• Read multiple tables from dataset in Powershell

  I am using a function that collects data from a SQL server: function Invoke-SQLCommand { param( [string] $dataSource = "myserver", [string] $dbName = "mydatabase", [string] $sqlCommand = $(throw "Please specify a query.") ) $SqlConnection = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection $SqlConnection.ConnectionString = "Server=$dataSource;Database=$dbName;Integrated Security=True" $SqlCmd = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand $SqlCmd.CommandText = $sqlCommand $SqlCmd.Connection = $SqlConnection $SqlAdapter = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter $SqlAdapter.SelectCommand = $SqlCmd $DataSet = New-Object System.Data.DataSet $SqlAdapter.Fill($DataSet) $SqlConnection.Close() $DataSet.Tables[0] } It works great but returns only one table. I am passing several Select statements, so the dataset contains multiple tables. I replaced $DataSet.Tables[0] with for ($i=0;$i -lt $DataSet.tables.count;$i++){ $Dataset.Tables[$i] } but the console only shows the content of the first table and blank lines for each records of what should be the second table. The only way to see the result is to change the code to $Dataset.Tables[$i] | out-string but I do not want strings, I want to have table objects to work with. When I assign what is returned by the Invoke-SQLCommand to a variable, I can see that I have an array of datarow objects but only from the first table. What happened to the second table? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

• Execute a SQlite command with Entity Framework

  Hi everybody, I use a SQLite database and Entity Framework (with .net framework 3.5). I'm trying to execute a simple SQL non query command to create a new table in this datase. My Entity Framework already contains the object model for this table : I just want to generate the corresponding table using a command. (By the way, there is maybe a better way to do this. Any ideas someone :) My problem is that I'm not able to execute any command, even the simple commands. • Handling async ASMX web service exceptions

  Hi, I've developed silverlight client with makes async web services calls to a asmx web service. The problem is, I want to handle exceptions, so far as to be able to tell in the client application whether there was an exception in the webservice (and therefore will be logged local to the webservice) or whether there was a communication problem (i.e. the endpoint for the webservice was wrong). In testing both types of exceptions in my project I get the same generic exception: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException: The remote server returned an error: NotFound. This exception is amazingly useless when an exception occured in the webservice as it clearly has been found. Is the presence of this generic error to do with security (not being allowed to see true errors)? It can't be the fact that I don't have debug strings as I'm running on a dev PC. Either way, my question is, what's the best way to handle async errors in a commercial silverlight application? Any links or ideas are most welcome! :) Thanks a lot! Andy.

• Hibernate criteria query to match against all child collection elements

  Hi, This question is very similar to link text but the responses were minimal to that question. I have a parent class with a Set of child entities. The child entities are just a wrapper for a string and live in a different table to the parent entity. I want to have a criteria query that returns the parent entities when all the members of the set of child entities return true to a condition. This condition is matching against one of a list of strings. Here's where I am: Criteria c = criteria(); Criteria ands = c.createCriteria("ands"); Disjunction dis = Restrictions.disjunction(); for (String value : values) { dis.add(Restrictions.like("value", "%" + value + "%")); } ands.add(dis); return list(c); "ands" is the set of entities with a "value" field that is a string. "criteria()" creates a criteria for the parent class. "list()" just calls criteria.list(); This is just matching against any of the elements, rather than all. Hope this makes sense. Any help much appreciated.

• Compiling scipy on Windows 32-bit: linker error with libf77blas.a

  Has anyone tried compiling SciPy 0.7.1 on Windows using numpy-1.3.0 that was built with the pre-built ATLAS libraries (atlas3.6.0_WinNT_P4SSE2.zip) linked in the installation document. • Call functions in AutoIt DLL using Python ctypes

