggest to proceed? Is there some jQuery/Prototype/Dojo magic that I can exploit?
Example website is http://www.wikihow.com/Main-Page, check the "Recent Changes" heading on the right side.
I am really amazed with the implementation of such scroll bars.
Google also uses something very similar to this.
Can someone give me some idea how to do this using jquery.
I have a element which contains 3 child. let says
<div class="parent">
<div class="firstChild">firstChild</div>
SecondChild
<ul><li>thrid child</li></ul>
</div>
In the example I need to select first 2 childs and not the UL. how to do through jquery.
$(document).ready(function() {
$("form#login_form").submit(function() {
var login_username = $('#login_username').attr('value');
var login_password = $('#login_password').attr('value');
type: "POST",
$.ajax({
url: "login.php",
data: "username="+ login_username +"& password="+ login_password,
success: function(data){
alert(data);
if (data == "ok"){
$('form#login_form').hide(function(){$('div.success').fadeIn();});
}
}
});
return false;
});
Login.php:
<?php
include("settings.php");
$query = "select * from users where username = '{$_POST['login_username']}' and password = md5('{$_POST['login_password']}')";
$query = mysql_query($query, $connection);
if ( mysql_num_rows($query) == 1 )
{
print "ok";
$array = mysql_fetch_array($query);
if ( $_POST['stay'] ) { $time = time()+2592000; }
else { $time = 0; }
}
else { print "no"; }
mysql_close($connection);
?>
My problem: In the alert the message always "no" whether username/password is correct, however on the site "ok" appears when username/pw is correct.
I have read the other questions in connection with this problem, but I couldn't solve the response problem from login.php with Json. Could you help me how should I response to the ajax calling? ( with a code if it is possible) Thank you very much, and sorry for questioning again.
hey there,

I am wondering what the idiomatic way to render special language characters is using Handlebars.js templates. When I render the normal html I can use something like the Spanish lowercase e, é, and it renders as expected. When I pass the same text as a string to my Handlebars template I just see the characters é.
I have tried creating a Handlebars helper that used jquery to render the text using .html() then returning the .html() of the tmp element and I get the same results.
Is there any way of creating a combo box (<select>) with a size of 1? All the examples I can find allow for multiple selects but with a number of options visible at any one time. If this cannot be accomplished with bog standard HTML is it possible in a JS library such as JQuery?
i have following format of json in which i want to asscess 0.4 , kem , 2 , 2000 values

Hi folks,
this might be quite simple, but I must say I'm a bit confused on this topic.
I'm writing code based on two popular libraries:
jQuery
underscore.js
I am just wondering what would be the best way to isolate the code and prevent conflicts and how to merge it with its dependencies.
By merging I mean putting them within the same file. :)
I hope I'm not asking something which is too basic.
...and a last thing
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! =D
I have 11 checkboxes with individual ids inside a modal popup.I want to have a hyperlink called SelectAll,by clicking on which every checkbox got checked.I want this to be done by javascript/jquery
I am really amazed with the implementation of such scroll bars. Google also uses something very similar to this. Can someone give me some idea how to do this using jquery.
Im beginner and im experimenting on a website with fixed and relative postions, what i want to do is to stop bottom part when the two bottom lines(div .top_divider_line) touches nav menu(div .top_holder) here is the preview from site where im stuck.

I think making it with jquery will be lot easier but i've no idea how to do it, i'll really appreciate your help.
Thank You!
I've looked at free javascript html editors, and I haven't found any that I feel handle links intuitively. I like the way the gmail editor does it (also the same way blogger.com) does it.
Does anyone know if there is an open source editor that handles linking that way? Jquery would be preferable.
When user scrolls to the bottom of the page I want to show some div, with jQuery of course. And if user scrolls back to he top, div fade out.
So how to calculate viewport (or whatever is the right name) :)
Thanks
I want to check server response in javascript. For example I have a server A which will host the script. On excuting the script it will check if the server B is responding or not. If yest continue other wise redirect to server C. Is this possible with Javascript/Jquery? If not what could be a possible solution in PHP?
I currently have a simple flash Mp3 player on my site which works lovely. The issue is, most cell phones do not support flash and a large portion of my visitors come through via a mobile device. The alternative to this is to replace the flash player with a javascript player. I found a JQuery one but it only works on HTML5 compatible browsers. Does anyone know of a good alternative that would work on mobile devices as well as most desktop web browsers?
