• Blender multiple animations and Collada export

  Say I have a simple mesh in Blender, with two keyframes, like so: Then, another animation for the same mesh, also with two keyframes: Theese animations worke fine in Blender and I can switch between them in the Dopesheet, where they are called "actions": The problem arises, when i try to export this to the Collada format, for use in my game engine. The only animation/action that seems to be carried over, is the one currently associated to the mesh. Is it possible to export multiple animations/actions for the same mesh, to the Collada format?

• Strange mesh import problem with Assimp and OpenGL

  Using the assimp library for importing 3D data into an OpenGL application. I get some strange problems regarding indexing of the vertices: If I use the following code for importing vertex indices: for (unsigned int t = 0; t < mesh->mNumFaces; ++t) { const struct aiFace * face = &mesh->mFaces[t]; if (face->mNumIndices == 3) { indices->push_back(face->mIndices[0]); indices->push_back(face->mIndices[1]); indices->push_back(face->mIndices[2]); } } I get the following result: Instead, if I use the following code: for(int k = 0; k < 2 ; k++) { for (unsigned int t = 0; t < mesh->mNumFaces; ++t) { const struct aiFace * face = &mesh->mFaces[t]; if (face->mNumIndices == 3) { indices->push_back(face->mIndices[0]); indices->push_back(face->mIndices[1]); indices->push_back(face->mIndices[2]); } } } I get the correct result: Hence adding the indices twice, renders the correct result? • Is an 'if password == XXXXXXX' enough for minimum security?

  If I create a login for an app that has middle to low security risk (in other words, its not a banking app or anything), is it acceptable for me to verify a password entered by the user by just saying something like: if(enteredPassword == verifiedPassword) SendToRestrictedArea(); else DisplayPasswordUnknownMessage(); It seems to easy to be effective, but I certainly would not mind if that was all that was required. Is a simple check on username/password combo enough? Update: The particular project happens to be a web service, the verification is entirely server side, and it is not open-source. Does the domain change how you would deal with this?

• 12.10 upgrade broke brightness keys [closed]

  I have been running Ubuntu (64-bit) on my HP 6710b laptop (Core 2 Duo with integrated graphics) for several years, and the backlight brightness keys have always worked. Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 earlier today, those keys do not work any more. The secondary function keys: Fn+F3: sleep; still works (and considerably faster than ever before!) Fn+F8: battery info; still works Fn+F9: reduce brightness; stopped working in 12.10 Fn+F10: increase brightness; stopped working in 12.10 It may also be worth while mentioning that X does not appear to be receiving the brightness events at all, or at least not sending them out further. (This I detected with a key logger I wrote for a Uni project, which uses X's Record extension; it is informed of the sleep and battery info keystrokes, but doesn't receive the brightness ones at all.) In the mean time, I know that I can use the Brightness & Lock settings screen to alter the brightness. (Wow! I can suddenly make my backlight darker than I could before—I can go right down to turning the backlight off, something I couldn't do before... but this model has a fairly dim screen, so I don't expect to use that much, if ever.) How can I get the brightness keys working again? This question is probably strongly related to I can't control my Brightness in HP Compaq 6710s.

They do not have specific implementations that could neccessarily be demonstrated(even if you can easily demonstrate a case NOT using something like KISS... see The Daily WTF for a plethora of examples), nor do they fully explain a development process like a methodology generally would. Where does that leave these types of "rule of thumb"'s?

  So I know everyone here is all about private offices, how many developers actually have them. I am sort of half skeptical. I can believe that lead developers have them, but thats normally just one person in your average office. If it would not be to much to ask: Do you work in a totally awesome office or a nasty old cube? (or somewhere in between) What's your relative rank in the office? (junior, programmer II, senior, lead, etc.) are you doing internal software, or are you in a software-centric environment? (the general thought seems to be that internal developers get cubes while others live in "Joel-Spolsky-Programmer-Candyland")

• Dreamweaver 8 Not Starting on Ubuntu 10.04

  I've been trying to start Dreamweaver 8 in Wine with winetricks installed in Ubuntu 10.04LTS and it would simply show that it was loading and then stop, so I decided to try in the terminal to see what I would get and I recieve. wine Dreamweaver.exe err:module:attach_process_dlls "odbc32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\Macromedia\\Dreamweaver 8\\Dreamweaver.exe" failed, status c0000005 doxramos@doxramos-laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Macromedia/Dreamweaver 8$ odbc32.dll is installed within the libraries and is in my System32 Folder inside of Wine. • How to make my sprite jump properly?

