    i finally put up a Dual Boot with Ubuntu and Lion on my old MacBookPro 5.1 As reported in many cases the discrete graphics card is turned on all the time consuming a lot of power and thus heating up the laptop. Since the discrete graphics card does not support the nvidia optimus technology, the corresponding packge nvidia-prime does not help in this case. Therefore my question is, how to manually disable the discrete graphics card Nvdidia 9600GT ? Preferably a 'switch-on-the-run' version, but a 'set-on-boot' would be totally fine!

  • Programs and memory consumption [closed]

    I have a 4gb ram macbook pro but I still run out of memory when I have chrome and a few other light weight applications open such as multiple windows of macvim. These programs are written in C/C++ so technically should be memory efficient but why do they suck up all these memory. is it just bad engineering or graphical user interfaces because I have read about incredible feats performed in software dev back in the early computing days with very limited memory but now it just feels like the applications expand to fill all my memory.

  • Is there a quick way to enter uppercase accented characters?

    I know I can enter any character I need using the character-map applet, but that means grabbing the mouse/opening the "run" dialog, switching to another window, selecting the character, copying... you get the idea. Is there a quicker way to enter characters that are not available on the keyboard (and are not available as alt-gr combinations)? In my specific case I'm using a laptop with the Italian keyboard layout, but I suspect a general solution exists.

    Possible Duplicate: Shared folders in XP virtualbox guest I'm using Virtualbox 4.1.8 to run Windows XP PRO. I have ironed out all other kinks on my own but I still can't access a file share. The sole purpose of running a VM is to get iTunes for my iPhone but I can't get to my music file from my guest OS, I'm also new to Ubuntu so im not sure if I have done all the updates right or not, any would be welcome

The tools I used were the latest versions of: My 64-bit development PC running Windows 8 Update with 8Gb RAM Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate with SP2 ReSharper GhostDoc Pro My first attempt had to be abandoned due to collision of class names which broke one of the unit tests. So being aware of this duplication of class names, I started again and planned to prepend the class names with the namespace name. In some cases I additionally prepended the item of the C5 collection that was being tested. So what was the condition of code at the start? Besides the sprawl of C# code not written to style cop standard, there was: 1) Placing of many classes within one physical file. 2) Namespace within name space that did not follow the project structure. 3) As already mentioned, duplication of class names across namespaces. 4) A copyright notice that spawled but had to be preserved. 5) Project sub-folders were all lower case instead of initial letter capitalised. The first step was to add a stylecop heading plus the original heading contained within a region, to every file. The next step was to run GhostDoc Pro using its “Document File” option on every file but not letting it replace the headers, I had added. This brought the number of issues down to 18,192. I then went through each file collapsing each class and prepending names as appropriate. At each step, I saved the changes to my local Git. The step was to move each class to its own file and to style-cop each file. ReSharper provides a very useful feature for doing this which also fixes missing “this.” and moves using statements inside the namespace. Some classes required minimal work whereas others required extensive work to reach the stylecop standard. The unit tests were run at each split and when each class was completed. When all was done, one issue remained which I will need to submit to stylecop team for their advice (and possibly a fix to stylecop).     When I use the software center to install something, I get the error: An unhandlable error occured There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks on using the command line: $sudo apt-get install <something> E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. I am unable to install anything. How do we fix this?

I resolve this by going to the following locations and adding permission for the admin users accounts (ASP.NET & IIS_WPG) I have set up for Sharepoint. C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files C:\WINDOWS\System 32\Log Files C:\WINDOWS\Temp After the correct permissions have been added, Sharepoint works as normal.

Do not run this command to "test" it unless you are prepared for a crash and/or force-rebooting your system I was in my Virtualbox running 12.04 trying to compile an app, and while waiting I happened to chance upon a forum where a comment said: Try :(){ :|: & };: Fun, too, and doesn't need root. Without thinking I ran it in my gnome-terminal it made my 12.04 virtualbox lag so badly I had to shut it down. My question is what does this command do? :(){ :|: & };:

    I've tried several times to install radio tray on my fresh ubuntu 11.10 installation but when I run ~$ sudo apt-get install radiotraythe following dialog pops up at the end of the script: Media change: please insert the disc labeled 'Ubuntu 11.10 _Oneiric Ocelot_ - Release i386 (20111012)' in the drive '/cdrom/' and press enter I've performed previous installations of this app on another computer using the same repository and all went smooth. My Ubuntu Oneiric version was installed from a USB flash drive, so don't understand that request from apt-get.

    I have capped data which is essentially free between midnight and 5am. As a result, I would like to set Ubuntu to automatically download updates over that time. It seems that cron-apt is what I need, but the documentation and syntax is sketchy and unintuitive. Can anyone tell me how to use it to schedule downloads? It can install the updates at the same time as far as I'm concerned, but that's not such a big issue - I can run those at a later stage.
