• .Net with single .exe without .NET Framework installation

  I wrote my simple desktop program in C#. I am reluctant to distribute it on the internet because i am not sure if users will go through pain of installing the .Net Framework. My target users are non-tech savvy users. I am very familiar with MFC and I probably can write this program in MFC in a month. MFC is nice because I don't have to worry about distributing other components. It will be one nice single executable. So my real question is this: Is it possible to write .Net app without worrying about distributing .Net Framework? • Getting websites to detect our mobile browser

  I've been asked to find out a sensible way to make the majority of popular websites detect our browser - which is functionally complete, but is running on rather constrained hardware - as a "mobile" browser. The idea is that the heaviest popular websites seem to have mobile versions, which render much faster and fit better on the screen. I've looked at the inverse question, which tells me that there isn't an obvious standard way of doing it - http://www.brainhandles.com/techno-thoughts/detecting-mobile-browsers is a case in point. This is borne out by looking at a variety of User-Agent strings from popular mobile and desktop browsers. So far the best idea we can come up with is to add "Mobile" to the string somewhere, since this is the main visible difference between Safari for iPad/iPhone and for Windows/Mac. Does anyone have a better idea?

  Hi, I saw any post about Reachability but people doesn't really give the exact answer to the problem. • JQuery plugin to animate overlay

  I'm looking for a JQuery plugin to animate the appearance and disappearance of an overlay div. Something like what Rackspace has here: http://www.rackspacecloud.com/ After staring at the page for 30 seconds or so, a div comes sliding down from the top asking you whether you want to chat with a rep. If you ignore the div for a period of time it slides back up. I know I could hand code all this using timers and animate() and such, but hoping someone has done it for us already. Any ideas?

• Displaying Google Calendar event data on FullCalendar

  I am using Google Calendar as a storage engine for a calendar system I am building, however, I am using a single Google user account with multiple calendars, i.e. each user on my system has their own calendar within the one user account. I'm able to create a calendar per user just fine, but I would like to have FullCalendar retrieve the events for display purposes, without manually getting the magic cookie url from Google Calendar settings.   I tried a couple of jQuery based window plug-ins but unfortunately was not satisfied with any of them. The three plug-ins I have tried failed in one or more respects. I'm not looking for very fancy, animated effects, just very basic but yet adequate functionality. Any suggestions?

• Rails redirect_to jQTouch site does not work as expected

  I have a Rails app with a jQTouch mobile site that is displayed if the user goes to m.blah.com. First, I detect the browser, then to a redirect_to m.blah.com if it's an iphone, etc. All well and good. When I use desktop Safari, this all works exactly right. However, when I use an actual iPhone or the Apple iPhone Simulator, it does not. The mobile site appears to load without the browser actually doing the redirect. The URL in the browser is still www. I am wondering if this behavior is due to Mobile Safari, or if it is somehow jQTouch trying to load the page with AJAX, not a reload (which is odd as jQTouch hasn't been loaded at all before the redirect). Any ideas?

There would need to be a conf file per logged in user. and an administrator user for viewing all config files in his group. I'm wondering what technology is best to create this framework. • Snatching the code of a Facebook fan page canvas?

  I am trying to snatch the code of this fan page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/See-oho-nieps-YothG-RRofiLe/106340746065367 I need the function that suggests the fan page to the users friends automatically (not for spamming purposes as the above fan page is used for). Now by looking at the source, I know that the code is under the pagelet_tab_content, but not all of it. I have copied that part and pasted it into my own fan page. The layout looks identical but the functions does not work. Obviously something is missing. For instance, I cant find the in the source which is strange, as I know for definate that it is being used. I have been working with this all day without any result. Maybe there is someone more intelligent and experienced that could help me out?

