  • What is a quick and easy way to make a minimal news blog that pulls rss feeds? I have 2 days [on hold]

    My boss wants me to make a website that pulls news from various rss feeds from all over the web. I need to pull something together, that looks pro, quick! I started by going to themeforest and looked around forever, but nothing really looked right. I need something mostly built like this already that I can just alter into our site. I can do most cms, photoshop, some code, I used to do it like this freelance years ago, but it's not really my job now. It just sort of came up suddenly, so I wanna pull through. This is a good example of the overall structure I had in mind, but it just isn't clean enough. All of the news feeds will essentially be about the same criteria, but will pertain to different geographic areas. It would be a huge plus if I could segregate the news visually in some clever way based on geography. (Like a map?) I'm definitely open to all suggestions. I have to get this done by friday!

  • html newsletter email arriving as an attachment

    Hello, I'm using C# to send email newsletters for subscribers. There's no problem with sending the email but some email clients like outlook and hotmail receive html newsletter as an attachment and the email body contains only plaintext with html tags removed and some clients like gmail receive the email just fine. What actually creates this behavior? If i put just few html tags in to message outlook and hotmail shows the newsletter fine but as i put in more html elements my mail arrives as attachment. I've been trying to find out how to make my email appear ok in most popular email clients like outlook but have had no success so far. Anyone care to enlighten me how this email + html stuff actually works?

  • A web application that uses someone else's mail server?

    I'm building a web application, call it http://mywebapp.com, where a user should be able to create a newsletter and email it to everyone in his user account's contact list. So he can check mark all his friends, select an html template, fill in the body content, and send. The only catch to this is that after the user sends the email, the recipient must NOT be allowed to trace the source of the email back to http://mywebapp.com. The reason for this condition is because the user is a "reseller" of my business who wants to appear as if he's an independent business. If liability issues arise due to the reseller's unduly usage, I do not want to be caught up in the legal issues. Hence, I do not want anything about my business or technology to be traceable back to me by newsletter recipients. What's the best way to achieve this?

  • Avoid PHP timeout when sending newsletter

    Hi, I have recently implemented the Swiftmailer library, but the first time I used it, I got a php timeout error even though it only had to send out mails to around 300 people.. (I should mention that using the set_time_limit(0); workaround is not an option due to restrictions on the server) The way I use it is like this: $transport = Swift_SmtpTransport::newInstance('smtp.mydomain.com',25); $mailer = Swift_Mailer::newInstance($transport); $message = Swift_Message::newInstance(); $message->setSubject($_POST['subj']); $message->setFrom(array('email' => 'Mysite')); $message->setTo($recipients); $message->setBody(strip_tags($messagebody)); $message->addPart($messagebody, 'text/html'); $numSent = $mailer->batchSend($message); printf("Sent %d messages\n", $numSent); where $recipients is a commaseparated array of emails (built with explode() from a mySQL query).. I have no idea which part of the above code that generates the script-timeout, and since I use it for a newsletter function, it is rather difficult for me to test or debug it, so I would be really thankful for anyone coming up with a (near) bulletproof solution to this problem :) Thanks in advance !     I'm new in ASP.NET MVC2. But I want to develop a simply Newsletter site. The main problem which stuck me is how correctly use MVC pattern in News details and comments list. For example: I have a NewsController and action Details inside. And two model classes News and Comments. I want show all comments belongs to this News record and textarea for adding new comments. I wand display all this content in /News/Details/ How can i do it? I tried use PartialViews in Details View: one for Adding Comment and another for Comment list. I have passed comment object thorough ViewData["Comment"]. But i have problems with my models (think I cant use two models in View) Again. How can I display Single Post + Comments + add comment view at single page using ASP.NET MVC2? Another Example is stackoverflow.com. Here is an question + answers + write answer. I need same structure

  • Obtain user activity data in emails after I programmatically mail out emails

    If I were to build a newsletter emailing system, I will need to be able to generate reports on how many emails bounced, flagged as spam, unsubscribed, read vs. unread, click through rates etc.... So how do you keep track of user activity after the email has been sent? Am I right in assuming that you CAN NOT embed javascript code into emails to monitor user activity? How else do I gather data for my reports?

  • Is there any reasons to prefer SparkViewEngine over XSLT (or vice versa) for a standalone email gene

    I have a service that receives an object containing all the data needed to build a newsletter. I need to be able to generate the email using different templates. I don't want to involve the whole ASP.NET stack for that, so I want a separate templating engine. Reading a lot of opinions, I have found that XSLT was not getting very much love when it comes to templating engines. Why? SparkViewEngine is a "new cool toy", but it seems mature enough considering the number of projects that have been built with it. What do you think? Did you used those 2 engines? in which situation, and what strength/pain did you enjoy/endure

  • How to reduce size of html rendered from ASP.net ?

    I'm developing a newsletter in asp.net that will be send to a large quantity of users, so each kilobyte that I can reduce will help a lot in the use of bandwidth consumption, what I do until know is write the aspx excluding some spaces between tags, and before render, i've renamed some controls ids to "-" to save more space. So now, the file has 50kb. I need a file with 25 Kb. Can anyone teach me any other way do save more space ? ps.: I Use 3 divs with some data, and 2 repeaters, one inside other, to generate a table with some data for me. thanks in advance

    I am using a custom captcha php script along with news letter scripts to let users subscribe using an email id. The method of registration is based on jQuery.post command. My question is that am I really safe If I remove the captcha validation from my subscription script. The subscription is simple. For example mydomain/[email protected] The subscribe.php is called along with email as parameter using jQuery.post command. I am new to web programming stuff and don't have much idea about spammers in conjunction with above scenario. Any advise would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

  • Which DOCTYPE should I use for HTML newsletters?

    We are going the send our newsletters in HTML format soon. I have found a lot of information (like on Litmus) about which e-mail program and web mailer understands which CSS property. But the only think I couldn't figure out is which DOCTYPE we should use. Our mass mailing tool always overwrites the DOCTYPE with HTML 4.0 Transitional: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> What would you say we should take to be compatible with most of the e-mail programs and web mailer? We don't use a lot of HTML and now special new CSS properties.

  • HTML checkbox field is being passed to PHP as checked even when it is not

    Hello all, First of all thanks in advance, this has been very frustrating and I'm hoping someone can see something I'm not, I am definitely no php expert. Well here' what is going on. I have a form where I have a checkbox for people to opt in to our newletter. The form element looks like this: <label for=newsletter accesskey=N class="checkbox">Signup for Cloverton's Newsletter</label> <input name="newsletter" type="checkbox" id="newsletter" value="Yes" style="width:20px;" /> That is then submitted to a php file with this code: if (isset($_POST['newsletter']) && $_POST['newsletter'] == 'Yes'){ echo "newletter yes"; $newsletter = 1; }else{ echo "newsletter no"; $newsletter = 0; } $newsletter is then inserted into a database field. The issue is that whether the box is checked or not it is being sent to php as true, so every entry is receiving the newsletter. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
