• Will Swift or any upcoming Apple developer tools be incompatible with .xibs? [on hold]

  I'm still letting the sudden announcement of a language change (Swift) sink in, and I'm wondering if the upcoming platform changes will still be highly compatible with using .xibs for interface development. I've used Storyboards in multiple production projects but I don't feel very productive with them, and I get tired of managing multiple storyboards, links, and xib connections for complex views. I don't see why Swift and Xcode 6 wouldn't cooperate with Xibs indefinitely if it still allows @IBOutlets and @IBActions, but I have realized that Apple purposely shuns old methodologies for the sake of doing so. If there's any reasons to turn away from xibs in iOS8 besides the use-the-new-stuff conventional wisdom, I'd like to know before its too late.

• How to tackle a boss who thinks everybody in this world is wrong except him?

  I mean seriously, how do you tackle a guy who even changes our variable names (even though they are reasonable) and sends back the code (after review) like 4 times? I know for sure I'm not that bad a developer! So many times, he enforces his ideals, which are not even best practices in the industry! I point out to him whatever link I can find on the internet trying to prove my point, but in the end he uses his authority to shut us out. Sick and tired. Frustrated. Do I have any way out other than quitting the job?

  So I've spent quite some time trying to sign this code of conduct and am on the verge of abandoning it.   I'm having a computer unrelated job right now, but I want to become a programmer, I have some objective-c and iOS knowledge, studying hard in my free time, etc. I'm looking into getting a junior iOS developer position. It will probably pay half what I earn in my current job, and I am not sure if I will like that. But I am really tired of my job and want to get experience in this field. Also, working as iOS developer is great position, since they are in great demand. My country is Russia. What do you think? • Own an iPad, iPhone, or Touch? Add GWB to your Home

  I know it is goofy to geek out about such things, but I am a pretty goofy geek.  Today we published support for the Apple icons for devices like the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.  Now when you add Geekswithblogs.net to your home screen (via the little + in Safari) it will load the icon to the left instead of a screenshot of the site.  We have been using my iPhone and iPad to surf to GWB for awhile and we were tired of that screenshot.  Simple Google/Bing search and a little Photoshop CS5 (Amazing!!!) work and there it is.  Next step we are taking in the Apple iPad/Phone arena is getting our developer kit and seeing what possiblities there are for Geekswithblogs.net and a custom App.  Got any ideas? • No sound after installing a new Graphics Card

  I've just upgraded my graphics card to an Asus Geforce 210 and now my system has no sound. I've ran Update Manager and the Additional Drivers utility which installed the latest Nvida driver. The graphics card is connected to my TV via a DVI-to-HDMI (DVI at the PC end) cable for the visual connection, and an audio jack from my onboard soundcard for my audio connection. Any ideas on how to resolve this? I ran this command ubuntu-bug audio And it outputted this: You seem to have configured PulseAudio to use the "pci-0000_05_00.1" card, while you want output from "NFORCE - NVidia CK804". I've tired a bit of messing about with the audio settings but can't get anything to work.

  I use Ubuntu exclusively for my job, especially for the fact that everything works and I get the most out of my processor and memory, but you are killing me with updates! I just lost a very good opportunity from a client that installed Ubuntu but got tired of all the updates. I really can't argue the fact. In a matter of a day I had two software updates. Quote from customer: "It's sad that I come in at 6:00 in the morning to install updates from a LTS version, and then before I leave at the end of the day I have 19 new updates to install. At least Microsoft bundles them in controllable groups." Sadly I have to agree, guys you have to do something about this. Please!

  I have an old computer which has 512MB RAM and 128MB Graphic card. It has windows 95 currently, it loads fine but it has some issues with Internet connection and pendrive. I am tired of solving problems. I booted live CD of ubuntu 10.10. It loads slow and some diplay problems. But it resolved my internet problem and pendrive. So I want install ubuntu which is equivalent to windows 95 in boot, application load, graphics level. Can anyone suggest unbuntu version? What about xbuntu?

