    Under Ubuntu 8.10, bash shell, the LANG and LC_ALL variables are not set: user@machine1:~$ locale LANG= LC_CTYPE="POSIX" LC_NUMERIC="POSIX" LC_TIME="POSIX" LC_COLLATE="POSIX" LC_MONETARY="POSIX" LC_MESSAGES="POSIX" LC_PAPER="POSIX" LC_NAME="POSIX" LC_ADDRESS="POSIX" LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX" LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX" LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX" LC_ALL= Where should I set those variables so that they point to en_US.UTF-8. Once that is done, do I need to restart anything?

  • How can I run Selenium tests on an Ubuntu server?

    I currently have a test machine running Ubuntu server 9.10 with no GUI. I want to run my Selenium RC test suites which open Firefox and perform a series of operation. I could bloat my test server with Gnome or KDE to run those tests but I'm looking for a lighter solution. Does anyone have some suggestions on how to run GUI tests on an Ubuntu server?

  • What should I set so that VMware tools is running after a guest reboots or comes back from sleep?

    On my Ubuntu 10.04 Server guest VM running from VMware fusion, the VMware tools doesn't seem to be running after a reboot or my computer comes back from stand-by or sleep(when I close my MacBook lid): $ /etc/init.d/vmware-tools status vmware-guestd is not running I did try running it as a service but the tools would still not run after coming back from stand by: sudo service vmware-tools start Any ideas what I should do to make the tools run all the time? My Ubuntu Server can only be accessed from the CLI, I won't be able to try any GUI solution.

  • Glassfish V3 won't start

    I installed NetBeans 6.8 and tried to run the GlasshFish V3 server. I'm working under Windows Vista 32 Bits. First, it won't run.   • Kill Leaking Connections on SQL Server 2005

    We have a legacy ASP application that somewhere leaks SQL Connections. In Activity Monitor, I can see a bunch of idle processes with Last Batch times over an hour old. When I look at the T-SQL command batch, these are always FETCH API_CURSORXXX, which from my understanding is caused by improperly closed ASP ADO Recordsets. While we are try to pinpoint the offeding code, is there a way for me to monitor which requests open which cursors? I'm assuming profiler, but I'm not sure what I should be monitoring exactly. I can see a bunch of calls to sp_cursoropen but I don't see the API_CUSORXXX name anywhere. Second, would anyone be able to suggest a script we could run to kill these processes based on the Last Batch time 10 minutes and Last Batch Command being FETCH API_CURSORXXX? For various reasons, we unfortunately don't have any SQL Server DBAs.

  • My bios datetime is resetting to 2002, what should I do?

    I bought my PC brand new in mid-2006. I'm currently dual booting Win XP 32 bits and Ubuntu Karmic Desktop. Over the last few days, when I boot up my computer, it tells me that my bios time is not set. I now have 2 choices for booting in: Windows first: I can safely get into Windows but the date now shows 2002/01/01 at 00:00. From there, Windows will not sync its time to its servers, I have to manually advance the date myself. I can also advance the date from the bios at startup. Ubuntu first: Since the time date is still set at 2002, the boot system cannot find my linux partition. I can fix that issue by booting to Windows, set the date properly and the linux issue will be fixed automatically. The above two issues can also be fixed if I manually set the bios date/time manually when I turn on my computer. It's annoying to do that every single day since I shut down my PC daily. Am I having an OS issue or a hardware issue? How can I resolve this problem?

    Denis Pitcher, You posted this comment on my blog and some other blogs: Devteach's promotion for a one year MSDN subscription was not honoured and attempts to contact them result in a "we sent attendee info to MS, it's not our problem" response while attempts to contact Microsoft result in the suggestion that any queries should be redirect to Devteach. Hopefully not all attendees we're cheated though if you're considering attending a future Devteach it is recommended that you don't hold any expectation that they'll honour their promotions. I spoke to Jean-René Roy, DevTeach organizer and also to MSDN Canada folks.  Looks like the email you used to register for the conference is now bouncing (maybe a typo when you registered?).  That why you haven’t received any news about the offer.  The fact that you’re leaving the same comment on various blogs without your email address doesn’t help at all.  Thay want to contact you!  Also, looks like they never received your emails, maybe you used a the wrong email addresses.   • Bridging The Gap Between Developers And Testers With VS 2010

    On January 29th Etienne Tremblay and I presented infront of roughly 120 people in Ottawa a 7 hours "sketch" on how VS 2010 and TFS 2010 can help both devs and testers in their respective work.  The presentation focused on how a testers' work can positively influence a developers' work and vice versa.  The format was quite unusual as I said it's a "sketch" where Etienne and I "ignore" the audience and we do as if we were at work and the audience is sort of "spying" on us.  In all I'm quite pleased with the content we presented and the format sure was alot of fun to render and I think the audience liked it too...  The good news for you people reading this post is that it got RECORDED and it's now available for download in quick 25 to 35 minutes format on the dev teach web site:  http://www.devteach.com/ALM-TFS2010-Bridgingthegap.aspx   There where 2 cameras, one filming us and one capturing the screen for our demos.  We switch from one to another in an intersting flow and Jean-René Roy made sure he kept all our goofs and didn't edit those funny "oups moments" where we screw-up in the scenario...  Mostly educative but hilarious at times !!!   • How to prevent jQuery FancyBox from closing immediately after submit?

    Hi! I'm loading an inline registration form in a FancyBox from jQuery. However after submitting the form, the box immediately closes while there is some feedback that I want to show the user in the FancyBox itself. This feedback is generated on the server side and is printed in the FancyBox. How can I make the box only closing when their is no feedback anymore? I was thinking about using ajax to just refresh the FancyBox itself and not the whole page after refreshing. But I just can't figure out how this ajax $.ajax({type, cache, url, data, success}); works... Also it seems like there's no reaction from the 'submit bind' in the javascript. I hope someone can help me with this problem. I paste my code below. If any questions, plz ask.. Thx in advance!
