• Migrate Data and Schema from MySQL to MSSQL

  Are there any free solutions for automatically migrating a database from MySQL to MSSQL Server that "just works"? I've been attempting this simple (at least I thought so) task all day now. I've tried: MSSQL Server Management Studio's Import Data feature Create an empty database Tasks - Import Data... .NET Framework Data Provider for Odbc Valid DSN (verified it connects) Copy data from one or more tables or views Check 1 VERY simple table Click Preview Get Error: The preview data could not be retrieved. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ERROR [42000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver][mysqld-5.1.45-community]You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '"table_name"' at line 1 (myodbc5.dll) A similar error occurs if I go through the rest of the wizard and perform the operation. The failed step is "Setting Source Connection" the error refers to retrieving column information and then lists the above error. It can retrieve column information just fine when I modify column mappings so I really don't know what the issue is. I've also tried getting various MySql tools to output ddl statements that MSSQL understand but haven't succeeded. I've tried with MySQL v5.1.11 to SQL Server 2005 and with MySQL v5.1.45 to SQL Server 2008 (with ODBC drivers 3.51.27.00 and 5.01.06.00 respectively)

• Where do objects merge/join data in a 3-tier model?

  Its probarbly a simple 3-tier problem. I just want to make sure we use the best practice for this and I am not that familiary with the structures yet. We have the 3 tiers: GUI: ASP.NET for Presentation-layer (first platform) BAL: Business-layer will be handling the logic on a webserver in C#, so we both can use it for webforms/MVC + webservices DAL: LINQ to SQL in the Data-layer, returning BusinessObjects not LINQ. DB: The SQL will be Microsoft SQL-server/Express (havent decided yet). Lets think of setup where we have a database of [Persons]. They can all have multiple [Address]es and we have a complete list of all [PostalCode] and corresponding citynames etc. The deal is that we have joined a lot of details from other tables. {Relations}/[tables] [Person]:1 --- N:{PersonAddress}:M --- 1:[Address] [Address]:N --- 1:[PostalCode] Now we want to build the DAL for Person. How should the PersonBO look and when does the joins occure? Is it a business-layer problem to fetch all citynames and possible addressses pr. Person? or should the DAL complete all this before returning the PersonBO to the BAL ?   To end the year on a good note this release adds support for SQL Server 2011 (Denali) CTP1 and fixes a few bugs. Because of the new SSMS shell in SQL 2011 CTP1 the SSMS Tools Pack 1.9.4 doesn't have regions and debug sections functionality for now. The fixed bugs are: A bug that prevented to create insert statements for a database A bug that didn't script commas as decimal points correctly for non US settings. A bug with searching through grid results. A threading bug that sometimes happened when saving Window Content History. A bug with Window Connection Coloring throwing an error on startup if a server colors was undefined. A bug with changing shortcuts in SSMS for various features.   What I am trying to do is create some arbitrary sql command with parameters, set the values and types of the parameters, and then return the parsed sql command - with parameters included. I will not be directly running this command against a sql database, so no connection should be necessary. • What approaches are available to revert an IDirect3DDevice9 instance to its default render state?

  Given an instance of IDirect3DDevice9, what approaches are available to put it in its original render state (i.e. the state it was in when the device was initially created)? The cleanest way that I've come across is to create a state block via IDirect3DDevice9::CreateStateBlock just after the device has been created so that it can be applied later. Unfortunately, I'm operating under the constraints of an existing project such that I can't modify the device creation code; by the time my component gets the device, its default state has been modified. Access ADP front-end, linked to a SQL Server 2008 database Using a SQL Server account to log into the database (for testing); this account is a member of the role, "Api"; this role has SELECT, EXECUTE, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE access to the "Api" schema The "Api" schema is owned by "dbo" All tables have a corresponding view in the Api schema: e.g. dbo.Customer -- Api.Customers The rationale is that users don't have direct table access, but can deal with views as if they were tables I can log into SQL using my test login, and it works fine: no access to the tables, but I can select, insert, update and delete from the Api views. In Access, I see the views, I can open them, but whenever I try to insert or update, I get the following error: The SELECT permission was denied on the object '[Table name which the view is using]', database '[database name]', schema 'dbo' Crazy as it sounds, Access seems to be trying to access the underlying table rather than the view. Any ideas?

• How does one SELECT block another?

  I'm looking at output of SP_WhoIsActive on SQL Server 2005, and it's telling me one session is blocking another - fine. However they both are running a SELECT. How does one SELECT block another? Shouldn't they both be acquiring shared locks (which are compatible with one another)? Some more details: Neither session has an open transaction count - so they are stand-alone. The queries join a view with a table. They are complex queries which join lots of tables and results in 10,000 or so reads. Any insight much appreciated.

Msg 4922, Level 16, State 9, Line 2 ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN CountryID failed because one or more objects access this column. I have tried this, yet it does not seem to work: alter table company drop foreign key Company_CountryID_FK; alter table company drop column CountryID; What do I need to do to drop the CountryID column? The problem is that sometimes the room may not "check in" at the 15 minute interval time, so the assumption has to be made that the previous last known user count is still valid. For example the check-in's for 2012-08-03 14:15:00 room 4 never checked in, so it must be assumed that room 4 had 3 users at 2012-08-03 14:15:00 because that is what it had at 2012-08-03 14:00:00 This follows on through so that the average user count I am looking for is as follows: Room 1: (2 + 3 + 6 + 3) / 4 = 3.5 Room 2: (3 + 4 + 4 + 7) / 4 = 4.5 Room 3: (1 + 1 + 1 + 8) / 4 = 2.75 Room 4: (3 + 3 + 3 + 4) / 4 = 3.25 where # is the assumed number based on the previous known check-in. I have reinstalled sound drivers several times, checked speakers are not mute, checked alsamixer, saw all the troubleshooting tips on the net, checked user privileges too but of no help. anyone knows the answer? Please help!!!!! I have ubuntu 10.4LTS and alc662 sound chip. My computer is detecting the sound card and no problems with my speakers.This maybe a bug but i cannot report as i don't know if this will repeat(I atleast have to solve the problem first).