  I want to call functions from an AutoIt dll, that I found at C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoIt3\AutoItX\AutoItX3.dll using Python. I know I could use win32com.client.Dispatch("AutoItX3.Control") but I can't install the application or register anything in the system. So far, this is where I am: from ctypes import * path = r"C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoIt3\AutoItX\AutoItX3.dll" autoit = windll.LoadLibrary(path) Here are the methods that works: autoit.AU3_WinMinimizeAll() # windows were successfully minimized. autoit.AU3_Sleep(1000) # sleeps 1 sec. Here is my problem, python is crashing when I call other methods like this one. I get python.exe has stopped working from windows... autoit.AU3_WinGetHandle('Untitled - Notepad', '') And some other methods are not crashing python but are just not working. This one doesn't close the window and return 0: autoit.AU3_WinClose('Untitled - Notepad', '') And this other one return 1 but the window is still minimized: autoit.AU3_WinActivate('Untitled - Notepad', '') I've tested the examples with with Dispatch("AutoItX3.Control") and everything is working like expected. It seems like methods that should return something other than a string are crashing python. But still, others like WinClose are not even working... Thank you in advance for your help! EDIT: These methods are now working when using unicode strings: autoit.AU3_WinClose(u'Untitled - Notepad', u'') autoit.AU3_WinActivate(u'Untitled - Notepad', u'') And I found the prototype for AU3_WinGetHandle: AU3_API void WINAPI AU3_WinGetHandle(const char szTitle, /[in,defaultvalue("")]*/const char *szText, char *szRetText, int nBufSize); Now I see that I should get the handle from szRetText but I am not sure how...   Hi All, I'm starting to learn the android NDK and I've instantly come up against a problem. I'e built the tool chain (which took a LOT longer than I was expecting!!) and I've compiled the C++ code with no problems and now I'm trying to build the java code. Instantly I come up against a problem.   I have various HTML strings to cut to 100 characters (of the stripped content, not the original) without stripping tags and without breaking HTML. Original HTML string (288 characters): $content = "<div>With a <span class='spanClass'>span over here</span> and a <div class='divClass'>nested div over <div class='nestedDivClass'>there</div> </div> and a lot of other nested <strong><em>texts</em> and tags in the air <span>everywhere</span>, it's a HTML taggy kind of day.</strong></div>"; When trimming to 100 characters HTML breaks and stripped content comes to about 40 characters: $content = substr($content, 0, 100)."..."; /* output: <div>With a <span class='spanClass'>span over here</span> and a <div class='divClass'>nested div ove... */ Stripping HTML gives the correct character count but obviously looses formatting: $content = substr(strip_tags($content)), 0, 100)."..."; /* output: With a span over here and a nested div over there and a lot of other nested texts and tags in the ai... */ Challenge: To output the character count of strip_tags while retaining HTML formatting and on closing the string finish any started tags: /* <div>With a <span class='spanClass'>span over here</span> and a <div class='divClass'>nested div over <div class='nestedDivClass'>there</div> </div> and a lot of other nested <strong><em>texts</em> and tags in the ai</strong></div>..."; Similar question (less strict on solution provided so far)

  I've been having problems with a MySQL Server installation that got messed up after a power outage. Configuration Intel i5 Mac running OS X 10.6.5 Ruby 1.9.2 installed Rails 3.0.1 installed MySQL Server (finally) installed and running I completely reinstalled MySQL, which deleted the local development/test/production databases. So, I have run create database development; in MySQL to get the dev database ready for a migration. Current Goal Run rake db:migrate to get my databases back again. (I cannot currently access my databases or Mysql at all from Rails.) • Accessing Oracle DB through SQL Server using OPENROWSET

  I'm trying to access a large Oracle database through SQL Server using OPENROWSET in client-side Javascript, and not having much luck. Here are the particulars: A SQL Server view that accesses the Oracle database using OPENROWSET works perfectly, so I know I have valid connection string parameters. However, the new requirement is for extremely dynamic Oracle queries that depend on client-side selections, and I haven't been able to get dynamic (or even parameterized) Oracle queries to work from SQL Server views or stored procedures. Client-side access to the SQL Server database works perfectly with dynamic and parameterized queries. I cannot count on clients having any Oracle client software. Therefore, access to the Oracle database has to be through the SQL Server database, using views, stored procedures, or dynamic queries using OPENROWSET. Because the SQL Server database is on a shared server, I'm not allowed to use globally-linked databases. My idea was to define a function that would take my own version of a parameterized Oracle query, make the parameter substitutions, wrap the query in an OPENROWSET, and execute it in SQL Server, returning the resulting recordset. You must access this provider through a linked server. which makes no sense to me. The Microsoft explanation for this error relates to a registry setting (DisallowAdhocAccess). This is set correctly on my PC, but surely this relates to the DB server and not the client PC, and I would expect that the setting there is correct since the view mentioned above works. One alternative that I've tried is to eliminate the enclosing EXEC in the Open statement: rs.Open(e,db); but this generates the same error. I also tried putting the OPENROWSET in a stored procedure. This works perfectly when executed from within SQL Server Management Studio, but fails with the same error message when the stored procedure is called from Javascript. Is what I'm trying to do possible? If so, can you recommend how to fix my code? Or is a completely different approach necessary? Any hints or related information will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

  I've been struggling with this "simple" task for more expirienced people, I'm stuck for 2 days now need help. I've changed things arround like zillion times now, finally I stumbled upon this spring JMS tutorial. What I want to do, Send a message and receive it. I've been also reading this book chapter 8 on messaging. It really nicely explains 2 type of messaging and there is nice example for publish-and-subscribe type but now example for point-to-point messaging( this is the one I need). Once you’ve done this, methods on the MessageConsumer enable you to either query the Destination for messages or to register for message notification. Can somebody please direct me towards right direction, is there a tutorial which explains in details how to receive message from the queue?I have the working send message code, didn't post it here because this post is too long as it is.

