I use Virtual Box on a Mac OS X 10.6.2 MacBook Pro.
Can I create/run a Mac OS X 10.5 guest OS on this setup?
If not, what setup would allow me to run multiple versions of Mac OS X on the same machine?
Hi, is it possible to set up an Apache server on a machine which is part of a LAN, then allow machines on the LAN to access the server via a custom ServerName (instead of Localhost). I want to serve a simple website in an office space using a short ServerName (no ports etc if possible), but I want to make sure this is possible (after originally…
I have 2 websites, site A running on port 80 and site B configured to run on port 8080.
I can access site A no problem, but site B I can only access from the local web server machine. Externally it is not accessable, I have tried the url and ip and neither work. I have tried different configuring on port 8081 as a test and that didnt work…

Every now and then, the trackpad on my MacBook Pro will seem to set its own tracking speed to slow.
I’ll notice that the cursor is moving slowly, and when I check in System Preferences, the tracking speed is indeed at slow, even though I never set it to slow myself.
This might happen before/after switching into a VMWare virtual machine,…
Hi,
Basically I am looking for a download manager, which I can run on my server to download rapidshare files, while also being able to access it over the network via a standalone client application or web interface on another machine.
I use azsmrc for azureus, so something similar to this would be great.
Any ideas?
I have a dual-boot Windows 7 64 bit/Linux 64 bit machine that uses ATI's Catalyst drivers. Sometimes I attach it to a 1080p LCD TV over HDMI. ATI is daft enough to provide a border to account for overscan.
I'm using an LCD TV. No overscan, or it looks like crap because the pixel mapping is not 1:1. How do I disable this driver "feature"…
For example:
Lets say i have 10 servers (Server 1-Server10) and a csv list where i have the servernames and a individual Foldername/Path for each server.
How would i create these Folders on each machine?
a) Open all 10 connections and run a command based on the csv ?
b) stepping through 1by1
Please point me to the most effective way
Hi,
I want to enable file sharing between servers and clients, both linux. I don't want to rely on machine trust like in NFSv4 because client users will have root privileges. What are my options besides SMB (SAMBA)? Does OpenAFS support user level authentication & access? Using mounted WebDAV/ftp/sshfs seems silly for LAN.
Is it possible for a rails web application to make use of the windows authentication features in its code. I am looking at being able to obtain the user's login name and domain in the application. But there is a catch.
This particular web application runs off an apache web server hosted on a linux machine which is kind of networked to…

Hi,
I'm running one videos streamming site using lighttpd, but at the moment the badwith of the server is at 50%, memory is ok, disks ok... But lighttpd is giving me timeouts.
I think that if I had 2 or 3 lighttpd services running in the same machine I can solve this issue.
How can I setup this?
Regards,
Pedro
I just built a Windows 7 Image using sysprep and a custom answer file that's supposed to attach to our domain. However, it did not attach to the domain and so I have a computer that has been automatically setup via unattend.xml and is sitting at a login screen; with no active users (Administrator account says it is disabled).
Is…
I'm building my first Windows 2008 Server Core machine (running R2) and want to rename the IPv4 network interfaces to something more meaningful.
It seems most likely that this is done using netsh interface ipv4 set but looking through the help hasn't turned anything up.
Could someone please advise the correct procedure?

Doing copy/paste in Visual Studio 2010 RTM on Windows 7, 3GB ram machine, I was unable to copy text because of an error:
Task Manager shows that devenv.exe is using a little more than 500MB. However I still have almost 1GB of free RAM available.
Is that somekind of memory cap? If so, is there a way to increase it? It may be a…
I'm getting this trace:
(process: 462) GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)
I have Windows 7 currently installed on the machine, and was booting off a cd with the Ubuntu 10 ISO on it.
Is there some way to boot a Linux system from a VHD in Windows 7?
If there is a way, how do I put it there in the first place?
EDIT: To clarify, I'm not trying to run Linux in a VM. I'm trying to boot it in my physical machine, from a VHD, as I can do with Windows 7.
The windows backup utility comes with an option to backup the system-state. What is this for? Has it a real utility? Can I recover that windows on another machine?
I have a machine with Windows XP, Server 2003 R2, and Server 2008 R2.
Right now, bootmgr has one entry for Server 2008 R2 and one entry for ntldr, which then leads to the ntldr boot.ini menu.
Is it possible to add two different nt52 entries on two partitions so that I can access all three OSes from the bootmgr menu?
Right now,…
The Windows 7 menu item highlight effect is quite subtle - on my machine, menu items go from light grey to having a light blue shading. This makes it quite hard to tell at a glance which exact menu item is highlighted at any one time. You can see an example (from Firefox) here:
Is there an easy way to increase the contrast of…
I have newly installed machine on which i have installed the IIS. On each of the sites I am installing requests are not reaching the site pages. However, if I send a request with the path of a HTML/image file explicitly the resource is accessible.
Also, I do not get the "Create Virtual Directory" option in IIS. I only have…
I have some customers accessing a hosted terminal server. The machine is windows server 2008 and they are using the Easy Print driver.
Trouble is, a 200Kb file spooled size is 24MB. You can imagine how slow it is for them to be able to print?
Any options to sort this before resorting to some other product, all of which…
I'm potentially interested in acquiring a CULV machine. I like the idea of a netbook, but need a little more horsepower. So, of course, I need to obsess over a hundred different reviews first.
Can you recommend some good sources of CULV reviews? Anandtech recently ran a roundup, but I'd prefer sites that have ongoing…
I would like to use existing Radius server to provide AAA for users which are logging to a Windows XP machine.
Cisco can use Radius, Linux (via PAM) as well, is it possible for Windows XP?