• CRM 2011 - Set/Retrieve work hours programmatically

  I am attempting to retrieve a resources work hours to perform some logic I require. I understand that the CRM scheduling engine is a little clunky around such things, but I assumed that I would be able to find out how the working hours were stored in the DB eventually... So a resource has associated calendars and those calendars have associated calendar rules and inner calendars etc. It is possible to look at the start/end and frequency of aforementioned calendar rules and query their codes to work out whether a resource is 'working' during a given period. However, I have not been able to find the actual working hours, the 9-5 shall we say in any field in the DB. I even tried some SQL profiling while I was creating a new schedule for a resource via the UI, but the results don't show any work hours passing to SQL. Am I thinking about this incorrectly or is CRM doing something interesting around these work hours? Any thoughts greatly appreciated, thanks.

• Cannot create a new VS data connection in Server Explorer

  I have a local instance of SQL Server 2008 express edition running on my development PC. I'm trying to create a new data connection through Visual Studio Server Explorer. The steps are the following: Right click the "Data Connections" node = Choose Data Source. I select "Microsoft SQL Server" as the data source. The "Add Connection" dialog window appears. I select my local server instance = "Test connection" works fine. I select "AdventureWorks" as the database name = "Test connection" works fine. Next I hit the "Ok" button = Error message: "This server version is not supported. Only servers up to MS SQL Server 2005 are supported." I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition. The target framework of the application is ".NET framework 3.5". I have a reference to System.Data (framework v2.0) and cannot find another version of the assembly on my system. Am I referencing the wrong assembly? How can I fix this problem?

So I spent the whole day with SQL Profiler, setting the tracing keys etc. And this is what I got. There's a Users table. I have a very high usable page with the following query (it's not the only query, but it's the one that causes troubles) UPDATE Users SET views = views + 1 WHERE ID IN (SELECT AuthorID FROM Articles WHERE ArticleID = @ArticleID) And then there's the following query in ALL pages: User = DB.Users.SingleOrDefault(u => u.Password == password && u.Name == username); That's where I get User from cookies. Very often a deadlock occurs and this second Linq-to-SQL query is chosen as a victim, so it's not run, and users of my site see an error screen. I read a lot about deadlocks... And I don't understand why this is causing a deadlock. So obviously both of this queries run very often. At least once a second. Maybe even more often (300-400 users online). So they can be run at the same time very easily, but why does it cause a deadlock? Please help. Thank you

• How does Access 2007's moveNext/moveFirst/, etc., feature work?

  I'm not an Access expert, but am an SQL expert. I inherited an Access front-end referencing a SQL 2005 database that worked OK for about 5000 records, but is failing miserably for 800k records... Behind the scenes in the SQL profiler & activity manager I see some kind of Access query like: SELECT "MS1"."id" FROM "dbo"."customer" "MS1" ORDER BY "MS1"."id" The MS prefix doesn't appear in any Access code I can see. I'm suspicious of the built-in Access navigation code: DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNext The GoToRecord has AcRecord constant, which includes things like acFirst, acLast, acNext, acPrevious and acGoTo. What does it mean in a database context to move to the "next" record? This particular table uses an identity column as the PK, so is it internally grabbing all the IDs and then moving to the one that is the next highest??? If so, how would it work if a table was comprised of three different fields for the PK? Or am I on the wrong track, and something else in Access is calling that statement? Unfortunately I see a ton of prepared statements in the profiler. THanks!

Please resume and shutdown Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume read-only with the 'ro' mount option. i get this error i have disabled fast start up in windows 8. what can i do i shut down my computer 4 times in windows and disabled fast start in windows 8. i'm using Ubuntu 13.10. please help thanks.

• Generating an NSDictionary from an SQL statement.

  I am trying to generate an NSDictonary that can be used to populate a listview with data I retrieved from an SQL statement. when I go to create an array and add them it adds the arrays for ALL my keys and not just for the current key. • SQL developer here -- Nesting with select * finicky in Oracle 10g?

  I am writing a simple diagnostic query I will execute in my Oracle 10g scratchpad. I am trying to do this as part of a step to build the query. In the SQL Scratchpad for Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager Console, this statement runs fine. SELECT * FROM v$session sess, v$sql sql WHERE sql.sql_id(+) = sess.sql_id and sql.sql_text <> ' ' If I try to wrap that up in Select * from () tb2 I get an error, "ORA-00918: Column Ambiguously Defined". I didn't think that could ever happen with this kind of statement so I am a bit confused. select * from (SELECT * FROM v$session sess, v$sql sql WHERE sql.sql_id(+) = sess.sql_id and sql.sql_text <> ' ') tb2 You should always be able to select * from the result set of another select * statement using this structure as far as I'm aware... right? Is Oracle/10g/the scratchpad trying to force me to accept a certain syntactic structure to prevent excessive nesting? Is this a bug in scratchpad or something about how oracle works?
