• delete rows using sql 'like' command using data from another table

  Hi All, I am trying to delete rows from a table ("lovalarm") where a field ("pointid") is like any one of a number of strings. Currently I am entering them all manually however I need to be able to have a list of over 100,000 options. My thoughts are to have a table ("lovdata") containing all possible strings and running a query to delete rows where the field is 'like' any of the strings in the other table. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to if/how I can use like in this way? Many thanks, Cap

  I have a Visual Basic project using Access database.I run a query but i don't see any new data on my database table.I don't have any exception or error.Instead of this the success messagebox is shown.   I have 6 classes and I try to use linq to Entities to get the SiglaUF information of the last deeper table (in the view - MVC). The problem is I receive the following error: "The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection." • Rails: What's the suggested approach to retrieve xml from an outside source

  Rails newbie (though long time programmer) here. I'm writing an test app that retrieves data from several outside sources (think Twitter, RSS feeds, etc.) and under certain circumstances, it stores that data in a db (or presents it to the user). The data model and the views are trivial. What I'm having difficulty with is making the actual xml HTTP call to the outside source and deserialize the xml response so I can query/use it in my controller/helper. What library/gem should I use to accomplish this? I tried looking this up around the net, but only came up with some article from 2006 which, knowing how fast Rails has developed, might well be completely deprecated. Your help is much appreciated.

When i fetch, i get 10 results, all the same word...   I've looked around and can't quite grasp the whole answer to this SQL query question needed to extract data from an MS Access 2000 table. ')); Is that a secure way to make a change?

• Can I stagger UpdatePanel updates in .NET?

  I have a situation in which I select an account and I want to bring back its details. This is a single UpdatePanel round trip and its quite quick. In addition, I need to bring back some transactional information which is from a much bigger table and takes a couple of seconds for the query to come back. Ideally, I would like to put this into a second update panel and update this additional information once it has been received, but after the first update panel has updated i.e. the user sees: Change account See account details (almost instant) See transactional info (2 seconds later) The only way I can think of doing this is to use javascript to cause a SECOND postback once the account details have been retrieved to get the transaction information. Is there a better way?

• Passing parameters among views in a navigation frame INSIDE a custom control

  I created a silverlight 3 application with a navigation frame and 3 views: search, add and edit. I used the app file to pass parameters among the 3 pages, eg: ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED = currentSnip; Then in the receiving page: currentSnip = ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED; currentSnip is a SnipItem object: public class SnipItem { public string itemID {get;set;} public string category {get;set;} public string itemDescription {get;set;} public string codeSnip {get;set;} } This worked fine until I decided to make this entire application into a user control and put that inside a second silverlight application with its own navigation frame and app file. The app files are getting confused. The first app file with all my parameter passing is not being read. I know how to pass a simple parameter between views in the first application without the app file (in a query string), but how about these custom types like my currentSnip above?

• PHP, MySQL - would results-array shuffle be quicker than "select... order by rand()"?

  I've been reading a lot about the disadvantages of using "order by rand" so I don't need update on that. I was thinking, since I only need a limited amount of rows retrieved from the db to be randomized, maybe I should do: $r = $db->query("select * from table limit 500"); for($i;$i<500;$i++) $arr[$i]=mysqli_fetch_assoc($r); shuffle($arr); (i know this only randomizes the 500 first rows, be it). would that be faster than $r = $db->("select * from table order by rand() limit 500"); let me just mention, say the db tables were packed with more than...10,000 rows. why don't you do it yourself?!? - well, i have, but i'm looking for your experienced opinion. thanks!

  Let me start by saying I have looked at many similar questions asked, but all of them relate to Timestamp and DateTime field type without indexing. At least that is my understanding. As we all know, there are certain advantages when it comes to DateTime. Putting them aside for a minute, and assuming table's engine is InnoDB with 10+ million records, which query would perform faster when criteria is based on: DateTime with index int with index In other words, it is better to store date and time as DateTime or UNIX timestamp in int? Keep in mind there is no need for any built-in MySQL functions to be used.

