• Multimaster Keepalived Configuration (Virtual IP with Load Balancing)

  Here are requirements: 1. High Availability 2. Load Balancing First configuration 1. Two linux servers have been configured with one static IP for each: 10.17.243.11, 10.17.243.12 2. Keepalived has been installed and configured with one VRRP instance to provide one virtual IP (10.17.243.10 as VIP, 10.17.243.11 as master and 10.17.243.12 as backup). 3. Everything works fine. The VIP is assigned to the master server (10.17.243.11) as long as it is up and running. As soon as it goes down, the VIP will be assigned to the backup server (10.17.243.12). 4. The problem here is all communication goes to the master server. Second configuration 1. I found active-active configuration for Keepalived which is possible by defining more than one VRRP instance. So that both server have two IPs (real 10.17.243.11 and virtual 10.17.243.10 for server #1 and real 10.17.243.12 and virtual 10.17.243.20 for server #2. 2. Everything works fine. we have two VIPs which are accessible (HA). But all communication coming to each IP still goes to one single machine (either server #1 or #2 depending on the IP). However I found some tricks on the DNS to overcome this limitation. But it's not acceptable in our case. Question: Is there any way to have one virtual IP which is assigned to both servers? By that I mean both servers are handling some part of workload (like the thing we do in web server load balancing)? By using either keepalived or some other tools? Thanks in advance.

• 500 Internal Server Error after moving Joomla installation to new environment

  (This is the first time I moved the website so please don't be hard on me.) After moving the website, the homepage shows up properly but other pages do not. I get 500 Internal Server Error on all other pages. Before moving, the Search Engine Friendly URLs and Use URL rewriting were enabled in the Joomla Dashboard. Is this the reason the other pages are not showing up? If so, how do I fix this? I think the homepage shows up because the url myWebsite.com redirects to myWebsite.com/index.php automatically. Note that I have transferred all of the Joomla the files through Filezilla and imported the MySQL database properly and also edited the configuration.php as set the proper settings for the database.

• word 2010 caption list

  I created a document by word 2010 in which I inserted captions for pictures and cross reffernec. I saved the document in my computer and emailed it to a colleague. When she opened the document in her computer, the caption list ( numbers which were cross referenced to pictures ) was not avaiable and she was not able to add refference to a picture or change an existing cross refference. It seems that caption list is only avaiable in the computer which the document is created.

• Comparing ASP.Net Framework to Cakephp, Zend , Ruby on Rails

  I am a PHP developer migrating to C# ASP.Net Framework. As of right now, I am experienced in using Php for developing sites and I use CakePhp and Zend framework as my RAD tools to help me produce better applications. As I move over to ASP.NET, I have this view that C# ASP.Net framework itself is already a RAD tool and is equivalent to using Cakephp, Zend, or even Ruby on Rails. So I really shouldn't have no concerns trying to find a separate library for ASP.NET that will help me produce better applications. To me, in a sense the ASP.NET is already like a MVC cause it seperates the model from the view and the methods are almost like controllers. So as far as having the best tools are concerned, should I be satisfied with just using ASP.NET as my RAD tool.

• 3d movement around a sphere

  Hey guys, Im working in 3d for the first time in a long time. Basically im rotating a sphere and projecting x y z cords to place things on the surface based on the spheres X and Y rotation. Heres the code im using: #define piover180 0.01745329252f GLfloat cosy = cos(yrot * piover180); island[i].x = rad * sin(xrot * piover180)* cosy; island[i].y = rad * sin(yrot * piover180); island[i].z = rad * cos(xrot * piover180) * cosy; Problem is the Xrot positioning works fine but the Yrot placement always draw the objects into the north and south pole so they all cross at the top, which isnt correct for rotating. • Backup server (OSX) like time machine to backup remote ubuntu 12.04 server [on hold]

