  • SOHO NETGEAR wireless router disconnects when downloading torrents

    I have a NETGEAR WGT624 wireless router at home which dies when there is a heavy torrent load. I open up my torrent client and it downloads for about 5 to 10 minutes and it continues to increase the number of seeds (goes up to 70-80 seeds), but after that the router simply fails and I have to restart it in order to get an internet connection again. When I connect directly via an ethernet cable the router and open up the torrent client, then it seems to be doing fine, but when I go wireless then the router stops working properly (although all the lights are still blinking as normal). Is there any way that I can fix this? New router firmware? Change some router options? Feed it a cookie? Anything?

I have a 3 yr old MacBook Pro and lately I've been getting an error msg when I try to download something to my machine, This is what it says: Download error /Users/scarletriley/Downloads/the name of document goes here- no spaces of course! could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred.     I want to download Microsoft Security Essentials on my brand new Windows 7 home PC. The official site presented to me is http://windows.microsoft.com/de-CH/windows/products/security-essentials, as I am located in Switzerland. The link to the actual package then is http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=231276 Obviously, the download is not secured with https. Why? Would this not be the first thing Microsoft should do? They could deliver the certificate already with the OS to make it really secure...

    I come from a part of the world where the average Hollywood movie is released a year + later than in US. For example: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be released only 5-6 months down the lane. The Reader, I think will not be released at all. Is this a right justification for me to download movies from the torrent networks and watch them? Even if I don’t share it? P.S I don’t think my country has all these American type cyber laws to catch me. It’s just the guilt feeling. Note: SuperUser is not a legal resource.

    Hi, I'm trying to mirror a very large site but wget never seems to finish properly. I am using the command: wget -r -l inf -nc -w 0.5 {the-site} I have downloaded a good portion of the site, but not the whole thing. The content does not change fast enough to bother using time-stamping. After running overnight, this message appears: File `{filename}.html' already there; not retrieving. Killed does anyone know what is happening and how I can fix it?

    There are those plugins that can capture flash videos from websites like Youtube and others. There's also the browsing cache which keeps the videos and I can copy them somewhere else and have them stored on my computer. I know of these, but how can I download a video from a website that (I think) is all flash because the address doesn't change wherever you navigate to and so it stays the same when you play a video that's on the website? No plugin I've tried (realplayer, ant video downloadr, IDM) have worked with it and nothing gets cached from that website.

  • Intermittent extrememly long response times when downloading documents

    I have a Java web application running om Tomcat 7 with an Apache httpd 2.2 fronting with mod_jk/AJP. One part of the application is serving files (up to 4mb size). Now, normally this all runs very smooth with stable, low response-times. However, in rare instances (<0.1% of downloads), the downloadtime will go beyond 1 minute. After activating the ThreadStuckValve in Tomcat, I can see that the long responses seem to be stuck at org.apache.tomcat.jni.Socket.sendbb(Native method) i.e network I/O. At most, these long-running downloads take 5 minutes, which I strongly suspect is because of the default 300 second timout in Apache 2.2 (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/core.html, "TimeOut directive"). To me, this looks like network problems. The Apache timeout (if that is what is kicking in at the 5 minute mark) indicates that ACK packets are not being transmitted correctly. My questions are what could be causing this? Closed browser at receiving end but socket not signaled as closed properly? Packet loss or some other network failure in transit? Where would I start troubleshooting this? We're running Tomcat and Apache on Windows server 2008-R2 in a vmware virtualized server.

  • Re-downloading accidentally deleted podcasts in iTunes

    I deleted some previously deleted podcast episodes in iTunes 9 and I'd like to re-download them. (I don't want to manually re-download them because then they won't show up in the podcast's list in the iTunes Podcast section.) I've read http://blog.krisgielen.be/archives/54 as well as Way to get old podcasts in iTunes where the suggestion is to delete the iTunes entries for the podcasts I'd like to recover, then hold shift while re-opening that podcast's little triangle icon. Here's the problem though: holding shift and re-opening the triangle tells iTunes to refresh the RSS feed, and it's possible that the RSS feed no longer contains the item you want. What I'm really looking for is a means of getting the "Get" button (that normally appears on un-downloaded podcasts) to reappear on the episodes I've previously downloaded but deleted.

    I pretty much summarized the problem in the title. I tried to get some solutions. All I found was check if the Chrome has any concurrent or erroneous applications installed on my computer that conflicts with Chrome (by typing chrome://conflicts). But "unfortunately" it said that there are no perceived conflicts. First I thought it is only with Chrome, but soon I saw that no. All internet browsers are affected. I noticed this problem after I installed Fruity Loops, but uninstalling it didn't solve the problem. Maybe Fruity loops is not the guilty reason. Have any of you met this problem before? What should I do? Thank you. UPDATE: Sorry I forgot that this is under Windows 8.1.

  • How to bypass Forefront TMG for downloading from Adobe Cloud

    I hope that this question has not been asked as I've spent a couple of days googling around trying to find a solution. I have one computer that needs to download from Adobe Cloud to install applications like Photoshop etc... The issue I'm having is that Adobe uses a download manager program (AdobeApplicationManager.exe) that just keeps incrementing the time left on the download of any app like Photoshop. Is there a way to allow just the download manager from that one computer to bypass any filtering settings in Forefront TMG 2010? I have very little knowledge of servers / ISA servers / Forefront TMG and have been thrown into this position by luck I guess. Any help with this would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Trouble Downloading from some sites

    I am trying to download the new Microsoft Security Essentials but when I click on the Download button instead of getting the Download box popup nothing comes up. The progess bar at the bottom shows it doing something then when it reaches 100% nada. I can down load from HP (Drivers) and sites like Majorgeeks with no problem. I also have this problem on the Adobe download page when trying to get the shockwave and flash player. I am fixing my Granddaughters laptop that she got from someone else. There were over 26 Trojans listed on it when I installed AVG and they would not go away. I used CCleaner and HiJack This and deleted everything I could and wiped the freespace. Then ran AVG again and this time after finding a few Trojans and deleting them the system was reported as clean. IE8 then would not connect to the net so I used my computer to DL a copy and put it on the laptop, after that I was able to use the laptop to connect to the net and download a driver to get the sound working again.     Hi, For some reason since we rolled out IE7 to the estate users are unable to download from the Internet, they get an error message "the operation could not be completed due to restrictions on the computer" I have checked the GPO and it allows downloads in the Default domain policy. I've tried curl "ftp://myftpsite" --user name:password -Q "CWD /users/myfolder/" -O "myfile.raw" But it returns an error that says: curl: Remote file name has no length! curl: try 'curl --help' or 'curl --manual' for more information curl: (6) Could not resolve host: myfile.raw; No data record of requested type I've tried some other methods, but nothing seems to work. Also, I'm not quite sure how to specify which folder I want the file to be downloaded to. How would I do that?

For that I need it to be in a fixed setup of Thunderbird and add-ons (Lightning, SyncKolab) without automatic updates and I need to present version of Thunderbird to be available for the users. What I hope to achieve is that the repository for Thunderbird as it is now on http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozillateam/thunderbird-stable/ will be available on my local server so I always use that version even if Thunderbird goes to a new stable version. What I hope to achieve is this: - I copy the content of http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozillateam/thunderbird-stable/ to my server - I make it available as a repository on my network I neither know if this is possible or allowed under the license etc.

    Forgive me if this is a stupid question or an inapproptiate place to ask. This is my first time attempting to download source by means of bazaar (launchpad). Regardless of the package or branch...