  I'm parsing an RSS feed with NSXMLParser and it's working fine for the title and other strings but one of the elements is an image thats like <!CDATA <a href="http:image..etc> How do I add that as my cell image in my table view? Would I define that as an image type? • Preloading multiple comboboxes/listbox itemssource with enumerated values using WCF RIA Services

  I would like to be able to load several RIA entitysets in a single call without chaining/nesting several small LoadOperations together so that they load sequentially. I have several pages that have a number of comboboxes on them. These comboboxes are populated with static values from a database (for example status values). Right now I preload these values in my VM by one method that strings together a series of LoadOperations for each type that I want to load. For example: public void LoadEnums() { context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues1Query()).Completed += (s, e) => { this.StatusValues1 = context.StatusValues1; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues2()).Completed += (s1, e1) => { this.StatusValues2 = context.StatusValues2; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues3Query()).Completed += (s2, e2) => { this.StatusValues3 = context.StatusValues3; (....and so on) }; }; }; }; While this works fine, it seems a bit nasty. Also, I would like to know when the last loadoperation completes so that I can load whatever entity I want to work on after this, so that these enumerated values resolve properly in form elements like comboboxes and listboxes. (I think) I can't do this easily above without creating a delegate and calling that on the completion of the last loadoperation. So my question is: does anyone out there know a better pattern to use, ideally where I can load all my static entitysets in a single LoadOperation?

  I have a task management program with a "Urgency" field. Valid values are Int16 currently mapped to 1 (High), 2 (Medium), 3 (Low), 4 (None) and 99 (Closed). The urgency field is used to rank tasks as well as alter the look of the items in the list and detail view. When a user is editing or adding a new task they select or view the urgency in a ComboBox. A Converter passes Strings to replace the Ints. The urgency collection is so simple I did not make it a table in the database, instead it is a, ObservableCollection(Int16) that is populated by a method. Since the same screen may be used to view a closed task the "Closed" urgency must be in the ItemsSource but I do not want the user to be able to select it. In order to prevent the user from being able to select that item in the ComboBox but still be able to see it if the item in the database has that value should I... Manually disable the item in the ComboBox in code or Xaml (I doubt it) Change the Urgency collection from an Int16 to an Object with a Selectable Property that the isEnabled property of the ComboBoxItem Binds to. Do as in 2 but also separate the urgency information into its own table in the database with a foreign key in the Tasks table None of the above (I suspect this is the correct answer) I ask this because this is a learning project (My first real WPF and first ever MVVM project). I know there is rarely one Right way to do something but I want to make sure I am learning in a reasonable manner since it if far harder to Unlearn bad habits Thanks Mike

• Databinding between UserControls?

  I've got a situation where one of my UserControls would like to display a list of strings in a droplist, and the ItemsSource is set to another UserControl's ObservableCollection. The consumer of this data has its droplist defined in XAML like this: <ComboBox Grid.Column="1" SelectedItem="{Binding MyItem, Mode=TwoWay}" ItemsSource="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type UserControl}}, Path=DataContext.MyItems}" Margin="3"></ComboBox> MyItems is defined as an ObservableCollection<string> in the producer UserControl. Now everything works fine when the controls are loaded. As long as MyItems is populated first, and then the consumer UserControl is displayed, all of the items are there. I obviously don't get any errors in the Output Window or anything like that. The issue I have is that when the ObservableCollection is modified, those changes are not reflected in the consumer UserControl! I've never had this problem before, but all of my previous uses of ObservableCollection with updating the collection are within a single control, and databinding is not inter-UserControl. Is there something I did wrong? Is there a good way to actually debug this? Reed Copsey indicates here that inter-UserControl databinding is possible. Unfortunately, my favorite Bea Stollnitz article on WPF databinding debugging doesn't suggest anything that I could use for this particular problem.