  I've searched my ass of for an good solution to backup my ubuntu server thats in a datacenter. Local we have an osx server with some external drives attached to it. This is for the local working stations that handle timemachine. What i like to do is fetch the files (or mount the root of my ubuntu server) and make an time machine backup from it. I just have one problem that if my osx server crashes i can't put back the system because it contains not only the osx server but also the ubuntu server from the data center. I've used Back in time on ubuntu to do the exact same thing but this was to Ubuntu (local) from Ubuntu (datacenter). So does anybody has an solution? Here are my requirements: Set time intervals for backups; need to be backed up nightly. Set time intervals for keeping backups; hourly, weekly, monthy etc Able to back up all computers and servers from an offsite location the local osx server (10.9). Manageable from that one location to login with ssh to do rsync or rsnapshot Has a GUI (osx) Act like time machine, backup only the files that has been changed. Restore to a point back in time.

  Hi, We have a OID which is maintaining data about various users. This OID is being accessed by many weblogic servers. Weblogic servers are getting authenticated using this LDAP, but when a particular server authentication fails it causes authentication process failure for all servers, so we want to track that specific server which is causing this error. Is there any facility to know which servers are using the OID or i would like to know that does OID maintains any LOGs of its usage for security purpose.. Thanks.

• Google Chrome is in Danish

  I'm not sure what i have done, but by default, Chrome comes up in Danish. I can ignore this most of the time but its v annoying and i cant seem to change it. For example google directions come up in Danish too and have to be translated back to English! I have tried the spanner icon, and i've confirmed the only two languages specified are En and US English. Does anyone have any ideas how i can default it back to English all the time. • Create a Windows 7 System Repair ISO?

  According to the Microsoft website I can run "Create a system repair disc" from the start menu to burn a recovery Disc. However, there are many situations (including not having a disk drive) where this cannot be done. My goal is to create a bootable USB drive according to this guide but their method to do so without burning a physical disc includes downloading an ISO from "somebody's" website. I don't know who "somebody" is and I feel it is reasonable to not boot something I can't verify as being untampered with. To the best of my knowledge, Microsoft does not host a recovery disc ISO for download as this would be the easiest solution. So my problem is that I'd like to circumvent Microsofts "burn to disc" option with a "burn to ISO" through any reasonable means.

• How can I disable the network detection on Windows 7?

  I have a computer running Windows 7 that shares some files on the network. This works fine for a while until for some unknown reason the computer decides that it is connected to a new, unknown public network and disables the file sharing capabilites. Nothing physically changes with the computer, it is still connected to the same network via ethernet cable. But it does misidentify the network every other day, just plugging out the ethernet cable and putting it back in leads Windows to correctly identify the work network and enabling the share again. Is there some way to stop Windows from trying to identify the network automatically, and just tell it that the network on that computer will never change?

• Juniper setup on 12.04

  I have a laptop with Windows XP and Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bits). Until now, I used Windows XP to connect to a Juniper VPN but now I'd like to try it with Linux. I read the mad scientist walkthrough (including the sun java part) but I can't run the setup. I get the popup that ask me if I'm sure I want to run the applet but then, nothing. mad-scientist says it's probably a C runtime lib problem and suggests to use his script with -nojava but he doesn't say how to install Network Connect in the first place. • [Qt/C++] Need help in optimizing a drawing code ...

  Hello all ... I needed some help in trying to optimize this code portion ... Basically here's the thing .. I'm making this 'calligraphy pen' which gives the calligraphy effect by simply drawing a lot of adjacent slanted lines ... The problem is this: When I update the draw region using update() after every single draw of a slanted line, the output is correct, in the sense that updates are done in a timely manner, so that everything 'drawn' using the pen is immediately 'seen' the drawing.. however, because a lot (100s of them) of updates are done, the program slows down a little when run on the N900 ... When I try to do a little optimization by running update after drawing all the slanted lines (so that all lines are updated onto the drawing board through a single update() ), the output is ... odd .... That is, immediately after drawing the lines, they lines seem broken (they have vacant patches where the drawing should have happened as well) ... however, if I trigger a redrawing of the form window (say, by changing the size of the form), the broken patches are immediately fixed !! When I run this program on my N900, it gets the initial broken output and stays like that, since I don't know how to enforce a redraw in this case ... • SQL Server 2005: Improving performance for thousands or Insert requests. logout-login time= 120ms.

