• hide keyboard in iphone safari webapp

  I'm creating a webapp for the iPhone, based in HTML/CSS/JS. I'm using forms to receive input and pass data to the script, but a problem I'm encountering is that the keyboard won't disappear. The user will enter the information, hit submit, and since it's JavaScript the page doesn't reload. The keyboard remains in place, which is a nuisance and adds another step for users (having to close it). Is there any way to force the keyboard in Safari to go away? Essentially, I have a feeling this question is equivalent to asking how I can force an input box to lose focus or to blur. Looking online, I find plenty of examples to detect the blur event, but none to force this event to occur.

• Modal MessageBox for ASP.NET without jQuery

  I have an assembly with custom ASP.NET server controls that is used in several, mostly in-house, ASP.NET 2.0 applications. The server controls use simple modal popup messageboxes, which are currently implemented using the javascript alert and confirm functions. I want to release a new version of this assembly that uses a better solution for messageboxes, including support for Yes/No buttons. The appearance would be something like a simplified version of the Ajax Control Toolkit ModalPopup extender (sample here). My constraints are that this should be as easy as possible to integrate into existing ASP.NET 2.0 applications without introducing new dependencies: ideally just drop in a new version of the assembly, that contains all the javascript it needs as an embedded resource, and possibly a CSS file. Because of this constraint, I am not considering solutions I've seen that use jquery, or the ASP.NET Ajax Control Toolkit, which appears to require adding elements to pages that use the extenders (ScriptManagers and the like). Any recommendations?

• breaking out of for loop when running a function inside a for loop in R

  I'm embarrassed that I'm asking this question, but here I go: Suppose you have the following function foo. When I'm running a for loop, I'd like it to skip the remainder of foo when foo initially returns the value of 0. However, break doesn't work when it's inside a function. As it's currently written, I get an error message, no loop to break from, jumping to top level. • Base URL in ASP.net Master Pages with virtual Directories

  Hi All, I have an ASP.net master page. In this master, I have all my css and javascript files defined. I also have a few images and a few buttons and hyperlinks. All the urls are all declared as relative ie "/scripts/ian.js" Everything works fine if this site is the root website, but I need it to work in a virtual directory. My problem is when I place this website in a virtual directory under a root site, all my links are pointing to the root site. so my links point to www.root.com/scripts/ian.js but it should be pointing to www.root.com/virtualDir/scripts/ian.js I thought the Base Href tag in the header would help, but so far it does not seem to be helping in anyway. All the links are still pointing to the root website when i hover over them. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome. Thanks

• How to read STDIN into string variable until EOF in C?

  Hi, im getting "Bus Error" trying to read stdin into a char* variable. I just want to read whole stuff coming over stdin and put it first into a variable, then continue working on the variable. My Code is as follows: char* content; char* c; while( scanf( "%c", c)) { strcat( content, c); } fprintf( stdout, "Size: %d", strlen( content)); But somehow i always get "Bus error" returned by calling "cat test.txt | myapp", where "myapp" is the compiled code above. My question is how do i read stdin until EOF into a variable? As you see in the code, i just want to print the size of input coming over stdin, in this case it should be equal to the size of the file "test.txt". I thought just using scanf would be enough, maybe buffered way to read stdin?

  I just finished reading this post: http://developer.yahoo.com/performance/rules.html#flush and have already implemented a flush after the top portion of my page loads (head, css, top banner/search/nav). Is there any performance hit in flushing? Is there such a thing as doing it too often? What are the best practices? If I am going to hit an external API for data, would it make sense to flush before hand so that the user isn't waiting on that data to come back, and can at least get some data before hand? And for this one I want everything to be like in other modules(meaning dependencies) just to test hello world, then I'll go do some more complex stuff. • z-Index overlay in google maps version 3

  Hi, I'm trying to get an overlay in google maps api v3 to appear above all markers. But it seems that the google api always put my overlay with lowest z-index priority. Only solution i've found is to iterate up through the DOM tree and manually set z-index to a higher value. Poor solution. • OutOfMemoryException with Image.Clone - Only on Windows 2003

  So here's my issue. I have an image that I need to shrink. The original image is a grayscale PNG, which isn't a huge issues except that when I shrink it down, the thermal label printers pickup the artifacts and print them on the label. So, what I did was change the image to black & white (Format1bppIndexed) before resizing, like this: Dim bte() As Byte = System.Convert.FromBase64String(imgStr) Dim ms As New IO.MemoryStream(bte) Dim bmp As New System.Drawing.Bitmap(ms) Dim monoImage As Drawing.Bitmap = New Drawing.Bitmap(1200, 1800, Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format1bppIndexed) Dim rect As New Drawing.Rectangle(0, 0, 1200, 1800) monoImage = bmp.Clone(rect, Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format1bppIndexed) And then I resize it. This code works fine on my Windows 7 machine, but when I run it on the Windows 2003 Server box that it calls home, it always throws an OutOfMemoryException when it hits the bmp.Clone line. Any ideas as to what's happening, or perhaps a better solution to converting the image to B&W?

