• Generating Google Maps markers using Ruby

  I would like to do a very simple task: add some markers in a Google Map using a list of addresses from an array. I have been thinking about generating the Google Maps JavaScript API code using ruby (printf) but this does not seem like a very clean and beautiful solution... I have read about YM4R for Ruby on Rails... my project is pretty simple and I have never worked with Ruby on Rails... I have also never used JQuerry... but I am very willing to learn to use this tools :) What do you think will be the best approach to generating the markers?

• jQuery fadeIn fails with jqQuery form-plugin

  I have a message that I want to fadeIn when a form is successfully send. I'm using the jQuery form plugin and the code: $(document).ready(function() { var options = { target: '#output', beforeSubmit: validate, resetForm: true }; $('#holdform').ajaxForm(options); }); The validate function works perfectly so i added this code before it returns true: (...) $('#output').fadeIn('slow'); return true; } This should fadeIn the div I have underneath the form, styled as display: none;. But what happens is that the div fades in and then disappears. Does anyone have an explanation and possibly a solution to fix it? Thank you in advance!   Hello everyone, I am building a web-based application. The frontend has been designed in Sproutcore. For the backend, we have our own python API which handles all transactions with multiple databases. What is the best way to hook up the front-end with the back-end. AFAIK django is pretty monolithic (correct me if i am wrong) and it would be cumbersome if I dont use its native ORM...I would prefer a python-based solution..any ideas? thanks! Suvir

All was working fine, I checked everything in and when I opened the solution again, it started crashing on the above. I cannot find any hint of what I am doing wrong. • Get a list of members of a WinNT group (C#)

  There are a couple of questions similar to this on stack overflow but not quite the same. I want to open, or create, a local group on a win xp computer and add members to it, domain, local and well known accounts. I also want to check whether a user is already a member so that I don't add the same account twice, and presumably get an exception. So far I started using the DirectoryEntry object with the WinNT:// provider. This is going ok but I'm stuck on how to get a list of members of a group? Anyone know how to do this? Or provide a better solution than using DirectoryEntry?

  I'm using a filter in web.xml to check if a user is logged in or not: <filter> <filter-name>LoginFilter</filter-name> <filter-class>com.mycompany.LoginFilter</filter-class> </filter> <filter-mapping> <filter-name>LoginFilter</filter-name> <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern> </filter-mapping> And this works like a charm until I have a stylesheet or image I want to exclude from this filter. I know one approach is to put everything that's protected inside /privateor similar, and then set the url-pattern to: <url-pattern>/private/*</url-pattern>. The downside to this is my URLs now looking like: http://www.mycompany.com/private/mypage instead of http://www.mycompany.com/mypage. Is there another solution to this problem, that let me keep my pretty-urls?

• Problem with Gallio and TeamCity and the new Visual Studio 2010 release

  I am running TeamCity on a virtual machine. I have installed the new Visual Studio 2010 release yesterday and converted my VS 2008 projects. I also have installed .NET Framework 4 on my virtual machine. Before yesterday all my projects were building succesfully on the CI server but since I installed VS 2010 I get the following error message : error MSB5014: File format version is not recognized. MSBuild can only read solution files between versions 7.0 and 9.0, inclusive. I did change my config on Team City to take into account the new .NET 4 framework : Build Runner : MSBuild Build File Path : CFT.msbuild MSBuild version : Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 MSBuild ToolsVersion : 4.0 Run Platform : x86 I think it has something to do with the fact that now MSBuild must refer to .NET 4 framwork but it seems that it keeps refering to 2.0.

Given N developers running a mixture of Ubuntu and Mac OS X, all with the same version of Eclipse, how to make sure that: Each developer, on top of his favourite "Available Software Sites" selection, has a common set of installation sources? Each developer has an easy (automated?) way of installing a base set of plug-ins? Each developer can just as easily install a custom plugin developed in-house and distributed over the local network? No automatically deployed plugins conflict with any others a developer might already be using? I would post this to serverfault.com if it wasn't that I am more interested in a "scripting" answer than a traditional "system management" solution... ;-)

Since the problem is NP hard I do not expect to find the optimal solution in every case, but I was wondering: 1) what are the best exact solvers? Branch and Bound? What problem instance sizes can I expect to solve with reasonable computing resources? 2) what are the best heuristic solvers? 3) What off-the-shelf solutions exist to conduct some experiments with?