  Can somebody shed some lights on how SQL Server 2005 deals with may request issued by a client using ADO.NET 2.0. Below is the shortend output of SQL Trace. I can see that connection pooling is working (I believe there is only one connection being pooled). What is not clear to me is why we have so many sp_reset_connection calls i.e a series of: Audit Login, SQL:BatchStarting, RPC:Starting and Audit Logout for each loop in for loop below. I can see that there is constant switching between tempdb and master database which leads me to conclude that we lost the context when next connection is created by fetching it from the pool based on ConectionString argument. I can see that every 15ms I can get 100-200 login/logout per second (reported at the same time by Profiler). The after 15ms I have again a series fo 100-200 login/logout per second. I need clarification on how this might affect much complex insert queries in production environment. I use Enterprise Library 2006, the code is compiled with VS 2005 and it is a console application that parses a flat file with 10 of thousand of rows grouping parent-child rows, runs on an application server and runs 2 stored procedure on a remote SQL Server 2005 inserting a parent record, retrieves Identity value and using it calls the second stored procedure 1, 2 or multiple times (sometimes several thousands) inserting child records. The child table has close to 10 million records with 5-10 indexes some of them being covering non-clustered. There is a pretty complex Insert trigger that copies inserted detail record to an archive table. All in all I only have 7 inserts per second which means it can take 2-4 hours for 50 thousand records. When I run Profiler on the test server (that is almost equivalent with production server) I can see that there is about 120ms between Audit Logout and Audit Login trace entries which almost give me chance to insert about 8 records. So my question is if there is some way to improve inserting of records since the company loads 100 thousands of records and does daily planning and has SLA to fulfill client request coming as flat file orders and some big files 10 thousands have to be processed(imported quickly). 4 hours to import 60 thousands should be reduced to 30 minutes. I was thinking to use BatchSize of DataAdapter to send multiple stored procedure calls, SQL Bulk inserts to batch multiple inserts from DataReader or DataTable, SSIS fast load. But I don't know how to properly analyze re-indexing and stats population and maybe this has to take some time to finish. What is worse is that the company uses the biggest table for reporting and other online processing and indexes cannot be dropped. I manage transaction manually by setting a field to a value and do an transactional update changing that value to a new value that other applications are using to get committed rows. Please advise how to approach this problem. For now I am trying to have a staging tables with minimal logging in a separate database and no indexes and I will try to do batched (massive) parent child inserts. I believe Production DB has simple recovery model, but it could be full recovery. If DB user that is being used by my .NET console application has bulkadmin role does it mean its bulk inserts are minimally logged. I understand that when a table has clustered and many non-clustered indexes that inserts are still logged for each row. Connection pooling is working, but with many login/logouts. • Stop All Started Services on App Close / Exit

  Is it possible to stop all started services when the user hits the Home Button? I use: startService(new Intent(ClassName.this, ClassName2.class)); stopService(new Intent(ClassName.this, ClassName2.class)); This means I will have to somehow add the 'stopService()' for 7+ of my app classes I've researched this topic and I think there's 'onTerminate' but still not sure how this should be implemented. • Creating a music catalog and extracting first 30 seconds as soon as the first words are sung