  I'm currently working on a 2D platformer in XNA. I have, however been having some trouble with creating a fully functional jumping algorithm. This is what I have so far: if (keystate.IsKeyDown(Keys.W)) if (onGround = true) //"onground" is true when the collision between the main sprite and the ground is detected { spritePosition.Y = velocity.Y = -5; } So, the problem I am now having is that as soon as the jump starts the variable "onGround" = false and the sprite is brought back the ground by the simple gravity I have implemented. The other problem I have is creating a limit to the height after which the sprite should automatically return to the ground. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

• Upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04--keyboard & mouse no longer work--system down!

  I upgraded from Ubuntu 11 to 12.04, today, and everything seemed to go smoothly up to, and including the reboot. However, I now find that my mouse and keyboard no longer function, so I cannot login or otherwise use my computer. I have read other posts on this topic, but most of the answers seem to require the use of a keyboard to implement the solution--and I can't use my keyboard! I downloaded a 12.04 LiveCD and tried booting from it, but I have the same issue with that--no keyboard! My systems is a Lenovo with an AMD64 dual processor, and my keyboard and mouse are USB attached and shared with two other Windows PCs via a KVM switch (so I no the keyboard and mouse work!). I would appreciate some hints about how to make this PC usable, again. Thanks!

• Nec USB 3.0 controller drops connection - Ubuntu 12.04.1

  I have some serious problems with Technaxx pci-e 302p card. It has uPD720200a NEC chip with 4020 firmware. BIOS recognises it. Sometimes it recognises devices and system mounts them and are functional for few minutes, other times they can't be mount and error occours. After fresh install card worked fine, but after kernel and firmware update it behaves as mentioned. • WPF ClickOnce Bootstrap Dection Failure on One Machine

  Hello Friend, I've decided to use ClickOnce technology to deploy my new WPF application. By and large, ClickOnce works as advertised but I've hit a minor glitch regarding Bootstrapping and framework detection. Some background: - I'm using the standard Visual Studio-generated publish.htm page as my launch page. - The only prerequisite is the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile. - All clients using IE 8. - All clients already have the .NET 4.0 Client Profile installed. ClickOnce works as advertised on the vast majority of machines. The VS-generated JScript correctly detects that the framework is installed and presents the user with a Run button. The app launches just fine. I'm getting odd results on one of the machines, however. On the offending machine, the VS-generated JScript tells the user that the prereqs may not be installed -- or rather, it FAILS to detect that the framework is already installed. The "launch" link successfully launches the application but the Run link points to the bootstrapper setup.exe. Why is it failing to detect the framework on this one machine? It occurred to me that framework detection is largely a matter of examining the useragent string that's submitted by the browser. So, what you see below are two UserAgent strings. The first is from a machine where things are working properly. The second is from the offending machine. • MSBuild: building website using AspNetCompiler - adding references?

  Hi, I'm attempting to build a ASP.NET website using MSBuild - specifically the AspNetCompiler tag. I know that, for my project, I need to add some references. Within Visual Studio I have several references, one is a project reference and the others are some DLLS (AjaxControlToolkit etc). I'm happy not referencing the project and referencing the DLL instead - however I just can't work out how to add a reference. • Authenticating Windows 7 against MIT Kerberos 5