• issues with horizontal scrolling using jQuery.ScrollTo / jQuery.SerialScroll

  Hi, I am trying to develop auto horizontal scrolling for our website using - jQuery.ScrollTo / jQuery.SerialScroll. I am not sure if this is the best jquery library to do that, but if there's something better, please let me know. Here's the behavior that I want, check out foursquare's "Recent Activity" list. The data that will refresh will come from a ajax request that I make every few seconds using window.setInterval. I am not really a CSS/java script guy so I havent been able to figure out jQuery.SerialScroll. Here's the website - look at the "Live job Feeds" list. Currently the list does refresh the data coming from the ajax call, but I dont see the effect, the animation, in fact I dont even think serialScroll is being used. Right now I am doing a - $('#feed-ticker').prepend(content) to pre-append the newly arrived data. You can do a view source to look at the current code. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

• Firefox extension that overlays persistent iFrame?

  Is it possible to build a Firefox extension that displays a floating, persistent iFrame over the page content? I know it's possible to add iFrames using XUL. For instance, you can add an iFrame to a persistent sidebar. However, I want the iFrame to float over the page content, not cause the content to shrink. So far, my only option is to add the iFrame to the DOM, then use CSS "fixed" positioning to float the iFrame. The iFrame must also persist across page loads, exactly as the sidebar does. Adding an iFrame to the DOM, unfortunately, causes the iFrame to vanish when the browser renders a new page (e.g., after clicking a link). Any clues? Thanks!

• passing json from servlet to dojo

  I am currently trying to pass a generated JSON string to dojo for parsing and am having some issues. The servlet simply writes it as a string as so: response.getWriter().append("{ \"data\": {"); response.getWriter().append("\"type\": \"facing\","); response.getWriter().append("\"score\": " + "\"" + score + "\","); response.getWriter().append("\"count\":" + "\"" + count + "\"" ); response.getWriter().append("}}"); which prints as: {"data":{"type":"facing","score":"10","count":"24"}} And the parsing on the dojo end looks as so: dojo.xhrPost({ url: url, handleAs: "json", load: function(data) { alert(data); /* Parse Not working */ alert(data.data[0].type); }, error: function(error) { alert("No dice") } }); The main issue is the data.data[0].type is returning nothing but when i print this out as text the json seems to be correctly formatted. Any help with this would be appreciated.

• Coda-Slider Problem in ie7, need to remove horizontal scrollbar

  Hello, I am having a big issue with coda-slider and ie7. The horizontal scrollbar is unwanted and I cannot figure out how to remove it. Since coda-slider works as one long scrolling div, I could see why this is happening, however, in all other broswers, including ie8, there is no horizonal scroll. But strangely 'The smooth animated scroll' stopped working in safari and chrome(scrolling without smooth animation) after I made some changes. But it is working smoothly in Firefox. • Too many connections to 212.192.255.240

  Recently, my Internet slowed down drastically. I downloaded a tool to see the TCP/IP connections from my Vista computer. I found out that a lot TCP/IP connections are being connected to 212.192.255.240 through SVCHost. It seems that it is trying to connect to different ports. I think that my computer is being infected with some kind of malware etc. But I am not sure how to get rid of it. I did a little bit of research on this IP but found nothing. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. UPDATE: This is the HiJackThis log file and I can't find any thing weird. Also, the program is also trying to create connections to 91.205.127.63, which is also from Russia. • pchart pie chart legend and graph not correlating

  Hi, I have ten values in the dataset, numbers 1 - 10 and corresponding values. Some of the values are coming back as zero, so they are not added to the chart, BUT, the legend is still listing 1 - 10. Because theres values missing in the chart, the colour coding is knocked off. ie Item 1, has a value of zero, its passed over in the chart, the colour in the legend is red, Item 2, has a value of 4, the percentage is calculated, and the chart gives it the colour red which is the colour for item 1 in the legend. Hope that makes sense. How can I print the legend just for the values that are displayed in the chart? --Mark

  I need to read and write data from an Excel spreadsheet. Is there a method to finding out how many rows/columns a certain worksheet has using ExcelPackage? I have the following code: FileInfo newFile = new FileInfo(@"C:\example.xlsx"); using (ExcelPackage xlPackage = new ExcelPackage(newFile)) { ExcelWorksheet worksheet = xlPackage.Workbook.Worksheets[1]; } I need to iterate through each cell this worksheet has and spit it into a fairly big table, but I don't want to print out blank cells or get an exception. Is there a method resembling worksheet.rowNum or colNum?

  I am try to set a cell formulat that references cells from other workbooks. However, when I open the programmatically generated workbook, the formula cells show up as #REF!. I print out the formulas that were generated in a log. If I cut and paste those into the cells, the numbers from the external workbooks is pulled in.   When running the following Perl code ... use Data::Traverse qw(traverse); use warnings; my $struct = [ 1, 2, { foo => 42 }, [ 3, 4, [ 5, 6, { bar => 43 } ] ], 7, 8 ]; traverse { print "$a => $b\n" if /HASH/ } $struct; ... the warning Name "main::[ab]" used only once: possible typo is given. Since the use of $a and $b is clearly not a typo in this case I want to get rid of the warning. How do I do that while still using warnings?