  I already read a question: Separation of singing voice from music. I don’t need this complex audio processing. I only need some detection mechanism that would detect that there is some voice/vocal playing while the music is playing (or not playing) I need to extract first 30 seconds when a vocalist starts singing along with full band music. See question 2 below. I want to create a music catalog using ASP.NET MVC 2 and Silverlight clients and C#.NET 4.0 programming language that would be front store. On the backend I would also like to create a desktop WPF/Windows application to create the music catalog from already existing music files, most of which have metadata in them ID3v1, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.4, iTunes MP4, WMA, Vorbis Comments and APE Tags etc. I would possibly like to create a web service that would allow catalog contributors to upload a zipped album and trigger metadata extraction of music data and extraction of music segments as described below. I would be happy if I achieve no. 1 below. Let's say I have 1000ths of songs in mp3 (or other formats) grouped in subfolders using some classification (Genre, Artists, Albums, Composers or other groupings). I want to create tables in DB that would organize songs so they can be searched based on different criteria (year, length, above classification or by song title, description etc) like what iTune store allows to their customers. I want to extract metadata from various formats (I will try to get songs in mp3 format, but there may be other popular formats) and allow music Catalog manager person to add missing data from either desktop or web applications. He or other contributors can upload zipped music via an HTML or Silverlight upload or WPF. Can anybody suggest open source libraries, articles, code snippets that can do that in an automatic way using .NET and possibly SQL Server DB? My main questions are these. This is an audio processing challenge. I want to extract 2 segments of music (questions 1 and 2): 1. How to extract a music segment: 1-2 seconds before a vocal starts singing and up to 30 seconds from that point in time and 2. Much more challenging is to find repeating segments (One would usually find or recognize the names of the songs and songs are usually known by these refrains. How would I go about creating a list of songs that go great together like what Genius from iTune does? Is there any characteristics of music that can be used to match songs? The goal is for people quickly scan and recognize songs i.e. associate melody, words with a title/album so they can make intelligent decisions like buying a song, create similar mood songs.

• overflow-x AND Middle Mouse Button Moving

  My Page is 980px in Width, but I have a few design elements (which belong with the background). I positioned them with position: absolute;. This creates a horizontal scrollbar for those who have a =< 1024 resolution. I disabled that scrollbar with overflow-x:hidden on (and for IE7 and etc). However, when I hold my middle mouse button,(i think this applies to laptop touchpads as well) it let's me move around to the right, is it possible to fix this with anything? (javascript, css)? Tested this issues in Chrome, IE, Firefox.

• Can you tell me why my webpage displays differently in IE and how to fix it.

  I've been browsing through all of the CSS related cross-browser questions trying to troubleshoot my IE styling issues with no luck. Can anyone tell me how to fix my homepage styles so that it displays the same in IE as it currently does in Firefox? I've used Firebug (probably why it looks good in Firefox) but I can't find any tools for IE that will let me change the stylesheet real time. I'm just as interested in the process of figuring out this answer as I am in the answer itself so posting the steps you took to figure it out would be beneficial. (want to be able to do this myself next time!!!) Website is AppQandA.com. Scroll down to the bottom in IE and notice the footer. It's not like this on every page.....just the main page and the questions page.

  I have a MyUserControl with the following Xaml: <TextBox Text="{Binding InputValueProperty}" /> In the MyUserControl.xaml.cs I have: public string InputValue { get { return (string)GetValue(InputValueProperty); } set { SetValue(InputValueProperty, value); } } public static readonly DependencyProperty InputValueProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("InputValueProperty", typeof(string), typeof(MyUserControl)); In my MainWindow.xaml I create a user control: <local:MyUserControl InputValue="My Input" /> Later on in my MainWindow.xaml.cs I am trying to access this string. All instances of MyUserControl are contained in a List and I access them with a foreach. string temp = userControl.InputValue; This is always null. In my MainWindow.xaml I can see the "My Input" in the text box of the user control but I can't ever seem to get it out of there.

• How to store Ruby method references in a database?

  I am writing my first rails app. It needs to aggregate some data from multiple sites and for each site I have a unique way of getting the data (some provide RSS, some JSON, for some I scrape the HTML etc.). These will run on schedule, probably as a rake task from cron. It seems logical to store the sites and relevant information in a model, but I am not sure where to put unique data retrieval methods. Do I store method names in the model? Do I just name the methods the same as site name and call them that way? Basically, I need a way to read a list of sites and call appropriate method for each site. What is the Ruby on Rails way to do it?
