• Windows API Codepack Backwards Compatibility on Window XP

  I don't have an XP machine handy. If I use the Windows API Codepack to do something new to Vista/Win7 (e.g. "TaskDialog") in C#, how does it cope with running on Windows XP machines? If I use the Codepack, have I effectively made my application only support Vista and later versions of Windows?

  When I try to connect to an unavailable machine, I get an EndpointNotFoundException but it takes too long (about 20 seconds). Setting closeTimeout, openTimeout, receiveTimeout or sendTimeout has no effect. Can I get that exception earlier?

• Has anyone had trouble with Intellisense in Visual Studio when using UltraVNC?

  Hi, a colleague and I are trying pair programming for the first time. We both remote into a development machine; I'm using RemoteDesktop and my colleague is using UltraVNC. This works great except that he can't see the Intellisense dropdown in Visual Studio 2008. According to online posts, this may be something to do with DirectDraw, but I don't see much by way of a workaround. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Andrew

• Building 64bit Qt on 32bit Xp computer

  I'm trying to build Qt in a shared 64 bit mode on my 32bit XP system. I can configure the QMake and start the 64bit build. The problem is that when the build starts, the first thing that happens in that the process builds ui, moc and rcc utility compilers in 64 bit mode, then tries to run them on my 32bit machine. Does anyone know how to configure the build so that it does not build those compilers first?

• Is there a C++ cross platform "named event like the "CreateEvent()" in Win32?

  I am looking for something analogous to CreateEvent(), SetEvent() and WaitForMultipleObjects() from the Win32 world. Specifically this has to be accessible across processes on the same machine. We are already using Poco for some cross platform stuff, but I don't see that the Poco::Event is what I want. perhaps i am missing something.
