  • File upload fails when user is authenticated. Using IIS7 Integrated mode.

    These are the user identities my website tells me that it uses: Logged on: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE (Can not write any files at all) and Not logged on: WSW32\IUSR_77 (Can write files to any folder) I have a ASP.NET 4.0 website on a shared hosting IIS7 web server running in Integrated mode with 32-bit applications support enabled and MSSQL 2008. Using classic mode is not an option since I need to secure some static files and I use Routing. In my web.config file I have set the following: <system.webServer> <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true" /> </system.webServer> My hosting company says that Impersonation is enabled by default on machine level, so this is not something I can change. I asked their support and they referred me to this article: http://www.codinghub.net/2010/08/differences-between-integrated-mode-and.html Citing this part: Different windows identity in Forms authentication When Forms Authentication is used by an application and anonymous access is allowed, the Integrated mode identity differs from the Classic mode identity in the following ways: * ServerVariables["LOGON_USER"] is filled. * Request.LogognUserIdentity uses the credentials of the [NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE] account instead of the [NT AUTHORITY\INTERNET USER] account. This behavior occurs because authentication is performed in a single stage in Integrated mode. Conversely, in Classic mode, authentication occurs first with IIS 7.0 using anonymous access, and then with ASP.NET using Forms authentication. Thus, the result of the authentication is always a single user-- the Forms authentication user. AUTH_USER/LOGON_USER returns this same user because the Forms authentication user credentials are synchronized between IIS 7.0 and ASP.NET. A side effect is that LOGON_USER, HttpRequest.LogonUserIdentity, and impersonation no longer can access the Anonymous user credentials that IIS 7.0 would have authenticated by using Classic mode. How do I set up my website so that it can use the proper identity with the proper permissions? I've looked high and low for any answers regarding this specific problem, but found nil so far...   • Is it legal to take sealed .NET framework class source and extend it?

    To be short, I'm giving very specific example, but I'm interested in general situation. There is a FtpWebRequest class in .NET framework and it is missing some of new FTP operations, like MFCT. It is ok in a sense that this operation is still in draft mode, but it is not ok in a sense, that FtpWebRequest is sealed and there's no other way (at least I don't see it) to extend it with this new operation. Easiest way to do it would be take FtpWebRequest class source from .NET reference sources and extend it, in such way will be kept all the consistence in naming, implementation, etc. Question is how much legal it is? I won't sell this class as a product, I can publish my changes on web - nothing to hide here. If it is not legal, can I take this class source from mono and include in native .net project? Did you had similar case and how you solved it? Update: as long as extension method is offered, I'm pasting source from .NET framework which should show that extension methods are not the solution.   • How would I include open source library in my iPhone application?

    I have found an existing open source library that I would like to include in my iPhone project (the unrar source code found here: http://www.rarlab.com/rar_add.htm ). I have compiled this source as a linked library on my Mac with "make lib" which creates the libunrar.so file just fine. These are the makefile settings for that target: lib: WHAT=RARDLL lib: $(OBJECTS) $(LIB_OBJ) @rm -f libunrar.so $(LINK) -shared -o libunrar.so $(LDFLAGS) $(OBJECTS) $(LIB_OBJ) Obviously I can't use this on iPhone but I imagine I should be able to compile with different options to make a static library that I can use. Do I: Compile it on the Mac with different make options then drag the resulting library (some kind of .a ?) into my xcode project? or Drag all of the source code into my xcode project and create special targets of some kind to create it? or Something else entirely different? I've been working on solving my unrar problem for a couple of weeks now and I believe using this library will give me the best results but I just don't know the final steps to make use of it.   • Determine asymmetric latencies in a network

    Imagine you have many clustered servers, across many hosts, in a heterogeneous network environment, such that the connections between servers may have wildly varying latencies and bandwidth. You want to build a map of the connections between servers my transferring data between them. Of course, this map may become stale over time as the network topology changes - but lets ignore those complexities for now and assume the network is relatively static. Given the latencies between nodes in this host graph, calculating the bandwidth is a relative simply timing exercise. I'm having more difficulty with the latencies - however. To get round-trip time, it is a simple matter of timing a return-trip ping from the local host to a remote host - both timing events (start, stop) occur on the local host. What if I want one-way times under the assumption that the latency is not equal in both directions? Assuming that the clocks on the various hosts are not precisely synchronized (at least that their error is of the the same magnitude as the latencies involved) - how can I calculate the one-way latency? In a related question - is this asymmetric latency (where a link is quicker in direction than the other) common in practice? For what reasons/hardware configurations? Certainly I'm aware of asymmetric bandwidth scenarios, especially on last-mile consumer links such as DSL and Cable, but I'm not so sure about latency. Added: After considering the comment below, the second portion of the question is probably better off on serverfault.