But I am not sure how to apply it to my case? Or other methods not by forloop? Thanks and regards! • Delphi 7 SOAP Authentication and SessionID HowTo

  Hello All, I am developing a 3 tier database application. 1.) MS SQL DB 2.) Middle tier SOAP Server (with Delphi 7) connected to the DB 3.) Clients (first win32 gui (with Delphi 7) - later other platfomrs) connected to the SOAP server I chose a SOAP Server to be open to various clients at a later stage (also some of the win32 gui clients will be stationed abroad - so the clients need to be thin) (this as suggested by Dr. Bob). I am new to SOAP and have been looking at different examples and papers about authentication. But cant quite get my head around it. I have made a SOAP server and client with Delphi's SOAP Server Application Wizard and added a SOAP SERVER Data Module, added a database connection and some datasets and providers. Connected the client with dbgrid etc and that part works fine. But I want the client first to login and then be able to access data and I want the server to log each connection and also when the client logs off or is disconnected, so I am guessing I need the sessionID and a timeout. I also want the server to be able to tell the clients who else is "connected" (or whos session is still active) at any given time. I have gathered that I need to make a authentication header, but cant figure out where or who I can get a sessionID. I presume that each time a client connectes to the server the server generates a sessionID? How do I get this? In this case H is nil and the result becomes 'No authentication header received from server'. If I intersept the SOAP xml I can see that the header is there, here is the returned package: 1 1 4208687 2010-05-14T10:03:49.469+03:00 true Anyone any idea? In this case I am not using the SOAPConnetion that I am using for the DB, but a seperate HTTPTRIO component.

• Android: SharedPreference: Defaults not set at startup...

  I have Listpreferences in my app. They don't appear to be setting to their defaults right after installation - they appear to be null. I'm trying to figure out why my default preferences are not being set right after installation. In my main code I have: SharedPreferences sp = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); InUnits = sp.getString("List1", "defValue"); InAngs = sp.getString("List2", "defValue"); OutUnits = sp.getString("List3", "defValue"); OutAngs = sp.getString("List4", "defValue"); Right after the above code executes, each variable contains "defValue" instead of the actual values I have assigned in my ListPreference below. My preference xml file is called, "settings.xml". Here's what one of the ListPreferences there looks like: <ListPreference android:key="List1" android:title="Input: Alph" android:summary="Choose Alph or Ralph" android:entries="@array/inputAlph" android:entryValues="@array/input_Alph_codes" android:dialogTitle="Input Alph" android:defaultValue="ININ"/> Here's what some of my strings.xml file looks like: <string-array name="inputUnits"> <item>Alph</item> <item>Ralph</item> </string-array> <string-array name="input_Alph_codes"> <item>ININ</item> <item>INMM</item> </string-array> When I go to menu, and then settings, I can see my defaults checked (radiobuttoned). Then when I go back from the settings menu to my main screen - all is well - for life! ...then each var above is assigned the proper default value. This only happens when I first install my app on the phone. After I go to the settings screen once and then right out of it, the app is fine and accepts any setting changes. By the way, as you can see, "List1" is the android:key within a file called settings.xml in my res/xml folder.

• Filemaker to SQL Server via SSIS

  I'm using SSIS and trying to import data from Filelmaker into SQL Server. In the Solution Explorer, I right click on "SSIS Packages" and select SQL Server Import and Export Wizard". During the process, I use my DSN as the source, SQL Server as the destination, use a valid query to pull data from Filemaker, and set the mappings. Each time I try to run the package, I receive the following message: The "output column "LastNameFirst" (12)" has a length that is not valide. The length must be between 0 and 4000. I do not understand this error exactly, but in the documentation for ODBC: http://www.filemaker.com/downloads/pdf/fm9%5Fodbc%5Fjdbc%5Fguide%5Fen.pdf (page 47) it states: "The maximum column length of text is 1 million characters, unless you specify a smaller Maximum number of characters for the text field in FileMaker. FileMaker returns empty strings as NULL." I'm thinking that the data type is too large when trying to convert it to varchar. But even after using a query of SUBSTR(LastNameFirst, 1, 2000), I get the same error. Any suggestions?

• NSDate dateFromString, how to parse 'around' UTC, GMT and User locale?