  I'm using TCPDF and following this example which uses writeHTML and heredoc syntax to write a table. http://www.tcpdf.org/examples/example_048.phps I'm trying to do though is switch the font using setFont before writing each column. This means I have to break the html and write it on different pieces (see pseudo code). But once I break the HTML like that, it doesn't work, I think because it becomes invalid. writeHTML <tr> writeHTML first column setFont() writeHTML second column writeHTML </tr> I want to use writeHTML because it helps me write the table without having to manually construct. But how can I make modifications before I output each cell?

  Using the following code, I can download the HTML of a file from the internet: WebClient wc = new WebClient(); // .... string downloadedFile = wc.DownloadString("http://www.myurl.com/"); However, sometimes the file contains "interesting" characters like é to é, ? to ↠and ????? to フシギダãƒ. I think it may be something to do with different unicode types or something, as each character gets changed into 2 new ones, perhaps each character being split in half but I have very little knowledge in this area. What do you think is wrong?

  What is the difference, in general, between the concepts of namespaces and scope? To my understanding, both describe the parts of a program in which a variable/object/method/function will be accessible. I understand that 'scope' tends to be a property of the variable (e.g., "This variable has global scope"), while a 'namespace' is a property of the program (e.g., "A Python function creates a local namespace"). Are there other differences? • Can't use ProcessWindowStyle.Minimized to start Firefox instance minimized?

  I'm having trouble using Process.Start with Firefox. I want to start a new instance of Firefox in a minimized window. The following works fine with Internet Explorer, notepad, etc.: ProcessStartInfo p = new ProcessStartInfo(); p.FileName = "iexplore.exe"; p.Arguments = "http://www.google.com"; p.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Minimized; Process.Start(p); This opens IE in a new, minimized window. Good, just what I want. If I try the exact same thing but instead supply Firefox in the p.FileName, it opens Firefox in a "normal" window, rather than minimized. I've tried various changes to arguments, also have tried examining my local Firefox settings (under Tools/Options) with no luck. I'm sure I'm just missing something simple, but can't figure out what it is. If anyone can help me with getting Firefox opened in a minimized state it would be greatly appreciated!

• GnuPG Shell Script - Refuses to read password

  The script below used to work on Mac OS X, but, since moving it to Ubuntu, it doesn't seem to read from the password file at all. Even when I run it from the command line, no matter what I do, I get a popup prompt asking me for the password. As this will run via cron, I don't want this to happen... I want it to read the password from the file with no prompt. I'm trying to use it to make sure all outgoing calls has a country code in the format 00XX I also want it to put 0045 in front of the number, if no country code is present. The first one, I have solved, but I can't figure out how to do the second thing. Search: \A(((\+)(\d{2})?)|(00(\d{2})?)|)((\d|\s)+)\Z Replace: 00$4$6$7 I'm using http://www.regexplanet.com/simple/index.html to test it, with the test strings: "12345678", "+4512345678" and "004512345678" They should all return "004512345678".

• How can Perl's XML::Simple ignore HTML embedded in XML?

  I have an XML file that I am pulling from the web and parsing. One of the items in the XML is a 'content' value that has HTML. I am using XML::Simple::XMLin to parse the file like so: $xml= eval { $data->XMLin($xmldata, forcearray => 1, suppressempty=> +'') }; When I use Data::Dumper to dump the hash, I discovered that SimpleXML is parsing the HTML into the hash tree: 'content' = { 'div' = [ { 'xmlns' = 'http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml', 'p' = [ { 'a' = [ { 'href' = 'http://miamiherald.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451b26169e20133ec6f4491970b-pi', 'style' = 'FLOAT: left', 'img' = [ etc..... • Does a .NET 4.0 website load faster for a reason?

  I have been using DotNetBlogEngine for many years, and today my host (JodoHost.com) officially turned on support for .NET 4.0. What I've noticed immediately is that the website loads tremendously faster on the first load, subsequent loads are only slightly faster. The website is compiled as a .NET 2.0 web application. Is there a known reason for this performance increase? Was there a change in the .NET 4.0 framework that improved the initial load time of websites into an application pool?
