  • Finding C++ static initialization order problems

    We've run into some problems with the static initialization order fiasco, and I'm looking for ways to comb through a whole lot of code to find possible occurrences. Any suggestions on how to do this efficiently? Edit: I'm getting some good answers on how to SOLVE the static initialization order problem, but that's not really my question. I'd like to know how to FIND objects that are subject to this problem. Evan's answer seems to be the best so far in this regard; I don't think we can use valgrind, but we may have memory analysis tools that could perform a similar function. That would catch problems only where the initialization order is wrong for a given build, and the order can change with each build. Perhaps there's a static analysis tool that would catch this. Our platform is IBM XLC/C++ compiler running on AIX.

  • Why is this exception thrown in the visual studio C compiler?

    Hello. I am trying to get more adept and my C programming and I was attempting to test out displaying a character from the input stream while inside of the loop that is getting the character. I am using the getchar() method. I am getting an exception thrown at the time that the printf statement in my code is present. (If I comment out the printf line in this function, the exception is not thrown). Exception: Unhandled exception at 0x611c91ad (msvcr90d.dll) in firstOS.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00002573. Here is the code... Any thoughts? Thank you. PS.   • How to place an element at the bottom of a page, without declaring a position?

    I have a row of icons that need to be at the bottom of the page, they also need to be fixed. Simple, right? Not. When you position them fixed, the icons fall into one another so only one icon shows. Well there goes that, but there also goes the chance of placing them at the bottom of the page since I need #icons { position:fixed; bottom:0; } I could always manually place them, but this means they cant be fixed like I need them too, and I would have to declare it for different browsers. Help?   • How to achieve vertical div alignment in unique situation?

    Go to my blog and please tell me how to achieve vertical alignment :( My situation truly is different and I need help :) The reason this is so difficult is because holder is the div that contains everything, outer are the icons at the bottom, and tooltip are the divs that pop up. I need tooltip to be vertically aligned but they are actually below outer. Each icon is connected to their post so you can't keep them all in one div.

  • I'm looking for a reliable way to verify T-SQL stored procedures. Anybody got one?

    Hi all-- We're upgrading from SQL Server 2005 to 2008. Almost every database in the 2005 instance is set to 2000 compatibility mode, but we're jumping to 2008. Our testing is complete, but what we've learned is that we need to get faster at it. I've discovered some stored procedures that either SELECT data from missing tables or try to ORDER BY columns that don't exist. Wrapping the SQL to create the procedures in SET PARSEONLY ON and trapping errors in a try/catch only catches the invalid columns in the ORDER BYs. It does not find the error with the procedure selecting data from the missing table. SSMS 2008's intellisense, however, DOES find the issue, but I can still go ahead and successfully run the ALTER script for the procedure without it complaining. So, why can I even get away with creating a procedure that fails when it runs? Are there any tools out there that can do better than what I've tried? The first tool I found wasn't very useful: DbValidator from CodeProject, but it finds fewer problems than this script I found on SqlServerCentral, which found the invalid column references. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Check Syntax of Database Objects -- Copyrighted work.     We are upgrading our XL C/C++ compiler from V8.0 to V10.1 and found some code that is now giving us an error, even though it compiled under V8.0. Here's a minimal example: test.h: #include <iostream> #include <string> template <class T> void f() { std::cout << TEST << std::endl; } test.cpp: #include <string> #include "test.h" namespace { std::string TEST = "test"; } int main() { f<int>(); return 0; } Under V10.1, we get the following error: "test.h", line 7.16: 1540-0274 (S) The name lookup for "TEST" did not find a declaration. "test.cpp", line 6.15: 1540-1303 (I) "std::string TEST" is not visible. "test.h", line 5.6: 1540-0700 (I) The previous message was produced while processing "f<int>()". "test.cpp", line 11.3: 1540-0700 (I) The previous message was produced while processing "main()". We found a similar difference between g++ 3.3.2 and 4.3.2. I also found in g++, if I move the #include "test.h" to be after the unnamed namespace declaration, the compile error goes away. So here's my question: what does the Standard say about this? When a template is instantiated, is that instance considered to be declared at the point where the template itself was declared, or is the standard not that clear on this point? I did some looking though the n2461.pdf draft, but didn't really come up with anything definitive.

  • MS NPS denying access, can't validate server certificate

    At my office we use a Cisco WLC2504 wireless controller and starting about a week ago we started having problems with users connecting to one of our secure wireless network. We are running AD on Windows Server 2008 R2 and use network policy server to control access to our wireless network. When I look at the logs in event viewer after a failed connection attempt I see an access reject message: Reason Code: 262 Reason: The supplied message is incomplete. The signature was not verified. Looking this up on Google I found this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838502 I tried disabling server certificate validation on my computer and as soon as I did that I was able to connect to the network, so it seems that there is some sort of certificate validation issue. I'm not sure which certificate is unable to be validated or how to fix it. This used to work and stopped suddenly by itself so I am thinking a certificate may have expired. When I go to NPS Policies Network Policies My policy Constraints Auth methods Microsoft PEAP and view the properties, the certificae specified here expires in 2016, so doesn't seem as though this could be the problem. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?

    i don't know how to open a specific port (rtmp=1935) on my CentOS server using Plesk or itables. I created new rules for port 1935 i/o using Plesk/Modules/Firewall but this doesn't work. Nmap scanning tells me this : 1935/tcp filtered rtmp .     Summary I'm attempting to create an AWS CloudFormation template which contains an instance for which I want to select a particular subnet. If I specify the subnet ID then I get the following error The parameter groupName cannot be used with the parameter subnet. From reading this thread it appears I need to provide security group IDs - not names. How can I create a security group in CloudFormation and then get its ID after the fact?   • Ubuntu Hardy : Testing for environment variables in udev rules doesn't seem to work