  Hi I parse some values from an xml file. There is a @"25-12-2010'T'23:40:00"string with the time and date and there is a string with the GMT offset like this @"+0200". So the above time is the 25. of December 23:40:00 in timeZone +0200 GMT. (or 21:40 UTC) I have lots of these dates with different GMT offsets. I have to display these dates as they are, i.e. They must not be changed to fit the locale of the user. So if time 1: is 22:45 +0500 then that is what I must show the user, even if the user is in a different timezone. I have all sorts of trouble with displaying, calculating and parsing these strings. If I use a dateFormatter and dateFromString the user specific GMT info will be included in the resulting NSDate meaning the above will be saved as 23:40:00 +0100 GMT because that is my phones setting and maybe 23:40:00 -0400 on a user from new New York's phone. When I subsequently do subtraction, addition and comparisons between these dates I have to keep the GMT offset around and everything gets worse if the phone switches locale settings, from when the date was parsed to when the date is displayed... Is there a way for me to extract this date from the string as UTC, then save it as an interval instead of an actual (timezone dependent) date. I know that is how dates are always saved internally. But I can't figure out how to do it with the separate GMT string and taking into account the users locale. Cheers

• Using DateTime in a SqlParameter for Stored Procedure, format error

  I'm trying to call a stored procedure (on a SQL 2005 server) from C#, .NET 2.0 using DateTime as a value to a SqlParameter. The SQL type in the stored procedure is 'datetime'. Executing the sproc from SQL Management Studio works fine. But everytime I call it from C# I get an error about the date format. When I run SQL Profiler to watch the calls, I then copy paste the exec call to see whats going on. These are my observations and notes about what I've attempted: 1) If I pass the DateTime in directly as a DateTime or converted to SqlDateTime, the field is surrounding by a PAIR of single quotes, such as @Date_Of_Birth=N''1/8/2009 8:06:17 PM'' 2) If I pass the DateTime in as a string, I only get the single quotes 3) Using SqlDateTime.ToSqlString() does not result in a UTC formatted datetime string (even after converting to universal time) 4) Using DateTime.ToString() does not result in a UTC formatted datetime string. 5) Manually setting the DbType for the SqlParameter to DateTime does not change the above observations. So, my questions then, is how on earth do I get C# to pass the properly formatted time in the SqlParameter? Surely this is a common use case, why is it so difficult to get working? I can't seem to convert DateTime to a string that is SQL compatable (e.g. '2009-01-08T08:22:45') EDIT RE: BFree, the code to actually execute the sproc is as follows: using (SqlCommand sprocCommand = new SqlCommand(sprocName)) { sprocCommand.Connection = transaction.Connection; sprocCommand.Transaction = transaction; sprocCommand.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure; sprocCommand.Parameters.AddRange(parameters.ToArray()); sprocCommand.ExecuteNonQuery(); } To go into more detail about what I have tried: parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Date_Of_Birth", DOB)); parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Date_Of_Birth", DOB.ToUniversalTime())); parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Date_Of_Birth", DOB.ToUniversalTime().ToString())); SqlParameter param = new SqlParameter("@Date_Of_Birth", System.Data.SqlDbType.DateTime); param.Value = DOB.ToUniversalTime(); parameters.Add(param); SqlParameter param = new SqlParameter("@Date_Of_Birth", SqlDbType.DateTime); param.Value = new SqlDateTime(DOB.ToUniversalTime()); parameters.Add(param); parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Date_Of_Birth", new SqlDateTime(DOB.ToUniversalTime()).ToSqlString())); Additional EDIT The one I thought most likely to work: SqlParameter param = new SqlParameter("@Date_Of_Birth", System.Data.SqlDbType.DateTime); param.Value = DOB; Results in this value in the exec call as seen in the SQL Profiler @Date_Of_Birth=''2009-01-08 15:08:21:813'' If I modify this to be @Date_Of_Birth='2009-01-08T15:08:21' It works, but it won't parse with pair of single quotes, and it wont convert to a datetime correctly with the space between the date and time and with the milliseconds on the end. Update and Success First and foremost, thank you everyone for the answers. I post this for the sake of completeness and accuracy on SO - because I certainly do not do it for my pride... I had copy/pasted the code above after the request from below. I trimmed things here and there to be concise. Turns out my problem was in the code I left out, which I'm sure any one of you would have spotted in an instant. I had wrapped my sproc calls inside a transaction. Turns out that I was simply not doing transaction.Commit()!!!!! I'm ashamed to say it, but there you have it. I still don't know what's going on with the syntax I get back from the profiler. A coworker watched with his own instance of the profiler from his computer, and it returned proper syntax. Watching the very SAME executions from my profiler showed the incorrect syntax. It acted as a red-herring, making me believe there was a query syntax problem instead of the much more simple and true answer, which was that I need to commit the transaction! I marked an answer below as correct, and threw in some up-votes on others because they did, after all, answer the question, even if they didn't fix my specific (brain lapse) issue. Thanks again for the help.