  Hi, I've seen numerous answers to similar questions like this one. I haven't seen on the web many people have asked the seemingly simple question "How do I connect Access 2007 to an SQL server 2008 database" - but all of the answers describe how you can migrate from access 2007 to an sql server 2008 database, or they describe how to connect access 2007 to an sql server 2005 database. I can't find any simple solution to my problem (and probably this is a problem for many others). Here is the question (sorry for the over emphasis): How do I connect to an sql server 2008 database (and I mean 2008, not 2005 :) ) from access 2007? Apologies again for the over emphasis, but this very simple question, and what I thought should be a very simple task seems, yes, ... impossible! I tried running sql server browser, enabling pipes, TCP etc, but it seems that with 2008 SQLEXPRESS just isn't recognised! Please can someone help with this. Peter

  How can I implement a vtable COM interface in java? In the old days, I'd use the Microsft JVM, which had built in java-COM interop. What's the equivalent for a modern JRE? Answers to a similar SO question proposed JACOB. I've looked at JACOB, but that is based on IDispatch, and is aimed at controlling Automation serers. The COM interfaces I need are custom vtable (extend IUnknown), e.g. IPersistStream, IOleWindow, IContextMenu etc. For my use case, I could implement all the COM specifics in JNI, and have the JNI layer call corresponding interfaces in java. But I'm hoping for a less painful solution. It's for an open source project, so open source alternatives are preferred.

• How to turn off particular monitor with .NET?

  OK, I know there are quite a few posts on this topic. However, none of them provide the solution to my issue: I don't want just to turn off my monitor(s), I wish my code to turn off a specific monitor. The URL the most people refer to, http://fci-h.blogspot.com/2007/03/turn-off-your-monitor-via-code-c.html, doesn't help here, as it turns off all the displays. So, I have my laptop screen and an additional external monitor. While I'm watching movies, I switch the display to the external monitor and my laptop screen goes black, however, it's still on and glowing in the dark. I wish to turn it off. Could anyone help please?

• Use ISAPI filter to trace and time a WCF call?

  I'm building a web application using WCF that will be consumed by other applications as a service. Our app will be installed on a farm of web services and load balanced for scalability purposes. Occasionally we run into problems specific to one web server and we'd like to be able to determine from the response which web server the request was processed by and possibly timing information as well. For example, this request was processed by WebServer01 and the request took 200ms to finish. The first solution that came to mind was to build an ISAPI filter to add an HTTP header that stores this information in the response. This strikes me as the kind of thing somebody must have done before. Is there a better way to do this or an off-the-shelf ISAPI filter that I can use for this? Thanks in advance

• Programatically enable / disable multitouch finger input?

  I have a multitoch-enabled tablet PC running Windows 7. However, when using the stylus pen and getting too far away from the display, I often accidently hit it with my fingers which causes unwanted mouse-clicks. The solution is navigating to "Control Panel - Pen- and Finger Input - Finger Input" and deactivate the checkbox "Use the finger as an input device" (all titles translated so they might be different on an English windows). Now I am wondering whether I can do this programatically, too, so I would be able to write a little tray app for this. I tried using Process Monitor to find out registry keys, however, I did not find one which really shows the same effect as the checkbox. Does anyone know how to access this property (without using UI-Automation)? Cheers winSharp93

• XML deserialization doesn't read in second level

  Sorry if the title doesn't make much sense, but I'm not too familiar with the terminology. My question is: I have a config.xml file for a program I'm working on. I created an xsd file by 'xsd.exe config.xml'. I then took this xsd and added it to the solution in visual studio. My last step used a program called xsd2code that turned that xsd file into a class I can serialize too. The problem is it doesn't read more then a layer deep in the xml tree. By this I mean the elements in the root node get deserialized into my object, but those that are in a node inside the root node are not. I found this out by putting a breakpoint after the deserialization and looking at my object. Any Ideas? Let me know if this needs some clarification or you need a snippet of something.