  • Serving .docx files through Php

    Hi, I'm having issues when attempting to serve a .docx file using Php. When uploading the file I detect the file mime type and upload the file using the file with the correct extension based on the mime type; e.g. below: application/msword - doc application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document - docx When attempting to serve the files for download, I do the reverse in detecting the extension and serving based on the mime type e.g. public static function fileMimeType($extention) { if(!is_null($extention)) { switch($extention) { case 'txt': return 'text/plain'; break; case 'odt': return 'application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text'; break; case 'doc': return 'application/msword'; break; case 'docx': return 'application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document'; break; case ('jpg' || 'jpeg'): return 'image/jpeg'; break; case 'png': return 'image/png'; break; case 'pdf': return 'application/pdf'; break; default: break; } } } All files appear to download correctly and open fine but when attempting to open a docx file, Word (on multiple files) throws a error stating the file is corrupt.     Hello! I'm starting to learn MVC 2.0 and I'm trying to create a site with a quiz: user is asked a question and given several options of answer. If he chooses the right answer he gets some points, if he doesn't, he looses them.   • Using DisplayFor inside a display template

    I've created a htmlhelper extension to reduce the amount of repetitive markup when creating forms: public static MvcHtmlString RenderField<TModel, TValue>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> htmlHelper, Expression<Func<TModel, TValue>> expression) { return htmlHelper.DisplayFor(expression, "formfield"); } The idea being that inside my views I can just write @Html.RenderField(x=>x.MyFieldName) and it will print the label and the field's content with the appropriate div tags in place already. Inside the displaytemplates folder I have created formfield.cshtml containing the following: <div class="display-group"> <div class="display-label"> @Html.LabelFor(x => x) </div> <div class="display-field"> @Html.DisplayFor(x => x) </div> </div> Unfortunately it doesn't appear that it is possible to nest DisplayFor inside a display template (it doesn't render anything). I don't want to just using @Model because then I won't get checkboxes for boolean values, calendar controls for dates etc. Is there a good way around this?

  • Iphone: XML image problem

    Hi! I have a question about parsing XML and putting it into a table. I parsed the following elements from a RSS feed : title, dc:creator and enclosure url (= an image). The parsing is working, i can see everything showing up in the console. But when i try to load everything into the tablecell, everything shows up except for the image. So i figured that the problem must be in the CellForRowatIndexPath method in the RootViewController.m ( or in the TableCell.m) What am i doing wrong? Please help! Ive been struggling for days with this and just cant seem to figure it out! So Big-O would be O((2^n)*n) (since we drop the constant 2)... is that correct? And n*(2^n) is worse than n^2. if n = 4 then (4*(2^4)) = 64 (4^2) = 16 if n = 100 then (10*(2^10)) = 10240 (10^2) = 100 2. Is there a faster way to generate a power set, or is this about optimal?

How is a good way to do this? Note: This could probably be done in a better way... using nested foreach and reflection and all here... but if you have any great alternative ideas, please let me know cause I want to learn!

    As the title suggests, how can I prevent the "bar" cursor from appearing when I click-and-drag over a TextField? For example, consider this interaction: I'd like to prevent the cursor changing to the "bar" in step "2". How can I do that?   • Query Parameter Value Is Null When Enum Item 0 is Cast to Int32

    When I use the first item in a zero-based Enum cast to Int32 as a query parameter, the parameter value is null. I've worked around it by simply setting the first item to a value of 1, but I was wondering though what's really going on here? This one has me scratching my head. Why does the parameter regarded the value as null, instead of 0?     Hello. I am parsing a xml document, I need find out the gid (an attribute) value (3810). Based on SelectSingleNode(). I found it is not easy to find the attribute name and it's value. Can I use this method or I must switch to other way. Attached my code. How can I use book obj to get the attribute value3810 for gid. Thank you.   • How can I get my business objects layer to use the management layer in their methods?

