  • How to automate downloading files?

    I got a book which had a pass to access digital versions of hi-res scans of much of the artwork in the book. Amazing! Unfortunately the presentation of all the these are 177 pages of 8 images each with links to zip files of jpgs. It is extremely tedious to browse, and I would love to be able to get all the files at once rather than sitting and clicking through each one separately. archive_bookname/index.1.htm - archive_bookname/index.177.htm each of those pages have 8 links each to the files linking to files such as <snip>/downloads/_Q6Q9265.jpg.zip, <snip>/downloads/_Q6Q7069.jpg.zip, <snip>/downloads/_Q6Q5354.jpg.zip. that don't quite go in order. I cannot get a directory listing of the parent /downloads/ folder. Also, the file is behind a login-wall, so doing a non-browser tool, might be difficult without knowing how to recreate the session info. I've looked into wget a little but I'm pretty confused and have no idea if it will help me with this. Any advice on how to tackle this? Can wget do this for me automatically?

  • Operating system not found after downloading skin pack

    My brother has downloaded a executable file from Skin Pack — I believe it was the Mountain Lion IO6 skin pack. He's using an Acer Aspire 553G. And now his operating system won't start (Windows 7). It gets to the BIOS and then goes to load up the OS but the screen goes blank and it just goes back to the BIOS over and over again. He decided to play with the bootup settings and tried different options and got the error message "Operating System not found." Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?

  • Downloading Emails locally with Thunderbird

    I am using Gmail (web interface) for sometime now, and have well over 20 labels and some thousand mails there archived to different labels in Gmail. Now I want to have a local copy of all my mails and following points are important in the context: The Primary mail access mechanism would continue to be Gmail web for me. I just want a backup of my mail account locally. Ideally the mails should download locally in folders named after Gmail labels (I know this is possible via IMAP but probably not by POP) After all my mails are available locally, I will delete most of them in Gmail to free up space and because I want to archive them. The mails should continue to exist locally and should not be deleted when I delete when from Gmail web interface. I would be syncing my gmail account locally let's say every month. So, the new mails that I have sent/received during this period should come over to my local mailbox in the folders named after Gmail labels. I do understand that Gmail maintains a single copy of email having 2 different labels and such email would get duplicated locally in the 2 folders and I am okay with that. Essentially you can see I just want to archive my mails from the Gmail server to a local backup and then sync (one way from Gmail to locally) new mails at regular intervals. For some points above, POP seems to be the option while IMAP seems for the others. I am really confused and need help in deciding which of POP or IMAP would suit me best. I have currently chosen Thunderbird to be my local email client but would not have a problem switching to Outlook or anything else as long as I get my desired archiving functionality.

    Hello, I know of the "wget" function in shell, but I'm running perl from the command line on a windows machine and I was looking for a method of sequentially downloading the web source code from a site. For example: for www.abcd.com has the extension of it's subsites as 1,2,3 etc such that www.abcd.com/1 or www.abcd.com/2 is the syntax. I would like the source to be labeled as 1.source, 2.source etc for a defined set of pages 1-100 say. Thanks for the help, Jake

  • Can't remember the website for downloading common tools after reinstall

    I remember a while back finding a website for downloading lots of common tools in one go after a system reinstall. It had a dark background and checkboxes for selecting the tools (browsers, editors, readers, im clients, etc.). After selecting the tools it downloaded a file which went away, downloaded everything you'd selected and then performed an install on each of the different apps. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

This all works fine and if i stream the video from online it plays fine. Or indeed I can stream it from the resource folder fine. However, after downloading it and saving to the documents folder then attempting to stream I get the error 'movie format not supported' any ideas? thanks very much

    Hi, I have to write a php script to download potentially large files. The file I'm reporting here works fine most of the times. However, if the client's connection is slow the request ends (with status code 200) in the middle of the downloading, but not always at the very same point, and not at the very same time. I tried to overwrite some php.ini variables (see the first statements) but the problem remains. I don't know if it's relevant but my hosting server is SiteGround, and for simple static file requests, the download works fine also with slow connections. I know one of the sample applications is called jpetstore in spring 2.0. I did search in these folders and can't find anything useful. By the way, I also download the basic release which is spring-framework-3.0.2.RELEASE.zip. In the readme.txt of the basic release I found the following text: GETTING STARTED Please consult the blog examples at http://blog.springsource.com as well as the sections of interest in the reference documentation. Sample applications and related material will be provided as separate downloads. But I still don't know where to download the sample applications. Anyone can help? Thanks in advance.

  • Downloading file from server (asp.net) to IE8 Content-Disposition problem with file name

    I am downloading a file from the server/database via aspx page. When using the content-disposition inline the document opens in correct application but the file name is the same as the web page. I want the document to open in say MS Word but with the correct file name. Here is the code that I am using Response.Buffer = true; Response.ClearContent(); Response.ClearHeaders(); Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = MimeType(fileName); //function to return the correct MIME TYPE Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", @"inline;filename=" + fileName); Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", image.Length.ToString()); Response.BinaryWrite(image); Response.Flush(); Response.Close(); So again, I want the file to open in MS Word with the correct document file name so that the user can properly save/view. Ideas? thanks

The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later. After googling, I suspect that it's the problem of the response header. So best practice should be remember last update of feed and control it for change in x-hour interval? And how to handle if downloader will be restarted? So downloader should remember, what were downloaded and dont download it again... It's somewhere implemented yet? Or any tips for article? Thanks

    I've been fooling around with code for ages on this one, I would be very grateful if someone could provide a code sample that downloaded this file from a server http://www.archive.org/download/june_high/june_high_512kb.mp4, (By the way it's not actually this file, it's just a perfect example for anyone trying to help me) and then play it from the documents directory. I know it seems lazy of me to ask this but I have tried so many different variations of NSURLConnection that it's driving me crazy.
