• Setting up Oracle Linux 6 with public-yum for all updates

  I just wanted to give you a quick example on how to get started with Oracle Linux 6 and start using the updates we published on http://public-yum.oracle.com. Download Oracle Linux (without the requirement of a support subscription) from http://edelivery.oracle.com/linux. Install Oracle Linux from the ISO or DVD image Log in as user root Download the yum repo file from http://public-yum.oracle.com # cd /etc/yum.repos.d # wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol6.repo If you want, you can edit the repo file and enable other repositories, I enabled [ol6_UEK_latest] by just setting enabled=1 in the file with a text editor. Run yum repolist to show the registered channels and you see we are including everything including the latest published RPMs. Now you can just run yum update and any time we release new security errata or bugfix errata for OL6, they will be posted and you will automatically get them. It's very easy, very convenient and actually very cool. We do a lot more than just build OL RPMs and distribute them, we have a very comprehensive test farm where we test the packages extensively.

• Oracle WebCenter: Composite Applications & Mash-Ups

  We’ve talked in previous weeks about the key goals of the new release of WebCenter are providing a Modern User Experience, unparalleled Application Integration, converging all the best of the existing portal platforms into WebCenter and delivering a Common User Experience Architecture.  We’ve provided an overview of Oracle WebCenter and discussed some of the other key goals in previous weeks, and this week, we’ll focus on how with the new release of Oracle WebCenter you can create composite applications and mashups.We recently talked with Sachin Agarwal, Director of Product Management of Enterprise 2.0 at Oracle around the topic of Composite Applications and Mashups. Oracle WebCenter provides a rich set of tools and capabilities for pulling in content, applications and collaboration functionality from various different sources and weaving them together into what we call Mashups. Mashups that also consists of transactional applications from multiple sources are specifically called Composite Applications. With the latest release of Oracle WebCenter one can develop highly productive tasked based interfaces that aggregate a related set of applications that are part of a business process and provide in context collaboration tools so that users don’t have to navigate away to different tabs to achieve these tasks. For instance, a call center representative (CSR), not only needs to be able to pull customer information from a CRM application like Siebel, but also related information from Oracle E-Business Suite about whether a specific order has shipped. The CSR will be far more efficient if he or she does not have to open different tabs to login into multiple applications while the customer is waiting, but can access all this information in one mashup.Oracle WebCenter Suite provides a comprehensive set of tooling that enables a business user to quickly aggregate together a mashup and wire-in different backend applications to create a custom dashboard. Not only does Oracle WebCenter supports a wide set of standards (WSRP 1.0, 2.0, JSR 168, JSR 286) that allow portlets  from other applications to be surfaced within WebCenter, but it also provides tools to bring in other web applications such as .Net Applications  as well as SharePoint webparts. The new Business Mash-up editor allows business users to take any Oracle Application or 3rd party application and wire the backend data sources or APIs to a rich set of visualizations and reuse them in mashups.  Moreover, Business users can customize or personalize any page using Oracle WebCenter Composer’s on-the-fly visual page editing features. Users access and select different resource components available in Oracle WebCenter’s Business Dictionary in order to add new content to the page. The Business Dictionary provides a role-based view of available components or resources, and these components can include information from a variety of enterprise resources such as enterprise applications, managed content, rich media, business processes, or business intelligence systems. JRE 6u35-b10) is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 desktop clients.   What's new in Java 1.6.0_35?See the 1.6.0_35 Update Release Notes for details about what has changed in this release.  This release is available for download from the usual Sun channels and through the 'Java Automatic Update' mechanism. 32-bit and 64-bit versions certified This certification includes both the 32-bit and 64-bit JRE versions. 32-bit JREs are certified on: Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Service Pack 2 (SP2) Windows 7 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) 64-bit JREs are certified only on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Worried about the 'mismanaged session cookie' issue? No need to worry -- it's fixed.  To recap: JRE releases 1.6.0_18 through 1.6.0_22 had issues with mismanaging session cookies that affected some users in some circumstances. The fix for those issues was first included in JRE 1.6.0_23. These fixes will carry forward and continue to be fixed in all future JRE releases.  In other words, if you wish to avoid the mismanaged session cookie issue, you should apply any release after JRE 1.6.0_22.All JRE 1.6 releases are certified with EBS upon release Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 releases to your EBS users' desktops. • Why ISVs Run Applications on Oracle SuperCluster

  Michael Palmeter, Senior Director Product Development of Oracle Engineered Systems, discusses how ISVs can easily run up to 20x faster, gain 28:1 storage compression, and grow presence in the market all without any changes to their code in this short video. One of the family of Oracle engineered systems products, Oracle SuperCluster provides maximum end-to-end database and application performance with minimal initial and ongoing support and maintenance effort, at the lowest total cost of ownership. Java or enterprise applications running on Oracle Database 11gR2 or higher and Oracle Solaris 11 can run up to 20X faster than traditional platforms on Oracle SuperCluster without any changes to their code.  Large number of customers are consolidating hundreds of their applications and databases on Oracle SuperCluster and are requiring their ISVs to support it. ISVs can become Oracle SuperCluster Ready and Oracle SuperCluster Optimized by joining the Oracle Exastack program.

Worried about the 'mismanaged session cookie' issue? No need to worry -- it's fixed.  To recap: JRE releases 1.6.0_18 through 1.6.0_22 had issues with mismanaging session cookies that affected some users in some circumstances. The fix for those issues was first included in JRE 1.6.0_23. These fixes will carry forward and continue to be fixed in all future JRE releases.  In other words, if you wish to avoid the mismanaged session cookie issue, you should apply any release after JRE 1.6.0_22.All JRE 1.6 releases are certified with EBS upon release Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 releases to your EBS users' desktops.   I'm trying to establish a tricky bidirectional OneToOne mapping in hibernate.