    I have a solution in VS2010 with several projects, each making up a layer within my application. I have business entities which are currently objects with no methods, and I have a management layer which references the business entities layer in it's project. I now think I have designed my application poorly and would like to move methods from helper classes (which are in another layer) into methods I'll create within the business entities themselves. For example I have a VirtualMachine object, which uses a helper class to call a Reboot() method on it which passes the request to the management layer. The static manager class talks to an API that reboots the VM. I want to move the Reboot() method into the VirtualMachine object, but I will need to reference the management layer: public void Reboot() { VMManager.Reboot(this.Name); } So if I add a reference to my management project in my entities project, I get the circular dependency error, which is how it should be. How can I sort this situation out? Do I need to an yet another layer between the entity layer and the management layer? Or, should I just forget it and leave it as it is. The application works ok now, but I am concerned my design isn't particularly OOP centric and I would like to correct this.

    Sorry, I am being both thick and lazy, but mostly lazy. Actually, not even that. I am trying to save time so I can do more in less time as there's a lot to be done. Does this copy the reference or the actual object data? public class Foo { private NameValueCollection _nvc = null; public Foo( NameValueCollection nvc) { _nvc = nvc; } } public class Bar { public static void Main() { NameValueCollection toPass = new NameValueCollection(); new Foo( toPass ); // I believe this only copies the reference // so if I ever wanted to compare toPass and // Foo._nvc (assuming I got hold of the private // field using reflection), I would only have to // compare the references and wouldn't have to compare // each string (deep copy compare), right? } I think I know the answer for sure: it only copies the reference. But I am not even sure why I am asking this. I guess my only concern is, if, after instantiating Foo by calling its parameterized ctor with toPass, if I needed to make sure that the NVC I passed as toPass and the NVC private field _nvc had the exact same content, I would just need to compare their references, right?

  • Android: Adding header to dynamic listView

    I'm still pretty new to android coding, and trying to figure things out. I'm creating a listview dynamically as shown below (and then disabling items dynamically also) - you'll notice that there's no xml file for the activity itself, just for the listitem. What I'd like to do is add a static header to the page. Could someone explain to me how I can modify the code below to EITHER add this programatically within the java file, before the listView, OR edit the code below so that it targets a listView within an xml file!   • Can this line of code really throw an IndexOutOfRange exception?

    I am getting an IndexOutOfRange exception on the following line of code: var searchLastCriteria = (SearchCriteria)Session.GetSafely(WebConstants.KeyNames.SEARCH_LAST_CRITERIA); I'll explain the above here: SearchCriteria is an Enum with only two values Session is the HttpSessionState GetSafely is an extension method that looks like this: public static object GetSafely(this HttpSessionState source, string key) { try { return source[key]; } catch (Exception exc) { log.Info(exc); return null; } } WebConstants.KeyNames.SEARCH_LAST_CRITERIA is simply a constant I've tried everything to replicate this error, but I cannot reproduce it. I am beginning to think the stack trace is wrong. I thought perhaps the exception was actually coming from the GetSafely call, but it is swallowing the exceptions, so that can't be the case, and even if it was, it should show up in the stack trace. Is there anything in the line of code above that could possible throw an IndexOutOfRange exception? I know the line will throw an NullReferenceException if GetSafely returns null, and it will also throw an InvalidCastException if it returns anything that cannot be cast to SearchCriteria, but an IndexOutOfRange exception?   • Visual C# Winforms App Not Displaying Graphical Elements in Design Mode

    I wrote a bunch of code in the .cs file in c# for a winforms application. The application runs fine, and everything is in it's place. Something like this: using.. namespace Temp { public class Temp : Form { Button b1; TextBox t1; Temp() { b1.Text = "Some Text"; b1.Size = new Size(50,20); ... } void function1() { // stuff } static void Main() { Application.Run(new Temp()); } } } How can I modify my code (or fix it somehow) so that the design view displays the elements in their correct positions and view so that I can visually edit them instead of having to trial/error everything. Edit for Clarification My application runs fine. The problem is, that I didn't use designer to create the application and so in the designer view, the app is empty. But not empty when I run it, since everything is positioned programmatically in the .cs file. My question is, how can I fix this, so that the designer shows the objects correctly. There is no quick fix other than to redesign everything?