    I have a Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (server edition), and I need to write a udev rule for it to act upon plugging a USB thumb drive. However, I need a different action depending on the filesystem of the drive. I know I can use the ID_FS_TYPE environment variable to check for the filesystem on the drive. Following instructions found here, I try a dummy udev rule as such : KERNEL!="sd[a-z][0-9]", GOTO="my_udev_rule_end" ACTION=="add", RUN+="/usr/bin/touch /tmp/test_udev_%E{ID_FS_TYPE}" ACTION=="add", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="vfat", RUN+="/usr/bin/touch /tmp/test_udev_it_works" LABEL="my_udev_rule_end" However, when I plug in a thumb drive with a vfat filesystem (which should trigger both rules), I end up with a file called /tmp/test_udev_vfat, meaning the first rule was triggered successfully, and that the ID_FS_TYPE environment variable is "vfat", but I don't have the other file, meaning that although I know the ID_FS_TYPE env variable is "vfat", I can't seem to check against it for a match. I tried googling the thing, but pretty much every result seems to assume ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="vfat" works. I also tested the exact same udev rule on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server, and I have the same result. I'm probably missing something very simple, but I just don't get it. Does anyone see what is wrong with my udev rule that would prevent it from matching on ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}? Thanks.

  • Looking for software to create a personal hotspot on Mac OS X (not using the built-in ability)

    I got my nifty little MacBook Air today. Since I will be going on travel I was hoping to use my iPad 3G as screen extension with Air Display. It works being in a shared WiFi network. Sadly Apple is a bit restrictive on the tethering with their mobile devices such as the iPad. Now I read iOS 4.3 will enable the iPad to use tethered networks. But the feature will not be working for iPad 3G. I assume their big partner telecom companies fear everyone will quit their internet contract with them. So I want to create a personal hotspot on my MacBook and use it on my iPad. But the iPad is not able to use this network. The network is visible but not usable. On Windows there is this connectify program which lets the PC act as wireless router. Does anybody know a similar program for Mac which would turn it into a wireless router? Or is there something I don't see with Mac OS X's builtin features?

  • Permissions problems with Apache / SVN

    I am installed a SVN server (v1.6) on a VPS contracted with CentOS 5, Apache 2.2 with WHM panel. I installed and configured all necessary modules and am able to create and access repositories via my web browser normally. The problem: I can not commit or import anything, always return permission errors: First error: Can not open file '/var/www/svn/test/db/txn-current-lock': Permission denied After fix the previous error: Can't open '/var/www/svn/test/db/tempfile.tmp': Permission denied And other... (and happends many others) Can't open file '/var/www/svn/test/db/txn-protorevs/0-1m.rev': Permission denied I've read and executed permissions on numerous tutorials regarding this errors, all without success. I've defined the owner as apache or nobody and different permissions for folders and files. I'm using TortoiseSVN to connect to the server. Some information that may find useful: I'm trying to perform commit through an external HTTP connection, like: svn commit http://example.com/svn/test SELinux is disabled. sestatus returns SELinux status: disabled Running the command to see the active processes of Apache, some processes are left with user/group "nobody". I tried changing the settings of Apache to not run with that user/group, but all my websites stopped working, returning this error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.   • Dual-boot two instances of the same copy of Vista using same serial number

    I have a single Vista OEM registration number which has been registered to the current hardware (single partition only), and I want to use it for two instances of dual-booted Vista... Because both Vistas will be running on the same hardware, (and obviously only one at any one time), will they both be recognized as genuine to Windows Update etc... ie will they both pass the Windows Genuine Advantage requirements? .. The only difference between the hardware involved will be the partition. Also, are there any special issues with dual (tripple?) booting two instances of Vista and also one Ubuntu OS?

  • Can't make Dovecot communicate with Postfix using SASL (warning: SASL: Connect to private/auth failed: No such file or directory)

    Solved. I will leave this as a reference to other people, as I have seen this error reported often enough on line. I had to change the path smtpd_sasl_path = private/auth in my /etc/postfix/main.cf to relative, instead of absolute. This is because in Debian Postfix runs chrooted (and how does this affect the path structure?! Anyone?) -- I am trying to get Dovecot to communicate with Postfix for SMTP support via SASL. the master plan is to be able to host multiple e-mail accounts on my (Debian Lenny 64 bits) server, using virtual users. Whenever I test my current configuration, by running telnet server-IP smtp I get the following error on mail.log warning: SASL: Connect to /var/spool/postfix/private/auth failed: No such file or directory Now, Dovecot is supposed to create the auth socket file, yet it doesn't. I have given the right privileges to the directory private, and even tried creating a auth file manually. The output of postconf -a is cyrus dovecot Am I correct in assuming from this that the package was compiled with SASL support? My dovecot.conf also holds client { path = /var/spool/postfix/private/auth mode = 0660 user = postfix group = postfix } I have tried every solution out there, and am pretty much desperate after a full day of struggling with the issue. Can anybody help me, pretty please?

I have found some programs that allow me to see the network, so I know the hardware works. However, this program does not allow me to pick the correct program to play the files I want. I suspect the problem lies somewhere on the XP side. This would probably work better if the Archos 5 allowed me to manually input the IP address. Help?
