  • What is the best folder stucture in TFS for reporting service projects

    Hi, I'm looking for some help on deciding a useful folder stucture strategy for reporting service projects in TFS. Does any one have some suggestions on which way I should stucture TFS? Should it be a project per report or should it be one Reporting project with multiple folders under the main that contain all the report projects? i.e. Senario 1 (separate projects for each report project) $ReportProject1 $ReportProject2 $ReportProject3 Senario 2 (Main report project in TFS and subfolders with report projects) $ReportingServices ------Src ---------Project1 -----------ReportProject1 files ---------Project2 -----------ReportProject2 files ---------Project3 -----------ReportProject3 files

  • TeamCity with TFS - workspace problems

    Hi, We have been using CC.NET as our CI server for a month or so now, which has worked ok with TFS. In the config we were able to specify the TFS server, username, password, project and workspace which is all good. Now we are moving over to TeamCity mainly because it just seams more solid and is much nicer to use. The problem is getting it work with TFS. For the purpose of this, both the workspace and machine name are "BuildMachine", username is "BuildUser" TFS project is "$/Project/Dev/Website" I seam to have set it up correctly, I think, as when testing the connection it is successful. When I run a build I get a TFS error: "RunBuildException when running build stage UpdateSourcesFromServer." It goes on to say: "No matched workspaces were found. Will recreate workspace and perofming clean checkout." It then tries to create a new workspace something like this: TeamCity-S-sqa9qe2aulx22gz4rzkogl5kr/BuildUser It tries to set up some mappings and then fails because: "The working folder C:\ is already in use by the workspace BuildMachine;BuildUser on computer BuildMachine". This seams ok as this is the workspace that CC.net was using, and c:\project\dev\website is the path to the project. The problem is, why didn't TeamCity pick this up and use this workspace? Why does it try to create its own new one? Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks

  • How do I merge a local branch into TFS

    hi, I did a stupid thing and branched my project on my local disk instead of doing it on the TFS. So now I have two projects on my disk: the old one which has TFS bindings and the new, which doesn't. I want to merge those changes back into the TFS project. How would I go about doing that? I can't do Compare because my local branch has no TFS bindings. There should be some way to compare the differences between the two projects locally and then meld the differences into the old project and check-in, but I can't find an easy way of doing that. Any other solutions?

  • Rails 3: habtm migration, primary key issue

    I'm trying to setup a migration file for a habtm relationship, however when I run the migration I'm getting the following error: Primary key is not allowed in a has_and_belongs_to_many join table (parts_vehicles). Here is my migration file (20110111035950_create_parts_vehicles.rb): class CreatePartsVehiclesJoinTable < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :parts_vehicles, :id => false do |t| t.integer :part_id t.integer :vehicle_id end end def self.down drop_table :parts_vehicles end end The documentation example states to use :id => false to disable a primary key from being generated, but I'm still getting the error.

  • Adding Sharepoint 2007/2010 ontop of TFS 2010

    So i finally have everything up and running and everyone is mostly happy - TFS 2010 rocks! However i now want to add office sharepoint, i didn't want to have it installed first because i was worried that it would stuff with things and i wanted to look back on the TFS installation, once i knew how portals were created. So what is the best way to now add sharepoint to the installation without stuffing things up? i have a 2 server environment, with TFS on one and the database on another.

  • Setting Up TFS Server outside of a domain

    Hi Im trying to set up TFS 2010 on a machine that is connected to a network, but not on the domain. I am trying to connect this to a SQL Server that is also connected to the network and also not on the domain. When I run through the TFS configuration Wizard and try to connect to the SQL Server, it fails with a message "A connection can not be made...." which looks like it cant see the Server. However when i connect through SQL Management Studio it works when i use SQL Authentication (not Windows Auth). I beleive its failing because TFS needs to connect using Windows Authetication (please correct me if im wrong). I can not add the Windows Authentication for my TFS machine onto the SQL machine becuase they are on different domains (again, pleas correct me if I'm wrong). Does anyone have any suggestions?   • TFS 2008 ignores team project check-in settings

    I'm trying to set up our TFS 2008 instance to require that projects build before they can be checked in. I have created a check-in policy using the out of the box "Builds" policy, but I'm still able to check broken projects in after mangling the code and attempting to build the project. We're a small shop, and TFS was originally set up with our team's Active Directory group listed as TFS admins. Is this the problem? Do check-in policies apply to TFS admins? Any other suggestions?

  • Create ActiveRecord migration then edit in one step?

    I find myself doing this a lot: script/generate migration my_new_migration .. then select & copy the generated filename, then paste it into vi to actually write the migration. Is there any way to do this in one step? i.e. when the script/generate migration runs, it creates the file the automatically opens that file in an editor? (I'm working in an SSH terminal window on linux..)

  • does TFS easily allow you to share testresults with people who don't have TFS?