  I am helping a startup business to launch and I will be building or finding a shopping cart software for its website. There will only be one product for sale, but anytime someone buys a product, I have to use customer information like their zipcode and which distributor they bought from to calculate commissions that will go to the different distributors. All the incoming money will be sent to one sort of escrow account for a few weeks, and after that few weeks is over, I need to be able to "throw the switch" and cause each of the 20,000 distributors to get their rightful share of that escrow account, depending on the data stored that reflects their sales activity and commissions due. Is this something I can write a script to handle? Better yet, is this something an inexpensive or open source solution can handle, or something that can be setup in something like Paypal? Or is a better approach to somehow create a webpage where each distributor can login to and see their commissions due and initiate the account transfer on their own, but the web app restrict them from transferring more than what they're due?   Hi, i have an big problem with an SQL Statement in Oracle. I want to select The TOP 10 Records ordered by STORAGE_DB wich arent in a list from an other select statement. This one works fine for all records: SELECT DISTINCT APP_ID, NAME, STORAGE_GB, HISTORY_CREATED, TO_CHAR(HISTORY_DATE, 'DD.MM.YYYY') AS HISTORY_DATE FROM HISTORY WHERE STORAGE_GB IS NOT NULL AND APP_ID NOT IN (SELECT APP_ID FROM HISTORY WHERE TO_CHAR(HISTORY_DATE, 'DD.MM.YYYY') = '06.02.2009') But when i am adding AND ROWNUM <= 10 ORDER BY STORAGE_GB DESC im getting some kind of "random" Records. I think because the limit takes in place before the order. Does someone has an good solution? The other problem: This query is realy slow (10k+ records)

I'll be satisfied with a solution that does either a assert(/*entry.getValue() is of type HashMap<String, Object>*/) or throws an exception when it isn't. I went down the Generics route for compile type safety and if I suppress the warning then it defeats the purpose. Thank you for your comments, ksb

• Getting LEGEND tags to wrap text properly.

  Legend tags are always a nuisance as they don't adhere to a lot of CSS rules. I'm trying to get the text within a LEGEND tag to wrap using the typical solution of wrapping the text in the LEGEND with a span and setting the width and display: block. <legend> <span style="border: 1px solid blue; width: 250px; display: block"> This text should wrap if it gets longer than 250px in width </span> </legend> I thought this used to work In Firefox, but does not appear to work anymore in 3.6. Sample: http://jsbin.com/exeno/5 It still works in IE. Has anyone found a fix for this or is it just a matter of forgoing LEGEND tags and go back to H# tags?

• How to implement didReceiveMemoryWarning ?

  Hello all , I have developed a simple location aware iPhone application which is functionally working very well to our expectations except in the low memory condition of the phone . In low memory condition of the phone my app just got crashes and If I increases the phone memory by freeing up some space it again start working well without any crash . when I do some googling on the problem I found that in the low memory conditions the os will send didReceiveMemoryWarning to all the controllers in the current hierarchy so that each one of them should implement didReceiveMemoryWarning method and also set nil to iboutlet for the view that is currently not visible . I have also read somewhere that if the view for that controller is not visible the method setView with nil parameter will be called and if there are some outlet variables attached to view there will be problem in removing them. So with all these fundas what is the best to handle low level memory condition raised by the Iphone by implementing the didReceiveMemoryWarning and viewDidUnload methods. Please give a proper example or link if possible for the solution of the above problem . thanks.

  Hello, i want to disable text selection on a UITextView. Until now what i've already done is: - (BOOL)canPerformAction:(SEL)action withSender:(id)sender { [UIMenuController sharedMenuController].menuVisible = NO; if (action == @selector(paste:)) return NO; if (action == @selector(select:)) return NO; if (action == @selector(selectAll:)) return NO; return NO; } In this away i set UIMenuController to hidden and i put a stop to text copy but the text selection is still visible. Google results (also stackoverflow) take me to no solution. Has someone already faced the same problem? Any ideas? Thanks in advance, marcio