  I am currently a Freshman Computer Science Major at Samford University, but I am realizing that the actual field I want to get into is Game Development. I go to all of these classes that are supposed to make you well rounded that have nothing to do with what I want to do and frankly, after 18 years of schooling, I am sick of having to be in classes like that. I want to go to a Game Design/Development school where that is the priority and I am not overburdened with useless classes. At this point I am so tired of the Samford classes already that I am heavily considering taking next semester off and just getting a job and focusing on learning programming on my own or something like that. My question is what would be some good schools to apply to for enrollment in 2013 and what does it take to get into these schools? Thanks in advanced.

Standalone, mobile, web-development, anything, just not enterprise. Basically, I need a programming direction which doesn't need 20 developers, terribly big databases systems and long going projects with intense long-term support, I don't want enterprise job where a lot of people are working on one terribly big project and do modules to it all day long. Instead, I need something where: Projects change pretty often Projects are little, or medium-sized (in terms of code, modules and people working on it) but still not enterprise-sized Possible for freelance, solo-development, or at least requires a team of 3-4 programmers.   I am tired of hearing people recommend that you should use only one thread per process, while many programs use up to 100 per process! take for example some common programs vb.net ide uses about 25 thread when not debugging System uses about 100 chrome uses about 19 Avira uses more than about 50 Any time I post a thread related question, I am reminded almost every time that I should not use more that one thread per process, and all the programs I mention above are ruining on my system with a single processor. • How do you stop yourself from programming?

  Lately I've started earning enough off my software to not have to do consulting to support myself. So I work full time designing and writing my own software products. The problem is that there are no boundaries between my work and my life any more. When I mostly did consulting, I was weary enough of work at the end of the workday to go home and do other things. But now, I sit down to program in the morning, and before I know it it's 11pm and I'm still writing software and not bored or tired at all. I have to force myself to go to sleep. I feel happy and fulfilled, but objectively, I know I need more balance and variety in my life. Any tips or suggestions on how to pull yourself away from the console?

• USB Storage Device Automount

  Under Ubuntu 10.04 one of the problems which appeared is that USB devices would no longer automatically mount when plugged in. Normally I would get a pop up message asking what application I wanted to open the newly plugged in device with, however now that doesn't happen. This happens regardless of the way the device is formatted (NTFS or FAT32) and all other USB devices (printer, keyboard and mouse) work perfectly. My current solution is the mount them manually using sudo mount dev/... /medai/... however to be honest I'm just getting tired of having to do this. I'm happy to post any extra information you are likely to need. I know there will be lots of places I could look to find out what's going wrong but I have no idea where to start really.

• Problems about responsiveness and keyboard/mousepad not working

  So I installed Ubuntu 12.04, I'm very new at this and want to get into the world of Linux but have run into nothing but problems. I have an Acer Aspire 5553g. First off, my keyboard won't work. Second, my computer has more than enough of everything to run Ubuntu smoothly, but everything runs extremely slow. (You move the mouse and it gets there a few seconds later) It's to the point where I can't even use it and I really want to. I'm tired of Microsoft stuff and I've been looking at learning how to use Linux based operating systems for a while. • Make Ubuntu fonts sharper

  In the last two months I'm trying to do a complete transition from Windows 7 to Ubuntu. There is something that is really missing. I really like the sharp and think fonts in windows (I'm not talking about the font type - 'Arial','Consolas' atc.). I think that the Ubuntu fonts looks better, but after several hours I feel like my eyes are really tired. BTW - I have the same problem with the Apple computer at work too (MacBook pro). Is it a theme issue? Can i change it by configuration? Can you recommend a solution?

• Graphics problem after updating to Kernel 3.11 with Ubuntu 13.04 64bit

  I am new to ubuntu.I have a 64 bit intel processor with ATI 6570 graphics card. Now Ubuntu 13.04 is working fine with stock kernel(3.8). But as I read somewhere that kernel 3.11 do support ATI graphics card better, I tired updating them with no success. I tried 3.11.6 3.11.4 3.11.0 but with all of them I am facing the same problem ... after installing them and restart, the screen resolution get distorted and the unity becomes too slow transparency in dash and the launcher is also lost. Now whatever little I know , this may be related with graphics diver either they are not present or the graphic card is not turned on. Can some one help with this. And yeah i tried ubuntu 13.10 that worked fine but it has some bugs. and yeah please pardon me for my bad English.