    I'd like to publish a set of test results to a place where team members who don't have TFS can see the results. Does TFS do anything like this easily? I see that that test results do get published, but without a TFS license I don't see any way for people to view them. I think I can do this easily by pulling the XML from the test results and then pushing that out to a central location, but I was wondering if there's anything like an "official" way to do this. TFS is hard to work with when you have some people who have access to it and others who don't... I really wish there was some sort of read-only access to the server (let people get files but not check them out for instance).

  • Problems after using migration assistant

    I had migrated from a Xenon Mac Pro to a late 2012 Mac mini, using Migration Assistant. Now, the Mac mini won't recognize PHP. I can't even open my user folder, through terminal neither. I was running Homebrew and PHP 5.4. The Mac mini came out of the box with PHP 5.3 what could be the source of the problem. Can someone confirm that it is a version caused problem or point me in the right direction?

  • Accounts in Work Items after migration to TFS 2010 and to new domain

    Lately I’ve been doing some tests on migrating our TFS 2008 installation to TFS 2010, coupled with a machine and domain change. One particular topic that was tricky is user accounts. We installed first a new machine with TFS 2010 and then migrated the projects in the old server. The work items were migrated with the projects. Great, but if I try to edit one of the old work items I cannot save it anymore because some fields contain old user names (ex. OLDDOMAIN\user) which are not known in the new domain (it should be NEWDOMAIN\user). The errors look like this: When I correct the ‘Assigned To’ field value, I get another error regarding another field: Before TFS 2010, we had TFSUsers power tool. It allow you to map an old user name to a new user name. This is not available anymore because WI fields with user accounts are now synchronized with AD display names changes (explained here). The correct way to go about this in TFS 2010 is to use TFSConfig Identities before adding the new domain accounts into the TFS groups (documented here). So, too late for us. I’ve found a (tedious) workaround to change those old account in work items in order to allow people to keep working with them. 1. Install TFS 2010 power tools 2. Export WIT from your project (VS | Tools | Process Editor | Work Item Types). Save the definition, for example: Original_MyProject_Task.xml 3. Copy the xml (NoReadOnly_MyProject_Task.xml) and edit it. From the field definition of ‘Activated By’, ‘Closed By’ and ‘Resolved By’, remove the following:        <WHENNOTCHANGED field="System.State">           <READONLY />         </WHENNOTCHANGED> 4. Import WIT in VS. Choose the new file (NoReadOnly_MyProject_Task.xml) and import it in MyProject 5. Open all tasks in Excel (flat list). Display the following columns: Asssigned To Activated By Closed By Resolved By Change the user accounts to the new ones (I usually sort each column alphabetically to make it easier). 6. Publish. If you get a conflict on a field, tough luck. You will have to manually choose “Local version” for each work item. I told you it was a tedious process. 7. Import original WIT (Original_MyProject_Task.xml) in MyProject. We only changed the WI definition so that we could change some fields. The original definition should be put back. And what about these other fields? Created By Authorized As These fields are not editable by definition (VS | Tools | Process Editor | Work Item Fields Explorer), even if they are not marked as read-only in the WIT. You can leave the old values. It doesn’t seem to matter to TFS. The other four fields are editable by definition, so only the WIT readonly rule prevents us from changing them.     I have a sales call today in which the person that I am talking to is interested in what TFS would give them over Star Team, The first thing I believe that I can say is that TFS is cheaper!   • Migration of VM from Hyper-V to Hyper-V R2 - Pass through disks

    I am trying to migrate a VM which is using two pass through disks from a legacy Hyper-V Cluster to a new R2 cluster. The migrated VM cannot use the pass through disks though. The guest OS (2008 R2) doesn't seem to like the disk and eventually tries to format the disk instead of mounting it. The migration process I have been using for all my VMs is to export the VM to a new lun, then add that new lun to the new cluster, importing the vm off it in the hyper-v console, then making it highly available. I assumed I could do the same thing and just add the two pass through disks to the new cluster and then attach them inside Hyper-V. Is there a process I need to follow to migrate pass through disks that does not involve setting up new Luns and robocopying the data over?

  • Can I configure a visual difference view with the notifications provided by TFS?

    I have TFS sending me alerts whenever someone on my team checks in code. (I had to create notification rules for every project, but that's just a sidebar complaint in this question.) These alerts provided some information on who checked in the files when, and what files have changed, with urls to view details in a browser. The thing that baffles me is that I can't just click on the source file and see a visual diff of the changes. There's no link that will auto-launch a diff in Visual Studio (using a custom protocol) from there either. Is there a way to configure TFS to provide a visual diff of the changes to the file that was checked in via this notification UI?

  • Migration of egroupware from one Ubuntu server to another

    I am new to server administration and have been attempting to migrate from one Ubuntu server to another for 4 days now. I am having a problem with migration of egroupware settings. Specifically, I need to find where knowledgebase saves the files on the local machine. I have the database set correctly and its using the previous settings. However, articles in knowledgebase are not showing images associated with them. I have tried everything to find the file on the old server that stores data files uploaded to the knowlegebase but I cannot. If there is another way to import these files, or if someone knows where they are saved, I would really appreciate the help. -Chris
