• How to handle shoot instructions, in a multiplayer TD

  I'm currently working on a Multiplayer Tower Defense game, using ImpactJS & Node. I seek some clarification about how to handle projectiles from towers, let me explain. So the server is running the master game, and the clients just follow the instruction from the server. Lets say there is about 20 towers on the stage, all needs instructions for which creeps to shoot at. Now lets say each towers fires twice in a second, that's 40 shots each second, (worst case scenario) which is 40 request per second to each client, would't this casue alot of stress to the server, saying that we have 50 games running the same time. So what i am really asking, is this method inefficient, and is there a smarter way to handle all these instructions. Thank you.

• dput keeps selecting the wrong ppa

  I am trying to upload my application for Ubuntu app showdown and I have built it with quickly package --extras, however when I run quickly submit ubuntu I get an email telling me the package was rejected because it was trying to upload to an older ppa I deleted months ago. I can upload the source to the right area with dput, but obviously I need a built deb package. This is starting to stress me out somewhat because I have been fighting this for over a day or more now. Any help is greatly appreciated, I understand quickly is supposed to do a lot of the grunt work for me so it's getting frustrating not knowing what's going on. Thanks, Neil

• Is type safety worth the trade-offs?

  I began coding in in Python primarily where there is no type safety, then moved to C# and Java where there is. I found that I could work a bit more quickly and with less headaches in Python, but then again, my C# and Java apps are at much higher level of complexity so I have never given Python a true stress test I suppose. The Java and C# camps make it sound like without the type safety in place, most people would be running into all sorts of horrible bugs left an right and it would be more trouble than its worth. This is not a language comparison, so please do not address issues like compiled vs interpreted. Is type safety worth the hit to speed of development and flexibilty? WHY? to the people who wanted an example of the opinion that dynamic typing is faster: "Use a dynamically typed language during development. • Unity iOS optimization and draw calls

  I am curious of what methods I should approach in optimizing my Unity project for iOS hardware. I have very little image effects running (directional light with low res shadows) and I used the combine children script from the standard assets to lessen the load on the CPU. My project currently runs with 45-57 draw calls at non-intensive segments and up to 178 at intensive segments. I heard that static batching relieves some of the stress, but the game has the environment moving around the player instead of the player moving around the environment. Is there any alternative that I may look towards to improving the draw call number?

  I used to work on a really small outsourcing company (4 programmers and the boss), then when the stress and the frequent long shifts made the situation unbearable I made the switch to a better paid job with a more relaxed schedule that allows me some more free time. The problem, however, is that for the most part, everything is coded in Classic ASP that interfaces with a custom made C++ queueing system that stores everything in AS400 systems. My boss used to be one of the developers that made the initial efforts towards this, and naturally won't ever approve a switch to another languages / technologies despite the increasing difficulty that represents developing today business needs with yesterday tools. I'm pretty much stuck coding with Classic ASP in the foreseeable future, and I'm struggling to find ways to make it at least interesting, as I used to work with .NET and Java previously, and I feel like I'm going backwards... Any advice?

  The number of platforms I have to develops apps for is increasing and It brings me lots of stress to learn new technologies for each target platform. I found out that Telerik's Kendo UI is very good to build websites that look and feel native on mobile platforms (e.g. iOS and Android). My question is, is it possible to build HTML5 apps to deploy them on iTunes App Store and Google Play? Please note that I am eager to know the possibility of creating apps (complete apps bundled in standard format of Apple and Google for distribution in their respective mobile app markets) but not websites.

• Will the Global Demand for Water Outstrip the Supply by 2030?

  A recent study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit and sponsored by Oracle Utilities, titled “Water for All?”,considers the preparedness of utilities to supply water to the current global population of over 7 billion people, with a further 1 billion expected by 2030. It compares strategies used by utilities in 10 major countries to address this challenge. This study’s findings show that wide-ranging water management efforts and large-scale investments must be made if utilities are to meet near-certain water stress—demand outstripping supply—by 2030. The report is based on an online survey of 244 executives of water utilities in these countries, supplemented by in-depth interviews with 20 water utility executives and independent experts. The research concludes that utilities worldwide expect to meet future demand, despite increased supply pressure on supplies, due to improvements in water productivity that the wide range of measures utilities and governments will take to ensure that water is used more efficiently. • career change : non-functional to test automation

  I started my Career as core-Java developer 6 years ago and stayed as developer for 6-7 month and then moved to performance testing (actualy pushed into this for short term and later I started liking it). I have done all sort of non-functional testing like performance, load, stress, soak, compatibility, failover etc on many performance test tools accross many industries. I was doing contracting all these years which means I kept moving to new projects after every 3-6 months. Now personal situation has been changed, married man now so looking for something long term. Performance testing generally comes at the end of the development life cycle hence very short term contracts so I was wondering if I can move into functional/test automation side I can earn myself good length of contract. I had some exposure of QTP but I am sure to learn all other tools very quickly as I am quite good in programming and concept of testing. in short I want to move into functional test automation to get long term contract without leaving my love for programming . any thoughts please ?

• Looking for parallel programming problem

  I am trying to come up with a problem that is easily solvable in a parallel manner and that requires communication between threads for a test. I also am trying to avoid problems that require require random waits, which rules out dining philosophers and producer-consumer (bounded buffer), two of the classics. My goal is for the student to be able to write the program in less than 20-30 minutes in front of a computer not knowing of the problem beforehand. (This is to prevent preparation more than to come up with something novel.) I am trying to stress the communication aspect of the program, though the multi-threaded nature is also important. Does anyone have some ideas? Edit: I'm using Google Go for the language and testing comprehension of the goroutines/channels combo vs an actors library that I authored.

  I've been playing Zaz recently as a time waster and stress beater, but it seems not to be actively maintained, and is not saving profile data under Ubuntu 12.10. It's getting to be more stressful than fun, because it keeps crashing, and under Unity, Gnome Shell, KDE (in other words, any opengl enabled WM) it makes the GPU lockup. How can I make it save the profile data or create a profile that I can manually place my level info in? I'm tired of playing the same levels over and over and not being able to start from the ones I've already passed. I am still yet to find any info on fixing this. Any clues?