  Hi There, I've been wracking my brains trying to get Windows 7 authenticating against a MIT Kerberos 5 Realm (which is running on an Arch Linux server). I've done the following on the server (aka dc1): Installed and configured a NTP time server Installed and configured DHCP and DNS (setup for the domain tnet.loc) Installed Kerberos from source Setup the database Configured the keytab Setup the ACL file with: *@TNET.LOC * Added a policy for my user and my machine: addpol users addpol admin addpol hosts ank -policy users [email protected] ank -policy admin tom/[email protected] ank -policy hosts host/wdesk3.tnet.loc -pw MYPASSWORDHERE I then did the following to the windows 7 client (aka wdesk3): Made sure the ip address was supplied by my DHCP server and dc1.tnet.loc pings ok Set the internet time server to my linux server (aka dc1.tnet.loc) Used ksetup to configure the realm: ksetup /SetRealm TNET.LOC ksetup /AddKdc dc1.tnet.loc ksetip /SetComputerPassword MYPASSWORDHERE ksetip /MapUser * * After some googl-ing I found that DES encryption was disabled by Windows 7 by default and I turned the policy on to support DES encryption over Kerberos Then I rebooted the windows client However after doing all that I still cannot login from my Windows client. :( Looking at the logs on the server; the request looks fine and everything works great, I think the issue is that the response from the KDC is not recognized by the Windows Client and a generic login error appears: "Login Failure: User name or password is invalid". The log file for the server looks like this (I tail'ed this so I know it's happening when the Windows machine attempts the login): If I supply an invalid realm in the login window I get a completely different error message, so I don't think it's a connection problem from the client to the server? But I can't find any error logs on the Windows machine? (anyone know where these are?) If I try: runas /netonly /user:[email protected] cmd.exe everything works (although I don't get anything appear in the server logs, so I'm wondering if it's not touching the server for this??), but if I run: runas /user:[email protected] cmd.exe I get the same authentication error. Any Kerberos Gurus out there who can give me some ideas as to what to try next? pretty please?

• Transferring FSMO roles over vpn

  I have a server located at one of our offices which is quite old and is due to be upgraded soon, this server holds the FSMO roles, I have another server in another office, both are DC's in the same domain and both are replicated, both run Server 2003 standard. I need to transfer the FSMO roles from the old server to the the one I have in the other office before I upgrade. Also I am looking at bringing in Exchange 2010 server however I cant install/configure that until I transfer the roles as it needs to be at the same site as the schema master. My question really is as both servers replicate over a vpn, how quickly will the roles transfer and will there be downtime as I need to make sure that while the transfer is running, both servers will service logon's and share files. or would it be better to do it out of hours? many thanks and apologies if I've missed out anything Regards Tom

  Hi guys. I'm appologizing in advance to the guys who will tell me this isn't a tech/server/IT issue! But I've been beating my head around this for a couple of days now. I'm trying figure out who to talk to, or which company I can approach to try to see if there are Grid/Cloud Computing companies who have programs setup to deal with colleges. I'm dealing with a compsci course, and we're looking at a few projects that would require a great deal of computing/computational resources. But in calling different companies (HP/Rackspace/etc..) I'm either not getting through to the right depts, or to the right people, or the companies just aren't setup for this. There are plenty of companies who have discounts for desktop software/hardware, but who in the biz deals with discounts/offerings for Cloud/Grid Computing solutions?? Any thoughts/pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -tom

• IMAP and Folder Subscriptions

  Hey guys I'm trying to figure out how folder subscriptions work with IMAP Clients and, in my case, in an Exchange 2007 environment. I have managed to deduce, I think correctly, that the folder subscription settings for individuals are stored centrally on the mailbox (At least, having configured 2 profiles on thunderbird, on 2 different machines, they subscribe to the exact same folders and dont display the exact same ones). The point of this being that I have had 2 or 3 different people in the past day report to me that they are having problems subscribing to certain folders, and having certain folder subscriptions remembered (particularly sub-folders). This is across both Thunderbird 2 and 3. can anyone suggest anything? Tom

• Exchange 2010 - Trying to add an additional domain fails

  We're trying to add an additional domain to our existing exchange 2010 box. • Iptables mark incoming packet - vpn routing

  I have connected my home to my workplace for out of house backup reasons through openvpn. The connection is working nicely. At work I have 5 fixed IP addresses. Now I would like to assign one of these IP addresses to be forwarded to my home machine. I have confirmed packet arrival at my home machine with tcpdump. The problem is that my default route at home is NOT the tun0 (naturally), but eth0 to my own ISP. So I created a separate routing table to route my tun0 packets back to where they belong, but do not how to mark the incoming packet which arrive through tun0 with iptables, so I can drive them back. I do not want any port restrictions, but only what comes from tun0 should leave through tun0 thanks tom

• Hiding UITabBar when rotating device iPhone

  Has anyone successfully hidden a UITabbar when rotating the device? I have one view in the UItabbar controller that i rotate (So effectively one tab that rotates) When this happens i want the tab bar to disappear... but nothing seems to work! Either the tabbar still remains visible Or it disappears along with the view Or the tabbar disappears and the view no longer rotates! So if anyone has successfully accomplished this task any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Tom