  There should be a simple Linq query for what I'm trying to accomplish, but I'm producing some ugly code. I have two tables, one of issues and another of issue status. There is a one-to-many relationship between issue and issue status. When an issue is created an IssueStatus is also created with the status field set to "Open" when it is closed, another IssueStatus is created with the status field set to "Closed" ... but issues can be re-opened. It seems like I should be able to write something like this: public static List<Issue> FindOpenIssues(this IList<Issue> issues) { return ( from issue in issues from issueStatus in issue.issueStatus.OrderBy(x=>x.CreatedOn).Single() where issueStatus.Status == "Open" select issue ).ToList(); } This obviously fails, but there must be a clean way to do this?   Hi guys, thanks in advance for any help on this topic! I'm sure this has a very simply answer, but I can't seem to find it (not sure what to search on!). A standard count / group by query may look like this: SELECT COUNT(`t2`.`name`) FROM `table_1` `t1` LEFT JOIN `table_2` `t2` ON `t1`.`key_id` = `t2`.`key_id` GROUP BY `t1`.`any_col` and this works as expected, returning 0 if no rows are found. So does: SELECT COUNT(`t2`.`name`) FROM `table_1` `t1` LEFT JOIN `table_2` `t2` ON `t1`.`key_id` = `t2`.`key_id` WHERE `t1`.`another_column` = 123 However: SELECT COUNT(`t2`.`name`) FROM `table_1` `t1` LEFT JOIN `table_2` `t2` ON `t1`.`key_id` = `t2`.`key_id` WHERE `t1`.`another_column` = 123 GROUP BY `t1`.`any_col` only works if there is at least one row in table_1 and fails miserably returning an empty result set if there are zero rows. I would really like this to return 0! Anyone enlighten me on this? Beer can be provided in exchange if you are in London ;-)

Assume that we have a table (in SQL Server) like this: Location Velocity Time What is the best way to determine over speed periods (speed barrier is defined) ? My first idea was loading the table into an array, and then iterate over array to find these periods: (Pseudo C# code) bool isOverSpeed = false; for (int i =0;i<arr.Length;i++) { if (!isOverSpeed) if (arr[i].Velocity > speedBarrier) { #insert the first record into another array. isOverSpeed = true; } if(isOverSpeed) if (arr[i].Velocity < speedBarrier) { #insert the record into that array isOverSpeed = false; } } It works, but somewhat "not very effectively". Is there a "smarter" way, such as a T-SQL query or another algorithm to do this?

  We have a script used for each .item: $(".item").each(function(){ item_link = "http://..."; block = $('.block', this); $.get(item_link, function(data) { var src = $('img.slide', data).attr('src'); block.html(src); }); }); item_link variable is uniquie for each query. There can be 100 .item or more. The problem is - server has limit on connections at the same time, that why some .item get var src, some not. The best solution is to use just one .get at the same time. I think there should be some counter, if .get is finished - it gives message "I'm finished, you can start" to the next .get and so on. How to do that? Thanks.

  I have an DLL which is constantly connected to a SQL Server instance. The server itself is connected with "admin" permissions, but "normal" users should be able to access the server with their own username and password. The server would still be connected a "admin". I just want to check if the user can access the database. Is there a way to authenticate the user using a SQL query? It would of course be possible to add a encrypted "password" column to a database table for users, but I would prefer not having to do that.

• Can an Oracle user get a list of its own running sessions without access to v$session?

  I have an application that runs a process and I only want one process to run at a time. Some options are: Use an object lock to prevent subsequent processes running. This would be fine, but I want the calling session to return immediately and not wait for the running session to complete. Use a custom Y/N to set whether a process is running or not. I set a "Y" flag at the start of the process and set it to "N" when it finishes or fails. Also fine but feels like I'm re-inventing the wheel and doesn't feel like the way to go. It also falls short if the running session is killed as the flag stays at "Y". Use dbms_application_info.set_module This approach seems the most robust, but if I'm to know there's an existing running process I think I need to be able to query v$session and I don't want this application to have such wide access. Any ideas?
